Migration from Roaming Profiles to User Profile Disks - RDS 2012 (R2)

Hi, I'm currently in the process of tweaking our RDS 2012 environment and have a question I hope someone can help me with....
The users who log onto the Collection are currently using roaming profiles stored on a 2008 R2 file server, but I'd like to move them onto User Profile Disks (looks to be a lot of pro's to it). Is there a way to migrate users profiles from roaming profiles
to User Profile Disks? We already have a lot of users on the farm with roaming profiles and I'm guessing if UPD is enabled, it will only take effect with new users? I need to do this without too much hassle if possible
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Hi Paul,
Thank you for your posting in Windows Server Forum.
Sorry to disappoint you, but you cannot able to move\migrate the roaming user profile to new User profile disk on server 2012\R2. You need to move them manually. Please refer below thread.

  • Migration Assistant showing 0.0kb User Profiles

    Hi all,
My iMac hard drive recently died, but I have been backing it up to Time Machine to a backup disk, so I'm trying to migrate my user account to my friend's MacBook. However, Migration Assistant keeps displaying these user profiles as having 0.0kb. Why is this? It seems to just hang when I attempt to migrate data. Also, how would I go about migrating just the settings and permissions of the profile, and keeping the rest of the data on the drive?
    Thank you for any help

  • Migration from Small business server 2011 standad to Windows 2012 Server Standard

    Hi everyone,
I have a network with SBS 2011 standard (that is the only server) and now we are moving (migrating) to windows 2012 server standard with an exchange 2013 (not yet installed).
The main thing is that when trying to install the migration tool on the SBS server, it will not install because it is not a 2008 R2 server.
is there a workaround for this problem?
I Hope this will help. Amir Ovadia

    Hi,
Would you please first let me know how did you perform the migration? Regarding the migration tool, is it the Windows Server Migration Tools in Windows Server 2012 R2? Since you need to install
the Windows Server Migration Tools on the source SBS 2011 server, I suggest we could perform the following steps to install it.
Create deployment folders for ource computers by running the
smigdeploy.exe tool (included with Windows Server Migration Tools) on your destination server.
Register Windows Server Migration Tools on source computers that are running Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008, or Windows
    Server 2003 by using SmigDeploy.exe.

  • Is it possible to migrate local profiles to user profile disks?

    Hi guys,
Is there an easy way to migrate local user profiles on an remote desktop server to user profile disks? I am replacing a Server 2008 R2 and want to start using UPD's instead on a Server 2012 R2.
    Best regards,
    Hasan

    Hi Hasan,
Thanks for your posting in Windows Server Forum.
As per my research, you can able to achieve your data by choosing the option “Store all user settings and data in the user profile disk” would obviously capture everything normally stored under C:\users\<username>
and add that to the UPD. But please notice however that you can only select the roaming part of your user profile data.
On UPD profile is stored in a .VHDX file specific to your account which is placed on a central share. Upon logon a mount path is created under
C:\Users\<username> that points to that .VHDX file on the share. This makes the solution fully transparent to the Operating System and applications. If you’ve used UPD before you will have noticed that the filenames of the .VHDX files hold the
users SID, not the account name.
For more information, please refer below articles. (You can refer below article for Server 2012 R2)

  • How can I recover from Windows login failure: User Profile Service failed the login

I have Boot Camp installed on a separate partition on a MacBook Pro, late 2011 model. I have Mavericks installedd (10.9.1). I use, variously, both Parallels and VM Fusion to access the BootCamp installation of Windows 7.
Except for having recently installed updates of both VMFusion and Parallels, I got this failure message when trying to login to Windows:: The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.
I had just been on Windows a few moments previously to access a business site that only accepts IE. Appreciate any useful insight on dealing with this issue without having to totally replace the BootCamp installation. A lot of the suggestions on Microsoft Windows repair sites are either incomprehensible or don't seem applicable.

Same problem here. Windows 7 support gives several so-called fixes (including regedit tweaks, eliminating the blocked user account), but all require access to that partition. So far as I know, I have only one user, since this is my personal computer -- unless there is some sort of default "administrator" logon.
Windows support says the problem might be caused by antivirus software running while we try to logon, but this problem has never happened to me before, and I have not made anti-virus changes (maybe AVG or Avast did so automatically)
I tried to access regedit through Finder, but get a garbled text-edit with the message that regedit cannot be opened by DOS.
So I wonder (a) is there a default admin logon? (b) Can we tinker with the settings inside Windows from Finder, or (c) how else can we get into Windows?
My setup: Macbook Pro (Fall 2010), 10.6.8, boot camp, Windows 7.

