Monitor server services
Is there any way i can know automatically if my WebLogic Server started without any errors?
Our servers are starting at 4am and no one is in the office but we want to send an email if an error occurs so we can restart servers before 8am.
Try the change tracking intelligence pack in Operational Insights

I am assuming those 'servers' are Azure VM's (IaaS) ?
While we don't do real-time alerting yet (it's in our backlog - this item
http://feedback.azure.com/forums/267889-azure-operational-insights/suggestions/6519198-long-running-saved-searches-or-scheduled-that-ca ), you can compose your own tailored query in a dashboard and consume it also from mobile experience
http://blogs.technet.com/b/momteam/archive/2014/11/24/access-your-operational-insights-on-the-go.aspx or on the site.
We are in preview, let us know what you think and file ideas on the feedback forum

Hope that helps,

Monitor SQL Server service Broker queue status
I need to monitor SQL Server service Broker queue status. If the queue is disabled, send me an email alert.
Can you let me know what's the best way to accomplish it using SCOM?1) create a queue for notification
2) create a service on notification queue
3)Create an event notification for broker queue disable. Associate this with the queue that you are monitoring.
4)Create a procedure that send you and email with this event happens
Example:
---- Notification
CREATE
QUEUENotify_queue
-- Service
CREATE
SERVICE[http://queue_Notify]
ONQUEUENotify_queue([http://schemas.microsoft.com/SQL/Notifications/PostEventNotification]);
--Event
CREATE
EVENTNOTIFICATION[http://queue_Notify_event]
ONQUEUETarget_queue
FORBROKER_QUEUE_DISABLED
TOSERVICE'http://queue_Notify','current
database';
GO
procedure will be something like...
WAITFOR
RECEIVETOP(1)
@RecvReqMsgName=message_type_name,
@RecvReplyMsg=message_body,
@RecvReplyDlgHandle=conversation_handle
FROMNotify_queue),TIMEOUT5000
IF(@RecvReqMsgName='http://schemas.microsoft.com/SQL/Notifications/EventNotification')
BEGIN
DECLARE@cmdNVARCHAR(MAX)
SET@cmd='dbo.sp_send_dbmail
@profile_name="Name XYZ",
@recipients="[email protected]",
@body="CAST(@RecvReplyMsg as NVARCHAR(MAX)",
@subject="Queue Disabled Detected";'
EXEC
(@cmd)

Exporting report to PDF takes too long on Win 2k Advanced Server, Service Pack 4
Post Author: zaverit
CA Forum: .NET
We have written VB.Net program which extracts required information from the database in the memory and then based on the configuration, exports the data to PDF using below command
ExportToDisk(CrystalDecisions.[Shared].ExportFormatType.PortableDocFormat, outFile), where outFile is .pdf filename in same folder as the executable
The program is packaged in an MSI. It includes msvcr71.dll. When installed, this generated below assemblies;
CystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine
CrystalDecisons.Reportsource
CrystalDecisions.shared
When the report is run on a Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 2, it completes in about 4 minutes. Please see below for the specs of this workstation (Search for "Workstation Specs")
When the same report is installed on a Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Service Pack 4, it takes more than 2 hours. Please see below for the specs of this server (Search for "Server Specs")
Could someone point us to the problem please. We have tried following options;
checked out the dot net framework. The server and the w/s now have v2
installed adobe on the server (to ensure that there are no missing libraries or links)

ScreenSaver 02 [Have finally found a solution for this problem: http://serverfault.com/questions/490352 … w-to-start
Now the applications do start immediately via SSH X11 forwarding as expected.
The following three lines helped:
ip6tables -A INPUT -i lo -j ACCEPT
ip6tables -A OUTPUT -o lo -j ACCEPT
ip6tables -A FORWARD -i lo -o lo -j ACCEPT
While until now, all ip6 traffic has been forbidden (to drop all ip6 traffic) at the start of the system of course.
Nevertheless, I don't understand it, why the ip6 localhost has to be granted this way even if the /etc/ssh/sshd_config is configured for ip4 only "AddressFamily inet"?
I thought, that this way the sshd will be using ip4 protocol only (including for the X11 forwarding), then why does it still need the ip6? -
Error while Deploying Monitoring Server Reports!
Hi,
Trying to install the monitoring role with reporting services but must have missed one or several steps! :)
Have 1 standard edition server and 1 server running Lync monitoring and SQL (that I installed myself, hopefully correct)
Have installed SQL with instance LYNCSQL\LYNSQL (also checked the reporting services feature)
Have intalled the Standard Edition server
Have installed the Monitoring role
Now I want to "Deploy Monitoring Server Reports" from the Lync Server Deployment Wizard.
Specifying Monitoringserver with FQDN (the same server as the acctual SQL server)
Specifying LYNCSQL\LYNCSQL as the Instance\InstanceID
Specifying the systemaccount that I added during the SQL server installation
Don't specifying any usergroup
Receiving the following error:
Could not get objects from namespace root\Microsoft\SqlServer\ReportServer. The RPC server is unavailable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA)The RPC server is unavailable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA)Cannot get the ReportServerWebService
URL. Verify that Reporting Services is deployed and configured properly on the target SQL instance:"LYNCSQL\LYNCSQL", and that WMI is included on the exception list of firewall setting on the server that is running Reporting Services.Invalid parameter
Windows Firewall is Off!
SQL Server 2008 x64 SP2
When looking in the Lync Server Console I see green status of Standard Edition and the Monitoring Server, but from my LYNCSQL\LYNCSQL i have status of N/A.
Where to start? :)
Update:
Logged on to the Reporting services configuration manager and here are the settings:
Use Built in Account: Local System -> correct or should it be sys.lyncsql as I mentioned before?
Virtual Directory: ReportServer_LYNCSQL
URL: http://servername:80/ReportServer_LYNCSQL
SSL: Not SelectedHi,
Firstly, you need make sure Web Service URL and Report Manager URL could be opened in both Lync FE and SQL server.
If prompt authentication chanllenges you have to change the built in account with "Network Service".
Furthermore, make sure firewall is turned off when troubleshooting to rule out ports and connection issue.
Update let us know.

