Missing loopback interface and modules, and isofs mounting [SOLVED!]

In my new archlinux istallation, isofs and loopback facilities are not present and when installed by hand do not seem to work. [See FINAL SOLUTION below. Thanks for the suggestions I got].
Now, I was under the impression that such facilities should be automatically available at the end of a normal installation.
For instance, in an installation I made last fall, I can mount .iso filesystem through the loopback interface with no problems (and that even without using -t, with just 'mount image.iso /mnt/iso').  In that installation, lsmod shows the modules
  loop                  18526  2
  isofs                  32946  1
(also, a module isofs is present in /lib/modules, though I cannot find a loop module there)
and eight loopback devices are available as /dev/loop0 ... /dev/loop7
On the other hand, in the new installation no /dev/loop devices are present, and no loop and isofs modules show up either
as installed (as reported by lsmod) or at least in the libraries. Has something changed recently? Do I need to install a package that will set up my installation for loopack mounting and mounting of .iso filesystems?
INTERIM SOLUTION
I mentioned above that in my older Linux box, on an Arch Linux installed months ago but not upgraded for many weeks, I had loopback devices running and isofs and loop modules installed, and all working well by itself. Today I did an upgrade, and noticed that it came with a new kernel (3.3?), probably the same I had on the new machine. So I rebooted after that---and found the exact problem as on the new machine: /dev/loop* missing, no modules isofs or loop appearing in lsmod. So I installed by hand a loopback interface, with 'mknod /dev/loop0 b 7 0'. Then I made sure I had the isofs package installed, and installed the isofs module with modprob; this time isofs showed on lsmod, but loop didn't yet. Finally I mounted a data DVD (note that the incantation -t iso9660 is no longer necessary), and as a last thing I mounted an .iso file; both worked. Only after this did a module loop show up in lsmod.
So probably something subtle changed in the dependencies between installed packages, installed modules, and installed loopback devices, so that something is out of sync and has to be nursed manually. Better experts than I may throw
some light on this problem and hopefully fix it.
FINAL AND SATISFACTORY SOLUTION
Whatever may have happened before, the following works like a charm:
I upgrade Arch; it installs 3.3.1-1-ARCH as a kernel in /boot.
I reboot to let the new kernel "take".
No loop0,...,loop7 devices show up in /dev; no isofs or loop show up with lsmod; isofs (but no loop) present in /lib/modules
I do 'mount /dev/sr0 /iso' (NOTE: no -t iso9660' option) with a CD in the sr0 drive; the CD filesystem shows up in /iso.
After this, isofs shows up in 'lsmod|grep isofs', but no loop device yet.
I unmount /iso and do 'mount ~tt/ markov.iso /iso' (NOTE: no -t iso9660' option); the markov filesystem shows up in /iso.
After this, loop0,...,loop7 devices show up in /dev, and a loop module (wherever that camefrom) appears in lsmod.
In other words, everything required for isofs automounts as necessary and remains mounted until new reboot.
The '-t iso9660' option is not necessary. As noted by an other Arch post, this option may be detrimental and might have been the culprit; this is an issue I will explore on the next reboot.

When /etc/rc.sysinit is invoked during the bootprocess; it should automatically start a loopback interface (unless you've specifically disabled it in /etc/rc.d/network or so).
Check your logs to see if your find any related errors.

  • OSPF and loopback interface

    Hello,
When you set a loopback interface port, do you use the same ip address as the interface configured for the area number? Example, if the interface is 192.168.0.1, will your loopback ip address be 192.168.0.1?
Do you increment the ip address for example: 192.168.0.2
    Thank you,

    Jason
I do not understand whether your question is asking how you configure a loopback interface or whether you are asking how you configure OSPF to process on the loopback interface.
A loopback interface is a virtual interface on a router. You assign an IP address to the loopback interface much as you would assign an address on a physical interface. The subnet mask for the loopback interface can be a normal subnet mask or it could be a host specific /32 mask (255.255.255.255). What mask to use depends on how your network is designed.
Once you have assigned an IP address on the loopback interface if you want to have OSPF include the interface then you would need a network statement under router ospf that would include the loopback interface address. If your loopback interface were assigned address 172.16.1.10 then any of these network statements could work:
    network 172.16.1.10 0.0.0.0 area 10
    network 172.16.1.0 0.0.0.31 area 10
    network 172.16.0.0 0.0.255.255 area 10
If this does not explain what you want then perhaps you can clarify your question.

