Migrating from NT to UNIX (Tru64)

Please refer to statement "... With regards to import/export, Import/Export Utilities currently will <B>ONLY<B> work between portal installations which are at the <B>SAME VERSION LEVEL</B>." in the following thread - http://technet.oracle.com:89/ubb/Forum70/HTML/001441.html
We have developed a Portal 3.0.8 site on an NT platform. The 9iAS (ver. 1.0.2.1) and the database (ver. 8.1.7) are on the same NT box. We are now required to move the entire thing to a Compaq Tru64 platform (UNIX). The 9iAS (1.0.2.1) and the database (8.1.7) will again be on the same Tru64 box.
Can it be safely assumed that exporting the components on NT and then importing them in UNIX using the import utilities will work? or do we need to take some caution. Please note that the 9iAS version is same on both NT and UNIX.
Thanks.

Hi,
I am currently doing exactly this export/import (NT to TRU64, 3.0.8 Portals, 1.0.2.1 9iAS).
Exports (ssoexp, secexp, db export, application export, contexp, pageexp, respectively) and imports (ssoimp, secimp, db import, appimport, contimp, pageimp, respectively) have gone without an error EXCEPT for the final and most important--pageimp.
My import logs show the following error in pageimp.cmd:

And when I browse to the Portal, there are no pages to be found (users and content areas are fine). I'll send more info when/if I make progress. Meanwhile, if anyone has encountered and solved this problem, please advise.
Incidently, I am using import/export scripts that I downloaded three weeks ago. Perhaps there are a new set of 3.0.8 scripts? However, I don't see anywhere that the import/export scripts are version specific (as long as the portal versions are the same).

  • ABAP Adaption while migrating from Windows to Unix

    Dear All,
I am working on a project where SAP system has been migrating from Windows to Unix os. Because of this all ABAP which are using Files, Operating system command has to be adapted as well.
How can I get such a list of ABAP objects which will be affected by this migration.
Example I can look for Dataset command, External OS Commands and so on..
Please advice if there is a straight forward way to get such a list?
Your prompt response would be higly appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance

    Hello -
You need to visit URL - System Copy and Migration
Also refer to SAP note 547314, and the System Copy Guide for your SAP
release on SAP Service Marketplace :

  • Migration from forms under unix

I want to transport my oracle database 6, Oracle Forms and Oracle Report from Unix operating System to Windows NT.
    Is it possible?
    Kindly guide me
    Thanx
    null

Other people can help you with the database conversion, but I believe that an export and then an import will get you going.
For the Forms, just FTP the FMBs to the NT then regenerate them into FMX, same for PLLs, MMBs, etc. Have a look at the help topic "Upgrading from a Previous Release", you may want to use the FORMS60_DEFAULTFONT if the screen fonts look strange.
For the reports, you may have to change uifont.ali in c:\orant\tools\common60 to get the correct fonts for NT. I also set ALL reports to have PDF output. This gets around the portrait / landscape printing problem. Reports will NOT reset the orientation of NT printers, Abode PostScript WILL reset the orientation. Also the user can 'resize' the report on printing. You can also read emailed PDFs more easily than the standard ReportWriter output.

  • Migrating from OC4J to Unix middle tier

    Hi,
Does anyone know where I can get some documentation that assists me with moving my app from my PC to the application server on a UNIX platform.
    I am running 10g OC4J.
    Thanks

Documentation comes with 10gAS for Unix. Same as here (check your version!):

  • How do I set up a proxy server for webmail services to assist in migrating from NMS 4.15p6 on NT to iMS 5.1 on HP-UX.

I want to have minimal if no downtime at all when moving the message store. iPlanet support hinted at an "unsupported" proxy server solution, and would give no further information. I am running the MMP with 5.1 and that supports IMAP and POP migration, but I need support for webmail services as well to complete the migration from NT to UNIX with minimal distruption of thousands of users. I am using the MoveUser utility to move the message store in hopes that will clear up some store corruption we have been seeing.

