  • Extracting 16:9 mini dvd problems

I've been having so many issues using MPEG Streamclip & DVDxDV to extract 16:9 mini dvds. My DVD player recognizes them as widescreen format -- but when opening in MPEG Streamclip or DVDxDV to extract them (and use in FCP), they are always 4:3.
In addition, when fixing timecode breaks using MPEG streamclip, the audio is always off by a few seconds.
    Can anyone help me! Thanks,
    Jenny

Wow...thanks so much! I can't believe it was as simple as checking the anamorphic flag -- I wish I'd posted sooner -- could've saved tons of time!
As for the audio sync problem -- I think I'm just going to reimport the DVD's now & hope for the best -- I think the settings I had previously used in MPEG streamclip to try to fix the anamorphic issue had screwed up the entire thing.

Help please. Extended display won't work on MBP and AOC 20" 1600 x 900  60HZ monitor. Mirror display does. I've a mini dvd to vga converter cable. Should this work?

I have the same mini display port adapter and Belkin DVI-HDMI cable (but a Panasonic 42" Plasma HDTV) so just set this up on it to see if I could duplicate your problem, unfortunately for you (but good for me) I can't.
I connected the adapter+HDMI cable before switching the HDTV on and then powered up the MBP. It (the HDTV) came up with my background right away (it's set at Mirror not extended Desktop) and when I run System Preferences/Displays get the following. Sorry but all I can confirm is that adapter+cable combination should work ...
Try doing a Parameter RAM reset - hold down command/option/p/r keys at start up and wait for three chimes before releasing the keys?

  • Importing movies from a mini DVD made from Sony handycam DCR-DVD105

I have a Sony Handycam DCR-DVD105. It records on to mini DVDs. I can play them with no problem into my DVD player, but when I put them into my external drive my computer recognizes it as a dvd but imovie dose not recognize it as a readable file. Do I need to convert this file to a different format? If so , with what program?

  • Trouble Getting Files From mini-DVD (Handycam)

I don't know the first thing about those little camcorders that record to mini-DVD, but I'm working on a movie for a girl's dance team, and while most of what they gave me to work with was miniDV on an external HD, they did give me a mini-DVD with just under four minutes of footage on it to use also. Fortunately that disc isn't very important to them, and I don't really have to use it.
Anyway, I can't play the disc in my set-top DVD player; it says there's no disc. My computer's DVD player will play it fine using PowerDVD Player. I tried to rip the disc using DVD-Shrink and it acts like there's no disc in the tray too. Then I managed to rip it to the desktop as an ISO image with DVD-Decrypter with no problems. After that I tried to open the ISO image with DVD Shrink and it says: "Invalid UDF File System".
So, anyone have any idea how I can get the VOB files from this ISO image?

Well I think I kind of did that Bill. That is, I managed to rip the DVD to the desktop via DVD Encrypter and then burned the new ISO file to a new DVD. It still wouldn't open with anything I have that converts ISO to VOB files.
I looked at Sony's website about Handycams and it says this:
"After finalizing the disc in the camcorder, the disc can play back in most DVD Players".
The disc they gave me is a DVD-RW. Maybe the disc hasn't been finalized?
    But Sony also says:
"With DVD+RW media there is no need to finalize the disc (minimum recording required); simply remove the finalized disc and insert the media into a compatible DVD or Blu-ray Disc Player."
But the disc they gave me is DVD-RW rather than DVD+RW. At any rate I'm wondering now if maybe they should have finalized the disc before giving it to me and forgot to do it. The disc only has about 4-minutes of footage on it, so I'm guessing maybe they didn't finalize it because they thought they would add more later. I'll have to track down the owner and see what they have to say.
    Thanks

  • Help! Import from Handycam Mini dvd to ANYTHING!

Hello, sorry if this has been asked dozens of times before. I searched for recent posts but none seemed to cure my problem. I am trying to get files from a sony handycam mini dvd camera (I know, I know. It's not mine) into an editing program. Final Cut won't recognize the files and so my only hope if for imovie to. I am running imovie 4 point something. The camera only has a usb wire, it's not able to do live capture due to it not being a tape, so what do i do???
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Or if you can refer me to a thread that covered this, I'll see if It can help.
Thank you apple support, you're my only hope.
    -Joeyc

I have handbrake, but I can't get my computer to read the files encoded on the mini dvd. Also, I need the quality better. Hopefully I can get it good enough to put up on a big screen; at least .dv or .mov. Main problem is, getting the files so that my apple can read whatever format sony created for their stupid little discs. Way to make things universal sony!
    Thanks,

  • Can I use mini dvd's in my new imac?