  • How can i format and finaly mount??

    Hi guys,
i'm trying to create an image bootable from scratch, but i fell in error right at the beginning .
I've created an image filled by zero with
    dd if=/dev/zero of=deb.iso bs=1M count=2048
after that i've partitioning this file with
    cfdisk deb.iso
and the resultant partition table is
    Disk ../deb.iso: 2 GiB, 2147483648 bytes, 4194304 sectors
    Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
    Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
    I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
    Disklabel type: dos
    Disk identifier: 0x114cf359
Device Boot Start End Sectors Size Id Type
    ../deb.iso1 * 2048 718847 716800 350M 83 Linux
    ../deb.iso2 718848 4194303 3475456 1,7G 83 Linux
At this point i've create a block devices for each partition, so
    losetup -o $((2048*512)) /dev/loop0 ../deb.iso
    losetup -o $((718848*512)) /dev/loop1 ../deb.iso
then i formatted it in ext4
    mkfs.ext4 /dev/loop0
    mkfs.ext4 /dev/loop1
and until here everything goes right.
Now i decided to mount my formatted loop devices, so
    mkdir root
    mount /dev/loop1 root
    cd root
    mkdir boot
but when i give the command for mount the /dev/loop0, this give me back an error
    mount /dev/loop0 boot
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/loop0,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
    dmesg | tail or so.
The permission of directory and the privilege for mount devices it's ok.
I also tried mount the partition without use losetup, directly from
    mount -o loop,offset=$((2048*512)) -t ext4 ../deb.iso boot/
or format directly the partition with
    mkfs.ext4 -E offset=$((2048*512)) deb.iso
    but always is the same.
    My dmesg said:
[ 3123.395788] JBD2: no valid journal superblock found
    [ 3123.395796] EXT4-fs (loop0): error loading journal
Can someone help me with this damn trouble?? Thanks you very much

How we are used to hear in computer science, Divide et impera!
I divided my deb.iso in 3 pices using dd. Remebering the partitions table

    dd if=deb.img of=deb.img.1 bs=512 skip=718848
To be sure that i haven't corrupted something i've calculeted the md5 hash of this file and the original
    cat deb.img.mbr deb.img.0 deb.img.1 | md5sum
    f33fed42eb63666d325e4fff796bfef9
    md5sum deb.img
    f33fed42eb63666d325e4fff796bfef9
So i was able to format my partitions and then mount them
    mkfs.ext4 deb.iso.0
    mkfs.ext4 deb.iso.1
    mkdir root
    mount deb.iso.1 root
    cd root
    mkdir boot
    mount ../deb.iso.0 boot
    touch boot/test
    cd ..
    umount root/boot
    umount root
    I've reassembled the image
    cat deb.img.mbr deb.img.0 deb.img.1 > deb_final.img
and obviously if i recalculate the md5 is different then the initaly deb.img because i formatted and wrote some file in these partitions.
    md5sum deb.img
    f33fed42eb63666d325e4fff796bfef9
    md5sum deb_final.img
    b1b5656781b28803759d46ee67c428d5
To be sure, i've done the ultimately proof
    sudo mount -o loop,offset=$((2048*512)) deb_final.img root
    ls root
    test lost+found
Et voilà there is the file test as i aspected.
Now do not forget to umont the partition
    sudo umount root
I hope that this post will be useful for someone in future. If you have other solution to the initial problem, write it below.

  • Circle with a Slash Through it and Non-Mounting Hard Drive

    Hello,
So I have a Macbook Pro (Early 2011) and the other day it was installing some update. It turned off, so I went upstairs to plug it in but once I powered it on and logged in it just shows a circle with a slash on it. The guest user account works fine. After researching on Google, I found out that the circle with slash means its missing boot files and I should try reinstalling the os with an archive and install. It wouldn't show up as a valid partition to recover from. In disk utility, the main hard drive shows up, the Macintosh HD shows up as well but is greyed out and will not mount. I just need to copy the files off it, and then I can do a clean install of the OS.