To get this in a 'supported' fashion you might want to wait until the iMS 5.2 release. iPlanet has said this release would include a webmail proxy/mmp server to do exactly what you desire.
A proxy server would not be a solution to your problem as it would have to have access and knowledge to the users mailhost attribute to determine to which host to route the webmail connection. The webmail proxy/mmp will have this functionality.
You might want to contact your iPlanet rep about this product and maybe you could get a copy of it as part of a beta program. I know iPlanet is always looking for oppourtunities for feedback like this.

  • Moving from 10gR2 Db on Unix (Tru64) to a new Linux server (10gR2)

    Hi,
We are planning on moving our oracle 10gR2 Db on Unix (Tru64) to a new Linux server (same database 10gR2). Interested in discussing the easiest way for a newbie to get the data over to the new box. We currently perform a 'COLD" backup and have no transaction logging. The database is a data warehouse so stopping the database and backing up the files is not a issue. The database size is 500GB.
The Oracle ADDM on our current box is showing "individual database segments responsible for significant user I/O". There is a tablespace with about 30 separate data files that need to be "reorganized"!
Should we perform the reorganize before the migration or after on the new faster box?
What is the easiest way to do this for a newbie? Thanks.

Since your source and target platform all little ENDIAN format. Cold copy from OS level is fastest and easiest way.
If you plan to reorg the tablespace along the way, you have to do export/import, use data pump since you are on 10g.

  • Cross platform migration from hp unix to sun

    Hi
recently we have done cross platform migration from hp unix to sun (10g R2 RAC +ASM). It was a challenging experience to complete the migration in 8 hours downtime for a database of about 2 TB.
I would like to share the experience , so that it would be hepfull to others and i would learn more new techniques for improvement .
    source environment:
    HP-UX -ITANIUM - 2 node RAC - 10g R2 - Oracle clusterware - ASM - Heavily loaded all the time .
    Destination Env:
    Sun solaris 10 - 2 node RAC - 10g R2 - Oracle Clusterware - ASM
Total Downtime available : 6 hours.
    Steps followed
    1. snapshot backup of source database on a intermediate HP-Unix box. (stage area)
    2. recover the database and start the rman image backup on to disk in stage area.
    3. mount this filesystem locally (Veritas ) on to one of the node in the destination env.
    4. Mount this filesystem as NFS on second node using a cross cable between both of them (we can use interconnect VLAN also here)
    5. Keep applying the archive logs from source env till the downtime .
    5. startup nomount the database , change the datafile names from ASM to RMAN image copy files and mount.
    6. start rman convert statements and pump into the already exisitng ASM nodes with parallel sessions as much as possible (with 35 sets (513 datafiles) we were able to pump 2 TB data in 4.5 Hrs) - only system and undo datafiles need a convert statements (platform migration ) others would need a file system to ASM conversion only.
    7. alter database open resetlogs in the destination environment.
    8. create services manually and start the application.
we were given very less time to decide upon this stategy , By gods grace we were able to complete it .
I got a doubt while we are chalking out this plan .
can we connect to ASM instance remotely and pump data from one ASM to another ASM. It seems it is not possible , just a wild thought.
Let me know if you see any more improvements in this.
    Thanks
    Naveen samala

  • Migration from  Sun to HP Unix to Windows

    Hi ,
There is hardware and OS migration activity is scheduled in my current project. To give you the detail, BI system will be migrated from SUN to HP servers and OS will be changed from Unix to windows.
I am asked to test the system to check that any existing functionality that works before migration should work after migration.
I was suggested to have a look at the Installation guide to prepare the checklist. I know that the guides are available on service market place, however I am wondering which one I need to refer for the BI 7.0 installation.
Can any one please send the link of Installation guide  specifically for  BI 7.0. ?
If any one has done the similar kind of migration activity before then please share the pre and post migration test steps that you have performed during migration.
    Regards,
    Neeraj

