Migration from FB (Former Budgeting) to BCS - Commitments/Actuals

Dear Experts,
We are going to migrate our system from FB (Former Budgeting) to BCS, in the middle of the current year.
The migration activities deal only with Budget data migration.
My question is:  How to migrate Commitments and Actuals ?
We use only Payment Budget
Please advise
Yaacov

Dear Yaakov,
Are you thoroughly clear on the concept and functionality of Budget Control System?
Compared to FB, BCS provides changes to 2 main functionalities in PSM-FM:
1, Budgeting/planning
2, Availability Control (AVC)
-> This means, that the processes / functionalities / technical details for commitments/actuals are not changed in any way by implementing / migrating BCS.
The BCS implementation changes the data structures for budgeting tables. That is why migration of data from old budget tables to new ones is needed (even this is not mandatory, if you choose to use old reports for old budget data). You can check budget table correspondency between FB and BCS here: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_rc10/helpdata/en/c3/2c344071c82b22e10000000a1550b0/content.htm
The main point is, that commitment/actuals data is not changed, and thus no migration for those is possible (or needed). The commitments remain to be updated in table FMIOI and actuals in table FMIT. You just need to use the new BCS reports to view for example budget consumption when BCS has been activated (for example report FMRP_RW_BUDCON).
Also, you might want to consider if the migration of the old budget data is overall an absolutely mandatory requirement. Technically, you do not need to run any migration, but you can use old FB reports for previous fiscal years and just simply load only future budgeting data into the BCS. At my customer it was decided that no migration is needed, and we went successfully live with BCS withtout any issues. For past fiscal years they will be using FB reports.
Best regards,
Mikko

  • Steps to migrate from former budgeting to BCS

can any one suggest the complete steps to migrate from former budgeting to BCS and what are the steps which are to specially cared of.

    Hi,
    Follow these instructions:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp60_sp/helpdata/en/7b/981b57da056c48904c8a9c0df67b51/frameset.htm
They are quite complete and if you do not have any specific developments in your SAP system, then you should not encounter any problem during the migration process.

  • Former Budgeting Vs BCS

    Hi Guys,
We have to configure the "Funds Management" Module for our client. What would you guys suggest we should opt for
    1. Former Budgeting
    2. Budget Control Systems
Appreciate and value your suggestion and if some one has the latest documentaion available for BCS, can you please forward or atleast tell us where to look for it.
    Regards
    Saqib

    Hi Saqib,
Please find below mentiones some important point wise comaprison of both BCS Vs budgeting.
BCS:The functions in this component support budget planning, budget execution and allow you to monitor the availability of funds. The budget control system (BCS) in Funds Management is an alternative to former budgeting. BCS is designed to allow flexible customer-specific adjustments to all important functions. BCS is SAP’s strategic budgeting tool.
Implementation Considerations:If you use the Grants Management component integrated with Funds Management, only BCS fulfills the prerequisites necessary for this. This also applies if you want to work with funded programs for the account assignment. The required FM account assignment elements Grant and Funded Program are only supported in BCS.
SAP does not intend BCS and Former Budgeting to be used at the same time. Therefore, menu transactions, functions and the necessary Customizing are separate.
If you want to use the budget control system as an operative budgeting tool in Funds Management, you must activate this in the Customizing of Funds Management, under Basic Settings->Activate Global Functions for Budget Control System ( BCS).
Integration:All other FM master data is also supported in BCS, as well grant and funded program master data.
BCS includes an integrated planning tool with basis functions for budget planning. If you want to use comprehensive budget planning, you can exchange data with SAP’s Strategic Enterprise Management.
You can use BCS together with Position Budgeting and Control (PA-PM-PB).
The Business Information Warehouse System (BW) is intended as a comprehensive reporting tool for the budget control system, starting from Release 3.0B. You can upload your BCS planning data from BW. BCS only works with Funds Management and Grants Management, not with other components that can also budget.
Features: You can select the relevant FM account assignments as budget addresses and posting addresses from the entirety of the master data combinations, by using the functions of the Budget Structure.
    ·        Budget distribution and the assignment of posting addresses, budget addresses and availability control objects in BCS depends on the master data hierarchy, which you can define as you wish by using derivation strategies defined in Customizing.
    ·        Customer-definable budget types, entry document types and consistency checks in BCS Budgeting allow you to map the requests of your organization in the system.
    ·        Budget entry and budget update activities are based on documents and are logged in budget entry documents. You display and maintain these in the Budgeting Workbench.
    ·        Status Management allows you to subdivide the budget execution process in individual budgeting phases and define specific user roles through different authorization assignments.
    ·        The BCS Availability Control is a flexible tool that you can customize to monitor and compare budget values and commitment/actual values. This control allows you to use independent availability control checks simultaneously.
Restrictions:The budget control system delivered with the Enterprise-Release (EA-PS 1.10) is new and will be enhanced with additional functions in following releases.Functions such as revenues increasing the budget and releases are supported with release EA-PS 2.00. SAP also provides support for migration from Former Budgeting to BCS.
Note that BCS reporting functions are not designed for comprehensive management reporting. You must use the Business Information Warehouse system as of Release 3.0B. BCS is not intended for use by German Government customers.Because of the reasons given above, SAP recommends that you analyze your organization’s existing functions and requirements.
Hope I had been able to help you. Please assign points.

