Missing Flash Button
I am at a loss as to why, when I added a new button to our
index page, it
does not appear when uploaded. If I push F12 and load it from
the file all
is well.
I have checked that I have same setting on the button.
Please can anyone tell me how to make it appear.
Please do not give me a lecture about the fact that I should
not be using
flash buttons etc. I still want to use them on our site for
the time being.
I use Dreamweaver 8
Thanks,
Noel

would the missing component be? and 2. Why didn't the reinstall

Flash buttons work in FireFox but not IE
Please can someone please take a look and see if they can
figure it out cos i can't!

The increase and decrease flash buttons at the top of the
page works ok in FireFox but not in Internet Explorer.
Can anyone see what i have missed that stops it working in
IE?
thanks in advance for your help.
JasonHello again,
Yep, sounds like you've got the general idea.

I'm going to start from scratch and give it another go...would you reccomend converting every button to a symbol? Then give the symbols a mouseover, click, and mouseout?
I'd take all the elements that make up the button, and convert that into a symbol. Then you can go to labels with your code without worrying about the main timeline. Put all your code on the elements themselves, and not on the symbol instance.
hries22 wrote:
Also - and this minor - but is there a way to get a button's mouseover area to recognize transparency? For instance - I'll use a .png with transparency for a button...let's say the T-shirt. I want the mouseover to activate only when the mouse is over the t-shirt, and not over the transparent area around the t-shirt...any thoughts?
By default, the hit area of a div in HTML is its bounding box. Right off the top of my head, I'm not sure there's a way to change it...maybe someone else can chip in?
EDIT: here's an old-school way...could be a lot of work: http://www.svennerberg.com/2008/09/imagemap-rollover/

When in design view and choose media--flash button or flash
text, i fill out the dialog box and save file but all I see when I
hit apply and OK is a gray box with handles and a f in it. Then in
browser check it does not show at all? My computer does have flash
reader as I can see other site's flach elements properly. I
followed the DW help and an online movie explanation.
I understand that Dreamweaver can generate it's own flash
elements such as flash text and buttons.
What am I missing?
To read the old tread where there was no resolution search
for jimkemble as author thanksPost the "code view" code that is generated and any other
code that you have written so we can get an idea of the problem.

Flash button will not update on DW 8 on Mac
I just moved to a mac. I have been on XP. Whenever my site
needed a new button, I would Duplicate an existing button, rename
it and then change its display and link.
Now, on the mac, I can duplicate and change the name.
However, when I change the display and link, it takes the OK or
Apply, but when I re-retrieve the changed button, there are no
changes. I must really be missing something obvious?
Thank you for any help! Why are you using Flash buttons? You know that some people
won't see them,
and search engines won't find them, right?

I am also new to Flash. I made a Flash button (in Flash 8u)
that I put on my Dreamweaver created web page. I can export it to
Dreamweaver, but I am definitely missing something. It is probably
quite simple, but I can't get the button to link to another file in
my folder. The best I can do is to have the button get a url, but
it does that automatically upon opening the web page that has the
Flash button on it. I want the Flash button to go to the web page
(or file folder would be better) only when the button is clicked
on. I have tried various versions of the action script to get it to
work, but obviously I am not doing something correctly. I do not
understand writing code very well. Any help is very much
appreciated. Thanks. This method is the preferred method: Give your button an
instance name of
myButton. Then, add the following in the actions panel to the
main timeline
on frame one:
myButton.onRelease=function(){
getURL("yourURL");

Importing Flash buttons into Flash
I've created a nice button as a movie clip in Flash 10 CS4
Actionscript 3 so that the button changes with mouse_over and it
all works fine, both with Test Movie and separately playing the swf
file. The problem is I want to use this button in a variety of
Flash applications. I thought all I would have to do was to export
the button as swf and then import it into the new Flash program as
a button symbol and add the ActionScript code for mouse_click etc.
I didn't expect to be able to edit the button in the new program,
but I thought it would run OK. What happens is that the button
appears, but all the movie clip behaviour is missing -- it's just a
static object that doesn't respond to mouse_over. I've tried
importing it as a button and as a movie clip -- neither works.
Given my primitive experience of ActionScript and Flash, the only
work around I can think of is to put all the ActionScript code for
the button in each application. This will be a big task, as various
layers and scripts are involved.
There must be something simple that I am missing, but I can't
seems to find this problem addressed anywhere. Most people seem to
want to use their Flash buttons in non-Flash applications like html
web pages. Help, please, from someone who can make Flash sing and
dance (or at least more than I can) ...You can copy and paste any item in the Library of one movie
to the Library of a second movie. If you do that, you can get the
button into your new movie. You will still need to bring the
actionscript over from one movie to the other. You can do this in a
similar copy and paste manner. -

pwned
Unlike the other people who have posted definitions that are
ridiculous, do not have substantial backing, or are simply
mis-informed, I
will give the complete definition of what "pwned" means.
1. The origins of "pwned" are debated but there are two
possible
sources:
a. A prominent quake player mis spelled "owned" and the new
word
"pwned" was adopted by people who thought it was "1337".
b. A warcraft map designer misspelled "owned" and thus
people started
using "pwned" instead.
The definitions are as follows:
In video games:
1. Completely annihilated or dominated.
2. Perfectly owned, meaning the other player did not do any
damage.

