Mobile phone enabling APEX 2.2.1?

Hi there.
One of the clients for a project I'm working on has asked about mobile-enabling an application we're buliding in APEX 2.2.1. Specifically he mentioned WAP-enabling the site, but looking at the larger picture I think the feature would be better focused on setting up some sort of way for BlackBerry and PocketPC phone users to access the site. I've got a number of questions associated with this:
- Am I correct in my assumption that all recent BlackBerry models and Pocket Internet Explorer versions will display pretty much any XHTML document? If so, is there a way to guarantee that APEX 2.2.1 will always generate an XHTML-compliant HTML doc? (I've got plenty of sw dev experience, but am relatively new to APEX, so forgive me if I'm asking a really basic question there.)
- What about WAP? I haven't found anything that says APEX will generate WML pages, so I'm assuming that it won't. (Please correct me if I'm wrong.)
- I've found a couple of HTML-to-WML converters online. If we need to push WML to a WAP browser and APEX won't support WAP, is there a way to decouple the process of APEX generating HTML content and Apache pushing the content to client browsers? My thought process is that if we need to push WAP content out, I could try to go APEX 2.2.1 -> HTML file output from APEX -> 3rd party HTML-to-WAP converter -> WML file output from converter -> Apache -> client browser. I know that Apache can be configured to serve WAP content; I've found plenty of references for that online.
- If there's no way to have APEX serve up WAP content, and no way to decouple the process of generating the HTML page and having it be pushed out by Apaches, has anyone else come up with a solution (whether it's a true solution, work-around, or hack) that will let APEX support WAP?
- What else is anyone else doing as far as pushing WAP content out to the world?
Yes, I realize that WAP is old-school, especially with the release of the latest crop of BlackBerry devices and with the advent of Windows Mobile 6. But as always, what the client wants is what the contractor will strive to deliver...
Thanks for any help in advance.

I built an APEX mobile app that Oracle uses internally for people search, so I've been down this path before. You can easily built a simplified template that works well on the following phones (as reported by our internal users):
- Windows Mobile 5 and 6, Pocket PC Edition, Internet Explorer and Opera
- Windows Mobile SmartPhone Edition
- Nokia 9300 Communicator, Opera
- MotoRokr E6 Linux PDAPhone
- Nokia e62 Symbian
- Sony Ericsson P990i and Opera
- Treo 700p (Palm OS), Blazer
For Windows Mobile (my platform of choice), if you can influence the browser choice at all, Opera is a strong first, with IE on WM6 coming in second and IE on WM5 finishing in last place by a VERY wide margin.
I simply started with an almost empty template, then added the UI elements I needed.
APEX will NOT do WAP, nor do I think there is any way to make it do WAP. It absolutely requires JavaScript to run and I suspect that even if you got it produce WML, most WAP browsers wouldn't support JavaScript. I believe Oracle Application Server Wireless can translate an HTML app into WAP, but I've never used it.
From a development perspective, you can use the Opera browser to emulate Opera Mobile (more info here: Developing Apps for Smartphones but the best option is to get the free Windows Mobile Emulator from Microsoft. There's some good info on it here:
http://www.amset.info/pocketpc/emulator.asp
You'll probably have to pay for an emulator for the blackberry and palm, but I wouldn't even consider starting a project like this without ensuring that all of my developers had relevant emulators for the target platform.
Hope this helps,
Tyler

Can I get the list / specification of latest mobile phone with Java enabled, include all brands around the world. (Nokia, Samsung, Motorola... ...)
    Any good reference, or sites?
    Thanks in advance.

Oh..the list is amazing, actually I am developing Midlet related software, it is hard for me now because I cannot know how much the storage/max jar size/heap size/memory for different phone, unlike Nokia, they did provide full details online, can I know the others, where someone already put the data online.
    Thanks again.

  • Enable 'Mobile Phone' and 'Telefon at work' under ESS-SAP -Enterprise Portal (SAP-EP)

    Hi,
I want to enable the IT0105 subtypes Communication ID i.e. 0020 and MPHN for users to be able modify this data through Portal. While I am aware of a telephone number field being available already under ESS- Address Information, would it be possible to record the users telephone at work and mobile phone at work through any standard options?
Is there a possibility through FPM anywhere? We are looking for a non-customizing option and any possibility to avail this option through Standard or minimum customizing would be really helpful.
Could anyone here please provide your inputs on this case.
    Warm Regards,
    Vinay

Yes it is possible with configuration in EHP6 and later with subtype specific UIBBs. See Exciting Enhacements to ESS Personal Information Profile in Enhancement pack 6 for details. This discussion thread belongs to the SAP ERP HCM Employee Self-Service space.

