Missing messages in Mac Mail that appear in my PC Outlook

Ok - this is VERY strange. I recently posted an ad on Craigs List and was surprised to get just a single response. Later in the day I went to my office & on my PC, in outlook, were about 12 emails responding to the posting. Including 3 follow-up emails from the single response I did get on my Mac (in other words I got 1 of the 4 messages the same guy sent on my MacBook). I get email on both computers regularly - everything is redundant as I have messages stay on the server for 21 days so I get all my email in multiple places (I have 3 laptops & a blackberry). I assumed the missing mail would be in the junk folder - NOPE. The mail is no where to be found on my Mac. Had I not looked on my pc for mail I would have missed all the emails - any ideas? BTW - when I go to webmail, all messages are there. I continue to get all other mail throughout the day so mail is sending & receiving just fine.

& it gets better. I looked on my other MacBook Pro with 10.6.3 & in it's mail program contains ALL the missing messages but they were in brown listed as Junk. But at least they were in the list!

  • Iphone receiving read messages from mac mail

My iphone used to only receive unread emails as long as entourage on my mac wasnt open. Now i have moved to mac mail and my phone is receiving read messages from mac mail. Is there a setting im missing that will make my phone only receive new messages?
I still want my mac mail to receive these same emails later as it used to work.

You would still receive read e-mails in the inbox on your iPhone (and vice-versa) if you used IMAP but they would show as having been read and not as new. IMAP keeps all mail clients synchronised. The only alternative would be to use POP to download to your phone and IMAP to download to your laptop and create another folder on your computer and move mail over to it when read. By default, POP only downloads from the inbox so your phone would not download it again. IMAP would leave a copy in the folder you have created on the server in case you have problems with your laptop. If you delete read e-mails on your laptop, you can set it to remove them from the server after a fixed time and they would remain there until then but your phone would not download them again.

  • I have an iMac, and have a Verizon DSL account. Recently, my Mac Mail keeps requesting the passwords on my account every few minutes, and will not allow me to send messages using Mac Mail. I cannot edit the outgoing server; how can I send emails?

I have an iMac, and have a Verizon DSL account (3 email addresses). Recently, my Mac Mail keeps requesting the passwords on my accounts every few minutes, and will not allow me to send messages using Mac Mail (the message says that the outgoing server was rejected. I cannot edit the outgoing server, and the keychain will not save my passwords (the ports are valid). How can I change the outgoing server to send emails, and how can I avoid having Mail request my passwords every 2 minutes? Verizon, as usual, will not provide support to iMacs.

Is there an email saved in your drafts or outbox folder?  I suspect that Mail is continually trying to send it, and each time Google is rejecting the email message.
You can open the message and then delete it from your Outbox folder.  Then try removing all @gmail email addresses from it and seeing whether you can send to the other folks.  I suspect that will work.
With email, if an SMTP server *can* verify email addresses, sometimes it will and it will refuse to send messages.  If a message has to be relayed across servers, no verification is done, and you'll get a bounce if an email address is bad.

so I get looks but that is not my email recovery can help you reset your security information by sending a message to your email recovery: j ••••• @ mail.com

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; this can be done by clicking here and picking a method, or if your country isn't listed, filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

  • How to send a mail that appears as meeting dialog in MS outlook?

    Hi:
Is it possible for the mail adapter to send a mail that appears as a meeting dialog in Ms outlook? If yes, could you please tell how to do it? Actually I'm developing my own module. Thanks a lot.

if writing a module does not help you...I would suggest you go for a Java proxy for sending this mail and refer to this link for creating a Outlook meeting request using Javamail.

  • Viewing entourage messages in mac mail

my office uses entourage. i prefer to use mac mail so i can manage my personal messages and work messages from the same program. so i set up a new account in my mail preferences with the proper incoming and outgoing mail servers and am getting my messages and sending them out fine.
    PROBLEM IS...
i keep missing meetings because i'm getting everything BUT calendar events people at work send me. i don't know why these specific messages are being transferred to my mac mail (if i open entourage they are there - but that defeats the point). at my last job we used entourage and these calendar events went through - i'd just click on them and they'd go into ical and i could reply right then and there. is it because my new office account is an exchange account?
anyway, anyone know how i can get these meeting notices to come to my mac mail?
    thanks

I saw similar behavior at my previous employer when using an account set up as an "Exchange" account. I eventually found two workarounds:
    1) Set the account up as an IMAP account. That seemed to show the invites and I was able to add them to iCal.
    2) Leave it as an Exchange account and when you get an invite (the subject or message content should tip you off to such), try cycling through the message views. You can do this either by going to View -> Message and then going through the options in the submenu that pops up, or by using command-] (next alternative) or command-[ (previous alternative). You should be able to see the invite and then add it to iCal.
Then again, none of this would be necessary if Mail handled Exchange accounts properly instead of just using IMAP (for example, I can't use Mail here at work because IMAP is disabled on the Exchange server), but that's a whole different can of worms.
    Hope this helps.

