MO_GLOBAL.SET_ORG_ACCESS being pragma autonomous trxn
Hi,
I was going through the package body of MO_GLOBAL. I could understand how SET_POLICY_CONTEXT, INIT, etc etc works and the way they set the g_access_mode, g_current_org_id etc etc .But my question is on MO_GLOBAL.SET_ORG_ACCESS which is used to set the access mode to M.
Seems MO_GLOBAL.SET_ORG_ACCESS is pragma autonomous Transaction. So how is it paossible for MO_GLOBAL.SET_ORG_ACCESS to set the acess mode etc of the session from which it is called from? However the other procedures in the package viz SET_POLICY_CONTEXT, INIT etc are not Pragma Autonomous Trxn.
My question is...... suppose, I am logged into an Oracle session and from there I execute MO_GLOBAL.SET_ORG_ACCESS(null,2062, 'AR'); MO_GLOBAL.SET_ORG_ACCESS being pragma autonomous transaction how can it set the session variables for the session from which I am logged in?
Please through some light to make my understanding better.
QN:- When a procedure/function/session calls a Autonomous trxn procedure, will both the calling and called blocks share the same session? I was thinking both have different sessions.
Thanks
Autonomous transaction clause will initiate an independent transaction , not new session as per below test case.
DECLARE
PROCEDURE A
AS
pragma autonomous_transaction;
BEGIN
dbms_output.put_line ( 'Inside Autonomous transaction My session id ' || sys_context ( 'USERENV' , 'SID' ) ) ;
ROLLBACK;
END ;
BEGIN
dbms_output.put_line ( 'My session id ' || sys_context ( 'USERENV' , 'SID' ) ) ;
a;
dbms_output.put_line ( 'Outside Autonomous transaction My session id ' || sys_context ( 'USERENV' , 'SID' ) ) ;
END;
OUTPUT :
My session id 531
Inside Autonomous transaction My session id 531
Outside Autonomous transaction My session id 531

What is pragma autonomous transaction
Pragma Autonomous transaction:-
-- When ever we commit.. all the transactions before the last commit in that session get saved. Suppose that if we hav a senario & we jst want a particular transaction only 2 be save. Inorder to achive that we make this as a seperate transaction which can b commited but prior to this the txns are not commit.
eg:
being
insert into tab1 () values ();
update tab2 set values.. some more stmts..
pragma sutonomus transaction
insert into tab3 values();
commit;
here.. insert into tab3 is only commited & saved but not tab1 and tab2.
Pls let me know if this correct approach to build the Pl/SqlBetter yet, here's the section of the manual:

Whats the use of having pragma autonomous transaction
Hii All,
The below is the procedure developed by our predecessors.We are making use of this for writing our debug messages.
I'm aware of pragma autonomous transaction ,this allows my code to run independently of the calling program.
But here we are just using utl_File and we are neither using any DML(Inserting error messages into a table) or DDL statements in the below code.
What is real use of having pragma autonomous transaction.???This code is working in the same way even without the pragma...I dont' find any difference .
Please let me know the use of having pragma autonomous transaction in the below procedure and where it actually comes into usage.
Create or replace Procedure logmesg
p_file_name in varchar2,
p_mesg_text in varchar2,
p_dir_path in varchar2 default fn_get_debug_path,
p_file_ext in varchar2 default 'log',
p_append_flag in varchar2 default 'Y'
) Is
pragma autonomous_transaction;
l_utl_file utl_file.file_type;
l_append_flag varchar2(1);
l_mesg_text varchar2(32000);
l_file_name varchar2(3000);
l_dir_path varchar2(32000);
l_delimeter_occurance number;
l_buffer_str varchar2(32000);

