Mocha VNC not working?

I've never really done remote admin stuff before but I did some research on it and tried to get it working. I just want to be able to access my desktop from my iPhone when I am out and about.
I typed in my comps IP address and opened the appropriate ports on my wireless router... Is there a easy guide somewhere to follow. Because I don't really know how to get it working? Do I need an app on my comp like TightVNC? Any help or suggestions would be really good! Cheers.

If you get a "Host has closed the session" message it usually means that the VNC client tried to access the host but was stopped due to an incorrect network setting or firewall. Essentially that the Host denied access to it and wouldn't allow authentication. I would recommend checking with the Software vendor for detailed FAQ information. Also make sure that both client and host are running with the same local domain and ip range. Usually VNC clients will not have a password as that is worked out when you originally logon to the LAN/WAN etc... it sounds like you haven't got the authentication to the network setup correctly. I personnaly haven't used the iPhone VNC app's so can't provide firsthand knowledge (sorry it's on my list of things to do but thats as long as my arm) i would check to make sure that both devices are appearing on the same network first up and that they can talk to each other first then proceed to try to setup the VNC. For more detailed info as i said best to check with the vendor for their FAQ's and they could possibly have forums like this themselves.

  • Screen sharing and vnc not working

    OSX Lion Screen Sharing
I was using screen sharing on OSX Leopard using VNC Viewer.  Even after upgrading to OSX Lion this worked ok.  But then the other day there was an update to screen sharing which I applied.  This first, switced screen sharing off, so I have switched it back on.
However now my VNC client no longer works with Screen Sharing.  I get the new login screen but at that point all keyboard and mouse input is ignored and is therefore unusable.
This was working ok before the screen sharing update.
    Anyone else had this issue?

Thanks but that is talking about using VNC on a Mac rather than connecting to a Mac with a VNC, my VNC client is running on windows.  Also, since my original post, TightVNC has also experienced the same issues with OSX Lions Screen Sharing so its not just a RealVNC issue.
I did manage to connect once, just after rebooting OSX and that session worked fine, subsequent sessions exhibited the same issue though.

  • Mocha tracking not working when applied to AE clip

Thank you in advance for reading this.
I'm a complete newbie to AE and, frankly, video editing in general. I'm trying to replace faces in a video with png pictures. I'm really not trying to go for the professional look and my skills wouldn't allow it if I was .
I rendered my clip as sequenced jpgs in AE then added splines in mocha and inserted my pngs there to see how it looks. I am very happy with the results in Mocha. However, the tracking doesn't line up when exporting the data to my Clip in AE. If needed, I can upload my project somewhere to further illustrate my situation.
I'm really enjoying this experiment with video editing (even though frustration has more then set in) and would like to improve my skills in time. Please help with my first few baby steps towards that goal!
    Thanks Again!

Check this Martin Brennand's list to identify and solve your issue.
Report back if you need some more help (please, give detailed explanation of what you are doing and what exactly is going wrong).

    Hello,
I have TMG installed in my environment through which user access filtered internet. A rule in which i have enabled URL filtration is in Authenticated mode of user and proxy address is also added in all internet explorer of user. when ever user try to VNC
a computer it says "connection timed out" and when i add " all user" instead of Authenticated mode in TMG rule. its is able to connect.

    Hi,
if your force user / group authentication in Firewall Policy rules, the clients must be TMG clients for protocols other than HTTP and HTTPS:

