Migrating user information between databases

I am not a oracle DBA but have been placed in the role.
My situation is as follows I need to migrate all the users from one database to another.
I am working on Oracle 9i and noticed there is a file called user.dbf that looks like the right one. Is it possible to just move the folder or is there a procedure to follow.
If anyone knows where to find some good documentation about this task it would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance
Lance

"I am not a oracle DBA but have been placed in the role."
You should go to the person who did the "placing" and tell them that if they value their data they should arrange for you to be trained properly. Who would this person choose if they needed heart surgery, someone they met down the pub who happens to own a knife ?
Your suggested method appears to be based on a wild guess and would ruin your database. It is no criticism of yourself, but like everyone else you were not born with DBA knowledge.

  • Sharing user information between networked machines

    I am trying to have one of my Macs act as a server of the netinfo database so that I do not have to replicate all the information on the other mac on the network. The hope is that I can create accounts on the one machine and also have it host the home directories When login in to the second mac, all the user info and home directory would come from the first machine.
    From the research I have done, it seems like I need to make a parent domain on the "server" machine and then share that with the other machine. I am having trouble finding out how to create the parent domain.
    I am running OS X (not server), but I think this should still be possible because of Unix under the hood.
    Thanks for any help you can provide.

    IF you wanna ask the question over at MacGeekery.com go ahead... but if not ill get around to do ing so at somepoint. Either that or ill have to review the Netinfo pdf again and figure it out... and that would probably be a long process.

  • Chat App: how to store the user IP in database when they login.

    hello,
    i am working on chat application. first i made a login GUI form. after login when we run the Chat program, it ask the ip address of the server to whom it want to connect. and if u enter the ip address, it will connect to the server and chat will begin, thats working perfect.
    but i want to show the list of users who r logged on and when i simply click on the user name, chat should begin.
    i have the logic that when any user log in, then its IP address will be stored in the database. this ip address will shown to the online users.
    but i dont know how to store the user information in database when they log in. can any body suggest me wht lines of code i should use.
    thanks.

    palakk wrote:
    i have the logic that when any user log in, then its IP address will be stored in the database. Bad approach. That will only work if this chat is only intended for use on a LAN. If it's used on the internet, then your users' IP addresses will almost always be either a) those of their routers, or b) private IP addresses, and in both cases, multiple users can have the same IP address.
    this ip address will shown to the online users. Why would you want to do that? I want to chat with "Bill", not with "1.2.3.4".
    but i dont know how to store the user information in database when they log in.Do the same thing that you're currently doing to store the IP address, but with the other information you want to store.
    can any body suggest me wht lines of code i should use. This is not a code writing service.

  • Migrate users from FND_USER to OID

    We are planning to authenticate Oracle apps users against OID and have installed a 9iAS Portal 1.0.2.2.2 environment with 11.5.7 and OID for this purpose.
    We need to migrate user information (username and password as a minimum) from FND_USER to OID. Is there a recommended way of doing this? Can the encrypted password in FND_USER be moved directly across to OID?
    Any help much appreciated.

    If your source and target servers can have access to each other use dipassistant utility to migrate all users with passwords to new server.

  • Cannot migrate exchange 2013 user to another database through EMC, only powershell works?

    Hi Everyone,
    I'm trying to migrate a few mailboxes from a database called "primary" to "archive". I can migrate a single user through powershell, however I cannot migrate users through the GUI. When the "syncing" starts, it reverts the total
    from "2" to "0" and makes it appear as though I never added any users to the batch job. The job then completes "successfully"
    I can see the users in the job before I hit start. Any idea why my job goes blank?
    I'm running exchange 2013 CU6

    Hi ,
    Thank you for your question.
    We could refer to the following steps to troubleshoot:
    Restart IIS to check if the issue persist.
    End up of the user job to check if the issue persist.
    Create a new account to check if the issue persist.
    We could check relevant application log, then we could check if EAC and EMS connect to same domain controller, then we could check sync between Exchange server and domain controller.
    If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.
    Best Regard,
    Jim