  • Address Book and Bluetooth Mobile Phone

    Hi,
I have been trying to use my bluetooth enabled mobile phone with the address book to dial numbers and send sms. I am using the Nokia 9500 and the Motorola Razr V3 BLK. But when I pair the phone with address book and click on the tab of the contact, address book loses the bluetooth connection and the Send SMS and dial number options are not highlighted.
I have tried looking around for help, but haven't found anything. I would appreciate it if anyone could help me with this.
    Best Regards,
    Aditya

  • Can't get Exchange to work on mobile phones

    Hello everyone,
We have a self-signed certificate deployed via group policy from our domain controller to domain users. We are using Exchange 2013. Via the way I just stated, users can access email in Outlook 2010 on the domain. However, we run into problems when trying
to add the accounts on mobile phones. On an Android-based phone which is the Samsung Galaxy S4, we try to enter the settings manually via Exchange ActiveSync but it doesn't work.
I looked at this and followed the directions: https://support.office.com/en-ie/article/Set-up-email-on-an-Android-phone-or-tablet-886db551-8dfa-4fd5-b835-f8e532091872#__find_your_exchange
I logged into the Outlook Web App and looked at the POP settings and tried that server with SSL and it doesn't work. I tried that with the full email address as the username and just the username. Our domain is the prefix for both. The POP server and the
SMTP server are the same but POP has SSL and SMTP has TLS. I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not.
I looked at the Exchange server settings and it looks like mobile access is enabled for all. I didn't create any policies though.
    What do you guys think?

    Hi CharGP02A,
how does the error exactly look like? Any messages?
As a first step to check your configuration I suggest you con go to https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com/ and run the test for ActiveSync. Please provide the result/error message.
If you had a certificate issue your Galaxy S4 usually comes up with a message that it cannot verify the certificate. If you did not get the message I think that is not your cause.
Also if you installed the cert paths certificates on your webserver, there is no need to install the certificate on the device. The webserver will deliver the certiuficates from the path. The only thing left on Android is that it may ask you because there
is a root cert that is not trusted (yes, I suggest to use some 3rd party CA).
A good point to start would be
--> check your ActiveSync externalURL using get-activesyncvirtualdirectory, https://technet.microsoft.com/de-de/library/hh529912%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
--> check your CAS mailbox status for the mailbox
--> run the test using testconnectivity.microsoft.com , so you will receive a clear description of errors.
    Regards,
    Martin
I just tried connecting my email account via POP3 and got "unable to connect to email server to verify your account information. No response from the server." However, it pushed me to the next screen to put in more settings. I did that, got the
same error, and then it let me finish adding the account with no issues. My email inbox doesn't have any email in it only because we haven't converted the MX records from our hosting service to Exchange yet. So unfortunately I won't know if email truly works
    on the phone that way.
Regarding the ActiveSync part, I looked at our virtual directory for ActiveSync on Exchange 2013 EAC and the URL for that externally is https://web.domainname.net/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync. The tried the Exchange verifier site that you guys linked
and it won't let me run it with that URL due to characters. Web is a CNAME record on our DNS server and not a host record. Does that matter in this case? I tried it with just the web.domainname.net and it gave me
Host web.domainname.net couldn't be resolved in DNS InfoDomainNonexistent.

  • Purchase Order Approval through Mobile Phone / BlackBerry

Dear fellows i am interested in Purchase Order Approval through Mobile Phone / BlackBerry. I have seen MSCA Mobile Supply Chain Application Guide but that is for telnet only devices and specific to supply chain. What are setup requirements to make PO approve though "Web App" or "Mobile App" as show in below image URL. We need to work it primarly on BlackBerry.
    http://www.exforsys.com/images/OracleApps/t10_files/image010.gif
That will require logging in to EBS through Mobile and Making EBS available on Public IP !?! If this all fuss needs to be done then is there some Notification Alert type mechanism which sends email, but here a user could also reply that email with keywords to Approve or Reject that PO !?!
    Thank you.

