Modifying where clauses for View Objects in Backing Beans

In studying the RichTable class I saw no get/set methods that would allow me to manipulate the underlying view instance and rowset for the table in the Backing Bean. I know there is a way to do it, but I having great difficulty in finding it. The tutorials show how to build view objects and display them, but I haven't seen a tutorial that show how to respond to events from the Web page and directly change the data model and what is displayed via the backing bean.
Can some one point to a tutorial or give me an example on how I can change a view object via a backing bean?

What you want to do is add a method to your View Object Implementation class that changes the WHERE clause with setWhereClause or addWhereClause. Expose the method to your client. Then call the method from your page by binding it to a commandButton or commandLink. You can bind it through a pageDef file or a backing bean.

    My requirement is explained below -
         I have a ADF editable table in a jsf page which is connected to backend database table. In the table there are 6 columns and only 2 are editable. So when user inputs a value in first input column an event is triggered such that the data for all the remaining columns should be fetched from another database table.
    Typically if we are not using ADF development environment. We would have had a simple business method which creates the sql query by taking the input from textbox with simple where clause and I would have got the data. I am not getting any idea how to do this in ADF. I have the second table as view object but how to access the view object from backing bean and get data based on the input given.

    step 1) Expose a method on the ViewObject Impl class
    step 2) define arguments for the method as needed to identify the row to read data from
    step 3) retrieve the row from the VO that holds the data you want to add and return a HashMap with this information
    step 4) expose the method on the client interface (Java menu selection on the View Object)
    step 5) In the PageDef file, create a method binding to the method you exposed on the ViewObjectImpl
    step 6) Call the method binding from the managed bean like
    OperationBinding getDataFromVO = (OperationBinding) BindingContext.getCurrent().getCurrentBindingsEntry().get("Name of method binding);
    getDataFromVO.getParamsMap().put("name of arguments1", value1);

    1. Create a PageDef file for the page (right mouse click "Go to Page Definition")
    2. In the Executable section, create an iterator for the View Object
    3. In the managed bean:
    BindingContext bctx = BindingContext.getCurrent();
    BindingContainer bindings = bctx.getCurrentBindingsEntry();
    DCIteratorBinding iter = (DCIteratorBinding ) bindings.get("name of Iterator");
    iter.execute();
    // ... navigate the iterator rows ...//

    -When you edit (or create) your bind variable, in the dialog, 'Variable' tab, you have 'Value type' (two radio buttons) as 'Literal' or 'Expression'
    Choose Expression, and set value as
    adf.context.pageFlowScope.whateverAttr
    So take value from pageFlowScope for example. Of course, in order to use that value, you must at first put some value to that scope, for example:
        ADFContext.getCurrent().getPageFlowScope().put("whateverAttr", someValue);

  • Group by, setting where clause in View Objects

    I have a problem with View Objects in BC4j. Cause I cannot use a column in the where clause of a view object that is not also an attribute of the view object, I am unable to group a statement as I want to. Is there a way to solve this problem?

  • ADF BC / parametrized where clause in view object

    Did something change is this area ?
    I testing using bind variables (as parameters) definition in my view object but i got this error during execution in the component browser
    (oracle.jbo.expr.JISyntaxError) Variable to_number not recognized
    Some of my variables are defined with default value as expression to_number( null ).

    The easiest way to set an entity attribute as the current date is to mark the attribute as a history attribute, and choose createdOn as the history type.
    If you want to use a groovy expression, you can use:
    DBTransaction.currentDbTime
    to reference the current database time.
    Or, the simplest way currently to reference the current JVM time in the correct format for an oracle.jbo.domain.Date to accept it as a default would be to create a class like:
    import java.sql.Timestamp;
    import oracle.jbo.domain.Date;
    public class ADF {
      public static Date getCurrentDate() {
        return new Date(Date.getCurrentDate());
      public static Date getCurrentDateWithTime() {

    One way to achieve this is, add a method in your vo which does something like this
      public void customSortBy(String columnName){
      this.setOrderByClause(columnName);
      this.executeQuery();
      }Expose this method as client interface and add it to your pagedef as method binding.
    Once you are done, you can execute method from backing bean by passing the sorting parameter according to your need.

  • ADF dynamic where clause for VO query using BC

    I'm hoping someone can help me out. I have a read only view object that I want to filter results based on some user choices. For example the user may want to see all results or they may only want to see a much smaller subset. This is for an error dashboard, the smaller subset maybe by application or maybe by application and by error severity. I think I can use a dynamic where clause but I'm not sure, Can someone get me started down the right path, or post an example that I can see.

