Missing attachments

Anyone heard of this problem - I received an email that had two two gifs and a word document. The word document was invisible in the body of the email, but when I hit the arrowhead next to the paperclip, it is in the list and I can save it. Here is one explanation I have had.
Mac Mail sees two lists of attachments, the "related" and the
real attachment(s) (here the Word doc) and only processes the first list by
default. It is likely that the recipient hasn't encountered the problem, or not often, before because most emails are sent with either attachments or embedded images, but not both.

Whilst they did not show in the email, they were under the attachment arrow. Not sure why they did not show.

  • Missing Attachments (that aren't really missing)

    I have set up my Gmail account (using IMAP) on Mail (1.3.11). However, I noticed a few days ago that every time someone sends me an email with one or more attachments, Mail mysteriously drops one of the attachments. There doesn't seem to be any relationship between the kind of attachment (doc, picture, pdf, etc). It just (randomly?) fails to identify one of the attachments. It's quite strange. I know that the attachments are there because if I use the Gmail web-interface, all the attachments are there, no problem. But if I look at my Gmail account using Mail, one of the attachments is always missing. If the email has only one attachment, Mail shows zero. If the email has two attachments, Mail shows one. If the email has three attachments, Mail shows two. Etc.
    Any ideas about what is going on here?
    Thanks in advance.

    I have similar problems that seem to have just surfaced. My mail server is a Windows Exchange server and I use IMAP with three clients: Mac PowerBook G4 (PB), Blackberry (BB), and MS Office Web Access (OWA).
    On both the OWA and BB, I've seen zero issues. Using Mail (version 2.1.3 (753.1/753)), I get seemingly random "missing" attachments. By "missing" I mean:
    1) The attachment icon is not present (no paperclip)
    2) The attachment is not in the message body, either embedded or as a file icon
    3) If I "View" -> "Message" -> "Raw Source" I see lots of binary data indicating the attachment really is there, but is not being rendered properly, apparently.
    This has happened with PDF files (twice) and a Word document (once) in the last three days. The message with the Word Doc also included a second attachment (an Excel file) that rendered fine and was displayed. That is, that message at first appeared to have just a single attachment. However...
    Strangely, the attachment(s) will re-appear at a later time (many minutes or hours later), the paper clip icon will then say "1 item" or "2 item" and things look great.
    It's very bizarre and to me, very recent behavior.

    I have gmail account.
    Can you help me, please ?
    thank you
    petr

    Is this happening with all emails with pdfs and jpeg attachments?  I'm wondering if this is because of the size of the attachments.

  • Missing attachments in Mail since Moutnain Lion upgrade

    Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, all attachments to Mac Mail are missing.  Any help greatly appreciated.

    Hi, my colleague and I are on go daddy IMAP accounts using Mail.
    We have the problem whereby when we open an email (with attachment) on our iPhones first, then the attachment has disappeared when we view the same message in Mail on our macs.
    I hav contacted go daddy and they say it's a Mac/Mail issue.
    Any ideas on how we can solve this?

  • Sent email missing attachments

    Since I upgraded to OS 10.4.11 I have been having a problem with my emails to others missing the attachments. They swear my attachment is not there although it is marked 'sent' on my side and I get no error or bounce back from any servers. When I go back to make sure I attached the item it is there in my mail. These are small image attachments that should not hit size limits (630k-5mb). This is embarrassing! It seems to be intermittent (mailing to the same person, sometimes they get it sometimes they don't) and only happens when I send to people on PCs from my MAC. Any advice? Is it my problem or their problem?

    the next time that this happens, can you get one of these recipients to save the inbound mail message as "raw message source" including full headers and send it to you? then see whether there are some lines of text just beneath the headers that look similar to this:
    --Apple-Mail-17--507881185
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
    Content-Type: text/plain;
    charset=US-ASCII;
    format=flowed
    This is a test
    --Apple-Mail-17--507881185
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
    Content-Type: image/tiff;
    name=galaxy.tiff;
    x-unix-mode=0644;
    x-mac-hide-extension=yes
    Content-Disposition: inline;
    filename=galaxy.tiff
    {start bunches of random characters that are the ascii-encoded file attachment}
    also, are there any lines in the actual header that indicate that either the sending or the receiving server stripped off the attachment?

  • Missing attachments in Mail client, but they are there on MobileMe...