  • Built-in iSight will not work with Skype

I have a new Macbook Pro that I purchased about a month ago, running OS
    X 10.5.8.
I've been using Skype to video chat, and at first everything was working
very well. In the middle of a chat, however, the video stopped working
    altogether.
If I go to the video tab in Skype preferences, the camera will then turn
on and I can see myself, but once I go back to the call, the camera
won't turn on (the green light on my camera stays off too). In video
preferences I have the following options checked: Enable Skype Video,
Automatically receive video from: People in my Contact list, and Show
that I have video to: People in my contact list. I have also tried to
enable the "Start my video automatically" option but to no avail. The
video camera it is set to use is the Built-in iSight.
I have tried reinstalling skype, including deleting all the preference
files on the computer, but that did not help.
The video works fine in other applications such as Photobooth, iMovie and Google Chat. I have browsed through the many Skype forum posts about similar issues, as well as Apple forums and have tried every fix that people have suggested including resetting my SMC, updating all my applications, trying Skype under different user accounts, reinstalling Quicktime, reinstalling Skype (as outlined in the Uninstall guide for mac), repairing permissions, etc.
I am pretty sure that this problem began directly after I switched to
SCREEN SHARING during a video chat. When I switched back to Video, it
    did not work.
No other applications that use my camera are running.
I am assuming that since it originally worked with Skype, and since I had not touched ANY of the options in Skype and have done nothing other than try screen sharing, and since I did a complete Skype reinstall includeing preferences, that the problem should NOT be with the Skype program itself, but rather something that was modified in the operating system configuration during screen sharing.
The only other thing I can think of trying is to reinstall iSight, although I haven't been able to figure out how to do that, or to reinstall my entire operating system, which I don't see as an acceptable solution.
I am using Skype Version 2.8.0.659
Any help getting this fixed would be greatly appreciated.
I have posted a similar topic in the Skype forums along with a screen shot of my Skype preferences window: http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic=422861
From my online reading in both the Apple and Skype forums, it seems as though this is a relatively common problem. If I can find a solution from either Skype or Apple, I will post the solution in both of the forums.
Update: I just upgraded my OS to 10.6.1 and my camera started working again. Then, I was in a chat and I lost my internet connection. As soon as I got back online I restarted the conversation and the camera doesn't work again. This is getting to be ridiculous.
    Thank you for your time,
    rystheguy

    Hi,
It is years since I tried Skype. (Probably in Tiger)
I use Little Snitch, a utility that can report the ports and IPS any App is trying to contact.
For Video chats it seems the Skype process spreads the load across many "Servers" wanting to connect to about 3 doz (I got fed up with clicking the accept Button)
For this reason I do not think it is very secure.
I only today read a post that said Skype had Screen Sharing.
iChat 5 makes it clear (well if you run /Applications/iChat.app/Contents/MacOS/iChat -errorLogLevel 7 In Terminal) that there is a "camera" setting for the Desktop which may be a forthcoming thing or is about produce the Screen Sharing pic. (i.e iChat lists two "cameras" in the log produced by the above Terminal command).
iChat 4 and 5 use the Apple Remote Desktop engine to do Screen Share as does the Screen Sharing App invoked from the Finders Go Menu > Go to Server and using VNC:// as the Link type.
I would have no idea what protocol Skype are using.
They created their own Video protocols and similar with SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) for Connecting to POTS (Plain Old Telephone Systems) Phones in disregard for Internationally agreed Standards.
I doubt that it makes use of the ARD engine. It will probably be a reinvention of the wheel again.
I took a look around the Skype web site but could not find any mention of how they are doing Screen Sharing.
I would guess it is similar to the iUSBCam method of Desktop as Video Feed.
Do the Console or System Log in Console (Applications/Utilities) have any messages about this ?

  • Remote Desktop & Screen Sharing not  working??

    Hello all,
I am trying to connect to a friends computer via the Finder's Screen Sharing, I enabled the screen sharing preferences under the System Preferences, put the password, etc and had him do the same and I am not able to connect to his system. I'm sure there is something else I have to do in order to get this to work. In the Windows world I had to use the VNC. But, I remeber reading in a Snow Leopard book that this is all that had to be done in order for this to work.
    Best Regards,
    freesparks

I know I could never get this working between two macs of the same OS (10.5.8) over the internet with the appropriate Sharing settings set up....
Im guessing both Screen Sharing and Remote Access through iChat DO NOT work anywhere but in a LAN?

