Migrating Oracle from Solaris to Linux: Trouble converting FileSystem metadata with fscdsconv in Linux (Veritas Storage Foundation)

Hello everyone,
I'm in the process of migrating an Oracle DataBase from Solaris 5.10 server to Linux Red Hat 6.4, the storage used is SAN and volumes managed by Veritas Storage Foundation on Solaris
At this point, I'm trying to convert the byte order of some volumes that come from Solaris in my Linux server using the following command:
/opt/VRTS/bin/fscdsconv -y -e -f /tmp/vxConv/dbtemp01.tmp -t os_name=Linux,arch=x86 /dev/vx/rdsk/dgtemp/dbtemp01
Note: Because of the text formating, the above command could span several lines, but I'm executing it in just one
And I get the following errors:
UX:vxfs fscdsconv: ERROR: V-3-20012: not a valid vxfs file system
UX:vxfs fscdsconv: ERROR: V-3-24426: fscdsconv: Failed to migrate
Searching for a solution of these errors in the Veritas forums, I've found this post, where the user mikebounds gives some steps to migrate Solaris to Linux. I've found that I've replicated these steps but I get stuck on the fscdsconv because the beforementioned errors.
Does anyone know what could be happening here or have any sugestion to share?
Software Versions involved:
RHEL 6.4 x86_64
Veritas Storage Foundation Enterprise 6.2.0.100 on Linux
Solaris 5.10
Veritas 5.0 on Solaris
Disk layout v7
vxfs filesystem format
Oracle 10g
Thank you very much in advance for any help/ideas to solve this
Best regards
Raul

    Hi,
I'm currently working with Analytics on UNIX
(Solaris) and perform actions similar to yourself:
    1. Develop RPD in Windows (Analytics Admin Tool)
    2. Post to server (here I use an S/FTP-emulation tool such as WinSCP/Core
FTP), this handles any conversion of the file needed, i.e. to UNIX version.
    3. Start Analytics services.
In your case :- Open Solaris server via ftp and copy your Solaris rpd in window system then again try to login linux via ftp paste the related folder. FTP software like (Winscp software am using)
There is no much complex in this migration.

  • Relink failed when migrating EBS from Solaris to Linux

    Hi,
I am migrating EBS 12.1.1 instance from Solaris 10 to Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.5.
    Oracle version 11.1.0.7.0.
    And binutils version is :
$ rpm -qa | grep binutils

  • Migrating EBS from Solaris to Linux

    Hi DBAs,
I need to migrate the EBS (11.5.10.2) on 4 middle tier servers with single node database (10.2.0.4) running on Solaris 10 to Redhat 5.4 platform. The DB on redhat will be Cluster database with 4 nodes and PCP enabled. As it is a cross platform migration so I am thinking to use export/import of database.
But for application tier, I need help how to clone the environment from Solaris 10 to Redhat 5.4. Do I need to install the Application Software from scratch, if so then how to move the configuration and custom structure across the plateform. Can I perfrom or Use Rapid Clone from Solaris to Redhat. What all option available for cross-platform migration of EBS ?
Please suggest , any doc refer , white paper or step by step instruction would be great.
    Thanks
    -Samar-

    Samar,
Please close the thread if you want us to disregard this post.
For others reference, this can be done by referring to (Note: 238276.1 - Migrating to Linux with Oracle Applications Release 11i).

  • Migrating database from solaris to linux

I am not sure if there is a migration section here. However, I would like to migrate a 9.2.0.8 database from Solaris to linux and upgrade it to 11g. I reckon that both platforms have different endian format and using rman convert+transportable database and so on will be work if I can upgrade the database to 10 or 11g.
My question is that since the database is small around 35GB, can I use just exp/imp? If yes but can someone outline what will be needed to take care of the endian format and other hidden hints.
I believe someone must have done this ------> 9i to 10g or 9i to 11g across platform.
    Thanks.

It just depends on what how you define 'large'. Generally speaking exp/imp is slow when compared to Data Pump or transportable tablespaces (but both cannot be used in your case).
I don't think that 16 GB is large but you have to test in your environment how much time import is going to take: import needs always more time than export.

  • Migrating 9i from Solaris to Linux

I have a Solaris 8 (SPARC) server running 9.0.2.2 running a single database & instance. I'd like to migrate it to a Red Hat Linux (i386) server running 9.2.0.4, however I'm having nothing but problems using exp & imp. I wasn't aware of the "transportable tablespaces" feature until I read Re: oracle 9i - migrating from windows to linux, so perhaps that's something I need to take in to account also.
    I've been using this command:
    exp GRANTS=Y DIRECT=Y FULL=Y COMPRESS=N FEEDBACK=5000 FILE=/tmp/expdat.dmp
To export everything from Solaris, however when I try to import that dump file into Linux I get nothing but problems: it seems like users aren't being created, tablespace size limitations are different, etc. Is this because I haven't got transportable tablespaces enabled?
    Thanks,
    Chris

What's the size is your database? Using the exp commands I noted, the resulting file was ~ 2.7GB.
What's the actual command and errors you had when you
    do import?[oracle@windham ~]$ imp FILE=expdat.dmp IGNORE=Y GRANTS=Y INDEXES=Y ROWS=Y FULL=Y CONSTRAINTS=Y DESTROY=Y TOID_NOVALIDATE=Y

