Monitor apps in Azure for e.g. sitecore webapps

We have deployed SiteCore applications in azure. We use Azure IaaS and not PaaS services.  So is there a way for us to monitor the sitecore apps through SCOM? if so, how can we set up the SCOM infrastructure - in terms of servers we need, AD set up
etc., Currently we don't Sync AD with azure. Azure is separate where IT remote into the VM and develop apps and publish to different region and we are using traffic manager (not CDN).  As we finish the sitecore deployment, we need to find a way to monitor
the apps and sql databases etc., what's the best practice? thankyou

System Center Operations Manager is still our flagship monitoring product - largely due to the richness and breadth of its management packs
http://aka.ms/mpcatalog that cover most well-known off the shelf workloads and monitor them without your staff needing to be an expert on each of those technologies.
It is supported to run it in Azure and use it with Azure IaaS VMs if you want to do so.
Operations Manager also included some APM technology - this scenario later evolved into AppInsights, largely targeting Developer scenarios for custom-built applications, and it provides additional capabilities in the APM space: instrumentation for your Web
application/pages and Windows Phone/Store app to show usage, performance and availability. Also look at the thread here
https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/azure/en-US/fff4c467-fb4f-4f22-9ad1-b118d31c281a/azure-operationalapplication-insights?forum=opinsights
Operational Insights is a log intelligence solution for ITPro's for analyzing servers and server logs and provides out of the box insight into several aspects of the server, from configuration changes, log reporting, update and malware assessment, SQL assessment
etc. It also provides a way for you to quickly search through the collected data.
This is valuable on its own, but also makes for a great complement to OpsMgr since it helps with all sort of slicing and dicing and troubleshooting scenarios that need large volumes of data, which OpsMgr's databases and consoles weren't optimal to deal with;
at the same time OpsMgr provides real time alerting today, which for OpInsights is a future item in the backlog
http://feedback.azure.com/forums/267889-azure-operational-insights/suggestions/6519198-long-running-saved-searches-or-scheduled-that-ca - but OpInsights can work as a modern 'web console' to triage OpsMgr alerts with the alert management intelligence pack
http://blogs.technet.com/b/momteam/archive/2014/11/12/manage-your-operations-manager-alerts-from-azure-operational-insight-with-the-new-alert-management-intelligence-pack.aspx and even on the go thru the mobile app
http://blogs.technet.com/b/momteam/archive/2014/11/24/access-your-operational-insights-on-the-go.aspx
As you said, there are various options, and the landscape is evolving rapidly - the best one choice, or a combination of these - i.e. see this thread
https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/azure/en-US/50ecdf2e-0e35-4fba-927a-5ba52f726405/add-operational-insights-to-cloud-service-during-publish?forum=opinsights is the one that works for you, your workloads, your application, and the way your teams work.

  • Wanting to develop iOS app on Azure for sharing recorded audio stories/narratives

I'm about to start developing an app for iPhone (and eventually Android) that should allow users to:
    -record audio narratives
-upload those audio narratives to azure
-browse and listen to the audio narratives that others users have uploaded
-I really want to be able to stream these narratives for playback instead of just downloading or doing a progressive download
I've been trying to use Azure and its media services to achieve this, but I really haven't found any good documentation for audio streaming, especially with iOS/objective-c.  There seems to be a lot on video streaming, but nothing on audio.
I'm not an inexperienced developer, but I have never messed with media streaming, and I am fairly new to iOS.  Any suggestions? Is Azure the right way to go? Do I really need to stream or would progressive download really be good
enough in my case? Would I be able to get far enough using the video streaming tutorials? (ie, is the code for streaming video and audio pretty much the same?) Are there any other third party services or APIs that would work well to accomplish
this in conjunction with Azure? Any other insights or links to documentation would be great.  The only real constraint is that we want to do this on iOS first (vs switching to Android or other platform, though eventually we do want to expand
    to other platforms).  Thank you!

