Missing Punctuation

I was helping if anyone can help.
I have made a pdf from an indesign (cs4) document but when I open the pdf in Acrobat Pro all of the punctuation is missing. Just replaced with a blank space.
The strange thing is, when I open the same pdf in Apple's Preview or in Safari then all of the punctuation is there.
The pdf is my portfolio and I'm supposed to be sending it to someone and I dont really want to risk him opening it in Acrobat and having the same issue.
Has anyone got any ideas.
Cheers

Shut down Acrobat. from Desktop choose find File and look for Cache in  the file menu> find when list come up remove any cache file with Adobe, or Acrobat, or Distiller Font Cache
Remove them to Trash empty and the reopen acrobat if you've thrown away the correct file, then Acrobat or Distiller with rebuild the list of fonts. Now try your Document. If punctuation Marks are back its fixed. If not fixed then,  Quit Acrobat again. Next open Distiller.  Choose edit settings > then click on fonts.
Set like the above and save.
Now go back Acrobat and try your fonts.

  • Missing Punctuation on Windows 8 Computer

I have a client who is complaining that apostrophes, quotes and em dashes are missing from the interactive PDF I created from InDesign CC. The client is viewing the PDF on Windows 8.
Punctuation is present when I view the same PDF file on my Windows 7 computer using Adobe 9 Pro and on my Mac using Preview.
Is there something I'm missing when i export the InDesign file to PDF?
I've searched the forum for an answer and the only thing close was for InDesign CS4. If my client has to send out instructions for reseting his client's Adobe PDF Reader settings in order to have the file view correctly, it just won't work. My client isn't very technical, and he certainly wouldn't be happy if that's the solution I have to give him.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Here is the link to the file that's giving us trouble. https://www.dropbox.com/s/r59sppne6cu1ck8/Leveraging_LinkedIn_2014_02_03_PDF.pdf
Note the font is Gil Sans, not Gil Sans MT.

  • Notes Missing Punctuation

In the notes function my ipod does not show quotation marks or apostrophes, though it does show periods, commas etc. Has anyone else had this problem? How did you fix it?

Same with mine. It's a bit frustrating when your notes relied on quotation marks quite heavily! Also, what is with the teensy size limit?! It takes me so long to chop up and save a file into bits that I may as well just read the thing on the computer!

  • Autocorrect not correcting capitalization/punctuat...

Okay, I'm probably not the only one here.
I'm just getting it over with and switching to the horrendous Desktop from Modern. My miff with Desktop (among other things) is that Desktop DOES NOT autocorrect like Modern does- it doesn't correct things like punctuation, capitalization, and spelling errors (it hightlights with the annoying red underline, but doesn't correct) and yes, both in Skype settings AND PC settings autocorrect is on.
Is there a way to make it so that it actually corrects, not just highlight? Because I miss punctuation here and there and the autocorrect caught it. With Desktop it doesn't.

Autocorrect has to be turned on in the horrendus desktop version. tools > Chat & IM > chat settings (might be some different wording, but the chat section is correct).

  • Time for a new HDD?

Just looking for some verification of my suspicions with my MBP.  About two days ago I noticed my browser was sluggish, but just thought it was a network issue.  Last night, basically every click resulted in a beach ball.  On a restart, jt took a good five minutes to get to log in and the same awful performance.
I verified the disk and it said it needed repair.  So I start pulling files off and attempted to do a Superduper clone, but that hung up.  I did manage to get a Time Machine backup done overnight and it was actually running Ok this AM after leaving it on overnight.   Gave me a chance to copy more individual files. Ran disk utility off the cd drive and tried a repair which failed.
The quick hardware test says everything is fine.  Im running the long one now.
So between my year old clone (I know, not very diligent with backup), recent Time Machine backup and just copying docs and media, I think I'm prepared to recover at this point (just hope I have my MS Office key).
My question is if this sounds like a hard dive that is ready to call it quits.  I cant recall any new software or anything significant I've done recently that would have screwed up the disk on the software side.  Trying to avoid wasting time on setting things back up just to have it fail.  Sorry for any typos or missing punctuation, typing long form on an iPad really is terrible.
Computer is a 15" MBP i7.  About 3 years old now, but i guess they do t make hard drives like they used to.  As evidenced by the OEMs cutting their warranties.  Never had a drive fail when I had PCs and this was my first Mac, so I'm not sure what else to check.