  • Confussing between Database User and Application User in Discoverer

    Hi All,
    I am new to Discoverer.
    Please let me know the difference between Database User and Application User in Discoverer Administrator as well as in Discoverer Desktop Editions.
    1) While I am trying to connect to Discoverer Desktop, I am unable to connect to it with Apps Database User.
    2) Where the Discoverer compenent will be installed and what the configuration settings need to done work on it.
    Please let me know the answers soon.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hello
    I think a database user should pretty much be self explanatory - this is a user account that exists in the database. This account is created by your Database Administrator (DBA).
    The second kind of user that Discoverer understands is a user that exists inside Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS), formerly known as Oracle Applications, hence an application user. This user account gets created by the EBS system administrator.
    Now, just because you're using EBS, it does not automatically follow that users will be application users. Let me explain.
    Discoverer can be installed in one of two modes, standard mode and Applications mode.
    The vast majority of organizations use standard mode which means they allow database users to access the system.
    The only time that you will need an applications account is under the following two rules:
    1. Your organization is using E-Business Suite, AND
    2. Your Discoverer administrator has installed Discoverer in Applications mode.
    Applicatons mode does not happen automatically, even if you have EBS, and you cannot install that mode by accident. You have to tell Discoverer that it is operating in that mode, provide some additional EBS account information, make security assignments and set users have to deliberately tell Discoverer they want to connect using an applications account.
    May I suggest you get hold of a copy of the Oracle Discoverer 10g Handbook that I wrote. That book explains in detail the differences between the modes. I also have a free white paper on my website that describes how to install Discoverer into Applications mode.
    I hope this helps
    Best wishes

  • How to get SSO logged user information in a database trigger

    my database is 9i
    my application server is 9i too
    I need to track which SSO user is inserting data into a table , so how can i get the information of that user in a database trigger on that table
    thanks

    Hi,
    The only way I could figure out how to get it was to import the com.sap.security.api.
    1. From Window>Preferences>Java-->Classpath Variables, set up a variable called WEBAS_HOME pointing to:
    <drive>/usr/sap/<SID>/jc00/j2ee/cluster/server0/
    2. Right click on properties of your Dynpro Project->Properties->Java Build Path->Libraries and click "Add Variable."
    3. Select WEBAS_HOME and click "Extend"
    4. Select /bin/ext/com.sap.api.sda/com.sap.security.api.jar and click OK.
    If you don't have access to a portal directory, you will have to get this jar file and copy it to your workspace to add to your build path instead of the above steps.
    Then in your code:
    import com.sap.security.api.IUser;
    import com.sap.security.api.IUserAccount;
      public void GetLogonID( )
         String LogonID;
         try {
              /*     create an user object from the current user */
              IWDClientUser wdUser = WDClientUser.getCurrentUser();
              IUser user = wdUser.getSAPUser();
              if (user != null) {
                   IUserAccount acct = user.getUserAccounts()[0];
                   if (acct != null) {
                        LogonID = acct.getLogonUid();
                   } else
                        LogonID = "acct null";
              } else {
                   LogonID = "user null";
              wdContext.currentContextElement().setDisplayName(user.getFirstName() + " " + user.getLastName());
              wdContext.currentContextElement().setLogonID(LogonID.toUpperCase());
         } catch (Exception e) {
              e.printStackTrace();
    Hope this helps...  I had to search several places before I found all the necessary stuff.  Maybe I can get my first points!
    Thanks,
    Andrew