l_dir_path := fn_get_debug_path ;
else
l_dir_path := p_dir_path;
end if;
l_mesg_text := p_mesg_text;
l_append_flag := nvl(p_append_flag,'Y');
l_file_name := p_file_name||'_'||to_char(sysdate,'ddmmyyyyhh')||'.'||p_file_ext;
l_append_flag := Case l_append_flag
When 'Y' then 'a'
When 'N' then 'w'
End;--l_append_flag
Begin
l_utl_file := utl_file.fopen(l_dir_path,l_file_name,l_append_flag);
Exception
When Others Then
l_utl_file := utl_file.fopen(l_dir_path,l_file_name,'w');
End;
if dbms_lob.getlength(l_mesg_text) > 32000 then
loop
exit when dbms_lob.getlength(l_mesg_text) < 32000;
l_delimeter_occurance := dbms_lob.instr(l_mesg_text,chr(32),1,1);
l_buffer_str := dbms_lob.substr(l_mesg_text,l_delimeter_occurance-1);
utl_file.put_line(l_utl_file,l_buffer_str);
l_mesg_text := dbms_lob.substr(l_mesg_text,l_delimeter_occurance+1);
utl_file.fflush(l_utl_file);
end loop;
end if;
utl_file.put_line(l_utl_file,l_mesg_text);
utl_file.fflush(l_utl_file);
utl_file.fclose(l_utl_file);
End logmesg;
/HerePlease let me know the use of having pragma autonomous transaction in the below procedure and where it actually comes into usage.Seems it is redundant in that procedure, and doesn't add any value, since the procedure isn't doing anything 'transactional'.
I would remove it. -
Capture event oracle.apps.wf.notification.receive.message
Hi,
I am trying to capture the event oracle.apps.wf.notification.receive.message.
Whenever system receives an email response of a notification, I want to insert some values to a table.
I have created subscription on this event and calling a package procedure which inserts the data into table.
Now, If I test the event from the business events screen itself, subscription is working (i.e. inserting the data into table).
However, when I am replying a notification, I can see that event is fired (from system administratoin->workflow->agent activity), but values are not being inserted in the table.
My package procedure has pragma autonomous transaction and commit.
Also, I have tried various combinations of event being Local or external.
Any thoughts why the subscription is not coming in action?
Thanks,
Abdul WahidOne Update.
I tried to fire some different event and registered this function with that.
Its working with this event.
Does that mean that oracle.apps.wf.notification.receive.message event is not being fired? -
Hi,
I have a requirement to display a page with a certain region when a link is clicked. I imported this region from the server. I created a new page and created a region in this page and added the contents of the imported region to this region and set all the properties accordingly. But when i move it to the server and create a function and associate it with a menu and try to access it, i get an error page saying "You have encountered an error. Please contact the system administrator". Could someone please help me with what the issue might be.
Regards,
ShreyasHi,
I have set all that. It seems to be a problem with Mozilla Firefox. Anyways, i tried accessing the same page through IE and i was able to get the error message. The error details is as below.

Call procedure2 from procedure1 "in background"
Hi all,
my need is to call procedure2 from procedure1 "in background". What I mean... Let's say, procedure2 works about 10 seconds. So, procedure1 should call procedure2 and go on working without waiting for procedure2 to end its work.
How do I perform it? Is it possible at all? My thought was to use pragma autonomous transaction, am I right?marco wrote:

How do I perform it? Is it possible at all? My thought was to use pragma autonomous transaction, am I right?No. Pragma Autonomous Transaction sets up a seperate transaction for the code in that procedure, though it will still have to complete that procedure before control is returned to the calling code.
To call procedure2 from procedure1 but not have to wait for procedure 2 to finish, you would use DBMS_SCHEDULER (or DBMS_JOB if you don't want any current transaction committed), to schedule the procedure to be run immediately. This causes the scheduled task to run in it's own right without being a part of the current session.

Facing a problem while doing DML Operations in Discoverer (Urgent!!)
Hi,
I am facing a problem in one of the discoverer report i am working on. I would appreciate if you could help me to to find a solution for this -
I am triggering a custom package from the Discoverer. This package is inserting the data in a custom table. As we can not directly put the DML statements in the discoverer 's package so i have defined that package as the Pragma Autonomous. The custom table that is being populated is a regular table (i.e not a Global temporary table). In the custom folder in Administrator i am just selecting the data from that custom table.
Problem- When i run the report from discoverer, the data is getting inserted into the custom table, that means the package is working properly but still the report does not show any data. May be the query being executed even before the data is inserted into the table. Can you please suggest what is that i am missing in this solution?
Few facts of the report-
1. I am using only one worksheet.
2. The package is inserting the data in the custom table so i don't see any problem with the package and triggering it.
Thanks for your help.
-AnshulHi Michael,
This is not really an update. The functionality of the report is simple - Based on the parameters selected in the report, the package will get the data from queries and insert into the table. now the data in the table can be different for different users based on the parameters. what my concern was,
Consider a case of 2 users using this report almost at the same time.
We are not using the temporary table so we will have to truncate the table every time the report is ran, before inserting the new data in it.
Now suppose user -A runs the report and during it processing the 2nd user runs it with some different parameters. Then the 1st user's data will be deleted from the table.
does it sound right?
I was trying to achieve this functionality by using following functionality but here also i am facing a problem -
Now i am not inserting the data in the table but i have created a view that does the same thing as it was done by package in the previous case. and in order to pass the parameters in the view i am using set_context. I have created a package that is triggered by discoverer report and in that package i am setting the context. now i am facing the following problems -
a. Does the Set_context set the context globally?
b. Do i need to clear the context at the completion of report?
c. If the answer of the question - b is yes then where can i place that clear_context in the discoverer?
Thank you so much for your help.
thanks