Good move in backing up your Mac.  As you noted you shoud have a current backup at all times anyway.
First, disks are disks and they fail at the same rate in Macs and PCs.  It is not yet clear that yours is failing, but it could be.  Let's assume it is the disk or the filesystem and proceed with that.  If it is not, then it could be incompatible software causing the issue.
With a sudden slowdown, if you have not changed any software, the disk is a prime suspect.  To check this issue run Disk Utiity (from the Applications > Utilities folder).
Click on the upper left disk name and see if the S.M.A.R.T. status says "Verified".  If it doesn't then the hard drive is indeed failing.  Stop there and report back.
Click on Verify Disk and report back any error message in red or that if finished normally with an green OK message.
Then click on the volume icon (indented below the disk icon, usually called "Macintosh HD").  Click on Verify Disk again and again report any red error messages or the it finished with a green OK message.
If it did not finish normally it will instruct you to boot from the recovery partition and repair the disk from there.
Boot from the recovery partition, start Disk Utility, and repair this disk.
    http://pondini.org/OSX/DU6.html
If this cured the problem then see if it boots and runs OK.  If not reïnstall OS X.
Select Reïnstall OS X, then click Continue.
Follow the onscreen instructions. In the pane where you select a disk, select your current OS X disk (in most cases, it’s the only one available).
If that did not fix the problem then it is probably a software issue.

  • What will happen to my iPhone contacts if I choose to "Delete from my iPhone" the previously synced contacts from the iCloud?

When I updated my iPhone 3GS to i06, my contacts were messed up.  Some of my contacts were lost, and one of my contacts which I had two numbers for, a new one and an old number, now only has one number and it is the old one.  So, will I get my original contacts back if I choose the "Delete from my iPhone" choice?

    Regarding the first question:
    - The contacts on my iPhone right now, due to the connection with iCloud, are numbers that came from the iCloud account (which, unfortunately is my husband's account - I didn't realize it).  Although we have some of the same people on our contacts, his, of course, contains his business contacts as well.  Before the connection, my contacts were my social contacts and my business contacts.  It looks like that not all my contacts from before the iCloud connection are there as some are missing and all of them have missing punctuation marks.  All my photos that were on the contacts of the people are missing as well.
    -  I will have to check and see if my contacts are on the iCloud account also.  Haven't checked that yet.
By the way, this all happened when I loaded the i06 update.  That's when it asked me if I wanted to store it on iCloud. And when I clicked on it, everything changed on my contacts.

  • Is this email legitimate, please?

Hi everyone, I received an email from this address
BT Yahoo! Mail team <[email protected]>
Saying that I need to upgrade my BT Yahoo! Mail. I ran this by a BT employee on the chat facility yesterday, and even after enquiries, she said that no one there recognized the 'btcomms.com' address as coming from BT. However, after a Google search I noticed that one of the mods/admin bods here says it is, so now I'm completely confused.
Would be grateful if anyone could help, please!

I have one of these emails too and I am very suspicious of any email with 'Urgent' in the title.  The email has only gone to 1 of our 3 accounts and the errors and addressing goes against BT policy.  The number errors also makes it suspect:
    [email protected]
Your Classic version of BT Yahoo! Mail is closing. [We do not use Classic]
You need to upgrade now [Note missing punctuation]
Hello, [Note not addressed to account holder]
The Classic version of BT Yahoo! Mail will be replaced by our new version on 3 June 2013. So it's time to upgrade, before you lose your email access. [Rather threatening as you do not lose access, just forced to go via new version and Outlook etc will still work]
When you upgrade your BT Yahoo! Mail
Your email service won't be affected and you'll keep all your old contacts, folders and messages. Plus you'll get:
    faster email
    the latest spam protection
unlimited email storage. [Note change in punctuation]
    How you upgrade
Click on the link below and follow the instructions. You'll also need to agree to some new terms and conditions. [Note poor English]
    Upgrade BT Yahoo! Mail
If your browser displays a message saying it won't support the new version of BT Yahoo! Mail, you'll need to update your browser (it's easy and free) then you can go on to upgrade.
    If you don't upgrade now
If you want to carry on getting your emails, you need to upgrade now, because the Classic version of BT Yahoo! Mail will stop working after 3 June.

  • Is the ExportPDF secure ?

    Hi there,
I am going to purchase the ExportPDF upgrade for my adobe reader to convert PDF documents into Word documents.
The documents are legal documents so the process needs to be secure.
However, I realize the convert is processing online rather than locally.
Please let me know if the ExportPDF would convert PDF to Word securely and what type of secure mechanism has been used.
    Many thanks,
    Brian

I understand that you are concerned about security, but when dealing with legal documents, shouldn't you also be worried about the reliability of the conversion? Nothing is 100% accurate and without this you risk the validity of the document.
What if words are garbled/missing, punctuation changed or missing. etc?
You would need to compare the original PDF with the converted document word for word.
Even the slightest change or omission could change the context of the document and inadvertently create a loophole big enough to drive a truck through it.

