Migrating by restoring SQL schema

Hi I am on Hyperion - 9.3 trying to migrate my application by restoring SQL schema from DEV to TEST.
1) I created a new application in TEST.
2) Restored a new schema in TEST using the back up of SQL schema from DEV
3) Reconfigured the application to new schema created in STEP 2
4) Restarted the services
when i was connecting to the application in planning its showing an error: Couldn't connect to database
Any help,
Thanks.

The steps in brief should be
If it doesn't exist create a new planning application
Stop Planning.
Restore the dev planning application database over the top of the test planning application database.
Make any changes to SIDs if application owner is different.
Start Planning
Run updateusers utility

  • Data Migration - SSIS Transfer SQL Server Objects Task or something else

Can someone please kindly help me with this.
    Scenario
I have a requirement to transfer selected tables and views (with a specific schema) between two databases which reside in two different servers. In the interest of clarity I will call my databases DB_A and DB_B respectively. Please note that these databases
are NOT on the same server.
Transfer of these objects (tables & views) happens once a month. 99% of the objects in question will be of the same name and schema between the two databases as the ones migrated from the previous month. However, metadata definitions may change on DB_A
and those changes are supposed to be reflected on DB_B along with the associated data. This therefore means that each time a transfer/migration happens; objects in DB_B are dropped first and completely replaced by objects from DB_A.
    Problem
What is the best way to achieve this?
My first attempt has been a go on the Transfer SQL Server Objects Task
in SSIS. The problem that I have is that when using Transfer SQL Server Objects Task
I don’t know how to filter objects in DB_A so that only objects with a specified schema can be migrated.
Transfer SQL Server Objects Task appears to be the best solution to me to accomplish my requirement but I can’t filter the desired objects by schema. Someone suggested using C# but my C# skills are not that eloquent.
May someone kindly help please, or possibly suggest any other way which can be handy to fulfil my requirements.
    Many thanks,
    Mpumelelo

    Hi Prashanth
Thanks for your response. There is one problem though in my case. I’m sorry I forgot to mention this in the original question. When the objects are moved from BD_A to DB_B the schema in DB_B changes. That is, schemas are not the same between the source and
the destination database. How do I handle that with the solution that you have suggested?
    Many thanks,
    Mpumelelo

  • How to restore sql database in Private Azure Cloud subscription?

I want to restore my database bacpac file
    into Private
cloud Azure Subscription but I do not get any option in Azure portal :(
Is there any way to do this?
questions I asked here at stackoverflow
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/28847844/how-to-restore-sql-database-in-private-azure-cloud-subscription

    Hi itsashuthinks,
Currently for private cloud Azure there is no Import/Export Service to import your BACPAC file into SQL Database.
Because of this you will need to use client tools.
The process to do this is the following.
Open SSMS and connect to your cloud server.
Right click on "Databases" under your server in object explorer and select import data-tier application.
Follow the import wizard instructions to start the import.
Learn more about Data-tier applications and migrations here: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee210546.aspx
    Hope this helps!

  • How to restore SQL Server 2008 database to SQL Server Express 2012

How to restore SQL Server 2008 database to SQL Server Express 2012.
I BACKED UP a SQL Server 2008 database from work, which runs the enterprise version of 2008, and I tried to RESTORE it to my new 64-Bit home PC which is running the new SQL Server Express 2012 64-Bit (Advanced Edition).
But if fails. I get the following message text.
Can anyone help me please. I thought restoring a 2008 database to the later version 2012 would be possible.
Here is the error message. Thanks.
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
    Restore of database failed. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.RelationalEngineTasks)
    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: The database was backed up on a server running version 8.00.2039. That version is incompatible with this server, which is running version 11.00.3128. Either restore the database on a server that supports the backup, or use a
backup that is compatible with this server. (Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoExtended)

Are you sure your database is SQL server 2008 from error message it seems your SQL server version is 2000.I guess you have multiple versions of SQL server.
AFAIK you cannot restore backup of SQL server 2000 to 2012 directly .Restore it first to SQL 2008/2008R2 or 2005 then take backup again of new database created and then you would be able to restore it on 2012.Its kind of intermediate way
Also make sure your DB size is less than 10 G as max DB size supported by Express edition is 10 G and if your DB size is more than 10 G restore will fail.
You are also trying to restore enterprise DB backup on express edition so you will loose enterprise features on express edition

  • Migration issue in SQL Developer (from SQL Server to Oracle)

    Dear All,
I am using SQL Developer 3.0 to migrate data from SQL Server 2008 to Oracle 11gR2. I used Quick Migration Wizard for migrating and everything was Ok but when it was running migration process, I got this message: “Migration actions have failed. Check the migration reports for details. : null”
But there was not any report to check. Does anyone know how I can do it without any problem?
    Thanks in advance.

