Modify objects in file

Hi guys...i am new to java and i face problem with an assignment. I am totally stack with the part where i have to modify objects in a file. Well i know how to write objects i know how to read them but i have no clue how to write again in the same file new objects without overwrite the file. Can u give me some help i wud appreciate it.

I'm not sure exactly what it is you're trying to do. However, the objects in a serialization stream depend on each other; you can't just snip an object out of it or meddle with it freely without incurring side effects. It sounds like the simplest way to do what you want is to open the stream, read objects and write them to a new file, and change the object you want to change when it comes along.
If you wanted to have a really delightful time of it, you could learn to interpret the serialization format used by ObjectOutputStream and manipulate it yourself using a RandomAccessFile or whatever... but that sounds like it's beyond the scope of your assignment.
Does that help? If not, what exactly is it you need to do?

Background:
I wrote a large piece of VBA code in an Excel workbook to help handle a lot of repeating jobs. I found it is painful to maintain and modify the code by using the "pool" VBA Editor. Then, I decided to move those VBA code to C# solutions, which I
suppose I can benefit from the modern editor - Visual Studio.
Problem:
Although I don't know too much about VBA, I know even less about C#. Hence I got some problem when I try to "translate" my VBA code to C#, and here is one of them:
I create a document-level solution for Excel. I need to embed some files (.cab, .exe) into the solution, so when I run a method (e.g. by clicking a button), those files will be copied to the file system, and do some job.
In VBA, I embedded those files in the Excel workbook, then I can copy the embedded objects to the clipboard by using the following VBA code:
Sheet1.OLEObjects("obj_cab").COpy
And then I can paste the object to the file system by using the following VBA code:
CreateObject("Shell.Application").Namespace("C:\Sample\").Self.InvokeVerb "Paste"
In the C# solution, I can use the following equivalent method to copy the embedded object to the clipboard:
Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.OLEObject OLEobj = (Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.OLEObject)sheet1.OLEObjects("obj_cab");
OLEobj.Copy();
Then I stuck here, I don't know how to get this object from clipboard and put it to the file system. The 'CreateObject' method does not exist in C#.
Anyone can help? Either a better way to embed those files or a working way to paste those objects (files) from clipboard to the file system?

It's possible to save the oleobject to the disk. But it's not very simple. Because when you call the Copy method of OLEObject to clipboard, it's actually not the exact the oleobject file itself, it's actually a wrapper of the file, it means that it has different
file headers and some other information from the original oleobject file.
To save oleobject on the disk, you need to analyze the byte array by yourself, this would be a little complicated. You could check the answer in this thread for the code sample:

Can I modify a pdf file containing a signature field prior to download?

I have a pdf file I use as a template and in my .net application I fill in a few fields using pdfstamper, iTextsharp, etc. I'm new to this.
That all works.
I also have a signature field in my document.
After I modify the fields, with the person's name, etc., I download it to the client machine, open it in Adobe Reader X, and ask the user to sign the document.
I get an error saying "This document enabled extended features in Adobe Reader. The doc hsa been changed since it was created and the extended features are no longer available......"
Is there a way for me to do what I'm trying to do? I hope this is somewhat clear. It appears that modifying the fields with itextsharp is what's causing the error to occur.

More specifically, here's what I'm doing. There's a desk where people come to pick up a gift card. When someone picks one up, a clerk runs this .net program, selects the persons name form a dropdown list, I modify a pdf file (using iTextSharp), by adding the person's name, the serial number of the giftcard, etc, download this file to the client desktop, where the person signs using an ePad. Then the clerk saves that pdf file.
The clerk will not be able to go into the menus and remove and/or save Reader Usage Rights. Is there a way through code that I can add Reader Usage Rights after I modify the file. It sounds from your replies that that's what I need to do.
Also, I don't really care about the official "signature", security, certificates, etc. I just want someone to be able to scribble onto the document using a signature pad.
I do have Acrobat Pro X and LiveCycle. (I assume that means I have LCR Extensions.)