    Greetings,
    For some time now (for maybe about a month before release of 10.6), and with no changes to preferences of Mail.app, my attachments are not accessible. This concerns my MobileMe account being accessed through the Mail.app client program. I have used this program to access this same account with no trouble since 2006.
    Within Mail.app, you can see the paper clip and accurate number of attachments. However, if you open the email, or look in the preview, you can not see or access the actual attachments. If I log onto MobileMe I can see the attachments, open them, download them etc. now for the tricky part...
    This only happens when I forward email from my email account on the Army's 'conus.army.mil' exchange server. If Johnny Lunchmeat send me an email with attachments from yahoo or gmail, they will be seen and download to the Mail.app client just fine. Again, I can see, access, download the attachments from the web interface of Mobile me, but on Mail.app, I can only see there are attachments and have no way to access them through the client.
    Blessings,
    Dan

    HI Dan,
    First, repair disk permissions.
    Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
    If that does't help, open Mac Mail. From the Mac Mail Menu Bar, click Mailbox/Rebuild. This can take several minutes depending on how many unread e-mails you have.

  • Missing Attachments From ONE Sender

    We have one user who can't seem to get PDF or Excel attachments from one sender. I sent him test emails with pdf and excel attachments and he got them just fine. We are running BES 4.1.7.17.  I'm drawing blanks on this one. Oh, and the email in his outlook has the attachments! So, we know that they aren't getting stripped on the sender's side. Please help. He's using a Curve 8530 from Verizon.

    Hello,
    Have you tried sending new Service Books to the user and testing again? Otherwise i would recommend wiping the BlackBerry smartphone and then re activating on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server again. To do this we would need to back up the BlackBerry smartphone http://bit.ly/aSediX
    Once backed up please follow the link below to perform a security wipe of your BlackBerry smartphone.
    Link: http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB14058
    Reactivate and test.
    Thank you

  • Missing Attachments in Mac Mail

    Hi, I have a client who use Exchange 2007 as there mail server. The mac clients either use Mail or entourage to connect to the mail server.
    The problem i am having, is usaing the Mail client, attachments will not show up on random emails. If i use OWA, an Iphone, Entourgae the attachment appears OK. The Mac has all the lastest software updates.
    Has anyone else had this problem?

    The problem of "invisible" attachments sounds all too familiar. I am using Apple's "Mail" program ver. 3.4.
    Recently, attachments have not always been showing up when the email's file size and the Paperclip icon indicates an attachment should be present. I have found that when this happens, very often I can view the hidden attachment by either going to the File Menu and choosing "Quick Look Attachments", or by pressing the Command and Y keys simultaneously. On occasion, I have had this abnormality occur from the same sender's email account who has also sent other emails with attachments that have shown up.
    If this is a known Bug, hopefully the upcoming OS X 10.5.5 update will provide a fix.

  • Missing attachments for some users in Outlook 2010

    Hi,
    We have a single Exchange 2010 (sp3 rollups 2 and 4 installed) with clients on Outlook 2010.
    4 users received an email from outside the domain with 12 attachments (8 PDF, 4 excel and word). Email content type is multipart/mixed.
    One user can see all 12 attachments in outlook while the other 3 can only see the 8 PDF's. All users can see all attachments in OWA. Email size limits and attachment limits dont seem to be the cause.
    I've had a look in the forums and I cant see anything related to our exact issue (affecting some but not all users, content type seems ok).
    Looks to me like I should start with a pipeline trace, but does anyone have any other suggestions?
    Cheers,
    Scott

    Hi,
    To understand more about the issue, I’d like to ask the following questions:
    Does the problematic users can view other Excel and Word attachments? Try to send another email with single excel and word attachment to have a test.
    Are the problematic attachment visible if you forward the email to other users through Outlook?
    Additionally, pipeline tracing log is recommended to troubleshoot the issue and find the root cause.
    If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.
    Thanks,

  • Missing Attachments and recipients on received email

    I received an email on which I can't see the email, nor the recipients.
    I've checked the RAW Source and all the headers are missings, and some of the multiparts. It seems the mail has been truncated (the first part is missing, including headers and two attachs.
    The problem, is that when I see the same email with my iphone, all is ok. recipients and email.
    My mail accoun is an imap account from my company. (not gmail).
    Any ideas?
    It seem like a HUGE issue, can't believe they let this kind on issue on Apple.