Hi Ben,
I have a similar problem where I cant deploy reports. Also, I´m prompted when trying to access /Reports and /ReportsServer using IE on reporting services server.
What do you mean with change the built in account with "Network Service ?

Issue when trying to deploy Monitoring Server Reports on Deployment Wizard
Hi all.
I have to install the Monitoring Server Role on a server that already has the Lync Server 2010 up and running.
I'm new to Lync Server so my experience with the product is limited, so I need some help with an issue.
I followed the Deployment Guide and for now I managed to do the following:
- Installed an SQL Server 2008 Standard with SP1 with SSRS also;
- Updated the Topology to include a Monitoring Server, and also published the new topology;
- Installed the new components of the monitoring server.
I can also refer that the SQL Server Instances and Lync Server Front-End are in the same server h where I'm installing the monitoring server, and there is only one Front End Pool.
As far as I can tell everything was successfully done, and I couldn't find any errors until now.
And finally the issue appeared when I wanted to deploy the Monitoring Server Reports to the Reporting Services Server.
In the deployment Wizard of the Lync Server 2010 the link for that option is disabled, no further information is given.
I tried to find on the ISO and .exe or .msi files that could deploy the reports, but could not find any.
I believe it isn't a problem of permissions of the user because i followed the documentation.
I hope someone can help me find the problem, and if possible a solution for it.
Best regards.Hi,
From your description above, it is a Lync Server 2010 Enterprise Edition and you deploy Monitoring Server in the same Server with FE Server.
If it is the case, you may meet unknown issues as you must deploy Monitoring Server on a separate Server. You can only collocate Monitoring Server with Archiving Server.
Please try to delete the Monitoring Server configuration in Lync Topology and then republish topology, and rerun Step 2. After these, please deploy Monitoring Server with a Separate Server and test if the issue happen again.

Monitor all services on all servers?
Hi all
I'm looking for the easiest way of monitoring all services with startupmode=auto and alerts when state!=running. I found this thread:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/dbb175c4-8ec0-4427-9d10-9382044144e7/monitor-all-windows-services-on-multiple-servers-and-recover?forum=operationsmanagerauthoring
So I took this code
Dim oAPI, oBag
Set oAPI = CreateObject("MOM.ScriptAPI")
Set oBag = oAPI.CreatePropertyBag()
strComputer = "."
Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:" _
& "{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!\\" & strComputer & "\root\cimv2")
Set colListOfServices = objWMIService.ExecQuery _
("SELECT * FROM Win32_Service WHERE StartMode = 'Auto' AND Started = false")
If colListOfServices.Count > 0 Then
For Each objService in colListOfServices
If strDesc = "" Then
strDesc = objService.Caption
Else
StrDesc = StrDesc & ", " & objService.Caption
End if
Next
Call oBag.AddValue("Description", strDesc)
Call oBag.AddValue("State", "BAD")
Else
Call oBag.AddValue("State", "OK")
End if
Call oAPI.Return(oBag)
I used this in a two state monitor I created in our SCOM 2012 environment. For starters it runs every 2 minutes, it's enabled, monitor target is Windows Server 2008 Operating System, it's set to generate alerts on warning, the Unhealthy expression is:
Property[@Name='State'] Equals BAD
And the Healthy Expression is:
Property[@Name='State'] Equals GOOD
Unfortunately I'm getting no alerts at all. And I dont think I have any way of seeing if it's actually discovering all the services? AND I have no previous experience with vb scripting, but do have some powershell experience.
Any suggestions on how to get this up and running please?
Update: I just got alerts from all servers:
Workflow Runtime: Failed to run a process or script
The process started at 11:25:%1 failed to create System.PropertyBagData, no errors detected in the output. The process exited with 1.
Command executed "C:\Windows\System32\cscript.exe" /nologo "Company.ServiceMonitoring"At the first point make sure that you are creating the service monitor in Authoring --> Management Pack Templates --> Windows Service.
The place where we change is within the discovery part and not monitor. Search for the text what you entered as Service Name while creating the service monitor. You should see something similar to this,