  • Screen sharing mobile account (open directory) not working

Can anybody else verify that screen sharing, through Remote Management, does not work when trying to connect to mobile accounts on 10.7 Lion?
Please note, when I say through Remote Management, I mean that under System Prefs->Sharing->Screen Sharing is disabled but Remote Management is enabled. (Remote Management being able to provide it's own screen sharing)
Also I dont mean VNC... please make sure the "VNC viewers may control my screen with password" option is turned off under System Prefs->Sharing->Remote Management->Computer Settings

I can confirm this. Same experience here on a 10.7.2 Mac.
I get a "Please verify you have entered the correct name and password".
Does this work on 10.6? I'm unable to check at the moment.

  • Mail, iCal Server and iChat server will not work over VPN

I have an Airport Extreme Base Station at the office running the network. Behind it sits a Mac Mini Snow Leopard server running 10.6.3. The ports necessary for Mail, iCal Server and iChat work fine through that external connection. I can also connect with VPN from my 10.6.3 clients.
HOWEVER, when I connect with the VPN clients, I am suddenly unable to access the Mail, iCal Server, Wiki server and iChat server. All connections time out. I can ping the server and I can do other things that do NOT work on the public Airport like ssh or VNC. ssh and VNC are closed at the airport extreme.
So it's pretty odd. When I'm connected via the VPN, all ports that are forwarded to the Snow Leopard server time out over the VPN.
I've tried various and sundry configurations with the VPN client. This includes trying to send all traffic over the VPN, moving it up in the service order, etc. etc. Nothing fixes it. DNS resolution is working fine, however when I do a wireshark capture of ppp0 traffic, I notice that SSL and TLSv1 handshakes appear to occur on the public IP address instead of the private network IP address... and they're all resets.
Has anyone gotten this to work successfully? Like I said, all ports that are NOT forwarded through the Airport work fine over the VPN, but will not work when connected to the VPN. It's really bizarre.

New data: any ports that are normally forwarded on the Airport Extreme to the Mac Mini server will not work when connected to the VPN.
For instance, if I have imaps/993 forwarded from the Airport Extreme to the Mac Mini, it works fine over the Internet. If I connect to the VPN, I can connect to all OTHER services on the Mac Mini, but Mail, for instance, will not work.

  • Screen Sharing Not Working

I have screen sharing turned on and it works fine when I'm in the house in front of the computer on the same network, but when I'm at the office trying to share the screen it is not working. I'm I doing anything wrong?
I have the Macbook Pro hooked up to my TV (main monitor). I have the computer screen on "never sleep" (computer screen is damaged from motorcycle accident-can't damage any more) and the keyboard lights turns off after 5 seconds of none use.