  • Import a filed value from custom database into User Profile using BCS

    Hi,
I have a custom DB in SQL with couple of columns.
I need to import one of the fields (userid) into user profile - custom property.
Please guide me to make it done.
My direction seems wrong..since I am new to user profile-BCS concepts.
I created a custom property in user profile services, while "configure synchronization connections', I clicked on new connection.
    Type: Business connectivity services, selected
    It needs external content type.
I opened CA through designer, clicked on External Content type, I am able to connect SQLDB and related fields.
But, I am not sure what to be done?? How to make my task completed.
    Guide me, somebody, please!!
    - GEM

This should create the External Content Type
    Open SharePoint Designer
Choose the Site where you want the External Content Type to be created
Under Site Objects -> Click External Content Types
In the Ribbon -> Click External Content Types to create a New one
Provide a name for your ECT
Click ‘Click here to discover external data sources and define operations’
Click Add Connection, under Data Source Type choose SQL Server
Provide the connection properties to your SQL Server
Under Data Source Explorer, Expand the tables folder and choose the table you want to connect to
Right Click the Table Name and create a New Read Item Operation
Under Input Parameters, Select the Primary Key of your table and verify that it is map as the identifier. This is important as this will be the column that will be used to sync BCS data to SharePoint. Click on Finish
Right Click the Table Name again and create a New Read List Operation. Follow the steps on K
OPTIONAL: Once done you can create an external Lists based on the content type to verify if you are able to pull data from your External Source
You can verify if the list is created by going to the site where you have deployed the External List. If you encounter a “Access denied by Business Data Connectivity, you can resolve this by going to Central Administration -> Application Management ->
Manage Service Applications -> Business Data Connectivity Service, choose the External Content Type you have created -> Click Set Object Permissions -> Add the account that your are using and Set ‘Execute & Set Permissions’. Refresh the external
    list page.
This will create the connection between the BCS properties and the Custom User Properties which are mapped to BCS.
To create a synchronization connection follow the steps below
Go to Application Management -> Manage Service Application -> User Profile Service -> Configure Synchronization Connections
    Click Create new Connection
Provide a connection name for your connection
Under Type, choose Business Data Connectivity
Under Business Data Connectivity Entity, choose the External Content Type created on the BCS Step
Choose the property to identity the 1:1 mapping, this is a unique column that should exist on both the BCS Data and the SharePoint User Profile Properties.
This part will create the Custom User Profile Property to hold the BCS Data
    Go to Central Administration
Under Application Management click Manage Service Application
    Click User Profile Service Application
Click Manage User Properties then select New Property
    Fill the necessary fields
Under Add New Mapping, select the BCS Sync connection you have created above and the field from SQL where you want to map this property
    Run Profile Synchronization

  • How to see and add usernames from other forest in User Profile Synchronization

    Hello Community
Using Sharepoint 2010 Server there are 2 forests each containing their
domain users, lets call them  Forest1/Domain1 and Forest2/Domain2 and their
is a one-way trust relationship between the two forests.
The users are in Forest2/Domain2 but Sharepoint is on Forest1/Domain1. The
only way I have been able to add the users from Forest2\Domain2 to the Forest1\Domain1
has been to create a domain local group and an OU in Forest1\Domain1 and then put the
domain local group into the OU so that I can perform a UPS Synchronization on those
users (I also create a group on the Sharepoint 2010 Server add the users there too).
The problem is that when I run the UPS Synchronization I can select the
checkbox for the domain local group but the individual usernames are not displayed in the
    Synchronization process of populate container.
The only names that get Synchronized are the Sharepoint Service Accounts and
the usernames that were created in Forest1\Domain1 AD.
Consequently when users in Forest2\Domain2 logon they can access the intranet web appl
in Forest1\Domain1 by entering the url in the address box, but they cannot create a
My Site when the click their username because they get an error stating:
        "This page can't be displayed".
But username created in Forest1\Domain1 can access the intranet web appl and
    can create a My Site.
I noticed that the difference is when users from Forest2\Domain2 get the error message
in the address box I see the My site url but it is missing "default.aspx" page which is
the page that contains My Content and My Profile and is the page that can't be displayed.
But the users from Forest1\Domain1 have the My Site url in the address box with
"default.aspx" appended and therefore can create their My Site.
The other problem is that when I go to the My Site url page and I go to People
and groups, I can add the OU that was Synchronized but I guess since I didn't see the
individual usernames I can't add the users from Forest2\Domain2 from the people picker
because the people picker error says:
       "no match found".
But the people picker finds the users created in Forest1\Domain1.
How do I make usernames visible when Synchronizing those usernames in the UPS Synchronization
process and be able to find them in people picker?
        Thank you

  • Migrating from DPM 2010 on WS2008 R2 to DPM 2012 SP1 on WS2012

I currently have a primary DPM01 server and a secondary DPM02 server, both running on Windows Server 2008 R2 physical servers. DPM01 has a dual port FB HBA which connects to our SAN where the storage pool is located. It also has a SAS HBA for our tape library,
because of that the new/replacement will be on a physical server as well.
A new physical server was bought as an replacement for DPM01, WS2012 is installed on it. The FC HBA as well as the SAS HBA will be taken from DPM01 and installed on this new server.
DPM02 will be installed from scratch with WS2012. Storage pool from DPM01 will remain, DPM02's storage pool will be deleted and recreated in a .vhdx. The new DPM02 will be a VM (doesn't have a tape attached to it).
Could someone please provide me with a short checklist, order in which I have to do the "updates".