  • Migration from oracle forms to SOA

    Hello everybody,
I work in a company that develops a product for financial institutes. we have the product developed using oracle forms, and we want to migrate it to an SOA environnement but i have some questions that i'd be happy if someone answered to them.
1- We want to use oracle soa suite for the migration, in this case should a client, who will buy the application, buy oracle SOA suite. if this is the case, what are the minimum components of oracle soa suite a client should buy.
2- Can we implement a service oriented architecture without using an ESB??
3- What steps could we follow to migrate from oracle forms to oracle SOA suite.
    thanks

From my knowledge acquainted through White papers - This is what I think - Even I am in the process of understanding and learning SOA enablement technologies,
Migrating from Forms world to SOA - If there is a real need to migrate the solution to latest technologies then we have to capture the forms logic to redesign in ADF of the Fusion Middleware techstack but if the business need currently works well with the forms based application and we have other system which need integration with this forms based system - You can definetly keep all the hetrogenous systems and architect using SOA to talk to each other - For this it would beneficial to use ESB and BPEL (ESB - To primarily serve as a communication medium between the hetrogenous systems and BPEL to overall orchestrate the process from end to end)
In this way you have all the disparate systems communicating and business running smooth through a SOA based process and in the mean time you start on the reverse engineering process of all the individual systems to migrate to the latest technologies (If there is a business need for the technology shift)
It would be really beneficial to you if you spend some time reading about the SOA and more than technology what exactly is the underlying goal of SOA and then understand what are all the various components of SOA to govern this architecture such as ESB, BPEL, BAM, Rules etc..,
    Thanks

    Hello.
    Thanks for your response.
    Here is the motivation.
We have still applications developped with Oracle Forms 6i (old version no more supported). We are investigating for doing the migration with a limited expense to Oracle Forms 10g or HtmlDB.
    Another questions are :
Is it possible to migrate from Oracle 6i to Oracle Forms 10g ?
Oracle Forms will still exists ? until when ?
    Many thanks for your cooperation.

  • Migrating from Oracle forms 4.5 to 9i

Please tell me if i can directly migrate from forms 4.5 to 9i?
If i migrate first to 6 and then to 9i when do i web enable my form?
What are the steps should i follow for migration from Oracle forms 4.5 to 9i?

Strictly speaking we only certify the upgrade from 6i to 9i, however, the technical details of going from 4.5 directly to 9i are the same and in many cases should work as going from 6i to 9i.

  • Migration from Former budgeting to BCS

    Dear experts,
is there anybody who has experience with migration from FB to BCS?
If yes, which method have you used - from scratch, migrating totals or migrating documents and what
problems have you met during the course of migrating?
    Thank you in advance,
    Toni

    Hi,
I did this migration in some 8-10 projects; all sorts of methods. Normally, if you follow the steps which are described in help.sap.com you should not encounter any problems, if you have no special developments done in FM.

  • How do I migrate from a former user account on an external drive after a clean install?

