Mobile Sites

I already know there is a topic about the mobile site issue. My problem is that I am trying to figure out a way of access my hotmail without going into the mobile version. When i enter www.msn.com i am redirected into the mobile version and i select the option at the bottom that shows the normal computer version, yet when i try to go into my hotmail i am redirected once again into the mobile version of it. I have researched it but have not yet found an answer. Is there any way of accessing hotmail the normal computer way through my iPod Touch? Sorry if this has already been asked, i couldn't find it anything that answered my question. (its the first 8gb version, and its updated to the latest version)

i think hotmail can now be accessed in the mail app on the ipod touch.
but the only way you can access a normal website rather than a mobile website is if you are given the option on that mobile site to go to the normal site. it's in the coding of the website to automatically give you the mobile site if you log in and it recognises the device as a mobile one.
it's the website design rather than the ipod - maybe contact the hotmail guys to ask for a link to the normal site?

    How do you stop mobile sites from loading in safari automatically on my iPad? I can't log into mobile me because of this.

    The me.com website is not designed for or intended to be accessed by iOS devices. Apple provides support in iOS or seperate Apps for accessing all aspects of MobileMe except for the Accounts section.
    Use MobielMe as intended and you'll have no problems.
    See: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1673
    Even if you use a different browser to get access to me.com on iOS, you'll find most of it is unusable.
    Other websites that present you with the mobile version have been programmed to do so by their developers. They specifically look for users accessing from 'mobile' devices and switch to the mobile site. Many such sites provide a link to go back to the 'full' site, if not, there's not a lot you can do except use a browser that can pretend not to be a mobile browser.

  • How do i get Safari to stop redirecting to mobile sites?

    Mobile websites are a curse, and IMO was one of the main reasons people didn't use the mobile web before the iPhone. Now with the iPhone you can view the actual web (minus flash, which I would really like to see soon, hint hint), without having to deal with these crippled sites, yet most of them still redirect you to their mobile site.
    Someone please tell me there is a way to get safari on the iPhone to stop redirecting to mobile sites without jailbreaking my phone.

    These redirects are controlled by the websites themseives. They figure out if you are on a mobile phone or not and then redirect you to the mobile version.
    The only way to change that is to look for a link on their site that leads to the full version or write the website webmaster asking them for a link to be added.
    There are other ways as well but those aren't supported by Apple so they can't be discussed here.

  • Safari 5.1.2 showing mobile site on macbook pro

    I keep having a an issues where my web pages look like this:
    Here is what I've tried:
    1. Open your Safari web browser by clicking on the Safari icon in the dock.
    2. Click on Safari in your Safari menu, located at the top of your screen.
    3. A drop-down menu will now appear. Choose the... option labeled Reset Safari....
    4. A warning dialog will now appear detailing the items that will be removed.
    5. Click the button on the dialog labeled Reset to complete the process.
    6. Your Safari browser will now restart automatically.
    *didn't work*
    Then I tried:
    From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences - Advanced and make sure the Develop mode box is not checked. That way Safari will only load from your currently installed Safari version.
    And from your Safari menu bar click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons, click Reset.
    *didn't work*
    Any suggestions would be helpful.
    Running Safari 5.1.2

    I have the same problem on all browers, not just Safari. Some sites default to mobile (CNN, Weather.com among others), flagging user agent in Develop does not change the mobile default. Mac Genius Bar suggested reinstalling Snow Leopard could resolve the issue, installing Lion would certainly cure. Neither worked, Safari, Firefox, Chrome, Opera--all default to mobile on certain sites. I could live with the mobile sites, but losing view on WordPress is a pain (only html view shows now).

  • Is it possible to make a link in a mobile site close the browser window on the iPhone?

    I'm developing a mobile site specifically for iPhone users and on my home page I have a disclaimer saying something like do not browse this site while driving. I give them the option to continue by clicking a link or to close the browser by clikcinga link. So far I haven't been able to find a script that can handle that for mobile, or more specifically, the iPhone. Can this be done on the iPhone and what versions are limited to this feature?

    Ok let me ask you IF the IT department of your workplace does NOT want OS X installed on "THEIR" (The Companies) computers because of what they think is some type of security issue why are you trying to go against their wishes and install OS X on a computer that is NOT owned by you.
    That could cost you your job.
    If you continue down this path you will screw up the Windows install and have to take the system back to the IT department to get it fixed. What do you think they will say at that point?
    Do as you like but you would be better off just buying your own Mac computer if you are set on using OS X as your personal operating system.