Unfortunately, the burden is on the app developers to make their stuff fit with the iOS, not on Apple to accommodate them. Uninstalling and reinstalling is probably your only fix. And if their app isn't compatible with iOS7, then you may be needing to look for a new app.
I'd just go ahead and delete it and reinstall it. Chances are that file either isn't there or is corrupt and won't work anyway.

  • For the average person what really is the point of the activity monitor app when all you really want to know is whether your mac is running at its best?

I have had my imac for nearly 18 months now,
It's okay, is the best I can say about it.
    It cost me around £800+
So recently (and foolishly!) I downloaded OS Mavericks when I was actually looking for a freebie word processor programme (I got Bean because it's simple like me.)
Now the point of all this is that Mavericks has new features like a redesigned Safari (But I ain't noticed any difference yet) and Imaps (Huh!) and Ibooks and Imovie or something.
So when you are oldish like me, you really don't want people to keep changing and introducing new stuff (most of which is pointless anyway) all the time; because it takes us old ***** a while to get used to the last "improvement."
So you try and get rid of all these new apps that you don't want and didn't ask for anyway,
and then you find out you can't, because they're an integral part of the new OS.
    Brilliant!
Then you find that Mail has to redo itself and this thing no longer works properly etc. and you start wishing you hadn't got up that morning...
So you try and get it all back the way it was..
    And you can't.
Because you don't have an external hard drive to use the Time machine back up facility.
So you get in touch with Apple Support and it's now nearly bedtime, but at least you feel like you might be gettin' somewhere.
You talk to the supportguy and suddenly you can't remember what the problem is and what your name is, and you're thinking you might as well order in a pizza seein' as you've drunk the last of the gin..."
Anyway the guy manages to keep his temper and you get some degree of order restored but the machine still seems "jumpy" so someone says to you
"Check out the Activity Monitor! That'll tell you if something's not working right."
So you do, but it doesn't.
Just a bunch of numbers and CPU stuff and User Idiot Input etc.
All you really want is some little box to pop up and say,
"Hey! yyyou've really ssscrewed things upppp-p here, old mmmmman!!. This programme is no longer functioning properly, that thing appears to frozen, and you just wiped half your saved photos of Aunt Jessie's 94th birthday celebration (the one's where she had her eyes open)..
Press here for a full maintenance overview and repair menu.."
By this time you are on the floor, your leg's got cramp and you really really need a pee.
But there ain't no maintenance programme, just an activity monitor app you can't make any sense out of, so you yank the **** power cord out of the socket and go to bed..
    So you try and

Do you happen to have an Android?  If so and depending on what version there is a great data usage analyse tool built-in.  See if you can go to Settings -> Data Usage  from there you can pick a current or previous billing cycle and then use the vertical sliders to select a date range and it will filter the usage data per app to show you exactly what app(s) were using data during that time frame.

  • Is it possible to use SCOM 2012 R2 with the new Azure Managment Pack to monitor Aure Wadlog Events for azure sdk 2.5

My operations team has been using MOM 2007 and has recently migrated to SCOM 2012 R2.
Till now we are using Monitoring Pack management packs which were released way earlier (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=11324),
and had a dependency on diagonstics connection string being present in the cscfg of Azure package.
This pack was allowing us to monitor the wad logs and events generated by applications.
However we plan to move to newer Azure managemen pack (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=38414), which allows for discoverability.
    I have 2 questions -
Is it possible to monitor Diagonstics Event Log with the new Monitoring Pack released on 10/2014 ? Or will the users still require the earlier pack for monitoring diagnostics installed in parallel ?
Azure SDK 2.5 got rid of diagonstics connection string. Is there any possible way to Monitor of Azure Diagonstics wadlogs using SCOM 2012 R2
    Thanks,
    Pratush

    Hi Pratush,
I would like to suggest you go through the management pack guide to get details. And you should be able to create custom monitor to monitor event logs for Azure.