CS5 is opening raw files as a smart object to files im currently working

I just bough new CS 5 and find this big error. When i open raw file in Camera Raw and i have opened some jpg in CS5, it always opened as a smart object to this small jpg i have opened before. The same is doing my CS 5 when i drag some file from desktop, it always ended as a smart object in file im currently working with. Normaly it has to open as a new file not as a smart object in this file im already working with.

How are you opening your RAW files? If you are dragging and dropping them onto Photoshop, on top of an already opened file's workspace - all files will be placed as smart objects. If you drag the files to anywhere else in the interface, for instance the grey area on top of the workspace, they should open as usual. If you are opening them via Bridge or by double-clicking them in Explore, they should open as normal.

What OS are you running.. this is usually only a problem in Mavericks.
If so I recommend you mount the hard disk manually..
Use Go, Connect to server.
Type in the IP address if static.. eg
AFP://10.0.1.1
Or the name.. but you will have issues unless the name is short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. if you are using bad names.. fix it by a full factory reset in airport utility and give it all names that comply to the above.
Type in
AFP://TCname.local Where TCname is replaced with the actual name.
You will be asked for the password the first time which is public unless you changed it.. please remember to save this in the keychain.
Copy files then to a new directory you create on the TC.. do not place files inside the TM sparsebundle. Nor directly under the main directory.

I was using iReport v0.5.0 and it uses jasperreports-0.6.7.jar (v0.6.7) of
JasperReports. I compiled and i deployed my application in BEA weblogic server. I got the error listed below. Only after i saw your
response explaining that iReport was the issue, i checked the iReport lib directory and found this version of jasperreport jar.
iReport creates a java source file which is used to a jasper file.
iReport will link in the v0.6.7 version of jasperReports. When you
deploy your web application it will recognize this version through the compiled jasper file and give you the InvalidClassException, even
though you only have one jasperReport jar deployed with your war file.
The way i fixed this problem was to create my web application with the
jasperreport jar comes with iReport.

I keep getting the error "zotero could not be installed because firefox cannot modify the needed file". Any suggestions on how to fix this?

After downloading Zotero (a plug in that is in theory custom-designed for firefox), I get an error message that says "zotero could not be installed because firefox could not modify the needed file". That's all the detail I have.

You get this error if you install an extension that needs to be unpacked in order to work properly, but this isn't happening. The default is to copy the file to the extensions folder and rename the file part to the ID of the extension.

You can try to set the extensions.alwaysUnpack pref(s) on the about:config page to true.
It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.

If you see disabled or not compatible extensions in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left end side of the Search Bar to check if there is a compatibility update available.

Error: "FT DeepDark 11.3.1 could not be installed because Firefox cannot modify the needed file." What does this mean?

In an earlier version (Firefox v.31) on this, and (presently) on two other PC's, I was/am able to run add-on FT DeepDark 11.3.1 without any problems. It was only recently - after updating to v.32.0.3 on this PC that this situation started. The PC in question is a Dell Dimension 8400 Intel P4 running Windows 7, though I'm thinking it may have something to do with the newer version of Firefox. Could anyone help me with this? I like this add-on because it is easier in my eyes when browsing the internet. Thanks
PS: Attempted to install the troubleshooter, and again I received a similar error: "Troubleshooter could not be installed because Firefox cannot modify the needed file."

Please read that bug I linked you to and let me know if the last comment in the bug solves your problem. Apparently the problem is about the addon .xpi file being read-only. Try right-clicking it, going to Properties and unchecking the "Read-only" attribute box at the bottom of the dialog. Click Apply, then OK.

How to find out a list of modified objects in an SAP system

Hi all, not sure if this is the right place to ask.
In preparation for an upcoming upgrade of a SAP 4.6c system, I have been asked to generate a list of SAP objects that have been modified over the years.
Is there a table or a report that I can use to find this out? Thanks!