    You can use a dynamic where clause for this, but maybe there is a more practical option. Maybe you can have a fixed where clause, but using a bind parameter, like:
    vo.application like :applicationParam. This makes an executeWithParams method available that you can call from your page, and use in the bindings. This parameter you can populate with the results of for example a poplist, with a default value of '%'.
    When you do want to use a dynamic where clause, you will need to add a method to the java code of your application module, and make this method available for the client. In this method, you can use findViewObject to retrieve your VO, use VO.setWhereClause to set the whereclause to what you want, and then call VO.executeQuery. This method can then again be called from the page.

  • How to build sql query for view object at run time

    Hi,
    I have a LOV on my form that is created from a view object.
    View object is read-only and is created from a SQL query.
    SQL query consists of few input parameters and table joins.
    My scenario is such that if input parameters are passed, i have to join extra tables, otherwise, only one table can fetch the results I need.
    Can anyone please suggest, how I can solve this? I want to build the query for view object at run time based on the values passed to input parameters.

    As I understand you want to change the query at run time.
    If this is what you want, you can use setQuery Method then use executeQuery.

    Thanks for your reply. Just one more question....if we indeed are trying to use
    a simple query and have a where clause like "select * from x where upper(x) like
    {x}", how do we set the UPPER filter on the column using the database filter?
    I see a IDENTIFIER.ISUPPER static field on that DatabaseFilter but am unsure how
    to use it. Would appreciate any pointers .

    when i execute this command after importing .dat file from my database i get error:
    Error: Syntax error in where clause for PSOPRDEFN

    That is correct.
    Datamover tries to insert data in PSOPRDEFN and rows exist with these keys.
    To avoid this you can add the following statement in your script:
    SET UPDATE_DUPS;
    This will update the values other than the keys if a row already exists in the database with the keys in the dat file.

    In the following of dynamic where clause?
    i have some somewhat different problem.
    Is a dynamic where clause for multiple values possible?
    If the inputvariable varCode1,varCode2,varCode3,varCode4 are 0 then show all id's otherwise filter the resultset on var1 and/or var2,and/or var3,and/or var4.
    Example table:

  • Where clause for TaskLOVVO on OTL Timecard

    Hi,
    Following is the customization on our OTL timecard layout(Projects and Payroll Layout):
    ->Extended TaskLOVVO and based on a value selected in TaskLOV, i am defaulting Hours type.
    The dynamic where clause for the TaskLOVO is taken care of by the below QUALIFIER_ATTRIBUTES(Same as seeded layout)
    QUALIFIER_ATTRIBUTE14 = "HxcCuiTaskProjectId|PROJECT|Y#HxcCuiTaskProjectNumber|PROJECT-DISPLAY|Y"
    QUALIFIER_ATTRIBUTE15 = "project_id = ::HxcCuiTaskProjectId#upper(project_number) = upper(::HxcCuiTaskProjectNumber)"
    But in some scenarios the dynamic layout is not getting appended to TaskLOVO and the query behind the TaskLOV is pulling too many records.
    This issue is happening on Fridays when around 15000 employees submit the timecards, as Friday is our deadline for Timecard submission.
    I have tried different scenarios to replicate this issue in test intances but I am not able to replicate it.
    Please suggest what could be the issue and why is the whereclause is not getting appended in some scenarios.

  • WHERE clause for Materialized View

    Hi,
    We are replicating a very large table from Production. The table is approx 40Gb in size and so the DBA's are very reluctant to do a full replication as it could bring down the production server (I'm a developer so I'm going on faith this is correct).
    I have been looking for a way to limit the number of columns that I need, approx 1 weeks data is enough to begin with. The table has a column txntimestamp which I am trying to use in the WHERE
    create materialized view FWWIPTRANSACTION                                                                                                                                                
    refresh fast on demand   with rowid 
      as select * from WLOS_OWNER.WAFPROD_FWWIPTRANSACTION
    where txntimestamp > '20/06/2009 07:00:00'But I recieve the error
    ORA-12015: cannot create a fast refresh materialized view from a complex queryDoes anyone know a way around this? This is the only date field I can use and pretty much the only viable option to limit the number of rows.

          where txntimestamp > '20/06/2009 07:00:00';to work, does this mean every time this MV refreshes it brings across everything since that date or merely the new rows since the last refresh? If so I will need a rolling clause i.e. sysdate - 30