  • Looking for an app that allows for screen switching/maximizing

On my PC at work, I have an app that adds another button to the top menubar of all applications/windows. This button, when clicked, will move the window/application to the "other" monitor/display and can even maximize the window to fit the screen. is there an app like that for the Mac
I kinda need this right away - in a bit of a bind.
    Thanks

What do you use on the PC? would be useful when iTunes and others insist on always going to last monitor, even when it is no longer present.
Ah... Windows key + Shift + arrow key on Windows.
    Buit right in.
Most likely utility would be SwitchResX, but some features have been removed.
    Worth giving a try though.

  • Monitoring apps

Is there a monitoring app for the Iphone4 and Ipad?  Looking to monitor: texts, pictures, social media.

You can check the App Store, there are some parenting apps, but I don't think you will find one that allows you to see SMS content. They can delete SMS and you would not be able to recover them.
Some carriers provide some parenting applications with restrictions, but they usually cost money. Not sure they would even give you what you want. You may also want to look at the iPhone User Guide. It will provide you with information about the Restrictions section in Settings.
You can also ask them to show you their device for you to look at website history, but if there is that much distrust that you are going to be searching and/or monitoring the device, I'm afraid they will only take the time to delete this information from you.

  • Mobile Phone App and Azure MFA Server

I currently have directory sync enabled between my on-premise AD environment and Azure Active Directory, and also enabled multi-factor authentication on my profile. I installed PhoneFactor on my mobile device and am able to use it to verify my identity when
logging into my O365 OWA account.
I recently installed and configured the Multi-Factor Authentication Server to enable RADIUS requests for VPN connections, and have successfully tested MFA using the phone call method (when I connect via VPN client, I provide credentials, and receive a call
to verify my identity, press # and connection is accepted).
What am having trouble doing is using the mobile app as a method for verification. When I try to connect, I immediately receive 'Login Failed,' and there are no indications in PhoneFactor for an authentication request.
In the MFA Server logs, I see two entries:
No device configured for user '[email protected]'
PfAuth failed for user '[email protected]'. Call status: SKIPPED_USER_INCOMPLETE - "User lacks information required for phone auth".
I have read guidelines on creating a user portal within my network for self-registration, but I was hoping I could just use the Azure-provided portal.
Anyone have any ideas why this may be happening?

At present, the MFA Server user enrollment is completely separate from Azure AD. If you want to use the mobile app with the MFA Server, you need to install the User Portal so that users can generate activation codes and set their MFA method to mobile app.
Also, for users to activate their mobile apps, you have to install the Mobile App Web Service, which communicates with the MFA Server via the Web Service SDK to validate the activation code generated in the User Portal. Here are links for installing the User
Portal and Mobile App Web Service.

  • Worker role monitoring/diagnostics in Azure

    Hi,
I have trouble monitoring and reading diagnostics for my 6 different worker roles.
    - I "Enabled Diagnostics" and specified the right "storage account credentials"
    - I use Owin for the hosting of my worker roles and specify:
    config.EnableSystemDiagnosticsTracing();
    - In the Azure Cloud Platform, under "Configure", and then "monitoring", i got this:
    Level ->
This setting is not currently available.
    Retention (Days)
->This setting is not currently available.
    - In "monitor", when i try to add metrics i get an error:
"An error occur while retrieving cloud service metrics. Please try again in a few moments.
    Any ideas? Thanks!
    Ambroise

    hi Ambroise,
Did you select metrics form VS?
I suggest you could select some metrics and re-deployment your project to "Production". At the same time, I suggest you could log out the portal and logging in again.
    Please try it.
Any question, please let me know.

