Migrating oracle 9i from Fail safe to Oracle RAC

We are planning to migrate our Oracle 9i database from Fail safe to Oracle RAC. Does anybody has any experience to share? Where can I find the documentation about this?
Regards
Tariq

FailSafe Cluster and RAC are completely different architectures, there's no direct migration path. Export the 9i database and import into a fresh RAC database.
At the same time move to 11gR2.

  • Migrate Oracle RAC to Vmware

    Hi;
Am wondering if anyone has ever tried migrating a present RAC environment (2 node cluster using ASM accessing a SAN for the data and flash). I know I can convert the physicals but all documentation I have found on disk sharing points to creating the disks and doing the multi-writer option. This is not possible when the added disk is using a Raw Device Mapping which is my only option when presenting the LUNS to the host server. This is an ora10g and ESXi 5.1.
    Thanks

I think install a new RAC in vmware and migrate data from  old db use  export/import or sqlload is a better and safer choice .

  • Migrate Oracle Rac 11.1.0.6 SE to Oracle Rac 11.2 EE

    Hi,
is there some guideline to migrate e 11.1.0.6 RAC Standard Edition with ASM to a 11.2.0 RAC Enterprise Editon?
Database is almost 800gb, index included.
Some best practice? Some suggestion? Some links?
    Thanks in advance,
    Samuel Rabini

Or from 11.1.0.6 Standard to 11.1.0.6 Enterprise.
I can find anything on internet to do such a migration.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Related to migration of db from sql server to oracle 11 g

We're trying to migrate a Sql server managment studio database to Oracle 11g using SQL Developer 4.0. We can successfully connect to both Sql server managment studion 8.0 and Oracle 11g using the tool, as well as click through the Migration Wizard and start the migration.
This opens the Database Migration dialog box, which indicates the capture process starts normally. we get the following error:
ora :01440 : can not insert null into migrlog (id column) ,
\and then after some time , i get an error that migration failed
i am not getting the reason,I thing it may be due to reason that , I have table's column in my source db with more than 30 character.
If i am migrating one by one table . then it is not giving any error, and identifier name is getting shrink in 30 character. but i am not getting the view , stored procedure , indexes , and others
then what is the solution  for that, somebody pls suggest any help?????????????

Continue the discussion in your original thread
The error message is explicitly clear
ora :01440 : can not insert null into migrlog (id column)
Your process is trying to insert a NULL value into the ID column, which presumably cannot be NULL

  • RMAN Automatic backup/recovery with oracle fail safe, windows cluster

    Hello,
    I have question,
    1) Whether it is possible to do "RMAN Automatic Backup and recovery" in environment as ?
    Environment: -
    a. Windows clustering with windows server 2003 Enterprise Edition R2 (Two Node Clustering)
    b. Shared disk ( RAID )
    c. Oracle 10g standard edition one
    d. Oracle fail safe v3.3.3 (for redundancy)
Here we have single oracle instance operating on single database whose files are located on shared disk.
    2) If answer to above question is yes please specify if there is some good documentation to it.
Any help regarding this will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Rahul

You just need to make sure that the RMAN scripts are always able to connect to the target database instance whether instance runs on cluster node 1 or cluster node 2
here, If oracle services(resources) will shift from Node1 to Node2 (due to media or any failure) during RMAN Backup then there will be break in connection, will it destroy my backup or will it get started automatically without any harm?
and also I want to know,
Do we need to setup another server which will have RMAN backup script running?