This question has been partially answered before but not to my satisfaction and, from what I've found, not for Mountain Lion.
My MBPr was running fine for a week after I transfered my User account to an external drive. After some reorganization I decided to move the acount to a different external drive. I blundered and, for whatever reason, was unable to log in to any account on my MBPr. Not even my backup account - which suprised me. (I tried repairing disks, permissions, etc...) I tried to resolve it on the phone with Apple to no avail. Finally, I gave up. I booted into recovery and did a reinstall. After 12 hours I came back to find that it wasn't a clean reinstall. And I still couldn't log in to anything.
I then did an erase and reinstall. After another 12 hours I now have a clean install of Mountain Lion on my MBPr. I have an external drive with my former working user directory (Home:Users/mrmoose) on it. (BTW, It is LARGER than my internal SSD drive, it is not bootable, AND I have no backup of it in Time Machine format.)
My current user account is Macintosh HD:Users/bullwinkle
    1) Is there a way to "reclaim" my user account on the external drive - possibly without even copying or migrating?
    2) Can I copy the contents of bullwinkle (excluding some of my folders under Documents so it fits) to Macintosh HD Users/bullwinkle? Including the Library folder? I have audio plugins, etc...
I'd still like my User directory on an external drive. But I will settle for keeping it on the internal drive. I just want my info back.
Why, oh, why does Migration Assistant require your data to be in TIME MACHINE format only - why can one not migrate from a full copy on an external drive? Why can't it look at the darn thing and say, "Hey, that's a copy of an OSX User directory. I can migrate data from that."?
I would greatly appreciate a detailed response. THANK YOU. Lama Out.

~/Library is probably the one you don't want to move back because it may bring the issues back along with it.
All your own data you can drag & drop. You can drag the contents of any folder Movies, Music, Pictures, Documents (or as much as you want).
Rather than try to replace the Library you can take ~/Library/Application Support, Mail, Safari and any other folders you need.
To access your hidden ~/Library folder go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key to choose "Library".
Then you can drag it to the Sidebar for easy access.

  • How to migrate from oracle forms 6i....

    Hi......
i'm currently using Forms 6i having abt 150 forms nad 2oo reports, now i want to migrate all my forms and reports to oracle 10g/11i.
Which will be the better option to migrate 10g/11i???
which will be easier to migrate 10g/11i ??
Is there any complication in migrating from 6i to 10g/11i??
Will there be any dataloss if i migrate ??
can i install oracle forms and reports 6i ,10g and 11i in single system ??
    thanks in Advance,

Are you currently deployed on the web or as c/s. Generally speaking for upgrading Forms its a case of open in the builder, regenerate and run. For c/s to web there may be some extra steps to do but generally speaking most Forms will run out of the box.
    CHeck out otn.oracle.com/formsupgrade
There is also a batch option to help you and there are of course Oracle partners who can help as well.

  • Any example customer has migrated from Oralce Forms to ADF?

Any benchmark or how many customers have done the migration from Forms to ADF?
Btw, is all kind of Froms convertible by Froms2ADF tools ?
    thanks for any suggestion.

