Minimum Database Priviledes needed for Database Connection
What are the minimum DB Privileges I will need to do the following in JDev:
1 - Brows tables and packages via the Application Resources - Connections - Database view?
2 - Generate Business Components from Tables? (Query for Tables returns no values, or errors.)
I'm using JDev 11.1.1.1.0. connecting to an Oracle 10g database.
I can connect successfully but can't get table/view lists in the above scenarios.
I can query tables directly (select * from.....) via the SQL_Worksheet form and I receive context help (e.g. on table names).
Other connections to a local XE database works fine (CONNECT and RESOURCE privileges).

What do those error messages suggest to you?
Maybe your disk full.
Maybe the Windows Event Log (how did I come up with that name?) needs to be flushed/truncated.
I leave the details as an exercise for the student.

Minimum DB2 resources needed for a WL ConnectionPool to DB2 on UNIX?
I posted this same message to the DB2 group as well....
I want to create a ConnectionPool to a DB2 database using the Weblogic
App Server v6.1 running on UNIX/Solaris 8. The DB2 database that I'd
like to connect to resides on a separate server(on Windows 2K Server)
elsewhere on our network.
What is the bare minimum required to install on the Unix machine to
support this client connection?
To configure the LIGHTEST posible setup on the UNIX machine, do I:
Install the "DB2 Run-Time Client"?
OR
Install the "DB2 Connect for Unix"?
OR
Neither?
After one of these is installed, do I: (again, what is the minimum

Do I need to create an instance? (with associated users & groups)

Do I need to configure an Administration Server?
OR

OR
Neither?
I know I need to include the db2driver.zip and the db2home/lib in WL's

I have found the following settings on the web to configure the

user, pwd, server(?)If you use the DB2 driver from Data Direct, it is a type 4 driver. You only need 3 jar files

Using IBM's drivers, you install the DB2 Runtime Clients V8.1 (multiple languages).
Then you can follow the documentation from WLS 8.1 (even if running 6.1, except
ignore the sentence about using the JDBC Connection Pool Assistant, which is new
in 8.1b - you will need to type everything in yourself).
The documentation has a sample excerpt from the config.xml.
See http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs81/jdbc/thirdparty.html#1096721.
The documentation also mentions using the Client Configuration Assistant.
Using the DB2 command line processor, you need to enter something like
catalog tcpip node <nodename> remote <servername> server <port_number>
catalog database <databasename> as <aliasname> at node <nodename>

Advice needed for VPN connections
OK to first describe what I'm looking at .We have a bookmobile that goes to 13 different locations within our county. At each stop we are using the service provider's DSL modem to connect to their network, we have two different providers and staff changes the modem at each stop, and a Cisco831 router to make a VPN connection to our PIX. We are using the router to make the VPN connection so that we can have two staff computers use internal network resources i.e. Library database, network drives, e-mail. We tried using Cisco VPN client on the local machine but when we have two clients going on two machines at the same time neither would work. So we let the router make that connection.
We are going to have two bookmobiles operating and I need to purchase another router to make the connection and I am wondering which router would be a better solution for us.
So for me the question is
1) should I keep things as they are and buy a 871 and have staff change modems as needed
2) Should I get an 877, 878 router and make configuration changes daily as needed. Staff have not been able to do this in past. I've enough to do without this!
3) Up for any suggestions Maybe SDM with a pretty GUI for staff to use. It seems Cisco's CLI was too much for them.
Thanks to all for any help
Systems ANo Nat-traversal is enabled.
When we tried multiple VPN connections it was through a DSL modem/router. This is why we went to a Cisco831 router and having it make the secure connection to our PIX.

Minimum pulse width needed for gating the counter
Hi,
I have TTL pulses of 20 nanosecond width coming out from the two detectors at random times. I want to count the number of coincidence pulses.I am trying this with NI PCI 6259 M series card, by giving one signal to the gate of the counter and other as a source of the counter (Single Point (On-Demand) Edge Counting with Pause Trigger). When both source and gate are high then it should give the coincidence count. Can anyone suggest
1) Whether this is possible to gate the counter with 20 nanosecond width pulse?
2) If above thing is possible is this the right way for looking coincidence counts?
Any help regarding this is highly appreciated.