  • Migrating from TFS2010 to TFS2013 and SharepointFoundation2013 on WindowsServer 2012 R2

    Hi,
I am in the middle of a migration project to upgrade our TFS2010 instance to TFS2013. Our new environment will be a VM using Windows Server 2012 R2 64 bit along with SharePoint Foundation 2013. The SPF2013 SP1 needs to be installed separately since
the one that is bundled with TFS2013 doesn't work with R2 (not SP1). I am having trouble understanding the order to which to do things to get this to work. I actually got it to work the first time and now going back trying to redo my steps with detailed docs
    is proving more difficult.
We have begun by doing a BackUp of our TFS2010 environment and then Restoring that to our new TFS2013 VM.
I am then installing SharePoint Foundation SP1 - prereqs then Install.
I then begin to wonder about the screens as to a) connect to existing server b) create new server
Although I would think that I want to connect to existing since we have a database we've Restored I am given an error
At what stage do we run the migration tool that updates all the database schema etc to the new 2013 format?
I am being told that "Cannot find an existing configuration database located at the specified database server...
Could someone please list the steps to do this migration? None of the steps I am trying seem to work through.
    regards,
    Bill44077
    William Campbell

    Hi William
TFS 2013 and SharePoint are different systems with a very thin integration between them. Hence the upgrade scenario should be viewed as two different scenarios.
On one hand you have the TFS databases (Tfs_Configuration, Tfs_<TeamProjectCollection> and Tfs_Warehouse), on the other hand you have the SharePoint databases (SharePoint_AdminContent, etc. Now, the TFS upgrade will only modify the TFS databases while
the SharePoint upgrade will only upgrade the SharePoint databases.
So what you need to do is the following:
    SharePoint upgrade:
Install SharePoint on you VM. This will create a new SharePoint_AdminContent, etc. databases
Detach all content databases on your existing SharePoint instance
Create a backup of the content databases and restore them on your VM
Attach the content databases on your VM. This will trigger an upgrade of the content databases if the SharePoint version differs.
SharePoint on your VM should now be operational with the same content as the old SharePoint instance
    TFS upgrade:
Restore all TFS databases (Tfs_Configuration, Tfs_<TeamProjectCollection> and Tfs_Warehouse) on your VM
    Install TFS 2013
Select the "Upgrade" option in the wizard. Point it to the Tfs_Configuration database you just restored. This will upgrade all TFS databases to the new database schema
    Integrate SharePoint with TFS
In the Team Foundation Server Administration Console you need to integrate the existing installation of SharePoint

  • It is Possible to Migrate Local User Profile to Roaming Profile Using USMT?

    Dear All,
1st, I'm following guide at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/142682 to copy user profiles to another user, but the problem is the 'Copy to' button is not active (grey). I try
using 3rd party tools, still no change.
2nd, I try to transfer local profile on the same machine and different user using Windows Easy Transfer, it's work and all of data has been restore to a new user. But not all App Settings is restored, when I open Outlook 2010 and Windows
Live Mail, there's need to enter password again. That is not problem for me.
3rd, After migrate/transfer (2nd step) I want to migrate from local profile to roaming profile, but user profile setting on local profile is not copied to roaming profile, such as Email setting need to create new account but all data is
not problem, because I have already configure on ADUC and GPMC.
    My question is:
    1. How to copy or move all Application settings on AppData Local folder to roaming profile?
    2. How about USMT, it is possible to migrate user profile settings from local to roaming? if is the best tools, how to do this?
    Please, advice...
    Thanks,
    Hendra

First, I dont understand why you're using the copy profile method. I'll make the assumption that you have a domain user account that you you need it's files and settings moving to another machine.
In that scenario then there's a simple guide here:
    Migrate User Accounts
For Roaming Profiles and Redirected folders; you can follow the
Infrastructure Planning and Design (IPD) Guide for Windows User State Virtualization (USV).
It sounds like a mouthfull but it actually makes the whole process easy. There's also a video
    here.

  • Automatically Upload Pictures from Sharepoint local drive to SharePoint User Profile store using C#

My Windows Server 2003 AD accounts have roaming profiles and user home directories stored in different locations on Windows Server 2003 servers. How do I prevent my MacOS tiger clients from copying the local user profiles for AD mobile accounts to the respective remote home directories?
This unwanted behavior is quite similar to using Windows 9x clients in similar AD environment.

I do need to automount the network home directory but do not desire to have it sync with the local home directoy. I disabled the "create mobile account at login" option and enabled "force local home directory on startup disk" and "use unc path from active directory ..." and these appear to have resolved the problem. Unfortunately the network home directory no longer automounts, nor do network accounts show up at the logon prompt (strangely enough, they can be configured to autologin.)
