Migration OAS 4.0.8. to 9i AS

What should I do in order to migrate present applications from OAS 4.0.8 to 9i AS?

Have you tried the migration docs at:

  • Iplanet to Oracle 10g AS

    Hi Folks,
    I am trying to upgrade an application in iPlanet 6.0 to Oracle 10g Application server.
    can anyone provide some pointers or past experiences on the same.
    esp regarding version incompatibilities of various technologies
    and the regarding any tools for bulk migration

    Not a bulls eye but these are few things I found useful.
    (If anyone can add their thoughts that would be great )
    My hunch is that will have to use
    First, ASMT (Application Migration Assistant from Sun)
    to upgrade the application to latest J2ee version
    and then use
    Application Migration Assistant from Jdeveloper
    to port to Oracle 10gAS

  • Creating new Managed Servers on remote machines

    Hi,
    We have a multi-machine domain already in place. Nodemanager is configured and we're using the architecture suggested in Oracle SOA Enterprise Deployment Guide, where we have one domain home for the AdminServer and one domain home for the Managed servers. Right now what we need to know is how to add new managed servers in the easiest and fastest way possible on the mserver home on both the adminserver local machine and on the remote machine, this is a development environment and we need to be able to quickly create and delete these servers for developers to work.
    We know that the standard way of doing it is doing a pack (for the managed servers only), and then an unpack on the mserver home both on local and remote machine after changing the root directory of these servers to match those homes. Here is were we have our first doubts. Do the unpack command command has to be run with the already running servers down? Does this pack and unpack process affects what we already have deployed on the running managed servers? And last but not least, is there any way to automate this process? Because we need to give the developers the ability to create clusters on the environment through the admin server console, but without giving them access to the underlying operating system.
    If this seems like a newbie question is because we are, we're just in the process of migrating oas 10g to weblogic 11g and there are tons of basic administration stuff that seem pretty strange for us, we've looked through the Oracle manuals and metalink but even though some show you how to create the domain with remote managed servers for the first time, we couldn't find any mention on how to add the mserver efficiently after that.
    Thanks!

    Cris,
    Thanks again for your help, we're trying to figure out how to present this procedure to our customer, just one thought though, we were thinking about moving away from the architecture presented by de SOA Enterprise Deployment guide, and using a single domain home located on the shared storage, that way we could create the managed servers from the admin console without having to use pack/unpack and deciding where to run the servers just by configuring machines and nodemanager. However, we haven't seen this kind of configuration anywhere on Oracle manuals, is there any other problem you are aware of in this idea? We're using a storage with multipath for the shared disk so we're not very concerned about availability (and if the storage went down the weblogic domain would be the least of our problems).

  • Setup banner page for printing

    Hello,
    I am working with AS team to migrate OAS printing from Samba to LPD based printing using standard windows print queues. However our initial testing no banner page printing on LPD. The banner page prints with Samba. I am just wondering if banner page is part of OA or Samba?
    TIA!

    ....I was told I could connect my printer to so we can print from our iPad, iPhones and iPods.
    Unfortunately, the information that you received is not correct.
    In order to print from iOS devices, you need to have an AirPrint compatible printer.  Your Samsung model is not on the list of AirPrint compatible devices.  See this Apple support document for more details:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356
    Adding or ssing an AirPort Express will not make your printer AirPrint compatible
    As a possible workaround, Installing an App like Print Central on each of your iOS devices might allow you to print from the iOS devices to the printer.

