Missing plug in in mail program

My mail program doesn't open video. It says "missing plugin" any ideas?

Hello everyone,
Having the same problem with my mail app (6.2 on ML 10.8.2). Most jpg images do not show in-line but only in the quick-view. I only see "missing plug-in" in the message.
I have rebuilt mailboxes and removed java preferences files as some had successfully suggested. Unfortunately, none of these did the trick for me. Any more ideas?.

All images in my e-mails were replaced by a message "Missing Plug-in". How do I fix this?

    Hello aehrenr:
I got here by destiny. After many days looking for a problem in Mail I just found the solution.
My Mail program started developing the following problem progresively. All attachements stop showing as they usually do. In the case of a jpeg picture, I could see the image. In case of a folder, I could see the folder. This is the default way, I believe and the one I've always used since I moved to Mac.
This happenned in all trays or boxes. Very annoying. Besides, many recipients had problems too seeing my attachments. I had to explain they were in the mail but hidden somehow. They had to llok for them.
Luckily I found this thread. I typed in terminal as you said. Instantly all my attachements became visual again.
It seems you suggested this solution for other kind pf problem but it solved mine.
My system is an 27" iMac running 10.6.8 and Mail 4.6
Thanks you so much for this.

  • Missing Plug-ins in Mail

I have 'missing plug-in' issues in older and sent messages in Mail.  I've read some of the recommendations re JAVA but cannot find the files mentioned, e.g. preferences.   In Spotlight I find Java VisualVM with no preferences tabs when I open the file.  I downloaded Java off Apple support site for OS X 10.7 (I have 10.7.5) but on installation I apparently have a newer version, so I cancelled.
Going the Launchpad> Utilities route I find no Java either.
The problem is, for me, in Mail in emails sent or rececived some time ago.  Images do not show, with 'missing plug-in' as the only reference in their place.
Any advice, please (for a non-technical bloke) on a MacbookPro?

  • Mail viewer won't display attached photos, "Missing Plug-in"

This is a brand new issue for me, after years and years of using Mail.  Today I sent an email to a friend, and attached a jpg (exported from iPhoto).  When I looked at that sent email in Sent folder, there's message "Missing Plug-in" in place of the image.  Last time I sent an image was about a week ago, it worked correctly at that time.  I'm very sure I haven't changed any Mail settings in the interim.  Is this just a problem with the viewer, or a problem with Mail itself?

I've tried all the fixes listed in the discussions about missing plug-ins in Mail.  None of them worked.  I can see attachements in the emails, but when I forward them, the missing plug-in shows up in place of the attachments on the forwarded email.  I'm running the latest OS 10.7 on my Mac Pro and I just downloaded the latest Java app.  HELP!!

  • "Missing Plug-in" instead of image in incoming mail

Recently, some mail has arrived with gray text reading "Missing Plug-in" where the image should be. The attachment size shows next to the paper clip, and I can use the Save button to save the image, and view it with Preview.
But when I try to cut and paste the saved image into an outgoing message, the same gray text appears instead.
Not all incoming mail behaves this way. I have not yet been able to determine if this is unique to a single sender.

    Greetings All,
I've recently noticed the "Missing Plug-in" phenomenon too in Apple Mail (Version 3.6 (936)). I've tried resetting Java preferences by clicking the "Restore Defaults" button, but there's no change. Since I'm running Leopard 10.5.8 I didn't download the Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 2 at http://support.apple.com/downloads/. Is it okay to load this update if I'm running OS X 10.5.8? If so, I'll give it a try, but I don't want to attempt a fix if it's going to cause more problems.
I also went into Safari (Version 5.0.4 (5533.20.27)), into Preferences/Advanced and checked the Show Develop Menu in Menu Bar. I then went into Develop but found no Enable Extensions option. So that was a dead end.
I've checked my system for updates and everything seems to be up to date. However, I suspect that this just may be part of the problem. Sometimes things get fluky when updates occur. Strange how that is.
    Any suggestions will be appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Can't see PDF files in Mail - Missing plug in

    Hello!
Sometimes I can't see the PDF in Mail. In the message appears only blank page and a "Missing Plug in" .
When I try to download a PDF file the Firefox sent to me a plug in in  Quick time page but I downloaded all and doesn't fix the problem.
    Please, advise me.
    Thanks

    Hi Ryan,
This is not an Acrobat related issue, it is related to your local user profile, I will recommend you to contact your network administrator so that he can help you to create a shared user profile on the network.

  • Mail: photos won't display, only "missing plug-in" message

My wife's old G4 PowerMac running OS X10.5.8 recently stopped displaying photos in Mail.  Instead, all that displays is message "Missing Plug-in" and the photo number or caption.  This happens with all incoming e-mails, as well as outgoing e-mails generated from iPhoto, or just standard e-mails composed in Mail with an attached  photo.  The photo is there when she clicks on "Quick Look" but not in the field of the message.  HTML images in ads display fine...only individual photo attachments are missing.  Please help.  Thanks.

