ML up-to-date claim nightmare

I wanted to share with you guys my frustration and sheer displeasure with the ML up-to date program and the terrible experience I've had in dealing with Apple.
On June 16th 2012 I paid for a 13" MPB from Best Buy using the the store pickup option from their website. The machine was brand new, not open box or anything like that.
On July 25th 2012 I submitted a ML up-to-date claim with a scanned copy of my store pickup reciept and store invoice/pickup slip.
3 days later I called apple support to find out if there was an issue with my claim as I had not reiceved any e-mails. They told me to wait a few more hours as I should get something around 72 hours after submitting.
I called the next day after not getting any e-mails and an escalation was submitted, a few hours later I got this e-mail:
Receipt was not provided
Receipt is missing part number
Date of purchase is outside of the offer
I was quite confused as all of those items were on the attached reciept(s).
A second escalation was done and after a few more days of no response I called support and they advised that another escalation would be done. I was told there may have been an issue with my serial number and that I should e-mail the up-to-date department directly. I did this and after a few more days of no response and I called support and another escalation was done, this time I was told to submit a new claim. Which I did.
The next day I got this e-mail:
Receipt is missing purchase date
Receipt is missing part number
Receipt does not indicate product was paid for and received
Again, I'm left extremely confused. All of these are clearly on my reciept.
I called support again, and another escalation was done. This time I was told to attach screenshots from the Best Buy website showing my order and resubmit the claim. I did this and after 4 days of no claim approval I called again last evening. Another escalation was done, now I am being told that my claim is being denied since there is no serial number on my reciept. Unless I can supply a reciept with a serial number the claim will continue to be denied. I called my local Best Buy and they told me that they don't track or print serial numbers for most products, and certainly not for laptops. Apple is adamant that Best Buy should be tracking serial numbers and have told me to contact Best Buy corporate. At this point I'm asking my self if all these phone calls and e-mails is worth $20 for an upgrade.
This is where things get silly, the support person then advises me as an FYI that since I don't have a serial number (the box and the machine are not acceptable proof) I may be denied warranty service depending on the purchase date that Apple has in their system (which could be any date). So I may potentially end up with only 6 months of warranty rather than a year. This changes the complexion of things drastically since they are basically saying that I can't prove WHEN I actually purchased the product.
I'm going to try reaching out to Apple corporate office today as this is easily the worst customer service experience I have ever had with any company of any kind. I must have spent atleast 7 hours on the phone with apple (maybe 10-12 calls). I still have about a week to return the machine to Best Buy and I'm giving this serious thought at this point. I've never felt so frustrated before and almost embarassed to even have purchased this machine to be quite honest. The 30 day period to claim the ML upgrade is approaching and I have wasted far too much time going back and forth with Apple.
Has anyone else had a similar experience like this and were you required to furnish a reciept with a serial number on it ?

Called Apple corproate today and they provided a bit of clarification on the serial number issue. Apparently, serial numbers on reciepts are not required for warranty service or for the up-to-date program. The date of purchase on the reciepts I provided SHOULD have been sufficient. Apparently I was given misinformation by the Apple support department.
Furthermore, I was advised that corporate can do nothing to help me and that I will now have it wait it out while it goes through "the up-to-date process". While expressing some surprise that the claim had not yet been filled the gentleman on the phone advised that there was nothing he could do to assist me at this time. No exceptions.
Tomorrow makes 3 weeks that I have been waiting through "the process". This is my first interaction with Apple though I've owned a few of their products over the past decade. This is pathetic.
At this point its not even about the **** $20 software, its about principle and not feeling so helpless as a custtomer.
I got an iPod Touch and Apple TV as birthday gifts a couple weeks ago and I have been really itching to try out Airplay, but if no upgrade code is forthcoming by EOD Thursday all three are being returned to Best Buy.

• OSX Mountain Lion Up-to-date claim validation mail not yet received

I live in India. I bought an iMac from a Apple Reseller on 23rd June 2012 which qualifies me for the free upgrade to OSX Mountain Lion. I filled out the form, entered all the details correctly (though in the last step Apple didn't give an option to select country as India, but I filled the form anyways) and was given a Claim Reference Number.
It's 2nd day today and I haven't received any email regarding the redemption code. What's going on?

Oh well well.. just 30 minutes after I posted the above question, I got the validation email. Now let's see if the code actually works.