  • Migrating Oracle8 from Solaris to NT

We're moving our Oracle 8.0.5 database from Solaris 2.6 over to Oracle 8.0.6 on a Windows NT dual process Intel server. Any tips or suggestions on the best way to go about doing this?
    null

If you are considering balancing I/O with your database layout, yes ,you cannot do it with raid-5 because you don't have any control over where your file is placed. with raid-5 each file is split and written across the 3 disks in your case.
so at any point of time you will reading or writing to any of these three disks so there will definitely some contention during read /write as multiple files need to accessed during the database operation.
use raid-5 only if your database is reporting database.
it does not eliminate your need to specify the files, but you are trading performance for availability by using raid-5.

  • Migrate accounts from solaris-8 to solaris-10

    Hi,
    first excuse my english :-p
I have two mail servers (), the oldest (enterprise 250) runs under solaris-8, the newest (enterprise 450) runs under solaris-10.
I am going to transfer users e-mail accounts, I use the /etc/password and /etc/shadow for authentication, so I don't know how to transfer users passwords from solaris-8 to solaris-10
I tried to copy one user's pass from shadow file into the nes server but it doesn't work
    any idea???
    thanks

Upgrades from either Solaris 8 or 9 are supported (see the Release Notes http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/817-0552 section on "Changes in Upgrade Support for Solaris Releases").
As for whether to upgrade or install anew, it depends. If you just want to have the system set up as much as possible like it is now except with the new OS, upgrade. If you'd like a chance for a fresh start, where you may have to do some work re-applying configuration and other changes you made, but end up leaving behind some old changes you no longer need, then an initial install might be appropriate.

  • Migrating drivers from Solaris 9 to Solaris 10 (sparc)

I'm tasked to move some drivers from Solaris 9 to Solaris 10. Clearly, some elements of the interface have changed in this dot revision, as just installing the 2.9 drivers causes 2.10 to panic. I tried looking around the site for a guide to what changed in the driver interface. Can someone point me at a relevant document somewhere?

If the Solaris 9 driver uses only official / documented kernel
interfaces the same driver binary should run without problem on
    Solaris 10.
All bets are off if the Solaris 9 driver is using internal kernel
data structures that are not part of the kernel / driver api.
Such a driver could fail by just installing OS patches to the system.

  • Trouble converting powerpoint files with png images to pdf-Can someone help?

    Hello all,
In my line of work, I create and modify large sized posters that are created in powerpoint. I would have the files print ready by converting them to pdf. I usually have little to no issues executing this. However, I have been dealing with an issue of converting ppt files with png images. The size of the ppt is typically a 42x56 file. The several ways to convert to pdf produces an error each time. Png images are very useful as they provide much clarity vs jpegs or tiffs. The 3 ways I have tried below are:
    A) File>Print>Adobe PDF>High Quality print settings/300dpi results to an error message that says:
"Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current print setup. Try one of the following:
*Check the printer by printing a test page from Windows.
*Make sure the printer is turned on and online.
         *Reinstall the printer driver"
A blank pdf opens up (Selected to open file after publishing)
    B) File>Save as> Change file type as a pdf results in nothing happening. No pdf is produced.
    C) Acrobat>Create PDF results to an error message that says: "An unexpected error occured. PDFMaker was unable to produce the Adobe PDF."
Again, this all happens with ppt files with png images. I took out the png images and attempted to convert to pdf, and the pdf is produced!
Can anyone provide any assistance in creating pdfs with png images or what settings I need to adjust? I am able to covert every other image type (jpeg, tiff, bmp), except for png images.
I am using Microsoft Office 2010 with Adobe Acrobat X on Windows 7 (This happened on Windows XP as well).

    >I have a 48 slide presentation that has a small .png image in the "slide
    >master" so it will show up on every page.
PowerPoint only has to store one instance of the image even thought it is
displayed on multiple slides. But Acrobat can't do the same, the image has
to be stored for every page that it appears on, so that would explain the
    larger file size.
Acrobat is supposed to be able to optimize the storage of common background
images (at least that's the message I see when I do a "Save as..."), but I
have yet to see it to work. Maybe it depends on the application the orginal
file is created in and the PDF conversion method used.
Adding the image into a PDF file later as a watermark instead may be a way
to keep the size down (then it really only does store the object once),
though I believe that watermark images will appear in front of everything
else on the page (not sure if that's a problem for you, it depends on
whether any text or objects in the presentation ever appear in front of the
    image).
What are the dimensions and resolution of the image in PowerPoint? You may
be able to go as low as 75 dpi and not notice a difference, it depends on
whether the image contains any areas of high contrast or text.