    Thanks Effen,
DB will remain ORACLE. I have just gone through the system copy guide . I found it bit confusing
I have prepared a list of all necessary activities and check required pre and post migration. Appreciate if you just have a look at it. Add any check that you think should be added in the list.
    Pre Migration check:
    SAP R3 Side:
u2022Take the snapshot of SM37 for all the LIS jobs whether it is in released state.
u2022Need to flush all the delta queues from LBWE
u2022Make the delta Queues Zero (By scheduling the respective info packages for the data targets).
    SAP BW:
    Analysis phase
u2022Understand the BW landscape and identify all Interfaces (SAP and Non SAP).
u2022Prepare a list of all outstanding issues of BAU. Also record all problems if any thing is broken and not working pre migration.
u2022Prepare the test scripts for technical and functional testing.
    Migration Phase:
u2022Run process chain to flush all the delta queues.
u2022Remove all the jobs from Schedule position; identify all the chains based on event and Schedule chains.
u2022Stop all chains, remove them from schedule.
    Post Migration check:
    SAP R3 Side:
u2022Change the state of the jobs position from Schedule to Release and schedule the LBWE job to flush the records from LBWQ to RSA7 as per the one Hour frequency
u2022Check the next released job time and makes sure that the LBWE job is started sending the records from LBWQ to RSA7.
u2022Take the screen shots before sending the data from LBWQ to RSA7.
u2022Check for the number records in RSA7 as well as LBWQ.
u2022After the successful job run, check for the number of records in RSA7.
u2022Make sure that the records in RSA7 are matching with the LBWQ.
u2022Keep an eye on all the LIS jobs for two or three consequent runs.
    SAP BW Side:
    Technical Check:
u2022Before going to start the process chains, check all the source system connections. This includes SAP and Non SAP source systems.
u2022Check the connection of all SAP source systems with BW. Ensure that the RFC connection is established for all SAP source systems.
u2022Check the connection of all Non SAP source systems with BW. Ensure that the DB connect setting is correct and connection is established. Need to check all the source system connections through DB to make sure that all the tables/Views are not dropped out after migration. If there is any table with inactive status need to bring to the notice of the admin people of that particular database.
u2022Double check all the process chains based on Event and Schedule are successfully scheduled as per the existing timings.
u2022While scheduling the jobs, there might be some chances that system will automatically postpone the loads by one day based on the job priority defined, ensure that the jobs are running as per the scheduled date and time.
u2022Need to keep an eye on all the critical process chains like APO loads Etc... Mentioned in the excel sheet.
u2022Keep on monitoring the process chains running also compare the execution time for performance check.
u2022Randomly check the infocubes, update rules, Info objects  and other objects and verify that the objects are in active mode.
u2022Ensure that all externally scheduled processes are rescheduled Backups, DB statistics, monitoring processes, etc
u2022Verify that the connectivity with SAP portal.
u2022For verifying the BI Java configuration, run the IP transaction RSPLAN, open BI admin cockpit and check that it is working fine after migration.
u2022Verify the all infocubes administration activities like index creation/deletion, aggregate roll up, compression & DB ststistics refresh are working fine after migration.
u2022Create/delete/ maintain BW objects: DSO, infocube, infosource, update rule, transformation, DTP etc in dev systems.
u2022Check that Full Request InfoPackage, Repair Full Request InfoPackage, Initialisation with Data Request InfoPackage, Initialisation without Data Request InfoPackage and Delta Request InfoPackage can be executed successfully.
    u2022Check RSRV transactions for consistency.
u2022Create, delete and modify the Query in query designer. Verify that the query designer works properly after migraition.
    Functional Check:
Execute all functional test scripts and validate that the data is being loaded in all relevant info providers.