  • Mobile site using an accordian panel with menu selections

    I watched the adobe muse video here is the link  http://tv.adobe.com/watch/creative-suite-podcast-designers/how-to-create-a-dynamic-sliding -menu-for-your-mobile-website-in-adobe-muse/
    In the demo, when you preview it mobile site, the menu is not displayed and when you tap th emenu, the accordian menu displays and pushes all the content down and then when you close it, pushes it back up.
    I created a similar test mobile site. But, when I preview it the menu always appear on start up and the content is not pushed down or up when the menu is activated or closed.  I noticed that the options on the accordian widget in the video are different than in my MUSE which is V7.1 build 329.  There is no close all initially check box. Instead I have an overlap item below check box.
    So my question is what do I need to do to get this to work as per the video.
    Thanks-Bryan

    Hello,
    I think there may be an issue in how your model/Accordion Menu was configured.  What insert option are you using?  Your destination should only be 'one' row OR 'one' column at the most.
    Thanks,
    AJ

  • Trouble with mobile site. Displays for a second then screen goes black.

    Trouble with mobile site. Displays for a second then screen goes black. Using safari, 4s on Verizon. Example: m.mlb.com/lad/

    I hadn't checked the site since January or so, when it worked. It might be related to the Opening Weekend skin they have on the site, but for me, it shows the top part of the page for 3 seconds while it's loading (scrolling down is impossible) and then all of a sudden it turns black, showing nothing. It's that way for every MLB mobile site.
    At first:
    Two seconds later:
    I noticed this on 4/7/12. Does anyone NOT have this problem?

  • Mobile Site - Need Accordion Widget to start at top of page upon item selection

    I have set up a mobile site.  I use the accordion widget for topics.  If I select any topic without diving into it and scrolling, it works fine.  If I scroll through a topic after selection, the next topic starts in the middle or the bottom.  Kind of annoying for the user.  Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hi Kevin,
    Could you please share the site URL or any screen shot for reference?

  • Embeding Youtube video in a mobile site.

    I can embed Youtube video in my normal site without problem. But the same video will not appear on my mobile site.
    Is there anything special that needs to be done to make the video work?
    I'm running out of ideas! Thanks.

    Turns out it was down to using the old or new embed code from youtube.
    There were also problems with Muse crashing once I embeded the correct code. I fixed using this:

  • Where is the database connection for a mobile site?

    I have a Flash mobile site that I didn't create, but need to edit. On clicking the submit button it checks that the login & password are in a SQL database. The problem is, I can't find the method that runs a query on the database or where the database is even connected. I've tried searching through the code for words like "SQL", "database", and "connection" without success. I stepped through the code where I find a call to method "super", but then it goes back to the original method and then the user is logged in. Can someone explain where the call to the database is?
    Other things I'd like to know are: Where is the SQL Connection? In the main (non-mobile site), there is a web.config with a line that says
    <add name="TPConnectionString1"  connectionString="DataSource=xxx.xx.xxx.xx,xxxx\sqlexpress;Initial Catalog=TP;Persist Security  Info=True;User ID=xxxxx" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
    Where (what file: ex. web.config, xyz.as, etc.) would a similar line in the mobile code be?
    What does super(type, bubbles, cancelable) do?
    Here's the method for the submit button: LoginView.mxml
            private function btnclicked():void{  techController.username = txtUsername.text;  techController.password = txtPassword.text;  var evt:TechEvent = new TechEvent(TechEvent.LOGIN_USER);  this.dispatchEvent(evt);  }
    Here's the TechEvent function that is called: TechEvent.as
        public function TechEvent(type: String, bubbles:Boolean=true, cancelable:Boolean=false)  {  super(type, bubbles, cancelable);  }
    Here's the dispatchEvent method: UIComponent.as
    override public function dispatchEvent(event:Event):Boolean  {  if (dispatchEventHook != null)  dispatchEventHook(event, this);    return super.dispatchEvent(event);  }

    You are looking for an event handler for the TechEvent.LOGIN_USER event.
    Coding style looks similar to a SWIZ style framework, in which case, the event handlers could be defined using metadata [EventHandler] or [Mediate] tags, but could just be a plain simple .addEventListener(TectEvent.LOGIN_USER,fn); declaration earlier on.
    Either way, this is what has happened:
    1. User enters uname and password, then clicks button
    2. Button click handler populates the techController with relevant values then dispatches an event to let the world know it has done so
    3. The event handler checks the techController and makes the login call
    4. Some time later, the server will respond and trigger another event that the app can respond to

  • Redirecting between a desktop-browser site and a mobile site

    My company is inheriting a site built by another party in CQ5. This site is intended to be viewed on a desktop browser. We are tasked with building a mobile site for it. Our creative department would like the user's browser to be detected, and if the user requests a page on the desktop site from a mobile browser, they would be redirected to the mobile site. Is there any way to do this on the server side without disabling caching on the site?

    true
    nevertheless, you need it in places for uncached requests. additionally you have the options of:
    - javascript redirect (allows you to build an "opt-out" for the user, i.e. the user wants to stay on desktop regardless of mobile device, via cookie)
    <script language=javascript>
    <!--
    if (navigator.userAgent.match(/mobile/i))
       location.replace("http://mobile.myurl.com");
    -->
    </script>
    - apache configuration redirect
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^.*(mobile).*$ [NC]
    RewriteRule ^$ http://m.example.com/ [L,R=302]
    </IfModule>
    dom.