  • Migrating SYSTEM tablespace from DMTS to LMTS in Oracle 9.2.0.7

Migrating SYSTEM tablespace from DMTS to LMTS in Oracle 9.2.0.7 using
    brspace -f dbcreate
    SAP version: 4.6C
    Oracle: 9.2.0.7
    OS: AIX 5.3
BRTools: 6.40(42)    /**  6.40(10) or (12) will be sufficient according to SAP ***/
    IMPORTANT ***************************************
    MUST DO:
    1. Create a Full Backup of your system
    2. Test your Restore and recovery of your backup.
    3. Have a copy of all your tablespaces names on hand
    4. Know your SYS and SYSTEM passwords
    5. Run CheckDB in DB13 to ensure it is completed successfully with no warnings. This reduce the chance of hitting errors in the process
    6. Ensure your UNDO tablespace is big enough
    7. OSS 400241 Problems with ops$ or sapr3 connect to Oracle
    NOTE: OSS 706625(Read this note)
The migration from a dictionary-managed SYSTEM tablespace to a locally-managed tablespace using the PL/SQL procedure DBMS_SPACE_ADMIN.TABLESPACE_MIGRATE_TO_LOCAL is not supported in the SAP environment.
    In UNIX, logon as ora<sid>
    run command: brspace -f dbcreate
This command will triggers a Menu. The are seven(7) steps to complete the whole process. Do them in sequence, from step 1 to step 7 faithfully. In Step 1, ensure that your settings of PSAPTEMP, PSAPUNDO etc details such as filenames are correct. The rest I leave it as default and they are fine. Do not change redo log group from 8 to 4 even if you only have 4 redo groups. If not, you might need to restore the system! If the seven steps are complete without errors(warnings is acceptable), congrats. Perform a backup again.
Problems I encountered that caused me to restore system:
1./ Problem: I changed the redo group from 8 to 4 and in the later stage after the tablespaces and files are dropped, the system prompted me that 4 is not acceptable! I can't go back then so a restore is performed.
Solution: Leave the default value 8 as it is
2./ I was using wireless network and the network breaks thus process breaks.
Solution: This process in user-interactive and requires you to input confirmation along the way so do it using LAN.
3./ In the process of dropping  tablespace PSAP<SID>, I encountered:
    BR0301E SQL error -604 at location BrTspDrop-2
ORA-00601: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-01555: snapshot too old: rollback segment number 22 with name '_SYSSMU22$" too small
Solution: I have not fixed this yet but I think it is because my PSAPUNDO is too small(800M) so I will increase it to a bigger value e.g. 5GB
    4. Problem: Unable to start sap after successfully migrated. OPS$user problem
Solution: logon as <sid>adm, run R3trans -x in a directory that <sid>adm has read/write permission. R3trans -x will creates a file call trans.log. Read the details and refer to OSS 400241
Result: I have successfully performed this on one(1) system and doing this on the another one currently but encounter Problem 3. Will update this further if there are more findings.

The current one I am implementing is a development system. The database is less than 100GB. 800MB of PSAPUNDO is sufficient for our development usage.
    Follow up on Problem 3:
I created another undo tablespace PSAPUNDO2(undodata.dbf) with size of 5GB. I switched undo tablespace to PSAPUNDO2 and placed PSAPUNDO(undo.data1) offline. With PSAPUNDO2 online and PSAPUNDO offline, I started brspace -f dbcreate and encountered the error below at Step 2 Export User tablespace:
    BR0301E SQL error -376 at location BrStattabCreate-3
ORA-00376: file 17 cannot be read at this time
    ORA-01110: data file 17: '/oracle/DVT/sapdata1/undo_1/undo.data1'
    ORA-06512: at 'SYS.DBMS_STATS", line 5317
    ORA-06512: at line 1
I aborted the process and verified that SAP is able to run with this settings. I started CheckDB in DB13 and it shows me these messages:
    BR0301W SQL error -376 at location brc_dblog_open-5
ORA-00376: file 17 cannot be read at this time
    ORA-01110: data file 17: '/oracle/DEV/sapdata1/undo_1/undo.data1'
BR0324W Insertion of database log header failed
I don't understand then. I have already switched the undo tablespace from PSAPUNDO to PSAPUNDO2. Why the message above still appears? Once I put PSAPUNDO online, CheckDB completes successfully without warning.
I did show parameter undo_tablespace and the result is PSAPUNDO2(5GB).
So exactly, what's going on? Can anyone advise?
    ===============================================
I have managed to clear the message in DB13 after dropping PSAPUNDO tablespace including contents and datafiles. This is mentioned is OSS note 600141 pg 8 as below:
Note: You cannot just set the old rollback-tablespace PSAPROLL to offline instead of deleting it properly. This results in ORA-00376 in connection with ORA-01110 error messages. PSAPROLL must remain ONLINE until it is deleted. (Oracle bug 3635653)