I am working on a project to migrate from SQL Server 2008 to Oracle 11gR2. It includes some tables, views, indexes, triggers and store procedures. At first I worked on SQL Developer 2.1.1.64 but it doesn’t support SQL Server 2008 (I had to use SQL Server 2005 in its offline options). I got a lot of error when I used the offline options. I know that I may be having some problem in table or view definition in my SQL Server but if I don’t have any log file I can’t solve them.
Unfortunately, in SQL Developer 3.0 there isn’t any option to generate a SQL comments from objects (convert to Oracle) because I need to rewrite comments if they have problem. For example I have a filed named USER that it’s a reserved word in Oracle so I have to change this field name.
I also can’t use “Translation Scratch Editor” because it has some error to convert. For example when I use it for the following code:
    CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Table1](
         [ID1] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
         [Name1] [varchar](50) NULL,
         CONSTRAINT [PK_Table1] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED
         [ID1] ASC
    )WITH (PAD_INDEX = OFF, STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS = ON) ON [PRIMARY]
    ) ON [PRIMARY]
    CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Table2](
         [ID2] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
    [Name1] [varchar](50) NULL,
         CONSTRAINT [PK_Table2] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED
         [ID2] ASC
    )WITH (PAD_INDEX = OFF, STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS = ON) ON [PRIMARY]
    ) ON [PRIMARY]
I receive a wrong code like this:
    CREATE SEQUENCE Table1_ID1
    START WITH 1
    INCREMENT BY 1;
    CREATE TABLE Table1
    ID1 NUMBER(10,0) NOT NULL,
    Name1 VARCHAR2(50) ,
    CONSTRAINT PK_Table1 PRIMARY KEY( ID1 )
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER Table1_ID1_TRG
    BEFORE INSERT
    ON Table1
    FOR EACH ROW
    BEGIN
    SELECT Table1_ID1.NEXTVAL INTO :NEW.ID1
    FROM DUAL;
    END;
    CREATE SEQUENCE Table1_ID1
    START WITH 1
    INCREMENT BY 1;
    CREATE SEQUENCE Table2_ID2
    START WITH 1
    INCREMENT BY 1;
    CREATE TABLE Table2
    ID2 NUMBER(10,0) NOT NULL,
    Name1 VARCHAR2(50) ,
    CONSTRAINT PK_Table2 PRIMARY KEY( ID2 )
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER Table1_ID1_TRG
    BEFORE INSERT
    ON Table1
    FOR EACH ROW
    BEGIN
    SELECT Table1_ID1.NEXTVAL INTO :NEW.ID1
    FROM DUAL;

  • Migration from MS SQL to Oracle/DB2

    Hi Gurus,
Not sure if I post in the correct thread. But I need advice on migrating our MS SQL database to either Oracle or DB2.
From ABAP point of view, I believe the standard SAP programs and most of our customized programs are compatiable with any database. However, what are the possiblilty that programs are only catered for MS SQL DB and not the rest? Examples like what type of coding?
Need to know from functional side, do we have to do full functional testing on all the modules that we used? If not, any testing from functional side?
    Many many thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Janet

    > Thanks for the info. However the thread you provided seems to be more on Basis side. Actually I am coming more from application side on which functional module areas (SD, FICO, etc....) we have to test and on ABAP side on which customized programs we should look out for to test or redevelop when migrating. Let me know if have any ideas.
There may be impacts - yes. Each database has its own optimizer and strategy, if you have a table or an SQL statement there may be different access paths and optimization routines for every database.
I'd say it's near to impossible to only theoretically find out how a certain application would be impacted - the only way to find that out is to do a test migration and run regression tests on each of your core applications. You may e. g. delete or create a new index or also redesign the whole statement.

    Hi,
Is there any Java Tool to migrate from MS-SQL Server to Oralce?

is there any easy way to pull data from MS-SQL Server and push into Oracle database)
    thanks,

I think u should use a third party help to resolve this problem, i use dbload to solve it when i was migrated my data, it can migrate almost any data, it helps me to convert MSSQL to MYSQL, MS access to MSSQL, mysql, csv loader, foxpro and MSSQL to MS access, MYSQl, CSV, foxpro etc. i found it on google search.

  • Faster way to migrate data from SQL Server to Oracle 10g

We have to migrate data from SQL Server to Oracle 10 g.
One particular table on SQL Server has records around 1.25 millions.
We tried moving data using DTS package, but looks it will take hours with current speed of 300 records/minute.
This table has TEXT column, which has XML strings stored. I am not sure, if this is the reason for slow migration.
Would you please suggest better options to migrate it faster?
    Thanks in advance !!!

  • Error in Migration Repository using Sql*Developer Migration Workbench

To migrate a MS access mdb database to Oracle using Sql*Developer Migration Workbench, I try to create first the the Migration Repository in SQL*Developer.
The repository is created, but under PACKAGES I could see that package MD_META has been compiled with errors.
    PACKAGE BODY AO_PERSONAL.MD_META@DMCAPX (AO_PERSONAL):
    Error(27,2): PL/SQL: SQL Statement ignored
    Error(30,23): PL/SQL: ORA-00904: : ungültiger Bezeichner
Well, when I ignore this and continue with the next step of the migration process "Capture Microsoft Access Exported XML file" to create the Captured Model, I get the following error message:
ORA-04063: package body "AO_PERSONAL.MD_META" enthält Fehler ORA-06508: PL/SQL: aufgerufene Programmeinheit : "AO_PERSONAL.MD_META" konnte nicht gefunden werden ORA-06512: in "AO_PERSONAL.MD_PROJECTS_TRG", Zeile 3 ORA-04088: Fehler bei der Ausführung von Trigger 'AO_PERSONAL.MD_PROJECTS_TRG'
Target database RDBMS is Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0. So the proposal of note 427916.1 to create the Repository in a 10.2 RDBMS does not solve the problem.
I even tried to use the Quick Migrate feature in SQL*Developer, but got the same error message.

"inserted value too large for column"
Is there a LOGON trigger on the database or user ?
I'd be surprised at SQL Developer trying to insert data into anything on connect.
I'd suspect code being executed by the database, maybe using a MODULE or PROGRAM from v$session or USERENV / SYS_CONTEXT.

Any other option to restore schema??As it has been discussed in another thread, the schema is not a physical thing, it is a logical set of objects that user has.
So, to restore schema you will need to restore all tables in this schema.
As it was answered above, you can use Flashback Table for every table (with some limitations though).
Another option is using LogMiner. With some limitations as well.
For example, you cannot to "restore" a truncated table with LM.