After Update Trigger not triggering for first update
Hi All,
I have written a Trigger on AP_SUPPLIERS table to update AP_SUPPLIER_SITES_ALL when payment priority gets updated on AP_SUPPLIERS table. Trigger calls a pragma autonomous procedure after update happens, and updates sites table. We are on R12 (12.1.3) with DB 11.2.0.3.0
Somehow this is not working for the first update, after that for every update it is working. Any idea why this might be happening?
Trigger Code:
CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER XX_AP_SUPPLIER_SIT_UPD_SYNC
AFTER UPDATE
ON AP.AP_SUPPLIERS
REFERENCING NEW AS NEW OLD AS OLD
FOR EACH ROW
DECLARE
l_vendor_id NUMBER;
l_paym_priority NUMBER;
BEGIN
XX_AP_SUPSITE_UPDATE(:NEW.PAYMENT_PRIORITY, :NEW.VENDOR_ID);
EXCEPTION
WHEN OTHERS THEN
RAISE;
END XX_AP_SUPPLIER_SIT_UPD_SYNC;
Procedure Code:
CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE APPS.XX_AP_SUPSITE_UPDATE (p_payment_priority IN NUMBER,p_vendor_id IN NUMBER) AS
PRAGMA AUTONOMOUS_TRANSACTION;
ex_custom EXCEPTION;
PRAGMA EXCEPTION_INIT( ex_custom, -20001 );
BEGIN
UPDATE AP_SUPPLIER_SITES_ALL
SET PAYMENT_PRIORITY =p_payment_priority
WHERE VENDOR_ID = p_vendor_id;
COMMIT;
EXCEPTION
WHEN OTHERS THEN
raise_application_error( -20001, 'Error while updating payment priority on Site '||SQLERRM );
END XX_AP_SUPSITE_UPDATE;Thanks for your replies Saubhik/VT,
now my trigger is compiled. but is not triggering. pl help me to resolve .....

Hi,
I have table TEMP AS (SNO NUMBER,
STATE VARCHAR2(50),
UPDATE_DATE DATE)
I want to create trigger on this table like whenever there is update in STATE of temp table UPDATE_DATE columns get updated.
I am trying to create trigger using PRAGMA Autonomous transaction but it is not working with this and withouht PRAGMA.
With PRAGMA I am getting error "ORA-00060: deadlock detected while waiting for resource".
Is it possible to create trigger on this table for updating columns of same table.
Edited by: user6040008 on Dec 11, 2012 1:08 AMHi,
This is not valid forum for questions like that. Please use {forum:id=75} forum. However you can use following code:
create or replace trigger xx
before update of state
on cabasys.temp
for each row
begin
:new.update_date := sysdate;
end; Edited by: kikolus on 2012-12-11 10:40 -
Using user-defined record as a parameter?
I defined a record and passed it as a parameter to a procedure. How do I declare it in the procedure? The same problem occurs with cursor-defined records:
create procedure update
as begin
declare
cursor tbl_csr is select col1, col4
from table_with_15_cols;
begin
for csr in tbl_csr
LOOP
p_upd_ins_tbl (csr, ind);
end Loop;
end;
end;
create procedure p_upd_ins_tbl (in_csr IN ?type?,
in_ind IN char)
as pragma AUTONOMOUS TRANSACTION
begin
if in_ind = 'i' then
insert into tbl2
( tbl2.col1,
tbl2.col2,
tbl2.col3,
tbl2.col4 )
values
( in_csr.col1,
NULL,
in_csr.col4,
sysdate );
else
update tbl2
set tbl2.col1 = in_csr.col1,
tbl2.col3 = in_csr.col4;
end if;
commit;
end;
I tried defining in_csr as a record type defined in the p_upd_ins_tbl proc, but got an error as undefined. A also tried defining in_csr as varchar2 and setting a locally defined record type to it, but got a type mis-match on the assignment.
The documentation I found said a DBLINK loop is needed, but I cannot find how to implement that.
Any thoughts?Also try
table_with_15_cols%ROWTYPEForget what I said, since you are (rightly) not using
SELECT * FROM table_with_15_cols; -
How to get around ora-ORA-04091: table SSBOSS.SSTRMAST is mutating, trigger
hi,
Does anyone know how one would get around this problem please ?
Here is my dbase trig:
CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER SSBOSS.new_not_greater_than_net
BEFORE INSERT OR UPDATE OF newrent ON SSBOSS.SSTRMAST
REFERENCING NEW AS new OLD AS old
FOR each row
DECLARE
not_permitted EXCEPTION;
vnum number := ssboss.nik_f;
BEGIN
IF :new.NEWRENT > vnum then