Have several movies made with sony mini dvd camcorder, can I put the mini-dvd in the dvd slot of my imac, or will it get stuck? Thanks,
    Dan

I was thinking about this and one way to avoid this problem completely is to invest in an external Pioneer Burner housed in an ext. FW enclosure.
Essentially one needs to make certain the drive has the capacity to play such a disk prior to its insertion into the machine.

I realize it's much harder to do this visual exam on a laptop or a slot loading S-Drive as opposed to a slide out tray as shown above.

  • IPhoto compatible with Sony Handycam (with mini-DVD)?

I have a Sony Handycam and a MacBook Pro with iPhoto. The Handycam takes decent pictures and video, but it does not have a port for a memory stick. Also, the upload software that the Handycam came with... well... isn't so good. (I'm not sure if it's even Mac-compatible.)
Unfortunately, the Sony Handycam is not listed as one of the "cameras" that iPhoto comes with. (I put the word "cameras" in quotes because the Handycam is more a video camera than a still camera even though it takes still pictures.)
If anyone here knows of a workaround so that I can upload pictures from my Handycam to my MacBook Pro using iPhoto (or other appropriate software in the iLife suite), please let me know! I'm dying to have an excuse to not install the uploading software the Handycam came with.
    Thanks in advance!

The Handycam's video format is one that in not OS X compatible. i don't know about the stills, however. I don't believe the mini-DVD disc that it create is Mac readable either. It's designed to go straight to DVD players and display the videos and stills on a TV set.
Do a search in the iPhoto 6 forum for "Sony Handycam" and you'll find previous topics on the subject. You might also try in the iDVD and iMovie forums.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Import from MINI DVDS FROM CAMERA (FREE WAY)

Hey is there any free software that can help me with my problem, Thanks
Hey everyone. I just bought a mac... I need help importing my videos.
1st. I plugged my camera into the imac (MY camera takes mini DVDS-RW so i cannot just put them in the mac)
2nd: the dvd icon came onto my desktop, but when i open it i got a blue folder that is labeled DVD_RSTAV.
3rd: I opened it and the files inside were VR_MANGR.BUP and VR_MANGR.IFO, and also VR_MOVIE.VRO (The files inside the DVD_RSTAV folder are grey and green lettering in the top left.)
But when I open i movie HD and try to import nothing happens.
Is there any programs or software mac compatable that could help me import, or do u know how to import.
Thank you for taking yor time to help me

    Hello Scott,
AFAIK, there's no free way to convert MPEG-2 to DV. While MPEG Streamclip is freeware, it requires Apple's MPEG Playback Component for Quicktime for MPEG conversion. See the system requirements for Streamclip:
This free software requires at least Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) and QuickTime 6. It is also compatible with Mac OS X 10.3.x (Panther), Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger) and QuickTime 7. It works with PowerPC and Intel based Macs. For MPEG-2 playback and conversion, you need the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component.
    hope this helps

  • Intel Mini DVD+RW re-burns fail: 4/03/00 Hardware Error, Peripheral device

I can't re-write DVD+RW discs on my Intel Mini. The log says:
Backup: Burn sense: 4/03/00 Hardware Error, Peripheral device write fault
Backup: Burn error: 0x80020022 The device failed to respond properly, unable to recover or retry.
It happends with every Philips 4x DVD+RW I have after first burn. Also the log says it is trying to burn at 47x speed. Could this be why it is so noisy - it spins up like a rocket at 5 second intervals and then the disks can't be ejected.
Backup: Requested burn speed was 47x, actual burn speed is 4x.
Is this a sign of a bug or just an optimistic Backup?

I'm 99.99% sure this is an Intel Mini Superdrive problem now. I think it is incompatible with the Philips DVD+RW media. I will try to get new +RW media soon and see if I get joy with other formats.
I have taken the exact same media from the same pack and I can burn > erase FIVE times on the same disk, and not a single problem yet on my PPC G4 mini. I can only dream of doing this cycle once on my Intel Mini.
Intel mini (OS X 10.4.7) has:
    Vendor Product Rev
    MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-846 FM3J
PPC (OS X Server 10.4.7) mini has:
    Vendor Product Rev
    MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-845 D8PB
What's more the PPC mini makes almost zero noise, only one burst of quier "roar" near the start of erase. Contrast this to the constantly 5s roaring cycle that makes you raise your voice on the intel mini.
I believe my Intel Mini is either faulty or there is a firmware issue with the drive.
Can somebody else try Philips 4x DVD+RW discs in an Intel Core Duo and report their drive info?
    Thanks in advance

  • Mini DVD stuck in drive

My darling son, who never causes us any problems, has done it this time.
He inserted a mini DVD into the drive slot. It never booted, the machine doesn't recognize it has a disk in the slot, it can't be ejeted, there's no little paperclip hole, etc.
    Any ideas for removing this?
(My son appreciates a prompt reply so he can once again have dessert after dinner.)