I'm leaving my personal MacBook pro at the house and using my office MacBook Pro trying to share the screen. I'm using the assigned vnc://ipaddress to login. What I mean by not working is that I get a message stating that my computer cannot be found. I drive home from the office (I don't do anything to the house computer) and sit in my yard and screen sharing works.
Most likely when you are in your yard, you are connecting to your home WiFi network and this by definition is the same as being in the living room.
If I need to configure my home router to port forwarding I'm not sure I know what to do and how to do it.
Depends on the make and model of router. A Google search for "Port Forward yourroutermake yourroutermodel" will most likely find instructions.
I'm talking my Mom, who lives in Louisiana, into buying a Mac and I told her I could help in Arkansas by screen sharing. So, is Port Forwarding a default feature on most routers?
Yes, most routers allow Port Forwarding, however, for your Mom there are other options.
    a) Get 2 Free AOL Instant Messaging (AIM) accounts. Give one to your Mom. Now use iChat and in Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) there is an iChat option where you can ask your Mother to share her screen or she can click a button to export her screen to you.
    b) If your mother is not going to be around when you work on her Mac, you could install an iChat add-on called Chax which has an option to always accept requests for screen sharing. Your Mother would have to be very careful about who she allows in your iChat "Buddy List". This is also an option for your work vs home situation.
    c) Skype has a Mac OS X beta version that includes Screen sharing. You could use this for your Mom. No home router issues.
    d) You can subscribe to Apple's MobileMe service and use the Back-to-My-Mac feature. You must make both your systems and your Mom's Mac part of your account. Is not suppose to have home router issues, but Back-to-My-Mac works best with Airport Extreme or Express routers.
    e) You can use LogMeIn.com for screen sharing. No home router issues. However, LogMeIn.com is not as fast. However, it is fairly reliable and easy to get setup.
    f) You can Port Forward the screen sharing ports in your and your Mom's home router.
I would like to have control of the mac at home and my Mom's new mac. How screen sharing works when I am at the house is exactly what I need. I see the other MacBook Pro in a window on my MacBook Pro computer and I have full control of the Mac.
You can get full control, you just need to deal with your home router.
Also note: Depending on how your Work network is setup, you may nave to deal with corporate firewalls that may not be happy passing your screen sharing requests.
So do you have a corporate firewall? Do you have to configure a Proxy server in System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced -> Proxy? If you do, then you may have additional hurdles connecting from work to home.
However, going from your home to your Mom's Mac only needs to deal with Port Forwarding on your Mom's home router.

  • Share Screen not working but connecting to computer to see files does!?!!

    Hi
Strange but I can see the computer I need to share screen with in my shared devices and I can "CONNECT AS" and see all my shared files but I CAN NOT share screen. It is properly enabled and share screen works with all my other networked computer.
Any ideas what gives here???!!! Thanks for any suggestions!

Same problem here, cannot login into a MacPro (10.6.4) from another MacPro (10.6.4), or from a MacBook (10.6.4), or from a MacBook Pro (10.6.4), all of them located in the same network (intranet).
As the original post, I can mount discs remotely, even ssh into the destination machine, but screen sharing (or even the simple vnc) just does not work.

  • Sort Order Column not Working

I have set a sort order column on one of A VARCHAR field, but the functionality is not working. The sorting is enabled in the table view and when I sort by the said column it still sorts based on the VARCHAR values of the column instead of the other INT column I want to sort by. The logical SQL and physical query never even includes the column to sort. Are there any exceptions for the 'Sort Order Column' setting? Is there a config setting or data connections setting that I need to check to make this work?
    Thank You!

  • Dashboard Console not working - opesntack on Oracle Linux 6.6

I have installed openstack using the instructions at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/openstack/linux/documentation/oracle-openstack-user-guide-2296176.pdf
I have a Oracle Linux 6.6 as the controller and two nodes of Oracle VM 3.3.2 as compute nodes. I managed to get an instance up and running but not sure how to connect to those instances. When I navigate to the console tab of the instance vnc connects successfully the be screen is blank and I think its not accepting any keyboard inputs as well.
How do I get the console to work from the dashboard (or connect via a vnc viewer)? Alternately I have used DHCP in the instance and know the private IP of the instance (192.168.1.100), how do I ssh to the instance?
    Amish.