RAISE not_permitted;
END IF;
EXCEPTION
WHEN not_permitted THEN
RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR
(-20001, 'NEWRENT:'||:new.newrent||' '||'OLDRENT:'||' '||:old.netrent||'Action not permitted. Contribution (sstrmast.newrent) value '
||:new.NEWRENT
||' exceeds GROSS rental value (sstrmast.netrent) ');
END;
Here is my problem:
SQL> update sstrmast set newrent = 11;
update sstrmast set newrent = 11
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-04091: table SSBOSS.SSTRMAST is mutating, trigger/function may not see it
ORA-06512: at "SSBOSS.NIK_F", line 4
ORA-06512: at "SSBOSS.NEW_NOT_GREATER_THAN_NET", line 4
ORA-04088: error during execution of trigger 'SSBOSS.NEW_NOT_GREATER_THAN_NET'
I understand why but not how to correct?
Thanks,
nikolia.Hello,
This problem as you might be knowing occurs when you try to select the data from the same table on which the trigger is written. Also this problem is only with the row level trigger and not with the statement level trigger. However the limitation of the statement level trigger is it can not refer to :NEW or :OLD. So now the solution is to capture the value of :NEW or :OLD in the row level trigger (no select statement here) and store it in some global variable. And how do you get the global variable? Using package specification ! a variable declared in a package specification is global in nature. Then use the value so stored in the statement level trigger in the select statement. It will work. Other solution is to use pragma autonomous transaction. Try and let us know. All the best.

How OSB pass Initial Context parameters to EJB
For security reasons I have to pass a ticket (through initial context) to legacy system from OSB for calling EJB, below is a code
Hashtable env = new Hashtable(2);
env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory");
env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, connectionUrl);
env.put(javax.naming.Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, ticket);
env.put(javax.naming.Context.SECURITY_CREDENTIALS, "");
InitialContext ctx = new InitialContext(env);
Object homeRef = ctx.lookup("com.cih.services.contact.interfaces.IContactServiceRemote");
IContactServiceRemoteHome home = (IContactServiceRemoteHome) javax.rmi.PortableRemoteObject
.narrow(homeRef, IContactServiceRemoteHome.class);
IContactServiceRemote ejb = home.create();
Please let me know how we can pass Initial context parameter from Business service or proxy service to legacy system.
ThanksHi Russ
Yes, I've done this too. Basic SQL though will not allow the updating of a table inside a function, so we have to get clever. The trick is to use the PRAGMA AUTONOMOUS TRANSACTION command. Here's an example:
FUNCTION UPDATE_MYTABLE(P_VALUE IN NUMBER)
RETURN VARCHAR2 IS
PRAGMA AUTONOMOUS_TRANSACTION;
BEGIN
UPDATE SCHEMA_OWNER.MY_TABLE SET MY_VALUE = P_VALUE;
COMMIT;
RETURN('Done');
END UPDATE_TABLE;
When the update has been completed the Discoverer worksheet will respond with 'Done'.
Everyone: don't forget to grant EXECUTE on this function to all of the necessary users, including the EUL owner, and also don't forget to import the function using the Admin edition so that it is available for the users. You will also need to make sure that all necessary users have been granted the UPDATE privilege on the table.
I hope this helps
Regards
Michael