  • Migrating from 9i on windows to 9i on unix

    Hi all,
where can I find info on how to migrate an Oracle database from Windows to Unix platform?
I am currently running Oracle 9i on Windows 2000. I'd like to migrate to Oracle 9i on Aix5L. What is the best way to migrate the data across platforms? I was thinking of exporting to flat files and FTPing over to unix to do imports. But how can I recreate the control files, redo logs and init? Do I have to create the database on Aix before importing database from windows or import process create it automatically?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Yes, create the "physical" part of the Oracle DB first.
An Oracle export dump contains only the "logical" stuff :) (definitions/metadata and data).

  • Migrating database from windows to unix

Can anyone, please suggest me some reading on migrating a database from windows to unix? Thanks

Yes an export import is the most likely migration path you have. There is another option. You may install, just temporarily a 10g environment on the windows platform, then upgrade using the DBUA from 8i to 10g on the same platform. This way you will make sure you don't miss a piece of data during the migration process.
Once your database is at the 10g platform, you may proceed with a transport tablespace from 10g win to 10g unix. Violà, your database will be on the 10g platform.
Next, deinstall the windows temporary 10g installation.
    Notes:
    1. Make sure your 8i db is at the latest patchset available at 8i (8.1.7.4.0)
    2. Define which unix platform you are referring to. It's because of endian issues.

thank you very much in advance.

    Hello,
Here is the best way you can do that without breaking anything and you are in business and not need to compile. You might have to manually resolve any privs issues (db-links, roles before startign the import on target database).
exp system/manager owner=user1,user2,user3,user4,user5,... file=mynonadminusers.dmp log=myexport.logNow if you have already created all teh uses only and tablespace (it will create in default tablespace if ts doesn't exists)
    imp system/password fromuser=user1,user2,user3,user4,.....  touser=user1,user2,user3,user4,.... file=mynonadminusers.dmp log=myimport.logRegards

    hi ,
use below steps for Eliminate this issue
To start the wizard version of the Forms Migration Assistant:
    1. On Windows systems, set the environment variable FORMS_PATH:
    SET FORMS_PATH=%ORACLE_HOME%\forms
On UNIX systems, set the variable FORMS_PATH as in the example below:
    setenv FORMS_PATH $ORACLE_HOME/forms
    2.
In Windows, from the Start menu, select ORACLE_HOME | Forms Developer |Oracle Forms Migration Assistant (GUI Mode), or at the command line, start the conversion utility by entering: frmplsqlconv.bat mode=wizard.
    or
    in UNIX, enter frmplsqlconv.sh mode=wizard.
The Conversion Wizard Welcome dialog displays.

  • HT4796 How can I take the files that were migrated from my PC to my Mac and add all those files to my current user instead of having 2 users?

How can I take the files that were migrated from my PC to my Mac and add all those files to my current user instead of having 2 users? Having to log out just to sign in on a different user to access the files is absurd.
Do I make all the files sharable to all the NOW users on the mac then just delete the files? Or can i erase my account that I made when starting up my new mac and then just use the one with the transferred files?
I just dont want to have to og in and out of 2 different accounts .. Help please.

Sorry. /Users is a folder path. It would be similar to C:\Users (if that exists on Windows).
So, in the Finder, select Computer from the Go menu.
You'll see Macintosh HD, double-click that to open it.
In there you'll see several folders. One is Users. That is where all the user Home folders exist. Select the other account's home folder and go to step 3.
If you have any more confusion, please stop and ask. We'll get there.
If you feel more comfortable, you can just log into that other account and move the files into /Users/Shared.
Then, log into the account you wish to use and copy the files from the Shared folder and paste them into your Home folder, wherever they belong, Documents, Music, Pictures, etc.  That just takes a little more work. Transferring them into Shared, and then copying into your home sets the permissions on the files so that you won't have a problem accessing them later. The steps I provided just prevent you from having to do the double move, since you are not going to use the old account once you are done.
Quick unix shorthand. If someone gives you a file path that begins with a /, that means the root of the hard drive, ie Macintosh HD (if you haven't renamed it). The path separator in unix is /, not \.
A path that starts with ~/ means your Home folder, the one inside /Users named with your account name.