That is usually caused by Firefox not unpacking the extension.
You can try to set the Boolean pref extensions.alwaysUnpack to true on the about:config page.
To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website. 
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page. 
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default via the right-click context menu if they are user set
*Preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean)

Distribute eps objects with file list and quantity

Here's a script i wrote so I share it for the contribution.
Here's my purpose. Every year, for a customer of our company, we have to print several description plates for their products. They give us about 30 or more texts, traduced in about 7 languages, and an excel file with quantities that each retail seller of each country do want to receive.
We print these aluminium plates on a uv cured ink printing machine which have a table dimension of about 60x40cm. Preparing manually every files of 60x42cm to print was way too much time devouring, so i wrote that script.
Before running this script you have to create a folder with your text files in eps, and create a new document with the dimension you want.
Don't hesitate if you want more precisions with the process.

This script allows you to import EPS files as linked files. It distributes them and centers the all according to the dimension of the artboard of your document, then it saves the file.
You can define everything in the start list : target folder, basename of the destination files, how much objects per sheet you want, the roation if necessary, spacing between each objects, number of culumn for the distribution.
If you want to distribute a number of objects that is bigger thant the limit of objects per sheet, the script reports the remaining in a new sheet after saving the previous one.
The first 2 arrays contains the filenames to use in the source folder and their respective quantity.

How do I modify a PDF file that I created

I'm using Adobe Acrobat Pro X with Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
From Adobe I selected 'Create' and choose 'PDF from File' and I selected a Word document.
Adobe converted the Word document to a PDF and it look great!!!!!
I want to modify the PDF file and change the 'text', but it will not let me.
Will I have to convert the Word document to a PDF everytime I want to change 'text'?

If you are saying you created a form from the DOC file, that may be a bit of an issue. First, you would generally edit the label in just the way that was mentioned with the text edit tool. However, it may depend on how you created the form. The creation process is important and that may be the problem. If it was created with the Designer tool, then you can not edit anything in Acrobat. Designer creates a XML form that is not compatible with the Acrobat tools. You may be able to edit it in Designer, but not Acrobat. You should still be able to go back to WORD and recreate the PDF.
If you created the form manually and don't want to deal with recreating the fields, the print the WORD doc to a new PDF using the Adobe PDF printer. Then open your form and use Replace pages to put the revised document behind the fields. The fields will remain intact.
Again, if the form was created in Designer, you may have to do such changes in Designer.

You need the fla file that created the swf. You edit the fla and publish the swf. Swf's don't usually involve css styles.

I haven an ADF Shuttle component in my jsp screen , How can i change the width for the two boxes without modify the skin files.(I know i can do that by skin but what i want to change one shuttle just in one screen not change all shuttles on other screens).

Okay, I didnt try with the trinidad selectmanyshuttle, but this worked for me on the af:selectmanyshuttle..

Problem when modifying the jar file of a portal component

I get the umelogonbase.jar from the com.sap.portal.runtime.logon component, extract it with winzip, do not make any changes to the source code, then re-create the jar file and add it back to the component. Now, when I deploy the component to the Portal I get the following error:

any idea what I am doing wrong here?
I am doing this because I need to change the texts in the umelogonbase.jar, so this is the first step to see that the component still runs once I modify the jar file.
Note: I create the jar file by creating a jar-type project in NWDS and then exporting the project as jar.

Do you have JDK installed? If not then please install it by downloading from http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html. Install it in your local machine. Then inside the installation folder\bin folder you will find the jar.exe.
Also create the environment parameter named JAVA_HOME and set the value as the installation directory of JDK for example JAVA_HOME=C:\j2sdk1.4.2_13. Also add the following to your Path environment variable
C:\j2sdk1.4.2_13\bin;C:\j2sdk1.4.2_13\lib;
these path names should vary depending upon your actual JDK installation folder name.