    First of all, im happy i was able to help in someway. u should tick this issue resolved since u dont have any more problems
    there are many factors as to why this could have happened. Maybe there was an interruption with your internet so the mail was not downloaded properly and became corrupted,Mail app issue,etc etc.
    We can certainly look at the logs to identify which caused it but honestly what's important now is u have everything up and running again

  • E-mail and missing attachments

    have a weird one for you.
    A friend from a neighboring state (who used to be a Mac user) owns an el Cheapo PC. He used to use AOL for his ISP, but he switched to Adelphia.
    I've been sending him e-mails lately, and he says the ones I send to him with JPEG image attachments come through with the images okay. However, ones with PDF attachments are another matter. He says that messages I send to him with PDF attachments arrive with no attachments. He also says that when he checks an AIM account he has the same problem. He even forwarded the messages back to me and there are no attachments with them. Other people I send these messages to, including my mother and myself, have no problems.
    I'm scratching my head on this one.

    I have the same problem. Things worked fine for a while. I was able to see the body of the email plus the attachment. Even was able to open PDFs in iBooks. Now I only see the "Preview". I clock the particular email and I get a blank page with a header... plus no ability to see the attachment. This needs to be addressed in an update.
    How did you reset your phone? Did you lose any content in the process?
    Thanks

  • HT2614 Missing attachments - winmail.dat instead

    I have checked the RTF setting and it does not apply in this case. (I am sending myself attachment from work.)  I am trying to receive .doc and .pdf.  This has only been going on for a few weeks.  My attachments are removed and in their place is a winmail.dat attachment.  What changed?  Help!

    Winmail.dat files are attachments sent by Microsoft mail applications (Outlook, Outlook Express or Exchange) on a proprietary format called TNEF (transport neutral encapsulation format). Being a non-standard attachment format, users from other e-mail clients (like Thunderbird or Foxmail) cannot natively read them.
    But Enolsoft Winmail Viewer can help Mac users open it.

  • TS3276 Missing attachments over imap

    Hi,
    I'm using IMAP to conect to my exchange server 2003 email (awaiting an upgrade to 2010). When recieving email with attachments, the attachment gets renamed to Mail Attchment and opens as a scrambled text file. This happens to all kinds off attachments.
    I'm on OS X Lion and get this issue with mac mail and Outlook 2011.
    Thanks in advance,

  • Missing contents, missing attachments...

    Hi,
    with mail I got a couple of real problems. I have an imap account, I got to day an email that had 4 attachments. When I phoned later today with the sender, she told me about the 4 attachments. Checking my imap folder by webmail showed me 4 attachments.
    Next problem: I get every night a mail from my phone box. It should show me the connections of the last day. But when I get it, nothing is displayed. Not even a header. Just empty space!!!
    And one more: Got last week a mail from a friend. When I looked at it Mail showed me an attachment. But this was not from him. As I figured out later it was a real confidential document from a client. What would happened I've I forwarded this as usual to all other friends from the soccer team.
    From day to day I get the impression that mail isn't a application for a pro. Too much bugs. Should I call for each bug Apple Care?!
    I hope the is a bugfix on the way!

    looks like this is a monologue…
    ok today I took my old G4 with 10.4.11 and mail 2.1.2 and set up an account for imap. And the same message which has under 10.5.1 one attachment has there 4 attachments!!! Same account by my provider!
    The message which is displayed in mail 3.1 totally empty has under 2.1.2 at least an header and the attachment. But the HTML content still isn't displayed.
    Then I set up for this a account pop-access and the same mail is displayed and with an attachment.
    That shows me it was an fault to send money on 10.5.1 since 10.4.11 with the old mail did the job not perfect but better.
    Will there come an update? Or should I downgrade on my macbook again to get the old working mail?

  • How can I change/add keywords into the TB routine, when asking for missing attachments? e.g. German vs. English

    Heja
    I'm using the German TB version (well you can blame me but its now as it is :O)
    Nice thing is that TB asks when keywords appear to make me not to forget the attachment. But can I add here kewords? I use the German version but half of my day I write english mails. I'd like TB to search not only for the German expression but also the english term(s) for attachment etc.
    Is this possible?
    Thanks!
    cheers
    Marten

    You could try adding an English word like 'Attach'
    Tools > Options > Composition > General tab
    or
    Menu icon > Options > Options > Composition > General tab
    click on 'keywords' button.
    You can also get to same Options window from a new Write window.
    Type eg: 'attach' or what ever it is in german to get Write to think an attchment needs to be added.
    at the bottom on the left side, it will say 'Found an attachment keyword' - probably in german.
    click on those words to open the same Options Keywords window
    Then you can add words in English eg: 'attach', 'attachment', 'attaching'