Problems were encountered during repair of the partition map
First off, thanks for being so detailed it saves a lot of trouble.
What has occured is your GUID partition map has become corrupted, this small hidden section on the drive is responsible for telling the hardware what and sizes of the partitions are on that drive. (OS X Lion, Lion Recovery and EFI)
The only way to rebuild the partition map is to erase and reformat the ENTIRE drive, including the hidden Lion Recovery Partition (which you booted into (Command R) to use Disk Utility to try to repair the drive.) Obviously this can't be done from the same drive booted from.
Unfortunatly with OS X 10.7 Apple didn't provide OS X install disks to install OS X onto a external drive or to boot from to perform the complete erase and reformat of the entire drive.
However if you have a blank powered external drive and a fast, reliable Internet connection (AppleID and password), you can Command R boot into Lion Recovery, format the external drive (Disk Utility: Partition: Options: GUID, Format: OS X Ext. J) and then install Lion from Apple's servers onto the external drive.
Once you have that, reboot holding the Option key down (wired keyboard) and select the external drive to boot from. Once you go through setup, try to grab your files off the internal drive.
(DataRescue can be used to recover deleted or corrupt file structure files directly from the 1's and 0's on the drive itself, it's $99, but a option if for some reason you can't do it manually via drag and drop)
Once you have all your files off the machine (make another copy to another drive and disconnect that drive), use Disk Utility (booted on the external drive, it's in the Utilities folder) to select the entire internal drive (drive makers name and size) and perform a Erase with Security Option Zero All Data. This will take a few hours so wait it out. What this will do is force 0's to every bit on the drive, if the hardware detects a bad sector it will map that bad sector off. (I suspect you have a failed sector in your GUID parititon map.)
Once that's complete, check the Partition tab: that Options is GUID and Format is OS X Extended (j)
Now if you have a newer Mac, if you reboot normally (no external drive connected) the Mac itself should install either the Lion Recovery Partition or combined with OS X all by itself over the Internet, I haven't seen or done this yet, so you'll be poineering this aspect. If you get Lion Recovery, then simply boot into it (Command R) and install Lion onto the Lion Partition.
Then go about installing all your apps first, then create a same named user as the old one (different password is fine) if you didn't use the same name as before, and then connect the external drive and transfer your contents of your User file folders (Music, Pictures, Movies etc) into their same name folders on the new setup, don't change anything, just select all and drag and drop, replace. By using the same user name, it preserves your itunes playlists and other data that depends upon correct user pathnames to the secondary files. If you start moving things around you'll lose the pathnames to your secondary files (songs). If your permissions are off, Finder: Get Info to set all (including down inside folders) to your new username.
If Internet Recovery  doesn't work, option boot from the external drive and download Carbon Copy Cloner (free to use, donations accepted) and learn how to clone both your Lion Recovery Partition and OS X Lion Partition back onto your internal drive.
    http://www.bombich.com/
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
If by some chance you don't have a fast, relaible Internet connection your going to have ot take your machine to someplace that does, or have Apple fix the mess they caused by not supplying boot disks.
You can opt to buy the $69 Lion USB thumb drive, you can option boot off of that and perform the same functions above onto a external drive to boot from and recover your files.

  • SAP IDOC's, interfaces and BAPI's

Hi i am new to SD, can anyone give me documentation or reading material for SAP IDOC's, interfaces and BAPI's .
    Help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanking you

    Hi Reddy,
Very general question, I don't think you will find the answer in one document.
BAPIs are normal function modules, with predefined input and output structures to perform standard business transactions.
IDOCs are standardised interface documents to transfer data.
Once the IDOC is read, it almost always calls a BAPI to perform the business transaction.
Therefore start with reading about BAPIs since you will definately have to master those when starting to work on interfaces.
There are hundreds of BAPIs so best is to start with a specific process, example sales order create or material master create.
Try transaction BAPI, this lists most of the BAPIs and contains excellent documentation.
    Thanks for your points,