  • Unbreakable oracle linux- cannot install veritas storage foundation

can install storage foundation 5.1 on redhat 5.5 same box and it works fine. When upgraded to unbreakable kernel, veritas becomes broken.
if install kernel first, then try storage foundation install, gets this error:
This release of VxVM is for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.
    Please install the appropriate OS
and then restart this installation of VxVM.
error: %pre(VRTSvxvm-5.1.100.000-SP1_RHEL5.x86_64) scriptlet failed, exit status 1
error: install: %pre scriptlet failed (2), skipping VRTSvxvm-5.1.100.000-SP1_RHEL5
I have looked and have found nothing that says it shouldn't work. Any ideas?

Not yet BUT have found this doc:
    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH50963&key=56211&actp=LIST
It appears that it is supported if you can reproduce the issue. Thing is the issue is the installation of the storage foundation packages. That works fine under standard linux kernel.
My question to you is if you have seen storage foundation work with the unbreakable kernel.

  • How to migrate users from solaris 9 to 10?

    Hi.
I have a V480 machine with Solaris 9 installed. In this machine I have 100 users registered.
I need to transfer this 100 users to a new server (T2000 with Solaris 10).
I need to transfer the user and passwords to the new server.
Copying /etc/password and /etc/shadow solves the problem?
Or only inserting manually one by one is the solution?
    Thanks
    Paulo

    Paulo,
FTPing /etc/passwd, /etc/shadow, /etc/group files should move all the user to the other system. If any user has a home directory then you need to tar the directory and FTP it over as well.
If there are more then one home directory for users then the best way is top tar the whole /export/home/ directory and FTP over.
    Hope that helps
    Imran

  • Trouble converting files created with 9.2 using 5.0 version.

I have multiple pcs using 5.0.1 version of acrobat without any problem.  Recently bought new pc with 9.2 installed.  Problem is when I create with new version, older versions can't open.  Error message says file corrupted.  I tried downloading all upgrades for older version.  Is there a solution without upgrading all other pc's with newer version?

I'm using Acrobat distiller from my 9.2 version normally converting a word document into PDF.  I haven't really changed any settings from original installation, but I'm afraid I must have some settings that are preventing those with the 5.0 version from opening.

  • Migrate Data from one SAN to other in AlwaysON configuration with no/minimal downtime

    Team,
There is a requirement to move the current DBs from existing SAN to new IBM SAN disks. I have outlined the below steps. Request you to please add your inputs/challenges/risks.
This is in Always ON and We have 3 Nodes.
    Server A , Server B and Server C
    A and B are Synchronous
    C is hosting Async replica.
Note: The SQL binaries are installed on E: drive which is a SAN drive. Whether is this going to be impacted based on my steps below?
Present the new SAN of same size  on all the nodes in the Availability Cluster.
Break the secondary replica. On Secondary replica, Migrate the data by physically moving the DB files from old SAN to new SAN.
Rename the new SANs back to the original filenames as it was present earlier. Bring up the services and join to Availability Group. Check whether the DBs are Synchronized with Primary.
Now, Failover the Primary to Secondary replica- This will be a short outage.
Follow the same steps on Primary as mentioned in Steps 1-3.
Check the Synchronization of the DBs and perform all the sanity checks.
    Thanks!
    Sharath
    Best Regards, Sharath

    Hi Sharath,
This can be easily achieved by storage migration by storage Vendor, In your case IBM should be able to do it, since they have sophisticated tools
(one of these tools is Storage Virtualization for Data Migration and Consolidation) to this SAN migration they don't need downtime during the storage sync process. your downtime will be only the Cutoff Time, If SAN Vendor does the Data Migration for you. <o:p></o:p>
    Otherwise,
    1. Take out read-only replica out of Always on Group.
    2. Since SQL is also installed on SAN drive, I strongly suggest you to rebuild the SQL Server as new. (No Copy of Data from SAN to SAN)
Note: Drive allocation and drive letters should be identical
    3. Once you rebuild the SQL Server, One Challenge here is to migrate the SQL Logins (You must migrate users using same SID, to avoid permission issues).
    4. then Add it Always on Group, and wait for the databases to sync.
    5.
Then manually move the always on group read/write replica to new node.
    6. follow the steps 1 ,2,3 and 4 in sequence.
    Hope this will help you.

  • Trouble converting RAW files with Camera RAW/DNG - CS4 Mac

    Hello!
I am using CS4, with Camera RAW 5.7 and Adobe DNG 5.7.  These are the versions listed as compatible with CS4.  I am using a new Canon Powershot S100.  Can I use newer versions of the RAW/DNG with CS4, or am I just out of luck? Please help!
    caroline

Same story we hear again and again.
New camera, old software, and the often un-stated expectation that the software company should go out of its way to provide new camera support for free.  First thought by those in the know is "you bought a new camera, why do you feel you don't need to buy new software to go with it?"
Those same folks who bought a new camera might never consider asking a camera manufacturer to make their new camera compatible with their old software.  It's a funny disparity.
Adobe walks a tightrope of expectations.  As it turns out, when you download the latest free DNG converter version they actually DO provide new camera support for free - it's just that converting to an intermediate file format is not quite as integrated or convenient as using the latest version of Photoshop with native support for that camera to just open the files directly.  Nor do you get the SIGNIFICANT improvements in image quality that the newer converters provide.
Use the DNG converter, but if you care about your image quality you'll consider upgrading Photoshop.  They really have made strides in raw conversion.