How to Configure the 10.2 DB Control in a Failsafe Environment
    ID: 452305.1
    HOWTO: PUBLISHED 17-OCT-2008
    In this Document
       Goal
       Solution
       References
    Applies to:
Enterprise Manager Grid Control - Version: 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.3
Information in this document applies to any platform.
    Goal
The goal of the document is to provide the steps to configure the DB Console in an Oracle Failsafe environment.
Please note that the solution offered in this document is not certified by Oracle. It's only provided as a workaround for customers who wish to use this setup for the Database Control Console in a failsafe environment. Support for the procedure outlined in this document will be provided on a 'best efforts' approach.
As an alternative to this approach you can use Grid Control Agents to monitor a database in a failsafe environment. For more details please see:
Note 396659.1  How To Setup Grid Control Central Agent Manually in Oracle Failsafe Environment
    We assume the following:
    - the database binaries are installed on each node on the local disk
    - you already have a failsafe group with the database, the listener, disk resource, and virtual
    ip/hostname
Note: This is specific for Windows environments using Oracle Failsafe. For setting up the DB Console in Active/Passive clusters on UNIX please use the following note instead:
Note 362524.1 Configure DB Control 10.2 for use in Active/Passive High Availability Environments
    Solution
    1. Drop the DB Control repository and configuration files on the active node:
<ORACLE_HOME>/bin/emca -deconfig dbcontrol db -repos drop
    2. Recreate the DB Control using the virtual hostname:
    - in a command window do the following:
    set oracle_sid=<your_sid>
    set oracle_home=<your_oracle_home>
    set oracle_hostname=<virtual_hostname>
    cd %oracle_home%\bin
emca -config dbcontrol db -repos create
-- make sure that the virtual host name was picked up by emca (it will display a summary screen
    before continuing)
    3. Verify that the DB Console works fine and can be accessed using the virtual host name in the URL
    4. Stop the DB Console
    5. Create a directory path on the group disk resource similar to your oracle home path on the local disk.
    For example:
If the oracle home on the local disk is C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1 and the shared disk is D:
then create the following path: D:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1
    Copy C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\<hostname_sid> and
    C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\oc4j\j2ee\OC4J_DBConsole_<hostname_sid>
    to D:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\<hostname_sid> and respectively
    D:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\oc4j\j2ee\OC4J_DBConsole_<hostname_sid>
Remember to change the values enclosed in <> with those in your environment.
    6. Delete the following directories from the local disk
    C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\<hostname_sid>
    C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\oc4j\j2ee\OC4J_DBConsole_<hostname_sid>
    7. Create NTFS junction points from the local disk to the shared disk (these work like symbolic
links on UNIX) . It is your responsibility to create these.
You can find a brief guide as well as some tools that will help you create them at:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTFS_junction_point
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet ... dDisk/Junction.mspx
Important: Please note that this functionality is not certified nor supported by Oracle. Make sure you understand the
implications. Especially don't delete the junction points from Windows Explorer !!
In the end you should have the junction points on the local disk (with the same names as the
original directories) that would point to the directories you copied on the shared disk.
    8. Start the DB Console service and verify that everything is still working fine.
    9. Stop the DB Console service.
    10. Move the Fail Safe group to the 2nd node.
    11. Once the database is started, create the DB Console configuration files on the 2nd node:
    <ORACLE_HOME>/bin/emca -config dbcontrol db
    12. Stop the DB Console
    13. Delete the created configuration files from the local disk:
    C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\<hostname_sid>
    C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\oc4j\j2ee\OC4J_DBConsole_<hostname_sid>
    14. Create junction points from the local disk to the directories already located on the shared
    disk.
    15. Start the DB Console service and verify that is working fine.
    16. Add the DB Console service as a resource to the fail safe group and put dependencies on the
    database and listener services.
    17. Perform a fail over and see if everything works fine.

I´m a bit lost with this error. I don´t understand why the logical database can´t start to apply the redos received from primary database.<br>

The database has two tables with two columns one integer and the other a varchar2(25). She hasn´t rare types of columns.<br>

I recreate the logical database OK, no problem, no errors.<br>

The redo aply run ok. I have done logfile switch in primary database and they were applied in logical and standby databases. But...<br>
    <br>
When I created a tablespace in primary database when i did a switch logfile in primary the changes transfers ok to standby database, but to logical NO!!!, the redo are in they path in logical ok, but when the process tried to apply, reports me the same error.<br>

    Any idea¿?<br>

I´m a bit frustrated. It´s the third time that recreate the logical database OK and reproduce the same error when i create a tablespace in primary database, and i haven´t got any idea because of that.