  • Help with midi/usb interface and Logic 8

    Hi there,
    So here is the 'goal'
I have a SoftStep (MIDI USB interface) running into Logic 8 or Mainstage - my ideal scenario would be to pre-load various loops, clicks and Ambient Pads into Logic - these are usually in MP3 format.
Ideally, I would then be able to assign various buttons on the MIDI footpedal to start, stop and cycle through the various files.
Is this possible, and if so, how would I go about setting this up?
Many thanks in advance for your help.
    T

he driver is indeed a universal version.
    Cool.
I doubt it's the MIDI interface simply because when I used it to connect a Roland Juno-D to the computer, it worked perfectly fine.
    Ok, cool. Rules that out
Notes get ''stuck'' on the visual keyboard, some notes are still considered 'pressed' until I press them again. There aren't many but it's worth noting.
Is it always the same notes? For instance, if C3 will never give a note off, it might indicate a problem with the actual keyboard mechanism in the piano.
ANYWAYS, when I've placed a monitor inside the environment at the places you mentioned, I can indeed see those odd low notes.
So it seems like the piano is sending low notes as you play the keyboard...
So I see this is a pretty solid visualize representation of what I thought was wrong. Note the C-2 is lower than I can even reach on my standard sized piano (my lowest note is A-1).
It certainly seems as though the piano is sending spurious MIDI data, as I mentioned, it might be the actual physical keyboard mechanism is mistriggering. From the things you've tried, it certainly sems to be the actual piano that's playing up, and not the MIDI interface or computer.
At this stage, I'd probably try playing around with the piano's MIDI settings, trying a reset procedure if it has one. It might be something as simple as dirt and crud in the keyboard causing mistriggering.
While you could use the environment to filter out those C-2 notes, it's not really going to help if the piano is missing note offs and triggering wrong notes. It might, as you initially suspected, be knackered...

  • ASR bvi interface and port monitor

    Hello,
I have few subnets connected to asr subinterfaces - then strip off vlan information, and all subnets are in the same bridge domain and have common
    gateway -BVI 100.
What I need is monitor all IP traffic that pass through Gateway to internet. With L3 interface I used to configure "port monitor" but with BVI I dont have
monitor port option. I Considered also loopback interface except BVI but it dont support monitor port either.
Configuration is below. Any suggestions about monitor that traffic ?
    subnet (vlan 100) ----------  g0/1/0/1.100 l2transport --
                                                                                        |----------- BVI 100 (Gateway) ------
    subnet (vlan 200) ----------  g0/1/0/1.200 l2transport --
    interface GigabitEthernet0/1/0/1.100 l2transport
    encapsulation dot1q 100
rewrite ingress tag pop 1 symmetric
    nterface GigabitEthernet0/1/0/1.200 l2transport
      encapsulation dot1q 100
rewrite ingress tag pop 1 symmetric
    interface BVI100
    ipv4 address 192.168.0.1 255.255.255.0
    l2vpn
    bridge group TEST
      bridge-domain te1
       interface GigabitEthernet0/1/0/1.100
       interface GigabitEthernet0/1/0/1.200
       routed interface BVI100
    regards

traffic would be mirrored as is, so VLAN tags would be preserved. Either you can connect you sniffer directly to the destination port and you’d see traffic with vlans 100 and 200 or you may do kind of r-span and yet push 2nd tag to allow your mirrored traffic to go though set of switches to the sniffer.
    r-span example:
    interface TenGigE0/2/0/0.3 l2transport
    encapsulation dot1q 100
rewrite ingress tag pop 1 symmetric
    monitor-session akspan
    monitor-session akspan
    destination interface GigabitEthernet0/7/1/17.1095
    interface GigabitEthernet0/7/1/17.1095 l2transport
    encapsulation dot1q 1095
rewrite ingress tag pop 1 symmetric
Here I mirror VLAN 100 traffic and yet we push 2nd tag when packets are sent out of GigabitEthernet0/7/1/17.1095, so we’d have on wire {1095,100} tags.

  • Deff. b/w form interface and globel definition

what is the defference bt form interface and globel definition

    Hi,
Form Interface is where you get your internal tables, variables and all necessary information from the driver program. You specify the required data here.
Pls note that if you need to pass internal tables from the driver program to the SF then you need to create a structure with the similar fields in your internal table and give a reference to the same here in Form interface.
The import and export are nothing but same like a Function module, for variable to be passed from the driver program add them in the import tab. Export you can just let it remain as it is.
In the tables tab add the tables what you require from the driver program.
Global definitions are nothing but where you declare variables, work areas required to be used further in you program.
To do coding in SF, you need to add program lines. This you can do by creating any window and then on the left hand tree of the main window, right click and then you can find the options to create various things like table, window, program lines, command et.al.
Hope this helps you to build a brief idea about Smartforms.