Help needed for WiFi connection problem
Hello
My wife's iPad2 with current iOS 8.3 sometimes will not connect to Wi-Fi - any ideas on how to correct the problem?
It's inconsistent!
Thanks for any thoughts about this.
DavidIf you want to do this in sql you've to use dynamic sql to select only columns having the data.
And you can always use end user tools like SSRS to display only columns having values by using expression for visibility property.
Please Mark This As Answer if it helps to solve the issue Visakh ---------------------------- http://visakhm.blogspot.com/ https://www.facebook.com/VmBlogs

Can you please help me on how can I achieve this using SSRS.
Thanks.
Hi Mutali,
Personally, I don't recommend using SSRS.
If you want to design a SSRS report, you should retireve all columns and specify column visibility for each column with following expression.
=IIF(Fields!SomeFieldValue.Value > 0, True, False) (Note:Supposing the data type of the field is INT).
You can refer to the solution as

What data package needed for enterprise connectivity?e
My wife and I both have iPhones. I have the original model and she has a 3G. We both currently have the $30 data package from AT&T. I get my MS Exchange email pushed to my phone from my company. They have set it up with remote wipe and all the other stuff. My wife is now trying to get her company to set up her iPhone to do MS Exchange stuff. They are telling her that the $30 data package is not good enough and that she now needs the $45 "enterprise data package" that AT&T offers. Is this true? What is the difference between the $30 personal data package and the $45 enterprise data package?
The "difference" is who pays. If it's a corporate account, paid directly by the company to AT&T, it's the $45/month 'Enterprise' plan. If it's a personal account, even if used with an Exchange account on the company's server, it's the $30 'personal' plan.
So, you ask, "What's the added 'feature' of the Enterprise data plan?" Simple - profit for AT&T. That's it. -
Hi all I am working with a web application and I am getting the following error:
Error in allocating a connection. Cause: In-use connections equal max-pool-size and expired max-wait-time. Cannot allocate more connections
I understand that that means that there is no connections available and that those that were available aren't being returned to the pool. Should the be anything other than closing connections and closing statement/preparedStatements that I should be doing ? Does one have to invalidate a datasource after being done with it, or is that something that will be taken care of ? It seems like it happens mainly when I redeploy the application. I have an extremely limited connection pool, so it may also be an issue of connections not being collected fast enough. Any suggestions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. In future JDBC related questions should be posted
into the JDBC forum.Sorry about that I keep forgetting there are specialized forums as I usually only frequent the 2 main ones
If you are closing all your resources correctly
(ResultSets, Statements (and subclasses) and
Connections) then you are doing it correctly.Ok thanks.
If you simply have a need for more connections than
you have in your pool then you'll have to address
that. -
Which files are needed for connection to database in 11gR2?

Some of the config parms available to it apply only to the server side, some apply only to the client side, some apply to both.
tnsnames.ora is used by client processes to resolve a connect alias to a specicific host, port, and service. It is used ONLY by the client side of tns. You see it on host machines because those machines can also run client processes.
host file. Oracle doesn't know what this file is. Oracle doesn't give a flying fig about this file. It is used by the standard network software in the OS to resolve a name to an IP address. The only reason you even see it discussed in the Oracle world is because Oracle TNS sits on top of the standard OSI network stack, and uses it. Thus, if your tnsnames file has an entry like:
houston =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = vmlnx01)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVICE_NAME = houston)
#==========tns will never know or care where vmlnx01 is. The request will be packaged and sent to the standard network stack with a request to "route this package to vmlnx01, wherever that is.". The OS network stack will then resolve 'vmlnx01' to an ip address, by one of several possible methods. ONE of those methods is to look it up in the local hosts file. -
SQL Server Database Connectivity with Visual Studio 2012 - Help Needed
Hello,
I am having Visual Studio 2012 and SQL Developer 4.0 installed on my system with Windows 8 - 64bit
I want to shift a VS project with an SQL database connectivity to another new Laptop (above mentioned) ...
I have the project opened in VS without bieng connected to the database..
I have a backup file of the database (which needs to be restored to a new created database on SQL Developer)
The problem:
I am unable to create a server connection in SQL Developer which will allow me to create a new database followed by the recovery from backup file.
I am getting the following error message when I try to create a connection:
Status: Faliure - IO error: The network adapter could not establish a connection
Please help me in setting up a server connection and adding a new sql databaseThe error message seemed unfamiliar to me and since I had never heard of SQL Developer before, I went to Google. Google might be pulling my legs, but it appears that SQL Developer is related to Oracle. This forum is devoted to SQL Server, so you are in the
wrong place.
Try finding a forum for SQL Developer.