    Hi Neville.
I have the same problem with the "missing plug-in" message...but everytime I close out and try a second time the photos appear.
Is the path "applications" "utilities" "java"...if so I don't see "Java" in utilities, even though I was prompted to do a recent "java update" and did so?
Wondering where my "Java Preferences" file would be since I don't any file for "Java" in "utilities".
Any help/advice would be much appreciated!

  • MAIL - Missing Plug in?   NOT!

Hi,  Sometimes I'll send an email in MAIL (I have the latest of Snow Leopard and MAIL - and if I attach a few jpg images, or a signature - sometimes after I send it, if I look in the SENT folder I'll see that the email has NO pictures or signature in it.  In their place I'll see "Missing Plug in" - and not what I sent
But - if I quit MAIL, then simply open it again, all is fine!
This has happened several times.  So I guess I don't have a problem . . . but what's causing this?
    Thanks,
    Larry

Oh, I just read the "fix" of Java settings - restore default.  I did that now - but this problem is very intermittent!  Sometimes I won't see it for weeks - then it's there - then it's not?
Wonder what this inconsistency is?   I don't know if the restore defaults in Java settings works, because it might work on it's own anyway?
    Thanks,

  • Mail 6.6 missing plug-in for PDF view, can't save to RTFD file

    Hi,
I see there are some similar queries about this, but no definitive answer. I can't seem to save to RTFD file format, and my sent mail indicates a missing plug-in for where the PDF attachment should be.
I did mess around with the Mail Library a bit to transfer across my mail database from an older machine. Something which did not go smoothly at all.
Is there a way I can fix this?
    Thanks.

  • Mail 5.1 missing plug in with iPhoto

I just received an iPhoto generated message but instead of showing the pictures Mail 5.1 displays Missing Plug-in.  I have a 27" Imac, early 2010, just installed OS X Lion and the JAVA for OS X Lion.
What other plug in am I supposed to install for Mail to open the iPhoto pictures?

  • Mail has missing plug-in

In Safari 5.1 I removed the PDF from Quicktime Plug-In.  Now I am getting a message Mail that I am missing a plug-in when I attach a PDF file to an outgoing email.  Yet the PDF file does go out with the sent email.
Any clues?  Have I somehow removed a plug-in for mail?  Where do the Mail plug-ins live?
    Thanks,

  • "Missing Plug-in" ... just in Mail?

    Hi all
Most odd .... just this week I was using Mail to send an mp3 attachment (having been set up in OSX5.8 for over a year) and the position in the page that usually shows the mp3  .... now showss a dialogue that says "Missing Plug-in" ...... and exactly the same thing happens when I receive emails with attachments.(ie. the same behaviour with QT movie or pdf etc)
I re-installed Adobe plugins and Flash ........ Firefox works fine displaying any of the above in the BBC iPlayer etc  ....... just Mail says "missing Plug in"?
    Does anyone else recognise this?
    Amy thoughts much appreciated.
    Best wishes
    Richard
This problem on a Macbook 2.1 Ghz Core 2 duo 2 gb ram   OSX 5.8

Thanks for that BDA ..... how extraordinary? In fact I've just updated Java and although still using OSX 5.8 on this Macbook .... the symptoms are absolutely identical. ie The resulting emails all look fine to the recipients and it's only in your own Mail app that things look odd.  i wonder if the move up to Snow Leopard for some coincided with this juxtaposition of happenings with Java?!    I'll give the Java defaults a go and report back.
    Thanks again

  • Mail & Missing Plug-in /Java/

I'm using MAIL Version 5.0 (1244.2/1244.3) and I have a situation. I would send digital poscards from iPhoto to my email and when I recieve it Mail wouldn't let me see it. It says "Missing Plug-in" but I have installed a proper plug-in - Java for Lion. This is brand new computer with latest software installed and I have already issue? How come? Is there any solution for that?
Thanks very much for your help

    I just tried another scenario.
On my Imac, I have two user accounts, mine and one for my daughter.
    1. If my daughter send me an email from her account and  her Iphoto using iphoto template, I receive her email on my accouint perfectly. I have not the message "plug-in missing".
    2. On the other hand, if I send  an email from my account and my Iphoto using iphoto template to my daughter, she receives my email on her account with the message "plug-in missing".
It seems the probleme comes from either my iphoto or my domain an dnot from my mail application. But no idea to fix it.

  • Mail missing plug-in after update to 10.6.6

Since I updated to OSX 10.6.6 Mail shows 'missing plug-in' when I create an outgoing message with an attachment. I have also been prompted for passwords when sending email. Is there a fix?

For me, I am unable to log into my account if my Mac is authenticating against my Active Directory domain controller. If I am quick, and I can enter my password as soon as the prompt comes up, before the Mac has talked to the DC, it will let me log in. If not, I need to log in as the local admin account, disable my wifi connection, log out and log into my account and re-enable the wifi.
Doing this will get me logged in, but if I do anything that requires further authentication (installing apps, su in terminal etc), the authentication will fail unless I disable the wifi first. Quite a PITA, to say the least!
It seems that once I am logged in, I am able to connect to shares on the server, but running apps that access files on the shares, they seem to lock up frequently.
Is there a way to report this bug directly to Apple? Or do we just have to hope that they see this thread and fix it?
    Pete