  • The difference between IEEE802.1Q Native VLAN sub-interface and Physical interface?

    Hello
I think the following topologies are supported for Cisco Routers
And the Physical interface also can be using as Native VLAN interface right?
    Topology 1.
     R1 Gi0.1 ------ IEEE802.1Q Tunneling  L2SW ------ Gi0 R2
    R1 - configuration
    interface GigabitEthernet0.1
     encapsulation dot1Q 1 native
     ip address 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.0
    Topology 2.
    R1 Gi0 ------ IEEE802.1Q Tunneling L2SW ------ Gi0 R2
    interface GigabitEthernet0
    ip address 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.0
And is it ok to use the physical interface and sub-interface with dynamic routing such as EIGRP or OSPF etc?
    R1 Gi 0 ---- Point to Multipoint EIGRP or OSPF ---- Gi0 R2 / R3
Gi 0.20--- Point to Point EIGRP or OSPF --- Gi0.10 R4  (same VLAN-ID)
    R1 - configuration
    interface GigabitEthernet0
     ip address 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.0
    interface GigabitEthernet8.20
     encapsulation dot1Q 20
     ip address 20.0.0.1 255.255.255.0
Any information is very appreciated. but if there is any CCO document please let me know.
Thank you very much and regards,
    Masanobu Hiyoshi

    Hello,
    The diagram is helpful.
If I am getting you correctly, you have three routers interconnected by a switch, and you want them to operate in a hub-and-spoke fashion even though the switch is capable of allowing direct communication between any of these routers.
Your first scenario is concerned with all three routers being in the same VLAN, and by using neighbor commands, you force these routers to establish targeted EIGRP adjacencies R1-R2 and R1-R3, with R1 being the hub.
Your second scenario is concerned with creating one VLAN per spoke, having subinterfaces for each spoke VLAN created on R1 as the router, and putting each spoke just in its own VLAN.
Your scenarios are not really concerned with the concept of native VLAN or the way it is configured, to be honest. Whether you use a native VLAN in either of your scenarios, or whether you configure the native VLAN on a subinterface or on the physical interface makes no difference. There is simply no difference to using or not using a native VLAN in any of your scenarios, and there is no difference to the native VLAN configuration being placed on a physical interface or a subinterface. It's as plain as that. Both your scenarios will work.
My personal opinion, though, is that forcing routers on a broadcast multi-access segment such as Ethernet to operate in a hub-and-spoke fashion is somewhat artificial. Why would you want to do this? Both scenarios have drawbacks: in the first scenario, you need to add a neighbor statement for each spoke to the hub, limiting the scalability. In the second scenario, you waste VLANs and IP subnets if there are many spokes. The primary question is, though: why would you want an Ethernet segment to operate as a hub-and-spoke network? Sure, these things are done but they are motivated by specific needs so I would like to know if you have any.
Even if you needed your network to operate in a hub-and-spoke mode, there are more efficient means of achieving that: Cisco switches support so-called protected ports that are prevented from talking to each other. By configuring the switch ports to spokes as protected, you will prevent the spokes from seeing each other. You would not need, then, to configure static neighbors in EIGRP, or to waste VLANs for individual spokes. What you would need to do would be deactivating the split horizon on R1's interface, and using the ip next-hop-self eigrp command on R1 to tweak the next hop information to point to R1 so that the spokes do not attempt to route packets to each other directly but rather route them over R1.
I do not believe I have seen any special CCO documents regarding the use of physical interfaces or subinterfaces for native VLAN or for your scenarios.
    Best regards,
    Peter

    and Java Runnable?
thnxClasses and interfaces are not identified by just their "name", like Runnable. The actual "name" the compiler uses is java.lang.Runnable. So even if you duplicate the Runnable interface in your own package, it's not the same as far as the compiler is concerned, because it's in a different package.
    Try importing both java.util.* and java.awt.* (which both have a class or interface named List), and then try to compile List myList = new ArrayList();