Here is my view on this:
In general, people tend to underestimate the effort involved in migrating from Forms to ADF.
Migration tools like the JHeadstart Forms2ADF Generator can be of help, but are by no means a silver bullet.
    When does JHeadstart save time
The amount of work that can be saved by using the JHeadstart Forms2ADF Generator (JFG) very much depends on the structure of the Oracle Forms application at hand. The JHeadstart Forms2ADF Generator provides most savings for forms that have the following characteristics:
    - Standard-Forms data retrieval and data manipulation through blocks based on database tables, with master-detail relations defined between the block
    - Complex user interface, many (stacked) canvasses, many tabs, many list of values, and other display types
    - PL/SQL logic mostly limited to user interface dynamics: conditionally showing/hiding user interface items, and conditionally changing the properties of user interface items. While JHeadstart does not convert PL/SQL logic, this type of logic is easily implemented in the ADF application because JHeadstart provides many declarative property settings to implement this behavior.
    PL.SQL Logic
JHeadstart has made the deliberate choice to not automatically convert the PL/SQL logic to Java. The reasons for this are:
    - It is impossible to automate the migration of a two-tier architecture (logic in Forms or in the database) to a three tier Model-View-Controller architecture as is common in JEE web applications, including ADF-based applications.
    - The architecture of the converted application should be identical to the best-practice architecture of an ADF application that is build from scratch. If the architecture is the same, the same skill set can be used to maintain both migrated applications and ADF applications build from scratch. In addition, by going for a best practice architecture, the application is more flexible, and can be maintained easier at lower cost.
    - When using the JHeadstart Forms2ADF Generator, you get this best-practice ADF architecture that is identical to ADF/JHeadstart applications that are built from scratch.
    Other Forms2ADF Considerations
Even if it turns out the JFG adds value, there are many other questions the customer should ask himself before embarking on a Foms2ADF project. For example:
    - Apart from technical reasons like old Forms verisions no longer supported, are there real business reasons and business benefits for migrating that justify the migration effort?
    - To what extent is the application still meeting functional requirements?
    - Are there issues with stability and end user friendliness?
    - Old forms applications are typical "window-on-data" screens, you see the structure of the datamodel through the layout of the screens. Modern web 2.0 composite applications are more task-oriented with good support for human workflow. The customer should consider to what extent it wants to leverage all these new user interfaces capabilities that come with ADF Faces and WebCenter.
    - How does the application fits in the overall IT landscape of the customer? What interfaces to other systems exist, what (old/obsolete?) technology is used to implement those interfaces?
    - What about batch functionality and reporting facilities?
    - May be part of the functionality of the current system can be replaced with standard off-the-shelf software?
    - How sound, well structured and future proof is the underlying datamodel?
    - To what extent is the customer looking at service-orientated architectures? Whats the SOA maturity level of the customer?
    - Above questions help to answer the key question: how desirable and beneficial is it to migrate an old monolitic forms application 1:1 to a monolitic ADF aplication? How does that fit in overall IT strategy?
    - Organisational isues: who will migrate the system, who will maintain the system? Is outsourcing considered? etc.
    Some customer experiences
Over the years I have been involved with a number of customers that migrated from Forms to ADF. With some of these customers we used the Forms2ADF Generator in the proof-of-concept phase to convince them of the combined power of ADF and JHeadstart. However, with NONE of these customers we used the Forms2ADF Generatpr during actual migration, for various reasons as listed above. All customers eventually chose to truly re-engineer the application while rebuilding in ADF achieving signifcant new business benefits that justified the investment. A choice recommended and encouraged by me, despite the fact I am the creator of the JFG. Note that ALL customers use JHeadstart heavily forbuilding the re-engineered ADF application, they just don't use the Forms2ADF generator, but the JHeadstart Application generator to create the ADF app from scratch.

  • Migration from Oracle Forms to Oracle Apex 3.2

Hi I am learning Apex, I mainly work in Oracle developer. I have converted one Oracle form into Oracle Apex. the migrated Form appears on the screen, works, but not as I like it to be. All the triggers are migrated into Apex but they don't work as they did in Oracle Form. I cant make the form work as it should be. please help.

Triggers in forms will NOT work EXACTLY like they do in Forms, that is the nature of the beast.. APEX runs under a browser and you are running with html events to trap on..
Suggestion, the Forms conversion tools converts only so much, you will have to do some work to get what you want. Also, I would suggest re-evaluating your application, since it was probably a client server based application, moving it to the web will involve some re-engineering..

  • Help in migrating from adobe forms 6.0 to 7.1

    Hi
I have a set of adobe templates that have been developed in Adobe Livecycle designer version 6.0.
Now I will have to move these to Adobe LiveCycleDesigner 7.1
I could get a document 'Compatibility of Adobe Designer 6.0 for designs with Adobe LiveCycle Designer 7.1"
I read abt the text formatting compatibility and event model compatibility of the form designs.
What could be the best way to do this?
If i open the version 6.0 in Adobe LiveCycle Designer 7.1 and do a simple "save-as"...will it work??
    Appreciate your response
    Thank you

It is not the Designer per se that decides what is supported in your template ...it is the target version that you are designing to. So when you open it in Designer 7.1 then go into Form Properties/Defaults you will be given additional options for the target version. If you target version 7 then you can test the things that you mentioned .....if it causes you issues then you can change the target version to 6 and all should be the same as before.

  • Difference between Former budgeting and Budget Control System.

    Dear experts,
I am looking for a document/guide which can explain the salient feature of BCS and how the same is more beneficial compared to Former budgeting.
Additionally, help is also sought on how to migrate from former budgeting to BCS upon upgrade in ECC 6.0?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Manoj,
    You can follow this link.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp60_sp/helpdata/en/a6/17f53b9f150248e10000000a11402f/frameset.htm
It explains clearly the benefits of BCS as well as migration tools that SAP provides. If you do not have some non-standard enehancements in your Former Budgeting, then migration won't be a problem.