  • Migration from OAS 10g to Weblogic 10.3

    Hello,
    I migrate large app from OAS 10g to Weblogic 10.3.
    1.
    The main part of the job was to prepare descriptors for Weblogic. Unfortunatelly I don't find any tool that could do the job:( There are some problems with descriptors namespaces. This schema and namespaces given in 10.3 docs are not working (not available):
    http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs103/ejb/DD_defs_reference.html
    So I use the one from 10 release in weblogic-ejb-jar.xml:
    weblogic-ejb-jar xmlns="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/10.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
    xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/10.0 http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/10.0/weblogic-ejb-jar.xsd">
    and form 9 release in weblogic-cmp-rdbms-jar.xml:
    <weblogic-rdbms-jar xmlns="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/90" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
    xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/90 http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/90/weblogic-rdbms20-persistence.xsd">
    There are also some bugs in docs about ejb relations.
    After fixing some schema compliance exc this step success.
    2. Next the EJBComplianceChecker - its much more restrictive than OAS verification. So updates in ejb interfaces are necessary. It is not a problem with small app but when there ale a lot of code/branches to migrate it's become a problem. I have been looking for some switch that could help with this but with no result/
    EJBComplianceChecker - Spec veryfication level
    3. Now after EJB compliance checker done its job with success I have an exception that I do not understand:
    An error occurred during activation of changes, please see the log for details.
    Exception
    preparing module: EJBModule(corpo_ejb.jar)

    weblogic.ejb.container.ejbc.EJBCompiler.doCompile(EJBCompiler.java:357)

    JDT compilation error!
    Could you please give me some point where the problem could be? I don't have any idea where to start looking for..
    What are your experiences with migrations from OAS to Weblogic 10?
    Thanks in advance!

It seems you have migrated a J2ee application from OAS 10G to Weblogic 10.3. Please can you list me the steps that you followed to migrate the application.
    As per my understanding follwing things needsto be taken care of:-
    1) Weblogic Descriptor files:
    1.1 Weblogic.xml:- we added security roles and ejb-reference-description for the ejbs.
    1.2 Weblogic-ejb-jar.xml for all the ejbs used in the application.
    1.3 Weblogic-application.xml

  • OAS's application migrates 4.0.8 to the OAS 10G

    I am trying to migrate an application that runs in 4.0.8 to the OAS 10G, and i want to know if you know if some procedure for best practice for do this.

    Hi,
    What kind of applications are you running?
    4.0.8 is quite old. The documented approach would be to go 4.0.8 > 1.0.2.2.2 > 9.0.2.3 > 10.1.2.0.2, which does not sound to tempting to me at least.

  • Deployment of JSR-109 Web Services on Weblogic 11g (OAS migration)

    Hi.
    I'm being part of an ongoing migration effort from Oracle Application Server 10.1.3.5 to WebLogic 11g (10.3.6). Some of the OAS applications use old JSR-109 Web Services, where each service has the following components:
    - A SEI interface that extends java.rmi.Remote and declares the service methods, which throw java.rmi.RemoteException (e.g. ServiceSEI)
    - A service implementation POJO that implements the SEI interface (e.g. ServiceImpl)
    - A [Service]-config.xml file that declares the service and relates name, namespaces, packages, interface and implementation (e.g. Service-config.xml)
    - A declaration of the service implementation POJO as a servlet (with mapping) in web.xml (docs says it doesn't have to be technically a servlet)
    - A webservices.xml file that defines the service and references the mapping file.
    - A [Service]-mapping.xml file that defines the WS-Java mappings.
    All the artifacts look right according the old documentation:
    - Programming Web Services for WebLogic Server, Creating a J2EE Web Service Manually: http://otndnld.oracle.co.jp/document/products/wls/docs92/webserv/jsr109.html
    - Web Services for J2EE 1.0 Final Release Spec: http://download.oracle.com/otndocs/jcp/websvcs-1.0-fr-spec-oth-JSpec/
    The Web Services work OK in OAS. When I try to deploy any of the application that contain one of that services to WebLogic, I get the following Exception:
    <BEA-101216> <Servlet: "WSServlet_Procesos" failed to preload on startup in Web application: "/webapp".