Dear Hussein, ur links are iPhone specific and also BPEL Connector specific ("Oracle Buisness Approvals for Managers" BPEL Connector). The links for Blackberry assume that i am atleast already getting emails on blackberry through EBS. Our env is through MS Exchange Server. Where as i believe from ur suggected docs that the EBS needs to have its own direct setup with blackberry
In our current env we are using Oracle Alerts to Just send an email to user that PO for approval is waiting. We are NOT using "Oracle WorkFlow Notification Mailer". For blackberry will we be locked to use Workflow Mailer (i see patch 6802716 pre req also)!?! or we can still use simple Alerts!?!
following thread says type "approve" in reply whereas metalink guides tell a URL to click in email. will it be a ...
    href="mailto:[email protected]?body=approve"
    type URL!?!
    http://oracle.ittoolbox.com/groups/technical-functional/oracle-apps-l/po-approval-through-mail-3077383
    ===============================================================
There are a couple of steps that need to be complete before this will work.
    Pre- Req's
    1. Associate all apps users / approvers with email addresses
    2. sync apps users with workflow
    3. Check workflow users to make sure email is set to HTML.
    4. Configure and enable workflow mailer. You will need configuration information for the email service being used and a mailbox on the email service.
    5. Send a test message from workflow mailer to an apps user.
If this is successful, then email based approval will work. If the user tries to approve using a smart phone (blackberry, etc.) they will have to hit reply and type approve as the message for approval to work.
this guy also points to this idea.

Approving Requisitions/PO’s in Oracle E-Business Using Blackberry Devices
Presentation of a solution using Blackberry Devices to approve requisitions and purchase orders in Oracle E-Business Suite. This solution required creating a text message to send to Blackberry users, and modifying the Workflow Java Mailer to be able to correctly read the default messages being sent back from blackberry devices. In addition, profile options were created that allowed simple key strokes to be translated into Approve or Reject options recognized by Oracle Workflow Java Mailer.

  • Cant add Competitors on Mobile Phone App CRM 2015

I'm currently configuring the mobile phone app for CRM 2015 online.
The issue i'm having is that i cant seem to add competitors, either directly or to an existing Lead or Opportunity. Although the entity appears in the lead and opportunity records, it only shows already added competitors (which were added via the browser
or tablet app). I don't seem to have the option to add new competitors within the mobile phone app as the little "+" symbol at the top of the form is not present.
I have the competitors entity enabled for the mobile phone app and tablet app. the tablet app works fine.
I've also noticed that competitors entity appears on the tablet home page navigation but not on the mobile home page.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
This is very urgent. I have to submit the app in 2 days. Doesn'y anyone have any idea about this?? Please Help

  • Touchpad Wifi Connection Through Mobile Phone

    Hello Everyone,
Can anyone help me find a way to use my mobile phone(s) as a wifi/bluetooth mobile connection to the internet. I have a work Blackberry 9630 with 3G Data on Verizon and a Palm Centro with Sprint everything data. Is there some way to use my phone(s) to enable me to access the internet for my touchpad? Since I have a Centro I am also looking to possiblyt upgrade to an android device if this might facilitate access for my Touchpad.
    Thanks,
    Sean
Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

You will have to check for availability of "Wifi Hotspot" apps for the phones you mentioned.  My TouchPad works easily with my Pre2 and Pre3 with this type of software.
I'd ask a salesperson to demonstrate this ability in the store before considering any purchase.  The TouchPad has problems with some phones that try and create an "Ad-Hoc" wifi connection.  Those that create an infrastructure type connect fine.

  • Forwarding an Online Number to a mobile phone in s...

    Hello,
I need to get a Skype Online Number to Japan. and I need to divert that call to Sri Lankan Mobile phone. I will pay for the charges which occurs in forwarding.
Also if above cannot be done, as an example : If a person from some other country call my Online Number in Japan, can i anser this call using skype. Thanks
    champika

I need to get a Skype Online Number to Japan. and I need to divert that call to Sri Lankan Mobile phone. I will pay for the charges which occurs in forwarding.
If you are a resident of Japan, you can get a Japanese Online Number from Skype.  Once you have that, you can have calls to that number - or any call to your Skype account from other Skype users - forwarded to the Sri Lankan mobile phone.  You will need to purchase Skype Credit to cover the cost of those calls out to the Sri Lankan number.
If a person from some other country call my Online Number in Japan, can i anser this call using skype.
Even if you have call-forwarding enabled, you can still answer calls when you are logged into Skype.  Then you are not having to pay for the cost of calls forwarded to that Sri Lankan mobile number, for example.
    Good luck!

I have been having problems in implementing a simple application that fetches information from a server to a mobile phone, then using OTA midlet capabilities.
Have you got any code that you have tested on the device rather then on the emulator only?
All the samples i have used from books and online sources didnt work with my server.
The midlet simply asks for connection and then it gets stuck without displaying anything.
    Please gimme some hints :)
