Missing folder after installing myapplication with AppBuilder 8.5

In the project property for the installer, I created a data-folder for my application. This folder is for later use with the myapp. So during installation its empty.
After installation on the target PC, I miss the folder. Only the folder with the myapp has been created.
My system: LV8.5 full, AppBuilder on winXP SP2
Any idea?
Andreas

The installer builder does not support creating an empty folder. It's a feature that's been requested for a while, and we'd like to add it, but it has not been a high priority feature. The workaround is to install a dummy file (0 bytes) to the folder. Or you could configure the installer to run a batch file that creates an empty folder. The downside to using the batch file, however, is that the uninstaller won't know to remove the folder.

so i had lightroom on a trail period that had ended.  i had then gone to try out the creative cloud lightroom and it asked me to install.  in hindsight i should have just transferred my files to my external hard drive just in case... but i didn't.  so after installing the new updated lightroom, MOST of my photos have disappeared from their original folder.  like LOTS and LOTS of photos.  but it kept SOME of the photos.
can anyone help me?!  lots of memories lost possibly and i'm quite displeased and worried...

I went over this link, but still have a similar problem -- different O/S, different scenario.
I'm trying to install this on Fedora Core 4, installing from one of the big overall download bundles that also includes the Messaging server, Web server, etc.
I installed, but chose to configure components manually after install. Now, I'm left with a /opt/sun/ directory, but the App server has not been installed.
I can't find the installation script or executible to install this, nor can I find this in the documentation. Anyone have any clues on this?

• T540p BSOD after installing driver with ThinkVantage System Update

Hello,
today I got my brand new T540p. Its was delivered without OS (Lenovo Campus). I downloaded the ethernet drivers  and the TV System Update on a usb flash drive with my old thinkpad. After installing Windows 8 Pro, i installed the ethernet drivers to connect to the internet. Then i started the TV System Update and let it install all critical and optional drivers.
After the all drivers have been installed the machine wants to reboot, but now i am in a reboot loop. Everytime it hangs in the screen "Windows Update 100%" and then I see the blue screen of death (Driver Power state failure) and the machine reboots again.
Does anyone else have this problem or is there a fix from lenovo?
Thanks,
Mat

After fresh install of win 8 I only updated drivers from windows update. Works fine so far. Upgraded to win 8.1 still no problem. Use nvidia, wifi, intel graphics driver from windows update. Windows could not install chipset drivers. So I downloaded the intel chipset drivers from lonovo. Install crashes with bsod and ending up in reboot loop. I assume it's a problem with the intel drivers from lenovo. At moment I install win 8 again and I will try to install the drivers from intel website.

• Restoring Leopard after installing SL with Time Machine with only a SL Disk

I just bought Snow Leopard and I haven't installed it yet. I am currently running Leopard on my MacBook Pro. I have heard of issued with Adobe CS4 and I'm afraid of having such issues, so before I install SL, I want to make sure I can revert to Leopard in case I have problems with Adobe CS4 applications. I use Time Machine, and I know that to restore the entire system from Time Machine, I need a bootable OS X install disk.
My problem is the following: I do not have my Leopard install DVD at hand, it is in another country and I won't have access to it for a few months. So I was wondering whether I can restore my current system (after installing Snow Leopard) using Time Machine, by booting from the Snow Leopard install disk.
So basically: If I installed Snow Leopard, and wanted to go back to before I installed it, could I simply insert the Snow Leopard install disk, and restore Leopard, along with my apps and documents, from my Time Machine backup? Or do I need the Leopard disk to do that?
Thanks!

You shouldn't have anything but maybe minimal CS4 problems under Sno. But, anything can happen.

I have never done exactly what you say, but my opinion is that it will work.

I think it should work as said above. No guarantees though. It would be better is you bought a firewire external and cloned your existing system to the external to be safe--considering the difficulties that might arise since you don't have your Leopard disk.
Can you at least back your data up separately on your TM disk? Then, worst case is that you might have to do an erase and install of Sno if your first install doesn't work well and then figure out how to deal with lost apps if TM let's you down.

• Missing templates after installing 10.1.3 - no diagrams

Hi,
Ive happily used 10.1.2 for UML Class diagrams etc recently, have downloaded the full install for 10.1.3 (as very interested to try out the Sequence diagrams).
After installing 10.1.3 I notice there are very few Application templates available (only "No template" and "Java App") - so there is no Diagram option under the General category when creating New.
What setup do I have to perform to activate the Diagramming options ?
Is this covered in the installation Readme anywhere ?
Thanks. Darren.

Darren,
Glad that helped, if you have any comments or suggestions about the Sequence Diagrammer, please post any feedback you have and I will pass it on to the Developer.

• No Prompt/UI after installing LightDM with XFCE

I just finished an Arch install in a VirtualBox VM, and it worked fine. I set up X.Org, and it seems to work. After installing XFCE and enabling LightDM, it does not boot into a prompt or LightDM. I am running the VM on Ubuntu 13.10, and I am chrooted into the installlation from an Arch livecd. Does anyone know why this happens or how to fix it?

Did you install a LightDM greeter?

• I have a flashing folder on a white screen with a question mark in the folder after installing an ssd to my MacBook Pro .. Any suggestions??

