Modify standard table in enhancement spot

Hi Experts,
I am using userexit_move_field_to_vbap enhancement spot.
my piece of code -
XVBAP-ABGRU = 'ZP'.
MODIFY XVBAP.
I am getting dump. I want to know how to update a standard table in enhancent spots. Here i am tring to update XVBAP-ABGRU with ZP for the corresponding sales order.
Please help me <removed by moderator>.

In this user exit you should change the field values of structure VBAP,not internal table XVBAP.
VBAP-ABGRU = 'ZP'.

.APPEND structures AND CUSTOMIZING INCLUDES.
these are the two methods.. but customizing includes we, as a developers do not use.
generally we use .APPEND structures to modify standard tables.
note that we need an access key to modify atandard tables.
we can create an apend structure and add that structure to the standard table at the end.
note that .append structures should only be added only at the end.
that is the reason we use .append structures to modify standard tables.as we should not include a field in the middle and disturb the original order of the standard table fields as it may effect many objects depending on the standard table.
but Some standard tables for which there is a LONG datatype field can never be modified.
the reason is the LONG datatype field should always be there at the end and also .APPEND strutures should always be there at the end. there will be a conflict. so, some standard tables can not be appended.

Indentifing standard table

Activate Standard Enhancement using Enhancement Spot

I am trying to activate Standard Enhancement objects provided in the Standard Transactions, but unable to activate it.
Can u pl. share any documentation through which i can use standard code by modifying at predefined enhancement spots.
Like in transaction "WPS1" it call function module MEB_FUNC_ACTIVE

Any enhancement related to Model/Service Implementation which includes adding of custom code/manual code, then it has to be done in MPC_EXT & DPC_EXT class.
The reason is when ever u change the Model or Service implementation in your GW Service builder, again run-time object should be regenerated in-order to incorporate the new changes.During this time your MPC & DPC will be loaded with the new code.If at all if u had any manually written code directly in MPC/DPC then that code gets over written with the new code.
So changes to be done always in MPC_EXT/DPC_EXT classes.
I do not see any blog as such about the topic u r asking, its just that u need to do necessary declarations, redefine the appropriate methods and add ur custom code to enhance the standard code generated by service builder.

Modify the Field Type of standard Table fields in a Query

Hello. I have a question.
Is there a way to "modify" the field type for standard table fields that are included in a Query?
I made a simple query out of a join of tables, but several fields have a lot of decimals, and I would like to present them in the query without any decimals, just as a regular "N" field.
I tried the possibility of creating extra local fields where all I do is transfer the value to the new "N" field, but I have many fields like this, so if there's a better way; I'd prefer that.
Maybe somewhere in the InfoSet there's a way to modify the type of the standard table fields?

Creating enhancement spot in the standard program

Can we create our own enhancement spot in the standard program?

Yes you can create your own enhancement point. But SAP should have provided the space to create it.
In every standard program SAP has provided some spaces to create your own enhancement points.
In order to check these spots
Click on the ICON looks like Masquito coil just left to the syntax check icon then go to the following path
EDIT->Enhancement operation->Show Implicit enhancements.
when you select that path it will show you the implicit enhancements with doble commas
right click on that and select Enhancement operation->Create

Hi Kalyan,
It is not advisable to update standard tables directly or through your own module pool programs also. The reasons are,
1. It is difficult to find out how many tables are updated through the transaction. if we leave one table also as Mr.Andrew said data integrity will be lost.
2. Authorization objects and profiles will be totally bypassed if data is inserted through custom programs.
3. Complete data validation is not possible. There are certain validations that are executed through code and appropriate errors and warnings are shown in the transactions. If we insert data directly to the tables anything can be inserted into the table field violating all the validations unless we have field level check constraints on the tables at database level.
4. User Exits and BADIs that are implemented for specific business requirements and checks will not function on the data.
5. Update & Transaction locks will not work properly.
Due to above reasons, definitely you should avoid updating standard tables directly.
There are many tools such as LSMW Recordings, BDCs, BAPIs, IDOCs, Upload Interfaces available in SAP through which bulk data can be updated without using relevant transactions.
You can collect data from end users in text or excel sheets or through custom programs in required format and upload at once through above mentioned tools.

The system asks for access key only of two reasons:
1) You may be having problem of access rights. You would have to contact basis peopl.
2) You may try to name an object not complying with the rules. You may have to check with the same.

you can also try via transaction OSS1
In your Inbox, click on 'Registration', then on 'Register Objects', then you will have to choose your installation and give details about your object.
The details you can get by going to your object and clicking on 'Change' - the pop-up screen which asks you for the access key gives you all the details you need to fill in on OSS1 to get your key.

