Mini (early 2009) and Verizon Westell wireless router 326A

Mini will not connect to Westell DSL by ethernet or wireless, it does however "see" the router both wired & wireless. Modem will connect to G4 (10.4...) or Windows box.
Mini will connect both ways with a Westell 6100 F modem (1 ethernet slot) and also subsequently through an Apple airport or Linksys wireless.
I have connected through two other DSL locations but not through the Westell 326A at my home.

Tried changing back to broadcast. Still no luck. When selecting automatic for most setting, it cannot find an IP address.  When I manually select and IP address and others, the PS 3 finds an IP address but does not get any further, I keep getting the DNS error (80710102). I've tried about 4 or 5 different primary and secondary DNS addresses, but it keeps coming back to the same DNS error.  I can only think that I am not putting in the correct DNS servers, but not sure what else to try.

  • Mac Mini, Sonology NAS, And Apple AirPort wireless router, Will this work?

OK, so my plan is to create a home movie server for the living room and the kitchen as illustrated in the diagram. I Plan on using a mac mini (current generation) as the liaison between the NAS and the receiver. I will install XMBC on the mac mini’s as a movie organizing software. I will use the iPad app to control and select movies from the system. This setup will repeat in the kitchen with the exception that I will connect the mac mini directly to the television in which the audio out will go to a jack which connects to the in ceiling speakers. Will this work? Are there any other suggestions that anyone has to make it more streamline? I also assume that there can be simultaneous movies being watched in both rooms via the NAS. Thanks for all of your comments and help

in theory, yes, but you work network admin may have locked the network preventing this from working

  • How can i install 8 gb ram on a mac mini early 2009 when it says i dont need the EFI firmware 2.1?i can only install 4 gb but the side of OWC says i can install 8 gb? what to do?

i have a mac mini early 2009 and i want to install 8 gb ram but it doesn,t work.
it says on the OWC site that i have to install the EFI firmware 2.1 update but it won,t let me,it says(the mac mini)that i don,t need this update.
my kernel is 32bit but my EFI is 64 bit,how can i install 64 bit so i can use the 8GB cause with 32 bit i can,t use more than 4gb ram

    Check your computer's EFI Boot ROM version;
    1. From the Apple () menu, choose About This Mac
    2. Click More Info Under Contents
    3. Select Hardware
    If your Mac mini's Boot ROM version is the following or more recent, then you do not need the update to use 8 GB of RAM;
    Boot ROM Version: MM31.0081.B06

  • Westell wireless router for free?

Hi, Ive been a long time high speed internet user and I still have my westell dsl modem.
Can I upgrade to the westell wireless router for free or is it just for new customers, thank you.

Normally you do have to pay for them, but Verizon may send one to you for free if you ask nicely. All you need to do is purchase your own router if you do wish to have one.

  • Hard drive for mac mini early 2009 model

    Hi,
My hard drive stopped working, and I would like to purchase a new one.
After checking with several vendors, I could not get an official answer if their drive is supported by Mac Mini early 2009 model.
Can you please advice what hard drive vendors/models do you know are supported?
    Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The Mac mini uses a 2'5" hard disk, and near all of these hard disks will work with your computer. You can buy the hard disk in OWC > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/
If you want more information, you can only use 9.5 mm hard drives, so search them in OWC and you will find hard drives that will work with your computer. HGST drives have a good reputation and work very well

  • How to make Mac Mini (Early 2009) sleep in Lion?

After upgrading to Lion, my Mac Mini (Early 2009) stopped going to sleep from the Apple menu or from the keyboard. The problem has persisted with all point releases of Lion. The computer went to sleep with the same peripherals just fine under Snow Leopard.
The display goes to sleep but the computer itself neither suspends nor hibernates. The power light is lit and doesn't pulsate. Measuring how many watts the device draws from the power socket shows that it's not sleeping. It wakes up so quickly that it must be only the display sleeping.
Console log shows nothing when trying to sleep.
Changing the hibernate mode from the default 3 to 25 makes no difference. Running the PleaseSleep app make no difference.
How to put Mac Mini (Early 2009) to sleep (preferably hibernation--not just suspension) under Lion?

    Hello,
Open console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last problem  & the Startup right after that for clues.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • Confirm iSight with Mac mini (early 2009)?