Just hoping for some help from the title question. Thank you guys

You need to format the SSD and install a version of OS X on it before it will boot. There are a number of ways you can go about this.
Get an enclosure for your 'old' drive and boot from it with the SSD installed. OWC has an assortment of inexpensive enclosures. Boot from your 'old' drive and use Disk Utility to format the SSD as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" with a single GUID partition. Then use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your old drive to your new. Select the SSD as your Startup Drive in System Preferences.
Alternately, you can use Lion DiskMaker to create a bootable USB flash Drive (8GB minimum) or a dual-layer DVD if you've downloaded Mountain Lion and still have the "Install OS X Mountain Lion.app" in your Applications folder. If you've already purchased ML, you can simply redownload this file again and quit the application when it finishes downloading and begins the installation.
Either method will work.
Good luck,
Clinton

• PowerBook G4 hangs after install/reboot with Combo Mac OS X 10.5.8 update

I've got a Titanium PowerBook G4 1GHz. It had Mac OS X 10.5.4 installed.
Then I went to Software Update and it downloaded the Combo software 10.5.4 and after it rebooted, it is stuck at "Installing 2 items, Configuring installation."
You can see the progress bar pulsating but it's stuck and I dont hear any hard drive activity. I had to hard power down and got back in and did Software Update again and after it rebooted, same issue.
Whats up with that?

Some general advice on updating Leopard:
It is worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, as they have all been extensively beta-tested, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first to an external hard disk. Ideally you should always have a bootable clone of your system that enables you to revert to the previous pre-update state.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site.
The Combo updater of Leopard 10.5.8 can be found here:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
Full details about the 10.5.8 update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3606
More information on using Software Updater here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.5.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.5.7 to 10.5.8. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
Now proceed as follows:
4. Close all applications and turn off energy saving and screensaver.
5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious! In fact a second restart can be recommended.
9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them compliant with the latest version of your operating system. Give them a week or two while you regularly check their websites for updates.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.
Lastly, Apple's own article on the subject of Software Update may also be useful reading:

If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up.  If you have installed an OS update and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party add-on.
Additional tips on software installation here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106692
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for  problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
/Library/InputManagers
~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later).

• No access to Enturage application folder after installing Office 2004

I´m not sure this this the right forum, but when I ask Microsoft Enturage people, this is a Mac Tiger security/permission problem, and when I ask Apple people this is a Microsoft Enturage problem, so I don´t know.
So,my issue: I have just reinstalled my HD, using "archive & Install". After the installation, I installed Office 2004. Everything works fine (Word, Excel etc) extept for Enturage, I cannot run the application. The message I get after klicking the icon is:
"You do not have write access to the Enturage applocation folder. To run Enturage you must have the administrative user remove the Identities folder from the application folder."
I have an admin-user. I have not changed user (only me and the admin) during installation.
The reason for reinstalling my Mac was solely because of Enturage-problems, and now, after all this effort, it will still not work! This can make a person go insane!
I am not a very technical person, and will be very greatful for all help!

Did you shut down the database before moving files?I didn't move any files, I just copied some files to the other node.
Can you connect in sqlplus?Yes that was possible. I also had a connection to the database using TOAD.
After looking for the problem together with a colleague I've found out that I had to add some more listening addresses. The problem was that my nodes node1 and node2 have the IPs 10.10.10.2 and 10.10.10.3 but the virtual server of the cluster which forms the database oracledb for the clients runs on 10.10.10.103. So there was the name for e.g. node1 in the configuration files but also the IP-address 10.10.10.103 which the system couldn't resolve. After adding all possibilities using the Net Manager and after restarting the services it worked fine. At least until now. I haven't tried everything yet... I will go on tomorrow... thx so far.

• PSE 6 missing folder to install actions

For some reason I am missing part of the path to install actions on my Mac.  The path I'm taking is~ Library\Application Support\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Photo Creations\Photo Effects.  The path I'm missing is~ \6.0\Photo Creations\Photo Effects.  I'm thinking it may have been my fault, I thought I copied the photo effects files and saved them to my external hard drive, I have since cleaned out my EHD and deleted the trash can.  My effects are still working in PSE but the folder with the Photo Effects folder is not found.  I have done a search on my computer and external components and nothing shows up.  I'm thinking I will have to do an uninstall and reinstall in order to get the path back.
Any insight on my problem is much appreciated
Thanks,
Kari

You can't find that folder by searching in spotlight. My guess is that you must be looking in the wrong library--it's the one at the top level of your hard drive, not your username>library and not system>library. If you had inadvertently trashed those files, they wouldn't still be working in PSE. (they do still work, don't they, not just show up in the palette?)

• Can I trash Backupsbackupd folder after installing SL?

I initially had trouble installing SL because of a Backupsbackupd folder on my internal HD where I wanted the installation to take place. After a lot of searching I found that I had to drag the folder to trash, then out of trash and copied to the desktop. I was then successful in installing SL without a hitch. My question is: After the installation I was left with one Backupsbackupd folder still in the trash, and one still on the desktop. I emptied the trash and still have one Backupsbackupd folder on the desktop. Is it safe to trash that one now that Time Machine has operated successfully with Snow Leopard installed?

No,it's not empty, the Backupsbackupd folder has another folder inside named with my full name, and inside of that are two files named respectively:
'2oo8-10-03-181121.inProgress' and 'Latest'.
My TIME MACHINE backs up to an external drive named Time Machine,
so In the Finder I go to DEVICES and click on the TIME MACHINE icon and
I find a folder Backupsbackupd with my 'full name' folder inside as above, but inside of that there are 21folders whose dates correspond to backups made from 10-04 to TODAY; a correct accounting.
As long as I have the Backupsbackupd folder in the TIME MACHINE which shows accurate data, I should be able to trash the one on my desktop, right?