  • Migrate scheduler jobs between 2 databases

    Hello,
    I'm working on migrating a tablespace between 2 databases on different platforms.
    I'm using DataPump for export/import, and I'm using the CONTENT=METADATA_ONLY parameter for the export/import of schema and tablespace.
    The schema owner has some scheduler jobs on the source DB, and after the migration, the same jobs appear on the target machine, but the ones with arguments cannot be run - I saw a bug (#5239417) exists on MetaLink on this subject - cannot migrate scheduler jobs with arguments if the above export parameter is used.
    Are there other ways to transfer the scheduler jobs between my 2 databases?
    Thank you,
    Adrian
    Edited by: AdrianM on Apr 6, 2010 7:54 PM

    is it JOB and SCHEDULE, my guess is schedule
    if it's job, then you can use dbms_job.user_export
    if it's schedule, did you try to generate DDL script instead of running the actual import and then run that DDL on a side? http://www.dba-oracle.com/job_scheduling/export_scheduler.htm

  • Migration of existing users to new database

    Hi,
    I am using weblogic portal server 7.0. I have configured my domain database
    to oracle 8.1.7. from pointbase (which is default).
    It's configuration has been done successfully. That means if i create new

    database which i have created previously.
    Is there any way to migrate users, groups from point base to new oracle instance?
    Thanks & Regards,

  • Difference Between Database Schema and Database User Account ??

    First i would like to know what an Oracle Database schema exactly is ?
    And what is it for and also What is it's use ?
    Later the exact "Difference Between Database Schema and Database User Account".

    Please try to explain in a simple manner........
    Thank you very Much in Advance..........

    user13655582 wrote:
    Greate example. but i would like add one more point..
    a user is a schema and schema is a user. but when this applies to the user that he become a schema, only if he has got some objects. so we can say while creating the user which dosent contain any objects called simple user account but afterwords when he has got an objects then we can say its a schema as the above user has shown you through the exampleIt is just word-play. There is nothing in like a 'status' indicator to say "USER_A is just a user but USER_B has become a schema". Many people use the terms "user" and "schema" interchangeably, and some very good DBAs will insist this is correct. I don't disagree with them even though I usually try to make the distinction.
    In a typical application, all of the objects (tables, procedures, etc) that implement the app will be owned by a "application schema owner" - a user which exists for the sole purpose of owning the schema. Said user will have no privileges at all .. especially not CREATE SESSION. Except for possible maintenance activity no one ever actually connects as this user. User accounts are then given to actual humans who connect with their own accounts. The accounts have the necessary system and object privileges granted to them - via a role. One could also create a special account (let's call it APP_ADMIN) that is used for maintenance and batch operations within the application.

  • How to Update Picture column in User Information List?

    Hi,
    The user updated his profile picture in mysite about 10 days ago. The updated picture is shown on his mysite but the same is not in sync with User Information List. The 2 timer job which takes care of the profile synchronization are scheduled as below:
    Profile Synchronization : hourly
    Quick Profile Synchronization : every 2 minutes
    And both the timer job status are shown as successful, yet the picture url is not updated.
    Can anyone kindly let me know is there any way to update the same manually.
    Please note that the version of SharEPoint is 2007 and Windows server 2003.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi Sheetal Lomate,
    It is correct to check the profile synchronization jobs to make sure profile information syncs between user profiles and user information list.
    If it is still not synced, please use the following stsadm command:
    stsadm –o sync –listolddatabases <x number of days>
    If one or more content databases show up in this list, clean up the list, they can be added to the list again:
    stsadm –o sync –deleteolddatabases <x number of days>

  • User information incorrect in Office 2013

    We are in the process of migrating from Office 2010 to Office 2013 and are having issues with displaying the correct user details in User Information under File-Account.
    We have Enabled the policy "Block signing into Office" and set this to "None Allowed" as we do not want users to use accounts other then their domain accounts.
    Problem we are having, is that the email address shown is incorrect to what is in AD for the user.  It looks as if Word is creating the email address from the sAMaccountName and appending the domain details to the end.  ie
    First Name:  Jon
    Last Name: Davis
    sAMAccountName: jodavis
    email:  [email protected]
    but the email address displayed in Word 2013 for the current (logged on) user is
    [email protected] and not
    [email protected]  Where is it getting the email address details from as it certainly isn't the email attribute in AD.  Any help would be much appreciated..
    Kind regards