    Hi Amish,
I saw your comment in other thread and I'll try to answer your questions in the best way I can - but this is huge topic. Please keep in mind that I'm also newbie in this area too and I've encountered many problems getting basic OpenStack installation working, like you. Some of them are still not solved for me either. I also did not get any help here
Networking in OpenStack is IMO difficult to understand, especially for people like me who are accustom with traditional approach. So this is how I understand it now:
Networking can be purely software driven and in this case it is carried out by openvswitch (http://openvswitch.org - better get accustom with it if you are not yet). Simple linux bridge - utilized by Oracle VM - is not used by OpenStack. Also there can be hardware plugins which can move some of network features to hardware - but I have no experience in this area.
There are two types of networks you can create in OpenStack: provider and tenant one:
Provider networks (also called flat networks) are equivalent of what you set in Oracle VM Manager and in typical (old fashioned) IT world. These are networks which in OpenStack are defined by cloud administrator (You) and bound to existing physical network which are already set by network administrator. For example you have couple of ports on your servers connected to LAN switches, some of them are in access mode some are trunks of specific VLANs. Also routers and other network services are managed outside of your cloud.
You need to define these networks in OpenStack before any user can connect their VMs to them. The most important part is that can do this from the GUI .
On the other hand there are so called: tenant networks. These are networks which are under cloud user administration. These are like cloud private networks (if you know Ops Center or Exalogic there is similar notion there) - which are created on-demand by your users. You as cloud administrator only create some limits (quotas) regarding how many such networks can be created by user. But obviously you - as cloud administrator - also need to define mechanisms which allow such networks be created on demand. This also has to be done from command line by editing some files - before users can create tenant networks.
The mechanism I'm talking about can be: VLAN, VxLAN, GRE.
First one is the only one currently supported by Oracle and it is quite simple: you, in cooperation with your network administrator reserve range (or set) of traditional VLANs and configure them on network switches where your servers are connected (I mean server ports which you dedicate for tenant networks - not all because you need other network for management, etc). Then you define this set in some OpenStack files to let it manage them on its own. For example: you have got 20 VLANs from network department for exclusive use for your cloud. Nobody knows what each VLAN will be used for yet. This will be allocated by cloud users on-demand. Openstack will just allocate VLAN upon user request and will not allow other users to create their private networks on the same VLAN.
Better approach is to use VxLAN which is tunneling mechanism. You don't need pool of VLANs in this case but you just set tunneling rules and then OpenStack creates private networks using secure tunnels over L3 network which you define first. VxLAN is standard, you can read about it and it is used by OpenStack for Solaris. Unfortunately this did not work for me and Release Notes from Oracle OpenStack for Linux says that it is not supported yet.
There is also GRE - which is also tunneling and is similar to VxLAN - but it did not work for me either.
Where it is all configured? Basic setup is created by packstack using CONFIG_NEUTRON_OVS_* variables. However I used packstack only for installation and then I modified configuration files on all nodes. The most important file where configuration is kept is: /etc/neutron/plugin.ini. In this files you set framework on which provider and tenant networks are build. The most important section is [OVS], for example:
    [OVS]
    enant_network_type=vlan
    enable_tunneling=false
    integration_bridge=br-int
    bridge_mappings=physnet1:br-eth3
    network_vlan_ranges=physnet1:2032:2032,physnet1:3010:3020
This example is from compute node. It says: I have one physical network: physnet1 which is supported by virtual switch called br-eth3. You need to create this virtual switch on your own! OpenStack networking deamons (Neutron) do not create virtual switches - they only reconfigure them if needed. Physical network is just name which you can use later on if you setup provider network.
Also, in the example you tell OpenStack that you have 11 VLANs available on physnet1 network. Similar configuration has to be done on controller node (but it is only because in simple topology your controller is also network node)
Then I dedicated first VLAN: 2032 for provider network. This was accomplished by command issued on controller node.
    # neutron net-create --router:external=true --provider:network_type=vlan  --provider:physical_network=physnet1 --provider:segmentation_id=2032 labnet
From that moment this network (called "labnet") should appear in the GUI and you can connect VMs to it. Users might also do this if you mark it as "shared".
Also users should be able to create their private networks and this will allocate VLANs from 3010 to 3020 - so there can be only 10 private networks created totally in your cloud now.
Of course this is example and you can build completely different setup. You can use different ports for provider networks and for tenants one. You do not need VLANs for provider networks and theoretically for tenant too - but you would have to have plenty of ports for this. If you manage to get VxLAN working - then please share your experience here.
I strongly recommend reading following information sources (Oracle does  not provide this details in their documentation):
    OpenStack Docs: Current
https://developer.rackspace.com/blog/neutron-networking-the-building-blocks-of-an-openstack-cloud/  there are more blog entries (followups) on this topic - look for them using keyword "neutron"
    https://www.rdoproject.org/forum/discussion/875/does-rdo-support-flat-network-type-/p1
    As for blank VM console:
I've also had this problem when I used Cirros VM images. However when I imported the template I use on my Oracle VM - then console was working correctly. I think this is more connected with VM configuration then OpenStack. AFAIK you can connect to console directly using vnc client - at least you can configure Nova in that way that it allows external VNC connections.