After getting into the site,select quicklinks, then click s to goto SSCR, in
that select registration,
after giving the proper details, u can get the access key

I have implemented an enhancement spot in standard report program and export the data to some memory id. But the problem is when i am trying to execute the standard report the internal table which i want to export has entries. When i execute the custom program the tables does not has data. What is the problem and how can i solve that.

Effect
: This statement defines an explicit enhancement option at the current position in the program at which a source code enhancement can be made. In program generation, the source code plug-ins of the assigned enhancement implementation that are available in the current system and have a switch in the status stand-by or on, are inserted at this position.
If the addition STATIC is not specified, the source code enhancement is dynamic. This means that in program execution, only those source code plug-ins are executed whose switch has the status on. If a source code plug-in does not have a switch assigned to it, it is handled in the same way as a plug-in with a switch in the status on.
With enh_id, an ID must be specified directly for the enhancement option, which is unique in the current compilation unit without the addition INCLUDE BOUND, and with this addition, is unique in current Include program. At least one enhancement spot must be assigned to the enhancement option using the specification simple enhancement spots spot1, spot2, and so on.
Within enhancements, one or more source code plug-ins can be created for one enhancement option. A source code plug-in is created by the assignment of an enhancement implementation in the Enhancement Builder. This automatically generates an empty source code plug-in with a unique ID, which is displayed underneath ENHANCEMENT-POINT in the Editor, where the actual enhancement can be implemented between ENHANCEMENT and ENDENHANCEMENT.
A source code plug-in is assigned to only one enhancement option. Multiple source code plug-ins of one enhancement implementation and the source code plug-ins of multiple enhancement implementations can be assigned to one enhancement point.
Notes
: In the terminology of the enhancement concept, the statement ENHANCEMENT-POINT includes both the enhancement spot element definition and the enhancement spot invocation of the enhancement option.
The statement ENHANCEMENT-POINT can either be entered directly or created by choosing Edit ? Enhancement operations ? Create enhancement in the Enhancement Builder. After the program has been saved or created using Edit ? Enhancement operations ? Create enhancement, the statement can only be deleted by choosing Edit ? Enhancement operations ? Delete enhancement.
In addition to the enhancement options explicitly specified by ENHANCEMENT-POINT, ABAP programs also contain implicit enhancement points, which can also be enhanced using source code plug-ins.

: The addition STATIC is used to define a static source code enhancement. In a static source code enhancement, all incorporated source code plug-ins are taken into account when the program is executed, including those whose switch is in the status stand-by.

: The STATIC addition is intended for the enhancement of data declarations, while the statement ENHANCEMENT-POINT without the STATIC addition is designed for the enhancement of executable coding. When the statement is executed using Enhancements ? Create enhancement, the addition is set according to this selection.
Addition 2
... INCLUDE BOUND
Effect
: This addition can be entered in Include programs. It links the source code enhancement to the current Include program. Each program that incorporates an Include program only includes the source code enhancements that are defined with this addition. Source code enhancements created using the INCLUDE BOUND addition have their own namespace in each Include program. This ensures that if several Include programs are integrated into one compilation unit, no namespace conflicts arise, either between Include programs, or with the source code enhancements of the compilation unit.
Without the addition INCLUDE BOUND, a source code enhancement is assigned to only one compilation unit. If the statement ENHANCEMENT-POINT is executed in an Include program without this addition, a compilation unit must be assigned to it in the Enhancement Builder.
Note
: In an Include program, Include-bound and non-Include-bound source code enhancements can not be defined at the same time. This also applies if an Include program incorporates other Include programs.
Enhancement points are points provided by sap in standard programs to modify the source code. Go to any standard program, Locate the spiral button on the toolbar. Then press it and then navigate to edit->enhancement operations->display enhancement point menu. Then a no of yellow lines would appear, which are the available en points. You would have to change it and write the applicable source code.

Loop at itab into wa.
modify makt from wa.
endloop.
I even can not debug the loop...