And after my database connection is up, how do i test to check if my database connection is up or not?
How do i extract the information from the database and put them onto the textfields/dropdownlists on my form?

Sorry, I may not know how to describe this in the correct technical manner, but I'll explain in as simple terms as I can.
I open up Crystal Reports 2013 click new document
and it begins to ask for Database Expert.
I select Universes and log in to my Business Objects Enterprise Explorer. I then select the Universe that I want to write my report with,
then i save the rpt on my local machine.
then I log into my Business Objects 4.1 CMC or BI and upload this rpt file so that I can begin to schedule the report for example...
but the problem i have is whenever I try to run the report,
it asks for a prompt for my database connection...
it displays the Universe name, but User Name Password, I am not sure what to write,
do I write My login for Business Objects? do I write the user name password of the database that Universe uses?
in CMC I see a database configuration, I tried many combinations and still have been receiving the following error message
The viewer could not process an event. The database logon information for this report is either incomplete or incorrect. []
---- Error code:0 [CRWEB00000119]
From all I read the point of using the Universe in Crystal reports is to be automatic in such a way that it doesnt need the database conneciton, because its technically using the Universe as the database connection....
so what am I doing wrong here? maybe its my database configuration, I keep reading that it doesnt need anything... that you upload the Crystal Reports and it would just work...
any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated..
thanks
-DanielHi Daniel,
What is the reporting DB used?
The trick with your configuration is the following:
- Universe Designer: 32bits application that may work fine on your desktop
- Crystal 2013: 32bits application as well
- When you export to the repository, Web Intelligence (64bits) has to process the Universe to extract the query.
Your server should have the drivers required for Crystal + Universe: 32bit and 64bit versions.

BEST PRACTICES FOR CREATING DISCOVERER DATABASE CONNECTION -PUBLIC VS. PRIV
I have enabled SSO for Discoverer. So when you browse to http://host:port/discoverer/viewer you get prompted for your SSO
username/password. I have enabled users to create their own private
connections. I log in as portal and created a private connection. I then from
Oracle Portal create a portlet and add a discoverer worksheet using the private
connection that I created as the portal user. This works fine...users access
the portal they can see the worksheet. When they click the analyze link, the
users are prompted to enter a password for the private connection. The
following message is displayed:
The item you are requesting requires you to enter a password. This could occur because this is a private connection or
because the public connection password was invalid. Please enter the correct
password now to continue.
I originally created a public connection...and then follow the same steps from Oracle portal to create the portlet and display the
worksheet. Worksheet is displayed properly from Portal, when users click the
analyze link they are taken to Discoverer Viewer without having to enter a
password. The problem with this is that when a user browses to
http://host:port/discoverer/viewer they enter their SSO information and then
any user with an SSO account can see the public connection...very insecure!
When private connections are used, no connection information is displayed to
SSO users when logging into Discoverer Viewer.
For the very first step, when editing the Worksheet portlet from Portal, I enter the following for Database
Connections:
Publisher: I choose either the private or public connection that I created
Users Logged In: Display same data to all users using connection (Publisher's Connection)
Users Not Logged In: Do no display data
My question is what are the best practices for creating Discoverer Database
Connections.
Is there a way to create a public connection, but not display it in at http://host:port/discoverer/viewer?
Can I restrict access to http://host:port/discoverer/viewer to specific SSO users?
So overall, I want roughly 40 users to have access to my Portal Page Group. I then want to
display portlets with Discoverer worksheets. Certain worksheets I want to have
the ability to display the analyze link. When the SSO user clicks on this they
will be taken to Discoverer Viewer and prompted for no logon information. All
SSO users will see the same data...there is no need to restrict access based on
SSO username...1 database user will be set up in either the public or private
connection. You can make it happen by creating a private connection for 40 users by capi script and when creating portlet select 2nd option in Users Logged in section. In this the portlet uses there own private connection every time user logs in.
So that it won't ask for password.
Another thing is there is an option of entering password or not in ASC in discoverer section, if your version 10.1.2.2. Let me know if you need more information