    Michal

  • Keypad on keyboard not working with some websites.

After upgrading to windows 7 I have certain internal and external websites that will not allow the numbers on side of keyboard to work.  I found some .net 4 security updates that were blocking those number keys.  After removing updates the problem
went away for a short time on one computer.  The other computer I had to remove .net 4 completely before I could use the numbers on the side.  Both computers after seeing them work stopped working again without the security updates being reaplied.
The .net security updates that I removed from Microsoft said this, "This update resolves vulnerabilities that could allow elevation of privilege if a user goes to a specially crafted website or a website that contains specially crafted web content."
If I remote into the computer using vnc everything works fine.  I just cannot use the side numbers keys when sitting at the local pc.
Any ideas that may help with this would be great.

    Hi,
To test this issue in Clean Boot mode would eliminate the software conflicts.
If this issue persists, try this way to test:
Type without using the keyboard (On-Screen Keyboard)
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows/type-without-keyboard#type-without-keyboard=windows-7
if this issue does not occur in this situation, we can reinstall the Keyboard driver.

  • Remote Desktop not working on client after crash

I was installing the ARD Client along with some other OS upgrades on two client computers. My main ARD console was busy copying some files so I set up ARD to install the pkgs via the task server on another Mac. During the install my main ARD console crashed. Now the clients show up with the status that Screen sharing is allowed but they show the old version of the ARD client is installed. I manually installed the new ARD client but it still shows up on my console as the old version. Sometimes I can connect to the clients and sometimes I cannot. I can't do anything other than screen sharing and that is not working well either. I went to the client computer and stopped and started ARD through system preferences. When that didn't work I used the terminal command to kickstart ARD on the client. No change on the admin side. I've also noticed when I am able to connect to the client that it is constantly reconnecting to it like it is dropping the connection. I ran Activity monitor on the client and ARDAgent shows up there but keeps disappearing like its starting and stopping on its own. Has anyone had anything similar happen to them?

When I looked in this folder, I saw the "Client" folder with the red "no access" icon on it.  I did a GetInfo and changed the permissions for this folder to include Administrators with read/write (why it wasn't already like this as I was logged into the server through ARD as admin [server is headless], I'll never know).
I propagated this perm changes down through the folder's children and all seems well.  Its likely that because of the access issue, ARD could not initiate any connections (vnc://serverIP did not work either initially).
    YMMV.

  • ASA Rdp plugin not working with Java 7 Update 55

When accessing the clientless VPN on an ASA 5510 with Java 7 Update 51, the RDP and VNC plugins work exactly as they should. But now that Java 7 Update 55 is out, the plugins once again are useless, as they throw Java security exceptions about "attempted to open a sandboxed jar <applet url here> as Trusted-Only".
This happens even with the most up to date RDP and VNC plugins available on the Cisco website. Is anyone else having these problems, and know of any solutions or if Cisco is working on this problem at all?
    Thanks

I've tried various Java Versions but no luck at all.
    Last try was with:
    Java-Plug-in 11.5.2.13
    JRE-Version verwenden 1.8.0_05-b13 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM
I am also getting following error:
Missing Application-Name manifest attribute for: https://<mywebsite>++/rdp/properJavaRDP14-1.1.jar
All known workarounds are done to fix the problem. Could anyone confirm that this is fixed with ASA version 9.1.4 ? Its a productive ASA so i do not want to test around for a maybe :)