You can definitely modify Standard Database table from ABAP Program.
1.Syntax for modifying Database table from Workarea is,
MODIFY dbtab FROM workarea.
Effect
When a wa work area that is not table-type is specified, which meets the requirements for use in Open SQL statements, a line is searched for in the database table that has the same content in the primary key as the corresponding beginning part of the work area.
If such a line is not found, a new line is inserted according to the same rules as for the INSERT statement.
If such a line is found, this line is overwritten according to the same rules as for the UPDATE statement.
If the change would lead to a double entry in a unique secondary index, then it is not executed and sy-subrc is set to 4.
Notes
The wa work area should always be declared with reference to the database table or the view in the ABAP Dictionary.
If the the database table or view is specified statically, then you the specification of the work area using FROM wa can be ommitted outside of classes if a dbtab table work area is declared for the corresponding database table or for the view using the TABLES statement. The system enhances the MODIFY statement implicitly with the FROM dbtab addition.
Eg. :
DATA message_wa TYPE t100.
message_wa-sprsl = 'EN'.
message_wa-arbgb = 'MYMSGCLASS'.
message_wa-msgnr = '100'.
message_wa-text = 'Some new message ...'.
MODIFY t100 FROM message_wa.
2. Syntax for changing Database table from internal table is ,
MODIFY dbtab FROM TABLE itab.
Effect
If an itab internal table is specified, the system processes all lines in the internal table according to the rules for the wa work area. The line type of the internal table has to meet the requirements for use in Open SQL statements.
If the change to a line in the internal table would lead to a double entry in a unique secondary index, the corresponding line is not inserted and sy-subrc is set to 4. If the internal table is empty, sy-subrc is set to 0. The sy-dbcnt system field is always set to the number of lines that were actually processed

ENHANCEMENT SPOT ERROR- INTERESTING !!!

Dear All,
I am Enhancing the standard PR05 Tcode inside an include MP56TF90(Which updates the cluster and creates the Trip number) in a subroutine FORM update_cluster.
I have to insert some lines of code before the statement : DATA: p_return TYPE i.(Which means before update_te_cluster.)
And, Some lines of code after the cluster is updated, trip created ie after MESSAGE s185 WITH te-key-reinr.
Thanks to SAP that it has provided implicit enhancement points at both these points.
I successfully created 2 enhancement implementations at these 2 points are included my code at the 2 respective positions.
Now, I have an IF condition in the upper part_.If the condition is met, then the cluster should not be updated_ and hence before DATA: p_return TYPE i. I am putting an ELSE statement and the first enhancement implementation end here after ELSE.
If the condition is not met, then the cluster needs to be updated after ELSE statement and thereyby I am putting the ENDIF statement at the ned of the 2nd enhacement implementation ie., before ENDFORM. "update_cluster.
As the IF and ENDIF are present in 2 different enhancement implemetations, the system gives an error as follows:-
+In the coding for a non-static enhancement and for a non-static ENHANCEMENT-SECTION, the control structures (IF, CASE) must be closed...+
*And, I have no Option but to do it as above to meet the customer requirement ...ie., If SUPPOSE I do ENDIF in the first part only and remove the endif from 2nd part, then the condition is ofcourse being met but the control comes down and updates the cluster as well (WHICH SHOULD NOT HAPPEN !)*
Any comments on this piece ?

Hi Roby,
Once the interface for an enhancement spot is created you have to delete it completely as some part of it would still exist if you just delete it from se24 or se18.
the classes which actually implements the interface or enhancement spot / implementations at times are left and thats why when you create it again it will not ask you for Package assignment if you will observe.
So i will suggest to try checking the Spot components from se80 transaction and delete it completely. Also check if the entry still exists in tadir table which i am sure will be there even after you delete as i also encountered the same issue once.
Thats why i suggested you to create it with a new name for E-spot and interface too and check otherwise may be change the tadir entry as well.

I will share some basic knowledge on them
Enhancement points are regions where can insert our code to suit customer needs...Spots are subsets of points and created inside these points..for an enhancement point multiple active spots can exist
For enhacement-sections : the main idea is to provide a spot to customise the existing process..eg:SAP has done a select criteria..but you need to filter it more by adding a where condition..in that case SAP suggests using Enhancement sections..At any time the first active enhancement section works...even if multiple sections are created(though ideally multiple sections are not allowed to be created)..if you do the procedure below you can see that enhancement-section when a spot is created for it...the code in the parent section is copied and given in the editable mode
Creating spots implementations for points/sections are given below................................................................
to Create a spot in the standard code...click on the spiral icon..screen changes to a different color...place cursor on ENHANCEMENT-POINT/ENHANCEMENT-SECTION keyword of the spot you require to create implementation for...righ click -> "enhancement implementation -> "create" -> a table control comes -> at the bottom "CREATE" button to be clicked" ...give a name and text in customer name space and save -> select the same name just given in the table control ..press 'Tick' .....you will get a space where code can be written..write the code.....save and activate