  • Bsod after load attempt cycdisk.sys, no error name, massive help?

okay, I have two toshibas now, lol. thanks to my first with vista getting bsod. this bsod explains np error code, and comes after loading cycdisk.sys everytime... I have tried safe mode, system repair, everything... it will not let me on for two secnds to do anything. my husband purchased this laptop less than a year ago and I don't want to toss it because of bsod, that would suck.
long story short, I just blew more cash on another laptop to get online to try and repair this older one.
I am running Vista on the old one, and still under warranty. and ideas? I don't think I have enough time in the warranty to send it anywhere for repairs... but it's less than a year old and such a waste to consider a loss. any suggestions would be helpful.
I've done all the research I can on BSOD, but none of the suggestions online help. what should I do?
pardon the missing punctuation, it's four in the morning and I am tired.
    model number: PSLB8U-027025.
    all help is appreciated.

Why wouldn't you have enough time to send it in?  If it's still under warranty the repair is covered as long as you contact Toshiba and obtain the RMA PRIOR to it expiring.  The repair doesn't have to be finished before it expires as long as the RMA Warranty Repair Process has been started.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • How can I set a password containing punctuation?

    I tried this:
    alter user <user> identified by <password>;
where <password> has punctuation. I got:
    ORA-00922: missing or invalid option
so I quoted the password and got:
    ORA-00988: missing or invalid password(s)
How do I set a password that contains punctuation? TIA.

Thank you very much. That worked fine. I think earlier I tried using single quotes instead of double quotes, and single quotes did not work.

  • Removing punctuation from the beginning and end of a string

I am working on a project for a "spell checking" program. So far the StringHash class is made, and the dictionary is read into a hash table. Then the document to be checked is specified via command line, the document scans through each word and checks to see if it is in the dictionary, if it is do nothing, if it is not then display it to console. The problem I am having is with a method in the main class. The method (I will post what I have so far) is called removePunct. The method should remove any punctuation from the beginning and the end of the string, nothing from the middle. Here is what I have so far:
    public static String removePunct(String word){
              StringBuilder wo = new StringBuilder(word);
              int x = (word.length()-1);
              if(!Character.isLetter(wo.charAt(0)))
                   wo.deleteCharAt(0);
              if(!Character.isLetter(wo.charAt(x)))
                   wo.deleteCharAt(x);
              return wo.toString();
Any help would be much appreciated, I'm pretty certain the solution is either something completely different, or something so simple that I just missed it.

The easiest way to do this is to just show you the actual file to be spell checked:
    -- outline --
This directory contains Bison skeletons: the general shapes of the
different parser kinds, that are specialized for specific grammars by
    the bison program.
Currently, there are only three supported skeletons:
    - yacc.c
It used to be named bison.simple: it corresponds to C Yacc
    compatible LALR(1) parsers.
    - lalr1.cc
Produces a C++ parser class. It is still very experimental, and not
yet supported. Please, subscribe to [email protected].
    - glr.c
A Generalized LR C parser based on Bison's LALR(1) tables.
These skeletons are the only ones supported by the Bison team.
Because the interface between skeletons and the bison program is not
finished, we are not bound to it. In particular, Bison is not
mature enough for us to consider that ``foreign skeletons'' are
    supported.

What I need the spell checker to do is read each word, and strip any beginning or ending punctuation, e.g. (c) would become c. Pretty much punctuation consists of anything that is not a letter, hence the use of isLetter. I can easily modify the method to remove all punctuation using regular expressions, but I only want the beginning and end characters removed.
    Example of words:
-yacc.c would become yacc.c and is not in the dictionary so it would be printed.

  • 'Some images are missing because they were deleted from the document'

    Hi,
I created a document in Pages v5.2 last week and have just opened it and received the following message:
'Some images are missing because they were deleted from the document'
When I try and replace the missing images I get the following message:
'The image "filename" couldn't be inserted.'
When I try and reimport the original image I get the following message:
'The image "filename" couldn't be inserted. This image is of an unsupported type.'
If I try and insert an image that was not in the document before, in the same file format, it goes in fine.
If I insert the original image into a blank Pages document it goes in no problem.
I would also like to point out that the data folder still contains lots of versions of images in the document, but does not seem to have any of the ones I am actually using, which I guess is where the problem is. However I have no idea how or why these specific images have been deleted.
Any light on how this problem has come about, and the best possible way to fix it would be greatly appreciated.
    Alex

I have Pages v5.2.2 on OS X 10.9.4. I can not reproduce your stated issues with images in this version of Pages. I don't have a solution for you. See my test in the third paragraph. If I were experiencing this behavior, I would perform a Safe Boot to clear out System caches, and try again, before kicking Pages v5+ to the curb.
The Safe Boot would be pressing and holding the shift key at boot chime, and until a horizontal progress bar shows on the screen. At the eventual login screen, after you type your password — press and hold the shift key — press the right arrow to login, and release the shift key after the Finder menu bar appears. Then reboot normally.
I have created a new document. Dragged and dropped an image into it and saved. Exited Pages. Reopening worked fine. Deleted the image, and proceeded through the following steps, punctuated by save, exit, reopen, and deliberate image removal. Different .jpg image each time. About mid-way through the following item list, I rebooted the MBA just to throw some "spin" into the process. I did not perform a Safe Boot prior to this series of tests.
    Toolbar > Media insert
Insert > Choose jpg into document
    Text Box image fill
    Shape image fill

  • Bootcamp Icon missing from system tray...