• OS 7.6 data recovery nightmare

Hello,
I have a problem I can't seem to solve:
I have a system 7.6 formatted 1.2gb quantum fireball HD which appears to have been initialized (or the directories are corrupt somehow). On this drive are a number of simpletext files that contain research data. I have connected this drive via a PCI SCSI port to a g4 macintosh running OS 10.4, and have been able to run various file scavenging applications on the bad drive. No physical damage is detected by any of these programs (R-studio, Virtual Lab, Data Rescue II, File Salvage).
The problem is, these file recovery programs all 'see' the files, but when I recover them they are gibberish.
I have read that HFS uses a dual fork method of storage and that perhaps these recovery applications are unable to connect the resource fork with the data fork for any given file, and thus I am getting gibberish upon performing the recovery process.
Any help or insight would be much appreciated.

elderboy79,
The number one problem is the automatic rebuilding of the desktop that occurs when you move a drive from an old OS to a new OS and back. Zip disk files are very susceptible to modification by auto desktop rebuilding between systems.
I take a disk or drive to OS 9.x before moving it to an OS X computer. Typically, a flash drive from the 9 machine to the X machine works best. OS 8.1 to X has also worked OK.
Disk Warrior software will clean up directory mishaps, too.
If you have a dual boot G4, boot into 9 and try reading your 7.6 hard drive. Hopefully, you have backup copies that can be read on the original 7.6 Mac and new copies made for transfer to a newer intermediate OS Machine.

• HT5694 When a Ipad is registered the "Valid Puchase Date" is checked. It says this enables Apple to locate and update your device.Question, when Ipad is stolen Apple should be able to locate the Ipad??? How many Iproduct owners would pay for this service?

Valid Purchase Date claims to find and upgrade your device. Why when stolen cant they find it????

All the thief has to do is turn off your location services and the you can not track it, even with the new update you can lock your iCloud but you still can't lock the location services. Thief throws the useless apple device away because you erase and lock your device, and you are out $300 - $3000 cause you still can't track your device!

• Data Usage Details, Billing Concerns

Hey All,
I just finished my first month on the 200MB data plan, trying to save myself $15 a month, and have been looking over my bill that details my data usage. There's something extremely wrong with the reported data usage, and I'd like to get to the bottom of it. I have an iPhone 4.
Focusing on just the data usage over 1MB, there's a ton of reported data usage at times when I would have either been asleep or on a wi-fi network. In fact the majority of usage reports over 1MB fall into one of those two categories. How could there be 10MB of data sent while I am asleep and my iPhone is within 5 feet of the wi-fi router? And what on earth could be? I have my mobileme email and exchange work email set to push, but neither should account for more than 500kb of messages in the middle of the night, even if I weren't on wi-fi, or asleep.
I try to limit my actual data usage outside of wi-fi networks to RSS feeds an email, a habit I got into from my iPhone 3G days which was so painfully slow I wouldn't want to wait for a full website to load. So how I'm even coming close to using 200MB a month is a mystery to me (120MB reported data usage last month). Using the latest reports only, as I know for sure where I was the past three days, none of these data claims should be on my bill:
07/24 (Sun) 1:28AM - 1.6MB (I was at home asleep with the iPhone on left 2ft from the wi-fi router)
07/23 (Fri) 8:24M - 2.7MB (at home getting ready for work, connected to wi-fi)
So what's going on? It's not like I can stop using data I'm not using. Thanks for reading.

Thanks Lawrence. I called Apple and they offered no explanation for why the iPhone wasn't maintaining it's wi-fi connection, and the closest thing to a solution they had for me was suggesting I manually enable and disable cellular data as I enter and leave areas with a wi-fi connection...ridiculous.
I've gone through my bill in its entirety, and 75.35MB were sent/received in the morning before I left for work or the night before while I was asleep, when the iPhone should have been connected to my wi-fi network. That's 44% of my entire data usage for the month! (my total data usage for the month was 170MB, not the 120MB I reported earlier).
For the first 10 days of my billing cycle I had an iPhone 3G running iOS 4, so I don't believe this issue is specific to the iPhone 4 hardware (which is what I've been using for the past 25 days).

I used th Mountain Lion up to date program to redeem my code yesterday (25th July) but I still haven't got any email or anything. Is anyone else having the same problem?