  • Live site with mobile site under construction

    I have developed a desktop site which has been uploaded to a local server and is now live. I am now working on the smartphone version of the site which may take a few weeks to complete. I notice that once the mobile version is opened in the Muse file, any uploaded changes of the desktop site on the server include a manifest file that reflects the existence of a mobile version and automatically redirect any visits from smart phones to that version, even though it is unfinished. This is not what I want to do until the mobile version is completed.
    Is there a preferred way that allows work on one version of a site while another version is already live? Is it as simple as making a copy of the Muse file under a different name and then renaming and uploading the entire site from that copy of the Muse file when it is finished?

    The other option is you can create a Homepage for Mobile which can say "Mobile site under construction" create a link there to go to Desktop site.
    While creating the link, make sure you link it to the Desktop Homepage. And in plan view of Mobile site, make sure you uncheck the "Export Page" option of all the pages so that when you Publish/Upload the site, the other mobile pages are not uploaded.
    Regards,
    Sachin

  • IWeb mobile site won't work

    I published an iWeb website and when I try to visit it on my iPhone, the phone automatically redirects the URL to "m.websitename.com" (even if I delete the m.) and then shows a message of "We are sorry, there is no such site.". I haven't found anything on iWeb about mobile sites, so I'm not sure why the mobile device won't just visit the normal site.

    Contact your host's tech support and ask them if they have a redirect on the server.
    Now that having a mobile version of your site is essential if you are in business, its usually set up as a sub domain with the prefix "m." or "mobile."
    Most hosting services allow us to decide which method, if any, to use to direct mobile visitors to the appropriate version of the site. Some have obviously decided to do it for us using either .htaccess or a server side script!
    Maybe you should leave it in place and take this as a strong hint to create a mobile compatible version of your site. It is possible to do this using iWeb if you think about it.

  • Redirect to mobile site {subject edited by moderator}

    hello i have a website and a mobile site when i try to upload the mobile site files it ask to over write the main website files ?help in cs6

    You can do this with javascript on the main site's default page -
    <script type="text/javascript">
    if (screen.width <= 730) {
      window.location = "http://www.example.com/m";
    var ua = navigator.userAgent.toLowerCase();
    var isAndroid = ua.indexOf("android") > -1; //&& ua.indexOf("mobile");
    if(isAndroid && screen.width <= 730) {
      // Do something!
      // Redirect to Android-site?
      window.location = 'http://www.example.com/m';
    </script>
    If either of those tests return true, the user is redirected to the default page in the "m" subdirectory which would be where your mobile site and its dependent files are located.

  • Link object to phone number on mobile site?

    Is there a way to link an object to a phone number, rather than the actual number? Specifically, I want to do this on my mobile site, and I have an icon of a phone that when tapped, generates a pop up phone number.
    Here is my mobile site: http://allenusa.org/phone/index.html
    Is this possible at all?

    If you enter the phone number without prefix or dashes, Muse will automatically add tel:
    The link on your Home page is missing the "tel:" I believe Muse failed to add the "tel:" due to the dashes. I'll look at getting a bug written up on that.
    Either add the "tel:" manually or re-enter the link without dashes.
    FWIW, the tel: link is correct on the FAQ page.

  • Synchronized text issue from desktop to mobile site design

    Hello, I love the idea of synchronized text, but is there a way to assign different styles on both desktop and mobile site pages?
    For example, If I use synchronized text on my desktop pages, my font sizes will be larger then the font sizes I would use for my mobile site pages. But, using synchronized text, if that content is linked between my desktop and mobile pages, I'm limited to one font size, which would work for my desktop site but the font size would be too large for my mobile site.
    The content between between desktop and mobile would be the same text, but I need the option to assign a different font size for my mobile site.
    Is this possible? If not, can you please add this to new features.
    Thanks much
    Cheriss

    Hi,
    Single page websites can be great for new sites or for some special projects, but I won't recommend them as long-term solutions and, if you already have a multi-page website, I do not recommend switching to a single-page site.
    If your single page site has great content and good structure, google might provide same treatment as it does for various sub pages website.
    A useful Video by Matt Cutt, head of the webspam team at Google
    Search engines will index all the pages of your website, providing multiple opportunities for your site to come up in searches. When your site consists of only one page, a single page is exactly what you’ll have indexed.
    That means if you have many services, many products, single page design will really compromise your rank and result in search engine.
    Do let me know if you have some more questions.