On the 1st computer (iMac) that I installed BootCamp with Win 7, I have an icon in the lower left system tray for changing the booting choice.
Today I installed BootCamp on my wife's new Mac Mini and the icon is missing from the system tray. While it was about 6 weeks ago that I put BootCamp on my iMac, I don't remember doing anything that cause the Windows system tray to display the boot choice icon for BootCamp/Win 7.
Anyone have an idea about how I can get that icon to appear on the Mac Mini.
Both systems are running Snow Leopard with the latest software.

Macaby there are two separate components of Boot Camp. First is Assistant which runs on the Mac side of things from OS X. It creates/deletes the Windows partition which is necessary to install Windows. Next the Boot Camp Panel software which is installed once you have successfully installed and are running Windows. It allows tweaking of the Apple hardware from within Windows. It is installed using the OS X disc and does not jeopardize your installed Windows OS in any way. This disc also contains the hardware driver necessary to optimize the hardware in Windows. In my experience this disc has never started via autorun so you will most likely have to locate the Boot Camp folder and run the setup.exe file manually.
Don't know how much your wife uses Windows but if it's running well enough then you may want to leave it alone. Check device manager in Windows for any red or yellow punctuation marks. This will indicate a potential driver issue in Windows. Also check the Windows Experience Index for performance issues. A 1 anywhere indicates a driver issue. If you have no driver issues and Windows is running well enough you may want to leave it at that.

  • Voice recognition in iOS7 no longer recognizes the spoken word "period" as a punctuation mark.  Any solution to this?

iOS7 changed a feature of voice recognition.
When composing message using voice recognition (not Siri, just the "microphone" icon typically in either iMessage or e-mail) the voice recognition app recognizes spoken words like "comma", "question mark" and "exclamation mark" as punctuation.  For example if you said "Hello exclamation mark how are you question mark", the voice recognition system would type "Hello!  How are you?"  This is perfect and works very well.
Prior to iOS7 it used to recognize the word "period" as well.  If you said "Hello period  how are you question mark" it would respond with: "Hello.  How are you?" Now, after the iOS7 update, if you say "Hello period how are you question mark", you get "Hello period how are you?" typed back to you.  I've tried saying "dot" instead, and it will place a dot in the text, but it doesn't recognize it as a period: "Hello.how are you?"
Is there some setting I'm missing?  Is there a different voice command to get a period?
Edit:  UPDATE.  **SOLVED**  Apparently there are two ways this can happen.  1.) UK Keyboard or 2.) UK Siri.   I did not have the English (UK) keyboard enabled - just plain "English", but I had turned on the English (UK) Siri because I thought he sounded a little like Jarvis.  Anyway, apparently, that's what did it.  As soon as I turned Siri back to English (United States) saying "period" works.  Note:  If you want to keep the UK Siri, you have to say "Full Stop" to get a period.

Thanks for the heads up!  That was driving me nuts, too.  I was using the Australian English because she sounded cuter than Siri.  "Full stop" works for Australian as well.
Now if I can just figure out why the voice to text suddenly can't understand a word or two in almost every long sentence.  It almost comical how badly the translation suddenly works.  I hope it isn't due to the Australian choice as well.  I've already gotten used to her...  : /

  • Ios8 new quick type missing on 4s

WWhen updated to 8 on my 4s it worked today it's missing how do I get it back

    Hello PERshaw55,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
You may have accidentally disabled QuickType, or swiped it off of the keyboard.  Take a look at the iOS 8 help article linked to below to see more.
As you write, QuickType uses predictive text to anticipate your next word. Tap a word to choose it, or accept a highlighted prediction by entering a space or punctuation. Reject a suggestion by tapping your original word (shown as a QuickType option with quotation marks).
Hide predictive text. Pull down QuickType suggestions. Pull them back up when you want them to reappear.
Turn off predictive text. Touch and hold or , then slide to Predictive.
If you turn off QuickType, iPhone may still correct misspellings and anticipate your next word. Accept a suggestion by entering a space or punctuation, or by tapping return. To reject a suggestion, tap the “x.” If you reject the same suggestion a few times, iPhone stops suggesting it.
    Enter text
    Take care,
    Alex H.