  • How to migrate a table from ORACLE 10g to 8i

have table named 'liuxg_tab_01' in 10g.
This morning I exported this table using 'exp' and then tried to imp it into 8i, I failed.
After a while, I created a database link named 'ctf' in 8i which connected to 10g. I issued 'create table test as selct * from liuxg_tab_01@ctf',it returns 'ORA-01723'.
Then I extraced the DDL of 'liuxg_tab_01' from 10g with QUEST TAOD, it's:
    CREATE TABLE LIUXG_TAB_01
    OWNER VARCHAR2(30 BYTE),
    OBJECT_NAME VARCHAR2(30 BYTE),
    SUBOBJECT_NAME VARCHAR2(30 BYTE),
    OBJECT_ID NUMBER,
    DATA_OBJECT_ID NUMBER,
    OBJECT_TYPE VARCHAR2(19 BYTE),
    CREATED DATE,
    LAST_DDL_TIME DATE,
    TIMESTAMP VARCHAR2(19 BYTE),
    STATUS VARCHAR2(7 BYTE),
    TEMPORARY VARCHAR2(1 BYTE),
    GENERATED VARCHAR2(1 BYTE),
    SECONDARY VARCHAR2(1 BYTE)
But I can not create a table using the upper DDL in 8i if I do not wipe off those "BYTES".
After creation of the table using the upper DDL without those 'BYTES', I sucessfully executed 'insert into LIUXG_TAB_01 select * from liuxg_tab_01@ctf'.
Anyone has a better method to move a table from ORACLE 10g to 8i?

    1) The particular version of 8i and 10g in use here would be useful. I'm not sure that Oracle supports database links between any version of 8i and any version of 10g, though, so you're probably lucky that it worked as well as it did.
    10g 10.1.0.3.0 and 8i 8.1.7.0.0
    2) What version of the export utility did you use? You would need to use the 8i version to generate the dump file to have any chance of working, not the 10g verion.
I use the 'exp' provided with 10g 10.1.0.3.0 and 'imp' with 8i 8.1.7.0.0. I have tried to export data directly from 10g 10.1.0.3.0 using 'exp' provided with 8i 8.1.7.0.0. Failed.
    3) Why? Since 8i is desupported, there isn't a lot of call for tools to move data from supported releases to unsupported releases.
We have an 8i DB which is still porivding insentive services. We just wanna migrate some tales from 10g to it.
FYI, NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS was introduced in 9i, so it's no suprise that 8i objected to the BYTE keyword in the DDL.
    What's FYI :P
Another option would be to generate a CSV file of the data from 10g and use SQL*Loader to load it into 8i. Not sure this would be any easier, though.

  • How to configure OEM for a database which is under OFS(Oracle Fail Safe).

    Hi,
We have customer who is using database 11g and also using OFS(Oracle Fail Safe) for switching to other machine if there is any problem with current machine. So how to configure Agent in this scenario.
What i have done is i have installed the agent on node1 and configured to monitor the database. it is monitoring properly. no issues.
But when database started from node2, here agent will not be there. Do i need to install the agent on node2 as well. Thanks in-advance for your support.
    Regards
    DBA.

    Hi,
You need to a script and run it on os level. Here is an example:-
    emcli relocate_targets -src_agent=agentmachine1.domain:3872
    -dest_agent=agentmachine2.domain:3872 -target_name=RACDB
    -target_type=oracle_database -copy_from_src -force=yes
    -changed_param=MachineName:agentmachine2.domain

  • OFS-Oracle Fail Safe Server

    Hi
    Oracle :10.2.0
    OS: Windows Server
I have an environment in which I am running oracle on Fail Safe Servers.
    that is active passive clustering.
I need to have a clean shutdown and startup.
what would be the best practice I can follow.
    thanks,
    reagrds,

For the database you would usually do a shutdown immediate, but really, the database should be able to recover from a crash, so you don't NEED a clean shutdown (though it is preferable)

  • Regarding Oracle fail safe

    Hi,
We have to use Oracle fail safe in our environment (windows server 2003 R2 64 bit with Oracle 10g 64 bit).
Please if anybody have doc for this please provide and which version will be compatible.
    Regs,
    Brijesh

    Hi Brijesh,
I used Oracle fail safe for Oracle AS 10GR2 and for Oracle 9iR2 Active / Passive cluster. Most of the documentation is provided by Oracle, and yes it helped me a lot to configure the setup. The links provided by Helios are sufficient for this.
May be you should refer this Doc as well from Oracle Metalink - Oracle Support