Best practice for making database connection to Forms 10 apps?
Hi
To upgrade our Forms applications we are moving from version 3 to 10.
Our old system runs Forms applications and the connection to the database is based on the individual user. This means that any tables or views used require that the user has specific access granted to them. We have a bespoke system to manage this which generates scripts (GRANT statements) based on lists of tables and users and their appropriate access.
I have concerns that managing the table access for thousands of individual users in the Forms 10 environment is going to be technically difficult, especially with RADs to consider. Is it feasible to generate and frequently refresh RAD scripts to maintain the current list of users and their permissions?
I am trying to decide if it is better to:
A) Connect with the same database user (such as "APP_USER") which has access to everything
or
B) Connect with individual usernames/passwords
Currently, the individual user database passwords are generated weekly and users have means to obtain them (once signed in) rather than setting and remembering them. Some views refer to the Oracle system parameter "USER" to decide what data is returned so this functionality would need to be preserved.
Any help is greatly appreciated, especially if you can tell me if option A or B is how you connect at your site. Thanks for the advice so far.
It would appear that connecting with individual usernames is not a fundamental error, which I was concerned about.
Will it still be necessary to create and refresh RAD scripts, or is this only an issue when using OID? We have OID here already because we have a website using Oracle Portal. The sign-on process for this connects to Active Directory for authentication.
I do not like the idea of having to schedule a refresh of RAD scripts, perhaps 3 times a day, just to keep it current. I do not think the RADs are expected to change as frequently as this, but perhaps other forum members have experience of this? -
Run Labview as different windows user (for database connectivity)
I have to connect to a corporate remote MSSQL-Database on the network, using the database connectivity toolkit for LabVIEW.
The db-authentification is realized checking the windows user (ads) who acceses the datebase (not a database user / password which is standard in the database vis)
Therefore I have to run LabVIEW as the defined windows user, different than the logged in user on the pc.
Is that possible to realize with LabVIEW?
Other Windows-tools allow to define the windows user/password which "run" an application - how can I do that with LabVIEW?Hi Zav. There is a windows command 'runas' which _may_ let you do what you want; I haven't
tried what you need to do, but is has worked for other tasks for us. Try 'runas /?' for the switches.
You will have to build your LV program into an executable, then use runas to launch it. Is there
a reason you can't just login to Windows as the required user?
If you can get your db admin to allow dbuser/password authentication that would be a much better
way to go.

Report in production prompts for database connection info
Hi,
I'm using SAP Crystal Reports version for VS 2010 SP1. I'm trying to implement the most basic need--to create reports in a development environment and move them to production by just copying the .rpt files. I want to rely on the database connection string from web.config, but don't see how that is done. I've tried using ADO.NET DataSets from Project Data and can get the report to run while developing, but when I move to another server I'm always prompted with the "The report you requested requires further information" dialog.
I tried this solution, which keeps the db server name in a web.config variable:
ReportDocument boReportDocument = new ReportDocument();
boReportDocument.Load(Server.MapPath(rmCR.SelectedItem.Value.ToString()));
ConnectionInfo boConnectionInfo = new ConnectionInfo();
boConnectionInfo.ServerName = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["dbServerName"];
boConnectionInfo.DatabaseName = "dbCMRP_Employees";
boConnectionInfo.IntegratedSecurity = true;
ModifyConnectionInfo(boReportDocument.Database, boConnectionInfo);
// Modify the ConnectionInfo for all tables in all subreports
foreach (ReportDocument boSubreport in boReportDocument.Subreports)
ModifyConnectionInfo(boSubreport.Database, boConnectionInfo);
Session.Add("Report", boReportDocument);
Response.Redirect("CrystalReportsViewer.aspx");
and this works fine in development, but when moved to a different server I get the "The report you requested requires further information" dialog. I've made sure that the db has the correct security settings, but can't find anything missing.
I'm sure I'm missing something basic, but can't seem to find any solution after searching for days. Any solution that allows me to create the report in VS 2010 and copy to a production server will be appreciated.
Thanks,
DanThanks for your replies.