  • Need help getting video on a mini DVD to my MacBook????

i am trying to find a way to download the video (& audio), which is on a mini DVD in my video camera, to my MacBook. I have my Sony Handycam connected directly to my MacBook...In the past, i have used Diva to get the video on my laptop, but the problem with Diva is that it does not do sound only video... Somebody please help me.........thank you

you have to solve two problems:
never ever put miniDVDs into slot-in drives (as in iMacs or laptops) => buy any external dvd-drive..
    second, conversion of (finalized) DVDs:
    copy/paste:
for using the iLife vers. ≤6 apps, you have to convert'em first, in recommended order, choose one of the following tools/workarounds:
DVDxDV (free trial, 25$, Pro: 90$)
    Apple mpeg2 plugin (19$) + Streamclip (free)
    VisualHub (23.32$)
Drop2DV (free, requires installation of ffmpeg parts, google for it...)
Toast 6/7/8/9 allows converting to dv/insert dvd, hit apple-k
connect a miniDV Camcorder with analogue input to a DVD-player and transfer disk to tape/use as converter

  • Mini DVD and MBP confusion

    Hello,
I recently bought a new MBP and I'm a bit confused about the DVD drive.
According to apple, "some slot loading drives may support mini-DVD's (80 mm)"
According to these discussion forums and what I've seen online, thats not at all true, and putting one in your macbook will make the DVD get stuck.
As for the converter thing that you put the mini dvd on to make it a full sized disk, I've seen some people who say that this works and some say the DVD still is not recognized.
    so, who's right?
info on the drive in my macbook:
    HL-DT-ST DVDRW GSA-S10N:
    Firmware Revision: AP12
    Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
    Cache: 2048 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write: -R, -RW
    DVD-Write: -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Mike,
The external enclosure will have a "firewire bridge" which converts between ATAPI (essentially the same connector as IDE) and Firewire and a power connector. It is simply a matter of plugging in the cables that come with the enclosure, doing up a few screws and bob's your uncle. The process is almost identical to installing an internal drive in a PC, but easier as you don't have to worry about where to plug things etc!.
"Cooldrive" seem to be a good source in the US - http://www.cooldrives.com/525usbfircas.html
If possible look for one with an "Oxford" chipset in the Firewire bridge (if they have this they will usually brag about it - rather than the cheaper "prolific" bridge). This one looks about right for a cheap option, or this one for the next step "up market"!
Compatibility used to be an issue under earlier versions of OSX and OS9 but these days is rarely a problem. When it was a problem, a little utility called "patchburn" would almost always overcome the problem, but it is not needed under Leopard.
Both Pioneer and LG drives seem to work fine.
    Cheers

  • Mini DVD-RW

I am helping a friend with a video compilation of his son's soccer games. All of his footage is on mini dvd-rw disks that were recorded on his friend's camera. He gave the disks to me to edit and when I put them in my computer immediately iDVD opens, as it should if I were to insert a blank dvd-rw, but these have footage on them. When I put the disks into one of my dvd players it just loads and loads and loads and never finds the media, and when I try to play them on another dvd player it can't read the format. What should I do? Any ideas would be VERY appreciated!
    Kelly

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Your problem could be many things.
Open System Preferences (Blue Apple Button > System Preferences...)
Go to the CDs and DVDs section under hardware. Change both:
When you insert a video DVD:
    and
When you insert a blank DVD:
    to
    Open Finder.
Now, the DVD will appear in Finder, and you can edit it from there.
For a proper DVD, the two folders that should be on there should be:
    AUDIO_TS
    and
    VIDEO_TS
If these aren't on there, then there are two possibilities:
    Either the disk is blank
Or your friend saved just the video files onto the disk, not in DVD format.
If the disk is blank, then your friend forgot to burn the DVD.
Also, if the files are there and it still doesn't work, then the disk might be corrupted.
    Hope this helps