Same here...plopped down >$2700 USD on a new Retina MBP a few weeks ago with the promise of a free upgrade to ML when it was released. Now, I have no doubts that I'll get the upgrade but I'm not crazy about having to wait behind scads of others who are shelling out a mere $20 bucks.
I was given the same 72 hour speech by Apple Customer Support. With my Up-To-Date claim reference number in hand, it seems like they would/could provide an instant turn-around to those of us who are excited/eager enough to call in.
Apple does a lot of things right but people...especially the clientele that gravitate toward Apple products...expect excellence across the board. It's like a "nearly" perfect date....beautiful night...best table in the restaurant...delicious dinner with a fabulous bottle of wine...your date is smokin' hot in a little black dress. On the way back to her place, she unbuckles her seatbelt and leans across with a hand towards your leg and then lets a gigantic, tear-demanding **** that makes you want to gag. The next day somebody asks, "How was your date?"

• Still haven't received my redemption code for OSX lion from the up-to-date program. Expresslane no help at all :(

Title pretty much sums my problem up. I have seen other threads on this topic but without actual reslolution.
I have spoken with and e-mailed express lane mac app store people and they have been little or no help, now refering me to technical support...
Please help anyone!

Thanks for your input DS store.
I have a brand new Macbook Pro 15" 2.2 GHz, and was purchased within the up-to-date OSX Lion free upgrade period.
I use my mac primarily for basic things: Web, music, socialising. If some more advanced programs wont work on Lion yet i'm not really concerned. I do most of my serious business on my beast mode PC

• Logic needed urgent

Hi Friends,
I need logic (code for the following requirement.

Hi,
define internal table
It_bseg with fields BURKS, BELNR,GJAHR, BUZEI and other field (look the output fields).
it_bkpf with fields BURKS, BELNR,GJAHR anmd other required fields.
it_lfa1 with fields LIFNR and NAME1.
NOw
SELECT BURKS, BELNR,GJAHR ,<other required fileds>
into table it_bkpf from BKPF
where BUKRS in/= <selectionscreen-burks>
and bladt in/= <selectionscreen--bladt>.
If it_bkpf[] is not initial.
select BURKS, BELNR,GJAHR, BUZEI and other fields
into table it_bseg from bseg
for all entries in it_bkpf
where burks = it_bkpf-burks
and belnr = it_bkpf-belnr
and gjahr = it_bkpf-gjahr
and ZFBDT in/= <selection screen ZFBDT>
endif.
Now
select lifnr name1 from lfa1 into it_lfa1
where lifnr in <selection scfreen lifnr>.
YOu have three tables now..
you can loop at 1st table get the output fields put in into work area

• Ideas for huge text area

Our Document Control person catalogs documents in a form I've created. We are a spice manufacturer (ahhhh, but alas, I can't smell them anymore while here! ) In one text area on the form she lists associated items, for example PL-1234 is a pallet layout for all of our jars, so that text area for document PL-1234 might have eighty item numbers, each five or six chars listed in the field. In addition, there are verification sheets, assembly instructions, work instructions, all catalogued, and all with that associated items field holding many many many item numbers. Production workers on the floor then will enter the item number that they are making for the day and a list of all the documents they need for producing the item will display in an interactive report, where they will then call up those they need (touch screens to boot!!).
I've never liked this solution but she wanted to be able to copy and paste into the list from another source [WARNING WARNING DATA CONSISTENCY NIGHTMARE!! - spaces, dashes, commas, yeah yeah, I know]. Recently, when we did a version upgrade, I realized I had truncated the field when I exported to Excel and the text area got chopped (thankfully less than ten and easily fixable), not at exactly 1024 chars, but something in that random neighborhood. Before you fall off your chair laughing or roll your eyes at my naiveté-learn-as-I-go education, I'm looking for another way to handle this clump of data.
I have collections on the form, which was how I wanted to handle this a few years ago when I created it, then she'd have to enter those items manually, and the potential of inaccuracies is huge. So I'm thinking I should just continue to let her enter those items in the same manner, then reformat it and plunk it into a table that joins to the document table.
I apologize for not having the jargon. I hope this makes sense. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you see fit.
Alexandra
Application Express 4.2.2.00.11
Edit 1
Not only the above, but in the interactive report, as far as I've always known, that associated items field must be visible on the interactive report with allllllllllllll those items listed for it to be searched by the production floor. Please advise.
Edit 2
Just an example of the bald spots on my head: 430922 42181 <- 42182 <- 42183 <- 42184 <- 42186 <- 42188 <- 42190 <- 42192 <- 42194 <-