  • Bug found in Activity Monitor app

    Hello,
I think I've found a bug in Activity Monitor.
If you move the app from Applications/Utilities to Applications it will start up but the rainbow disk will spin forever, and the window will not be populated with data. Put it back into Utilities and it works again.
The issue is that the location of activitymonitord seems to be hardcoded to be in the Utilities folder.
The following steps are repeated endlessly:
    com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.ActivityMonitor[3061]): posixspawn("/Applications/_Utilities/Activity Monitor.app/Contents/MacOS/activitymonitord", ...): No such file or directory
    com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.ActivityMonitor[3061]): Exited with exit code: 1
com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.ActivityMonitor): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds

    Hello,
Thank you very much for your comment.
Well, I think those apps and utilities are probably not designed well then. It goes against UI expectations if you aren't allowed to make a subfolder in Applications or Utilities folders.
And, I have enough apps now that I need to make subfolders to keep it sane and quickly navigable.
The only app I've found so far which dies is Activity Monitor. In my case, I have been launching it often to figure out why the Mac crashes and hangs so often. Badly behaving apps like this (just crash, not retry endlessly!) and apparently a lack of a supervisory system to kill them is a problem I think with the Mac.
Thanks anyway, I lost this round I suppose!
    Matt

  • Activity Monitor.app won't open

I have researched this like crazy and nothing has worked.
I looked in my Console, and there are tons of iMovie errors(?) in there, and then there is one for the Activity Monitor that says:
    dyld: Library not loaded: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/GraphKit.framework/Versions/A/GraphKit
    Referenced from: /Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor.app/Contents/MacOS/Activity Monitor
    Reason: image not found
I ran 'repair permissions' and shut down the computer, restarted, and the Activity Monitor still will not open.
I also opened the Terminal and typed in this:
    ls -la /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/GraphKit.framework/Versions/A/GraphKit
    And it returned this:
    it returns this:
ls: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/GraphKit.framework/Versions/A/GraphKit: No such file or directory
But, being a new Mac user, I have no idea what this means.
I have tried everything, with no luck, and I am hoping someone here can help me.
    Thanks bunches! Jules
iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Intel Core 2 Duo

Just for future reference, should someone experience this:
I used the disk utility and repaired permissions.
Then I inserted the OS disk and 'updated' the XcodeTools for the system.
I then restarted the computer, and now I can open the Activity Monitor.
It had something to do with my installing that X11 dealie a week+ ago I am sure.
    HUGz! Jules

  • Why should we trust the web app pool account for delegation?

    Hello,
Can someone explain to me why we must trust the web app pool account for delegation in AD?
    here's what I understood:
    {Client computer}                                    {Web server}
    {SQL Server}
domain\user1 ---auth. on web portal ----> [web portal]-domain\appPool-> the appPool account takes the identity of user1
    correct ?
    Thanks !

To enable the MBAM Servers to authenticate communication from the Administration and Monitoring Website and the Self-Service Portal,
you must register a Service Principal Name (SPN) for the host name under the domain account that you are using for the web application pool. More via https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn645356.aspx?

  • Ipad monitoring app without jail break

i am in need of a monitoring app for my children's ipads and do not want to jailbreak them. i there are several apps that appear perfect for my needs, ie peektab, but they all require jail breaking. i've searched the app store and elsewhere online with no results. can anyone offer any advice or recommendations for such an app? thanks!

I don't know of anything like that but you can set up Restrictions to prevent them from changing settings or purchasing things without consent.

I tried to run standalone UCMA proxy app on azure and that did not work, anyone has such kind of experience?

  • Battery monitor app that shows ACTUAL drain

I see a lot of battery monitor apps that show a huge list of what the remaining time would be using certain features. I don't know what good this list of time is when you have a combination of them running.
I am looking for a battery monitor that shows what is ACTUALLY running on my iphone and what percentage it is contributing to the ACTUAL drain of my battery. If I have the bluetooth, WiFi and ipod running, I would like it shown in a list and the percentage it represents to the load (and possibly what added time I would gain by turning it off)
If the load of something running is really insignificant or absolutely required to have the phone operational, then it probably is not worth listing.
I want to have the question QUICKLY answered:
What can I turn off that is presently running to increase the remaining time on my battery?

Basically anything and everything running on the phone consumes power. A better place to start would be ask yourself what are the minimum services you need to have running? Once that is answered, turn everything else off.
If the load of something running is really insignificant or absolutely required to have the
phone operational, then it probably is not worth listing.
No one here can answer that for you. Example: Wifi and 3G are essential for me. But you might not need either.