Can someone please confirm that an iSight (external Firewire 400) camera actually works with their Mac mini (early 2009)? Of course, that will need a Firewire 400 to Firewire 800 adapter.
I can't get mine to work. I've used two different iSight cameras that work on other (older) Mac minis. I've used the cable that comes with the iSights and another Firewire 400 cable.
When I plug it in the iSight makes a noise and the light comes on briefly (for a second or two) and then it goes off. No applications that require a camera (like Photo Booth) see the camera.
I'm worried that this Mac mini may not have enough power to run the iSight, which is probably also an ominous sign for unpowered external Firewire drives.
    Thanks for any assistance.
    Cheers,
    Ashley.

Well, it seems that I have found my sad answer!!! The very same issue. New MAC MINI, Old and nice isight camera, which works perfectly well with my powerbook G4 even now, but not with my new mac mini.
I am sure I have the correct cable (it allowed migration of my entire admin account from my powerbook to my new mac mini), but it still does not work between isight and new mac mini.
Having said this, I certainly remember plugging my isight to my new mac mini using this new adapter cable (800-400mb/sec - orange flat one) and it was working at least i saw my image.
I do not remember which application i used (skype or ichat) but i certainly remember my satisfaction with my new cable. Since then i did not need video conversations, but yesterday i needed one, and i realized that my isight is not recognized by my macmini any more!
I am saying this because it might not be only a power issue, it could be that multiple updates of i sight on my old powerbook passed in block to my new mac mini and this allowed isight working. In contrast, those update are not installable on Leopard operating systems.
I think, since i saw those two devices (isight and new mac mini) working together nicely, i deleted my entire migration account (having found a different way of keeping only absolutely necessary things on my new mac mini). I was thinking about this all day today. Can this be it? drivers issue? the non-installable on Leopard updates that otherwise can be migrated en-block from the old system?
I am sorry to confuse you all, if I did, but what do you think about it please?

  • Connect hp photosmart plus b209 printer to verizon fios wireless router

Having trouble connecting HP Photosmart Plus B209 printer to verizon fios wireless router in order to access printer via home wireless network.  The WPS (push button) connection option is not available on the current software version of router (VERIZON M1424WR rev.1  (Mfg. ACTIONTEC)).  So, need to know how to connect via the PIN option.
Normally, to connect a wireless device (like this HP printer) to the network, the device would input the router's security pin (e.g. WEP key).  But I can't figure out how to input the router's WEP key via the printers face screen.  And, after talking to Verizon, there is no provision to enter the printer's pin within the router's control setup online.
    Any suggestions?  Thanks.

  • Setting up security and such for wireless router wrt54g without admin rights (work computer)

We are moving, I am in a new location with a new company and my only computer is this one from work. Trying to get my home network setup, I'm locked out of admin rights on this thing and am trying to set up the above router. I thought I had a modem problem at first, but finally I am online wired for now to the cable modem. I would like to get this router up and running, but I can't use the easy setup disk, and I just tried using the easy setup download and it is locked out as well. How can I get my router setup with security, with no admin rights on the pc?
This will be my first wireless router, so I am very green on the specifics and terminology. Any help is most appreciated.
    Many thanks,

    Thank you toomanydonuts!
I will do this when I get back to the townhouse this evening.
Just so that I am prepared for tonight - I want to confirm and ask a few questions on the "options" and note a couple things I noticed that may help with answers...
Internet connection type - should be easy, I assume there is a "cable modem" option.
SSID - I do not know what this means or what to choose
wireless encryption method (WEP, WPA, WPA2) - Which is best, or is there one I must pick due to computer used and such, I also want to get my Nintendo Wii accessing correctly, I saw these options on that setup, though it didn't work per my first message on the board. I assume whatever encryption method used needs to be chosen for the Wii?
wireless encryption password - I think I can handle this one
    A couple of notes -
this laptop has this always on radar looking for wireless connections - how can I name my router so I know it's mine, other than the fact that it is the strongest signal. Maybe that's a network setting?
Thanks again, glad I came here.
Edit: I suppose I should add, just to ensure - in order to do this process through the url provided above, I need to be ethernet wired through the router to the modem? in order to access last night, I was straight into the modem, didn't seem to work wired through the router.