4000 characters is the limit you should be seeing, not 1024 (unless that is the size of the column in your table)
There is a DB Parameter for 12c that should jump that up to 32k
If it really is a 4000 character limit, there is a plugin that can help out: - Dynamic Action Plugin - Enkitec CLOB Load
I can't advise you on the 1st edit. not enough info (a 'sample' on apex.oracle.com would be nice)
For processing, you'll need to read a lot of fantastically written manuals:
use (??does apex have something)/UTL_URL to change HTML code like "<" into "<"
you may need to use DBMS_LOB and LOOP over the CLOB in 4000 byte chunks.
use REGEXP_REPLACE to add hair back to your head (ie convert commas and spaces to single tab, remove nonsense characters, etc.)
use APEX_UTIL.string_to_table() to convert the entries in a table-like format.
make sure that the above is reusable as you'll want to use it once for Validation and once for Processing
use FORALL to professionally bulk-insert the results into a child table
use LISTAGG in your SELECT statements to convert the Relational version of the data back into something that looks like what was entered.
use CREATE PACKAGE so you don't go insane in the future. This is a lot of code to write.
use SQL Developer to actually develop the PL/SQL code
use a code repository like SVN so you can 'rollback' your new-and-imporved-but-buggy versions.
and, most importantly, use sufficient comments and APEX_DEBUG.MESSAGE() in your code so that future developers can pickup where you stopped.

• Is there a formula to count unique entries in a range of cells, and possible ignore certain predefined entries

I would like to create a formula to accomplish a task, I am not sure how to do it.
Basically, I will have cells A1-A31, with 1 corresponding with a day of the month.
Each cell A1-A31 will contain HEX data, in the form of a name (ie: John Smith) I would like another cell such as A5 to count the unique entries within the range of A1-A31.
If I can be pointed in the right direction, I can figure out for corresponding cells.
Basically it will look like this (plus other calculations, I already achieved)
DATE NAME TOTAL_CASES
1 John Smith 1
2 John Smith 1
3 Roxy Jones 2
4 Huang Nguyen 3
5 Huang Nguyen 3
6 Bradly Katz 4
7 Linda Schutlz 5
8 off 5 <--- possible addition step of ignoring "off"
9 Julie Dawgie 6
Additionally, if there is a way to count the "unique entries" in the given range, it it possible to IGNORE an item, such as the word "off" and/or "vacation?

The formula only appears to count the total number of "Y", but should be ignoring a second "Y" for that name.

• Mapping Warranty process in SD

Dear Experts,
I am bit confused in mapping warranty process with help of Billing plan in SD. As i thought of we can do with the help of billing plan.
" The dealer may raise claim ( based on valid warranty) for the spare parts which are non-returnable and damaged , for which Company will raise the credit memo request (based on the billing reference) and credit memo (with 50% of the claim released on the same day as claim punching and rest 50% ONLY after 90 days )"
Can any one do help me int this please
With Thanks &Regards
Aswin Nair

Dear Aswin,
As per my understanding of your requirement, the credit memo request is created with reference to the orginal billing document.
Hence there has to be a copy control between your invoice type and credit memo request type.
(if the credit memo request need to be created only with a reference, then check reference mandatory in VOV8 of your credit memo request'
Since the materials are non-returnable and damaged, it can be assumed that there will not be any return delivery in your case.
So the credit memo request should have a copy control setting with the credit memo in VTFA.
The 50 % -50 % can be achieved by using a milestone billing plan in which the second billing date in the reference billing plan will be 90 days after the first billing date/ credit memo creation date (claim punching date).
Please try this out and let us know.

• Testing PLSQL code

Hi guys
I working on project where in Oracle9i database there are 90 table and near about 200 triggers,Procedures and functions. My problem is I have to write test cases for all the triggers,Procedures and functions and give them to the Testerso that they can test it.Can Anybody tell me how to do that
Thanks in Advance
Vikramjit