  • Missing emails imap mac mail

I'm looking for emails that I sent my accountant January/february this year and they are gone!  Can't see them in time machine either... can one search email in time machine?  It doesn't seem so for me.
    imac/iphone/macbook
-I'm looking specifically in my sent folder, but expanded search to All also
-I transitioned from pop to imap a few months ago when I started using the macbook and wanted more sync across computers.
-it's not like all the messages are gone... there are plenty of emails but the specific ones I'm looking for are not there now, not sure how many others might be gone
-I checked all my computers and none are set to pop   none for erase off server
-I did have trouble setting up mail on my macbook... so I switched to thunderbird for that computer
What is the procedure for seeing emails on time machine? Don't I start it while in mail program and just roll the time back and I should see archived versions??
-The other variable is I upgraded from snow leop  to  mt lion about this same time- Jan/Feb   so I could use the cloud.  But wouldn't my old leopard mail archives still be intact even if lion did some mail restructure??
    thanks
    Bob

Update...  Thanks for bearing w/me... I found the missing messages in time machine and recovered them
I found that sent emails did have a gap... they were all gone for a period of a couple months... from the time I archived, on my mac, and swtiched to imap thru about a month ago are gone... They had deleted from the server even though settings say don't delete... I'll watch to make sure they aren't deleting still... maybe I had some setting back a month ago that caused deletion?? I"m still learning about this imap stuff.

  • How do i restore deleted email messages from mac mail back to hotmail server?

i have a hotmail email address i use, i have been using      mac lion mail
here the problem - i found loads of my emails missing when using hotmail webpage
but in MacMail they are all there still.
i found that in macmail settings "remove copy from server after retrieving a message" was selected(after one week). (now i have disabled this function)
how can i send them back to the hotmail server email box?
Many thanks in advance for help. Rick

the emails are in inbox of mac mail back to 2009 but when i log in the hotmail.com website they only go back to jan 2012
i think mac mail has erased the from hotmail server after placing them in the mac mail.
i need emails back on hotmail server for access to old emails when working out and about with ipad.
I do not know if you can unfortunately, having deleted them from the POP server and as Hotmail does not offer an iMap or Exchange solution for OSX they may be 'marooned'
I will search around and see if I can find a solution.
But before anything else happens backup your mail (Mailbox Menu>Export Mailbox) and save the file somewhere you can find it, you probably don't need to hear this but you should be (have been) backing up regularly, for this and many other reasons.
I'll post back if I can find a solution to the issue.

  • Cannot send message (from mac mail) using the server iCloud

My Mac Mail send stopped working during a large number of mail sends yesterday.Could that be an issue? If so, what to do?
Message further reads - The sender address [email protected] was rejected by the server smtp.mail.me.com.
I deleted the account and set it up again, but still can't get the mail out. Same messages
If I go on to iCloud, mail send is working fine.
Can anyone see anything wrong or suggest what to do?
I've deleted the user name below for the screenshot.
    Thanks in anticipation.

There is no user name entered in your SMTP (advanced) preferences.

  • Starring messages in MAC Mail

    Hey Guys,
I just now found that MAC Mail synchornizes pretty well
with Gmail...so I might start using it instead...
One thing I'm not seeing is the ability to 'star' an item
that also syncs it with Gmail.
    Is there a way?
    Thanks!

Mail has the ability to 'flag' a message. Not sure if Gmail would take that as starred. You might have to experiment. Please post back here if it works. Would be good to know.

  • Individual messages in Mac Mail (ver 4.6) not opening

In my Mac Mail (ver 4.6), sometimes individual messages don't open in new window. Any ideas?

Is this happening to all emails from, say sender A? Or are you still receiving emails from sender A, but not in the same "convo"?
I am just wondering if sender A is sending you email that has "no subject", thus Apple Mail thinks it's apart of a convo. Therefore it'll group them into a "convo".

  • Mac mail headers appearing as gibberish

My mac mail headers are suddenly appearing as gibberish. This happened to me once before and I think it had something to do with suitcase and helvetica fractions but I cannot remember how to fix it. I don't seem to have helvetica fractions turned on in suitcase.

  • Gmail not sending messages in Mac Mail

I have recently switched to Gmail from Hotmail. I have linked my Mac Mail to my new account and I'm able to receive messages fine. However, when I try to send a message, it just sits in the Outbox. I also get the spinning wheel next to the Sent folder. Please help!

    Hello tahm77,
Thanks for the follow up. If your issue persists after looking over the article above, you can contact Apple Support or take your device to the nearest Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider for additional assistance.
If you plan to visit an Apple Retail Store, you can make a reservation at the Genius Bar.

  • Sent message from Mac Mail work email shows my personal gmail account as Mail to: and account summary shows outgoing mail server as smtp.google while incoming shows imap.google

sent email from work through Mac Mail shows to the sender Mail to: (personal gmail). Account summary shows smtp.google on outgoing server and imap.google on incoming

Is there a way to add this automatically?
For a semi-permanent change, the Sending Server is named as "OutGoing Mail Server SMTP" on the Preference pane for each Mail Account.
To change its specifics, move the mouse cursor over it and choose "Edit SMTP Server List" from the drop-down Menu. Then choose the SMTP Server you wish to inspect/change and its information will be shown. If using similar ones for two different email accounts, change the description field, e.g., change "gmail" to "gmail (work)".