I just pwned your *** noob!

Flash Button/Extension Mgr
I just installed the adobe 1.6 extension manager for MX2004
DW. After that I downloaded a file for more flash buttons. They
appear in my flash button selection, but when I choose them and hit
apply, I get this message:
"Could not create flash button because a component of

buttons still work without this message appearing. I have
reinstalled DW, the extension mgr, and the flash button file, to no
avail. Any Help? Why use Flash buttons at all?

Problem with Flash Buttons Help me
Sir
i design some Flash buttons but it is save as .swf extension
if i save as jpg or gif then animation not working as well as
effects.
sir
how can i call the flash buttons in java plz guide me
JButton mybutton=new JButton(how can i pass swf extension button);kglad
what I did was place the code with the trace evt into the action script under the label on the timeline I have for album1. With AS3 I guess that's the new way of doing it.
I then saved the file and output it for preview in flash as well as html, and I got no response on pressing the button apart from the normal animation and sound I have associated with my buttons. I also looked in the output window and no information came up, which in response to Ned's help, means my buttons are not connecting.
Damn, I have tried everything and retraced my steps from scratch, but I am missing something.
Nonetheless I also opened up dreamweaver cs4, and made a test HTML like you mentioned yesterday, and I inserted my flash file(banner) onto the webpage. Went to preview it, through dreamweaver cs4, but everything else but my buttons work. I have graphics, sound and animation but no damn links work.
Thanks for your help

Flash buttons in dreamweaver 8
Hi,
i am having a problem with inserting flash button in
dreamweaver 8, when i insert the buttons it appears on the page as
a grey box with "F"(flash) and not displaying the proper text. The
user is a standard windows users and has not administrator
privilidges. but if an administrator loggs into the pc and does the
exact same process then the flash button work.
has anyone come across this problem ? does anyone know how to
resolve
cheers
davidYou'll need to go back into Flash and build the links into the buttons before you create the swf's. Look in the Flash help docs regarding the getURL function as far as the code you'll need for linking. If you have problems, post in the Flash AS1 and AS2 forum.
Beyond that, don't be surprised if some feedback arises here regarding using Flash buttons. -
Hey Everyone
So i have these Flash buttons on my website(which is done in

Does anyone have any suggestions or solutions to this

Do you have the Flash buttons on all web pages was my point.
In other words,
did you have the same Flash buttons on the Contact page?

Is the intro_buttons.swf in the web site root folder -- what

local drive the / could mean the root folder of the computer
if you are not

Flash buttons won't work in Dreamweaver
Hello,
I recently watched/read tutorials about how to add Flash buttons into Dreamweaver. I followed the instructions perfectly: insert>media>flash button, and played around with that options. After I clicked ok/apply, though, the only thing that popped uo was a little grey box with the "f" Flash logo inside. It could be resized, but thats it. When I tried previewing it in a browser, all I saw was a little box in the color i had set as the BG color. In the properties window, it says "undefined" next to file. I am using CS3on a macbook, and am a beginner with Dreamweaver. Anybody know why this is happening and how i can fix it?
-New userThat's correct. There's no difference. But Flash buttons should be avoided however you make them.
Use text-based CSS formatted buttons instead.
Easier to maintain and update and search engines love them.
Google CSS Buttons and you'll find plenty of tutorials. -
Dreamweaver Flash Buttons Paths
Hello all,
I am a novice site designer. My first challenge is to design a navigation bar once and used by all web pages. I built it using Flash buttons. The concept works fine in a flat file, but when I'm viewing a web page that sits in a different directory than the flash navigation buttons, the buttons point to a file in the current directory which doesn't exist. I want the buttons to still point to the flash files in the parent directory.
I'm using Dreamweaver CS2 to create my flash buttons. I'm using PHP include statements to include my flash navigation bar. When I create the php file in another directory, click on flash button, all heck breaks loose. I look at the URL and the link appends the PHP file that the flash button should be pointing to whatever directory my current web page is in.
It seems like, I should just create each button as a absolute path, http://rootdirectory.com/filename.php, but it still uses relative path when I'm looking at web page that sits in another directory and appends the navigation link to the current directory http://rootdirectory.com/currentdirectory/filename.php although it points to a link in the root or parent directory.
Do I not know how to create flash buttons using the absolute paths? If you want to use Flash for navigation, consider this -
1. Some people don't have Flash installed - what do they do?
2. Search engines don't parse Flash links - your site will
not be spidered
3. Screen assistive devices don't parse Flash links - what
will those users
do?
4. DW cannot maintain links within a Flash movie, so if you
move or rename
a linked file, your navigation will break - what will you do?
It's usually a very bad idea for these reasons...
Adding in frames makes it even worse - you are in the deep
stuff here. Why
are you using frames?