This is not an Oracle thing, this is a general thing.
Rule 1: don't look at the code!
The testers should be considering whether the delivered application satisfies the requirements. Consequently, you need test cases to test what the developers should have written, not what they actually have written. Depending on how low-level your requirements go, you will need one or more test cases for each requirement.
Let's take an example. The application is an insurance claim system. The user requirement to be tested is "the system must print out cheques".
Okay, so we have a piece of system functionality that takes a claims number and optionally an amount; if the user enters an amount the printed cheque is for that amount, otherwise the cheque is for the full amount of the claim. If the cheque is for a partial amount, the amount due must be reduced according. The printed cheque must not exceed the amount due. The cheque printing routine must be able to handle the maximum allowable claim. Finally, remember to look after the pennies when drawing up your test data.
From that the following test cases suggest themselves.
Test Data
Claim No. 1234 for $850.00:
Claim No. 5678 for $850.00:
Claim No. 8888 for $888.88:
Claim No. 9999 for $99999999999999999999999999999.99:
1) Claim No = 1234, amount=100 => result is printed cheque for $100.00
2) Claim No = 1234, amount=null => result is printed cheque for $750.00
3) Claim No = 1234, amount=null => result is properly handled error, claim already paid
4) Claim No = 1234, amount=100 => result is properly handled error, claim already paid
5) Claim No = 5678, amount=0 => result is properly handled error, invalid amount
6) Claim No = 5678, amount=1000 => result is properly handled error, invalid amount
7) Claim No = 5678, amount=-100 => result is properly handled error, invalid amount
8) Claim No = 5678, amount=null => result is printed cheque for $850.00
9) Claim No = 3456, amount=100 => result is properly handled error, invalid claim no
10) Claim No. 9999, amount=null => result is printed cheque for $99999999999999999999999999999.99
11) Claim No = 8888, amount=444.44 => result is printed cheque for $444.44
12) Claim No = 8888, amount=null => result is printed cheque for $444.44
Notes
You will notice that some of these tests must be performed in a specific order. For instance, if you do test 2) before test 1) the expected results are different. However, it doesn't matter if you run test 10) before test 1). Also you have to be on top of your data: you need to know that there isn't a claim 3456 in order for test 10) to pass.
Once you've got beyond this sort of unit testing you need to think about how this requirement meshes with other requirements: for instance, "Cheques can only be printed by authorised users" and "Cheques can only be printed after a claim has had a pay-out authorised".
And so on. By now you may be thinking "This is like writing a program". If that is what you're thinking give yourself a gold star. Wouldn't it be nice if there was a programming language available that would allow you to write these test scripts and run them automatically? You're in luck. You only have to test the database - stored procedures and triggers - so you can use UTPLSQL. This is an open source test harness written in PL/SQL by saint in human form, Steven Feuerstein. It's fantastic. I advise you to check it out: http://utplsql.sourceforge.net/
Using a test harness like UTPLSQL requires some knowledge of the code, specifically which procedures implement which requirements and the signatures of those public procedures. That's all. Testing triggers is done by inserting/updating/deleting rows into the tables and then querying them. UTPLSQL can help with that too.
Good luck, APC

• Using HRALXSYNC to create internal candidates for E-REC

Hi Experts,
I have a question regarding the use of HRALXSYNC. We have E-REC installed on our ERP system. Security concerns have already been addressed.
I understand that I need to run HRALXSYNC to create internal candidates. When I first run this program, it shows a red light beside the employee number. I then click the CP line and click the repair button to create the internal candidate. The lights then turn all green.
Is this correct? In order to create internal candidates I need to use the repair function for every employee from HRALXSYNC?
Also, going forward, do I need to run this report for every new employee hired and perform the repair act to turn them into internal candidates?
Thanks in advance.
Shane LaBonte

Hi Shane,
e-recruiting only copies the user group assignment and the licence data of the referene user to the internal candidate. This is documented in Note 1324887 - User group and LicenceData of int. or ext. reference users. This note was SAPs solution to a customner requirement that there is no possibility to specify the user group for crating users for candidates e.g. in IMG.
As this was originally developed for the old ALE I can't tell if the HRALXSYNC mechanism which is now used together with ALE for EhP 4 also in the standalone scenarion has been enhanced accordingly.
The password for the user is generated and therefore "unknown" for security reasons. If sap would generate a standard password someone could just use it to access any account as long the internal candidates have not used it for an application and changed it. This would be a data security nightmare.
There are two different standard scenarios to handle this. In a system landscape with single sign on users use their password for the SSO lead system / repository and the password on the e-recruitng system does not matter. If there is no single sign on internal candidates use the "request password" link on the login screen to get their password.
Kind Regards

• Still haven't recieved my OSX Mountain Lion code (110 hours)

I requested my redemption code on the day Mountain Lion was released and I still have not recieved it 5 days (approx. 110 hours) later.
When I spoke to apple 3 days ago they said I would recieve it within 24 hours, bu they are allowed 72 hours from the time of request.
So when can I expect it, Im getting really dissapointed with Apple not living up to thier promises.