    I obviously though the EAR package given to me was incomplete, lacking the ClassNotFound related class, but the package was OK, and is exactly the same that deploys without problems in OAS.
    The ClassNotFound related class is referenced in the <java-xml-type-mapping> element of the [Service]-mapping.xml file, e.g.:
    <java-xml-type-mapping>
    <java-type>co.com.acme.services.ServiceSEI_serviceOperation_ResponseStruct</java-type>
    <root-type-qname xmlns:typeNS="urn:Service/types">typeNS:serviceOperationResponse</root-type-qname>
    <qname-scope>complexType</qname-scope>
    <variable-mapping>
    <java-variable-name>result</java-variable-name>
    <xml-element-name>result</xml-element-name>
    </variable-mapping>
    </java-xml-type-mapping>
    I searched the OAs installation deployment dirs looking for the missing class and found it was present in a Jar called deployment-cache.jar. According OC4J related documentation, this Jar es auto-generated at deployment time.
    Weblogic 11g documentation says that kind of Web Services will continue to run, without any changes, on version 10.3.x of WebLogic Server because the associated Web services run time is still supported in this release, although it is deprecated and will be removed from the product in future releases (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/web.1111/e13760/upgrade.htm). I know the right estrategy is migrate the Web Services, but right now my client needs to deploy and use them as they are. I think WL recognizes my service since internally is calling a "Deploytime109MappingHelper" class.
    ¿Is there any way I can deploy that kind of services to Weblogic 11g? ¿I'm I missing some required step?
    As a workaround, I included the OAS generated deployment-cache.jar into the EAR to deploy in Weblogic 11g and the app deploys without errors, but I see this is not a nice solution.
    Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Esteban

    Hi. The [Service]-mapping.xml file is a standard "JAX-RPC mapping file" according the JSR-109 spec and WebLogic 9.2 doc ([1],[2]). That's the file that references the class. Here's a fragment:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?>
    <java-wsdl-mapping xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" version="1.1" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee http://www.ibm.com/webservices/xsd/j2ee_jaxrpc_mapping_1_1.xsd">
    <package-mapping>
    <package-type>co.com.acme.services</package-type>
    <namespaceURI>urn:Service/types</namespaceURI>
    </package-mapping>
    <package-mapping>
    <package-type>co.com.acme.services</package-type>
    <namespaceURI>urn:Services/wsdl</namespaceURI>
    </package-mapping>
    <java-xml-type-mapping>
    <java-type>co.com.acme.services.ServiceSEI_serviceOperation_RequestStruct</java-type>
    <root-type-qname xmlns:typeNS="urn:Service/types">typeNS:serviceOperation</root-type-qname>
    <qname-scope>complexType</qname-scope>
    <variable-mapping>
    <java-variable-name>String_1</java-variable-name>
    <xml-element-name>String_1</xml-element-name>
    </variable-mapping>
    </java-xml-type-mapping>
    I'll take a look at the ant task.
    Thank you very much.

  • Migration of OAS 10g v(9.0.4.1) from one server to another?

    Hi,
    I would want to know how I can migrate j2ee applications that are deployed in OAS 10g v(9.0.4.1)installed on Sun server to OAS 10g v(9.0.4.1) installed on AIX server at the same OAS 10g version and patch level?
    My question is: Can I just copy the application files from the existing instance to new instance or do I have to deploy each application independtly on the new instance?
    How I can perform migartion of OAS 10g from one platform to another platform?
    Thanks in advance!
    GN

    Hi GN!
    I would think that copying the files will not be enough, as the DCM will not have the information about the deployed applications. Just redeploy them and it should waok as well as on the original server.

  • OAS - Weblogic Migration

    Hi
    Now we have below applications running in OAS.
    1) Apex applications with reports
    2) Forms applications
    We want to migrate to Web Logic or Oracle Web Tier.
    1) We can migrate apex applications to Oracle Web Tier, But If we want to run reports Is there any plugin to run reports. With weblogic we can install forms and reports, but without weblogic is there any option to run reports just with Oracle Web Tier with any other plugins/utilities.
    2) If the above option does not work then we need to use Web Logic, With forms and reports plugins we can run these applications but how to run the Apex applications in Web Logic?
    3) We have forms in OAS where we call one form directly and this form will call other forms during working with the application.How to migrate this application to weblogic. Is this need to be deployed as an application...
    Can you pls let me know the best option to run all these application in the latest versions.