  • Xserve early 2009 and Service Diagnostics

I've got an Xserve early 2009 (Xserve3,1) that has its fans constantly blowing at maximum speed.
I'd like to run ASD of AXD to locate the problem. Using Disk Utility I made boot disks (CD-ROM, USB, ...) containing ASD 3X106 and AXD 3X104. But the Xserve doesn't recognize neither of them as boot disks. It's impossible to boot from these disks.
Does anyone have the proper procedure to run ASD or AXD on an Xserve?
    David

Make sure you are using 3X106 http://support.apple.com/kb/DL948 first.
I made this into a bootable image on my external hard drive. So all i have to do is plug the usb drive to the front of the xserve and boot to it.
Before you do any of this though I would try to reset the SMC. You can do that by shutting down the xserve and unpluging both power plugs for 1 min.
See if that makes a change first, If not go into server monitor and check your temps, maybe one of the sensors is bad and reporting that the machine is hot when its not.

  • IMAC Intel Early 2009 and iphoto

Hope you can help me.  I have an early 2009 iMac desktop with these specs
    20 inch
    OSX 10.9.4
2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    8GB 1067 MHz DDR3 (I believe I upgraded this to 8 gb)
I have the iphoto program that came with the mac, version 8.1.2
I would like to update to a newer version of iPhoto so that perhaps the photo stream would go to the iMac.  Also need to spend some time organizing thousands of photo files so I'd like to be in the latest version.
Problem is that the latest (free?) iphoto has bad reviews.  Am I better off not updating at this point?  I thought you have to pay for iPhoto?  Is the free iPhoto just an app for iPad?  I don't see full version.  Should I update to a later operating system?
I hesitate to update because older machines don't always work well with new releases.  I appreciate any feedback / pros/ cons you can share.  Thanks.

Problem is that the latest (free?) iphoto has bad reviews.
The latest iPhoto, 9.6, works fine.  Listening to the few bad reviews (out of litterally millions of users) is like judging the health of a city by what you see in one of its hospital's emergency rooms. Remember those having problems are more likely to post than those who are rolling along without a problem.
Your model iMac, Mac9,1, can run Yosemite which is a free upgrade. You'll have no memory problems with what you have. However, since you are currently running iPhoto 8.1.2, iPhoto 9.6 will require a purchase from the App Store.
If you don't want to upgrade to Yosemite and want to upgrade to iPhoto 9 you'll need to purchase a copy of the iLife 11 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com or eBay.com.  They Yosemite route will be less costly.
What every you do prepare your Mac for any upgrade and always have a backup before embarking on such an upgrade.
By the way, as part of preparing or even in you continue with Mavericks I would download and apply the OS X Mavericks 10.9.5 Update (Combo)  updater.  Be sure to repair disk permissions before upgrading the system and after.

  • Airport and Verizon Westell 7500

I run Windows Vista and have a verizon westell 7500. I can begin initial setup with airport express. During the setup I choose connect to current wireless network. Once I do this, I loose wireless connection and then have to delete connection with laptop and create a new one. Any thoughts?
    A-

I'm trying the setup now, It says "are you sure you want to switch wireless networks? setting up this airport wireless device requires switching wireless networks, switching wireless networks may interrupt your connection to the internet"
When I did this yesterday, it seems the airport express changed my settings computer internet connection

  • How do I pair my new Mac mini (mid 2011) and white Apple Wireless Keyboard (2003)?

I just bought a new Mac mini (mid 2011) and can not set it up via my Apple Wireless Keyboard (2003). I'm disheartened but not surprised that my Bluetooth 4.0 Mac isn't backwards-compatible with my Bluetooth 1.0 keyboard. But I can't find any documentation confirming the fact that my non-paired, but tested & perfectly functioning keyboard will not work with current Macs.
I was however, able to locate a tech support doc (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4112) that mentions my Apple Wireless Keyboard (2003) is not compatible with iOS devices. (Which is not critical because iOS provides a non-physical keyboard. Aside, it would be lovely were Apple to add a non-physical keyboard to Mac OS X, if only so new desktop owners can continue to set up their Macs in a pinch.)

I just bought a new mini mac (lion 2011) with a wireless keyboard.  I could not get the mac to recognise the keyboard.  Spent several hours back with the Genius team who replaced keyboard and mac but did not get anywhere.  They gave me a wired keyboard, was able to configure the mac and then it recognised the wireless keyboard.
Seems this is a problem with the new mac/OS

alphasonic, Welcome to the discussion area!
Is your "wireless router" an AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) or another AirPort Express (AX)? If not, you probably will not be able to do this.
The Ethernet port on the AX is active ONLY when the AX uses WDS to wirelessly connect to a network. Unfortunately most (nearly all) are NOT compatible with Apple's WDS and therefore this is not possible.