  • Migrating from OAS to iAS9

    Hi!
    I'm looking for documents about migrating from OAS 4.0.8.1 (Linux & HP-UX) to iAS9. The document i have found on OTN don't tells me much about how to migrate from JServlet and PL/SQL.
    My main questions are:
    - how do i migrate my Servlet, which uses many Oracle spezific classes (icx etc.). Are these Classes supported in iAS?
    - how i call PL/SQL-Skripts from Servlets now? Is ICX supported?
    - can i use my PL/SQL scripts without modifications? I'm using only htp.print
    Che
    null

    a) ICX is not supported from Java. However, ICX is just http library - kind of like java.net.url. So, you should be able to do everything that ICX provided using java.net packages. If not, pl. submit a followup and we can discuss.
    b) The way you would call a PLSQL procedure is you would just submit a request thru java.net.url package. The target url of this request would be one that maps to the plsql procedure. You will thus have the response back in a string.
    c) You can use your plsql scripts without modifications [at least for what you are doing. there are some minor changes, but they don't impact you.]
    The other thing to note is that you cannot runa standalone sql file like you could in OAS. It has to be in the database.

  • Problem - Migration from OAS 4  to 9ias

    We have upgraded the application server from 4 to 9ias and are
    now running into problems with calling stored PLSQL procedures.
    Here is a code snippet of an example stored proc:
    PROCEDURE Test (
    num_entries in NUMBER,
    name_array in OWA.vc_arr,
    value_array in OWA.vc_arr,
    reserved in OWA.vc_arr
    Basically if I call this procedure (w/o any paramaters) using
    the old application server and associated plsql cartridge, it
    runs no problem loading the webpage and such. Now when I try to
    call the same procedure using the new 9ias mod_plsql, it says
    there is an error.
    Error output (when connecting using browser)
    Test: SIGNATURE (parameter names) MISMATCH
    VARIABLES IN FORM NOT IN PROCEDURE:
    NON-DEFAULT VARIABLES IN PROCEDURE NOT IN FORM:
    NUM_ENTRIES,NAME_ARRAY,VALUE_ARRAY,RESERVED
    We have found that if you do not set a default values for any of
    the parameters that it comes up with this error. Is this in fact
    the case? Do default values have to exist for procedure
    variables when using 9ias? If so how would I set the default
    values for this test procedure if Number is integer, and the
    rest are arrays.
    Does anyone know of a migration tool specifially for this
    purpose as we are going to update multiple procedures?
    Any help would be beneficial.
    Dale

    Gurus,
    I figured it out. I should read the documentation more closely.
    Found it in...
    For questions about backwards compatibility with OAS, refer
    to "Using Flexible Parameters and the Exclamation Mark".
    I just have to put a exclamation mark in front of the procedure.
    Easy fix

    I suppose this paper is Oracle internal only at the moment.
    If you have the option, try JDev 11g and setup all the JDBC and JMS stuff in it.

  • OAS 10R2 image copy migration

    Hi All,
    We have applications with Oracle forms and reports and connecting to an Oracle database. The OAS version used for this is OAS10gR2 on a Server with Solaris 9 OS. we are planning to upgrade to Solaris 10 version. i would like to know the following :
    1. If we perform a live upgrade from Solaris 9 to Solaris 10 on the existing server, will there be a need to reinstall OAS on the server? Also will there be a need to recompile and install all the fmb and mmb files? (will the existing fmx still work with OAS after upgrade of OS without any modification?)
    2. If we perform an image copy of the existing server (Solaris 9, OAS 10R2 and fmx, mmx etc) onto a new server hardware and then do a live upgrade of the OS on new h/w to Solaris 10, will there be a need to reinstall the OAS? and will there be a need to compile the form and reports to have new executable?
    The current server is a physical dedicated server and we are planning to retain the same architecture after migration as well.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi GN!
    I would think that copying the files will not be enough, as the DCM will not have the information about the deployed applications. Just redeploy them and it should waok as well as on the original server.