CSS 11501 7.40 Monitoring the services on real servers?
Hi,
Just want to ask some basic questions, How can i monitor the services (ie 80 and 443) of the real servers. So that when the CSS11501 detects that one of the services of one of the real servers is down, it will not forward the traffic to that server. Or is the CSS is configured to monitor the services by default?
Because we are planning to upgrade one of the webservers (web01) while web02 is running, if we shutdown the service 80 and 443, does it affect the end-user, will CSS automatically redirect it to web02?
Regards,
MarlonHere is my sample configuration

Monitor all service Start with the word "SAP"
Hallo
i have sccm 2012
Can monitor services start with the word "SAP"
Instead of monitoring all service set separately .
thanksHi,
Did some research and came to the following solution
Open the System Center Operations Manager Console.
Go to Authoring and expand Management Pack Templates
Right Click Windows Service and click Add Monitoring Wizard
On the Monitoring Type page select Windows Service and click Next
Give the Service and store the it in a New Created Management Pack and click Next
On the Service Name Type SAP* on the Target group Select Windows Server Computer Group and click Next
On the Performance Data page click Next
On the Summary page click Create
Export the Management Pack pack you created
In the Management pack replace the following code:
<DataSource ID="DS" TypeID="Windows!Microsoft.Windows.Win32ServiceInformationProviderWithClassSnapshotDataMapper">
<ComputerName>$Target/Property[Type="Windows!Microsoft.Windows.Computer"]/NetworkName$</ComputerName>
<ServiceName>sap*</ServiceName>
<Frequency>60</Frequency>
With the following code
<DataSource ID="DS" TypeID="Windows!Microsoft.Windows.WmiProviderWithClassSnapshotDataMapper">
<NameSpace>root\cimv2</NameSpace>
<Query>select * from win32_service where name like 'sap%'</Query>
<Frequency>60</Frequency>
Second replace
<Value>$Data/Property[@Name='BinaryPathName']$</Value>
With
<Value>$Data/Property[@Name='PathName']$</Value>
Save the management pack and upload it to System Center Operations Manager.
In the Operations Console Click Monitoring
Click Discoverd Inventory and change the target type to the target you created. Then the view should look something like this:
I created the management pack You can download it from here: http://www.ms-opsmgr.eu/wp-content/uploads/Download/2015/SAP/SAP.Services.xml

I have installed Project Server 2013 on SharePoint 2013, and installed the first PWA which worked. But I needed to change some configurations and so I deleted the PWA instances, but now I cannot delete the Project Server Service Application. Every attempt
to delete the Service Application it gives the error above, namely:
Sorry, something went wrong

Deploy Monitoring server issue
Hi All,
When i try to deploy the monitoring server this error message appear all the time
Cannot access LcsCDR or QoEMetrics on Monitoring back-end database
But LcsCDR and QoEMetrics are created.
Do you have encountered this issue, and know how to solve that?
ThanksHi,ODE AMA,
So now your question is Monitoring Server Reporting service deployment issue,right?
Make sure the account you used to deploy Monitoring Server reporting service has the required permission of your Monitoring Database,details you can check Terence Luk's
blog post.
Also please make sure the 1433 port is opened on your database server.

Need info on Cloning Server Services in BOXi3.1
Hi All,
I am looking for information on Cloning Server Services in BOXi3.1. The specific points that i am looking for are mentioned below:
1. How cloning is of advantage, specially in areas where we are facing network traffic?
2. Can we monitor WEBI server memory?
3. How to increase the WEBI server memory and will it improve the throughput time of the report?
Any help or pointers regarding the same would be of great help.
Thanks a lot in advance
Regards,
Honed Ali1. If you clone server to another box, network traffic will be balanced between original and new server
2. Not inside the product, yes by using third party utilities, like Task manager, prstat or top etc...
3. Xi3.1 is a 32 bit product, with memory limitations all 32bit products have, it can use up to 2gb of memory. Webi report server will stop accepting requests and recycle if it reach close to 2gb of memory.
Best advise here - do ot design huge or long running reports. -
Help removing Distributed Scan Server Service/Role
Hey,
I have this Role/Service enabled on one of our DC's that acting as a Printer Management Server, There's always a red X under Mange my Server under Print and Document Services.
I figured it be a no brainer, and I would just remove it since the red X indicates that the service is down, and we never use it so I don't see why its even installed. However when I goto remove the role, it asks for a reboot and then says it fails and reverts
the changes, and then reboots and then it auto tries again, and does the loop till the third time and windows noticed that it failed to remove the service and finally go back to normal boot.
Whats causing this, and what can I do to trouble shoot this issue? I have no idea where to start on this one? I couldn't find anything from googling "remove distributed Scan Server service" just kept bringing up how to install.. hahah
Thoughts? ThanksKool, Havin to clean up the old systems admins bazar setup is challenging. So Here's my latest findings.
No related logs under event viewer system logs...
Can specify domain account when configuring the scan service and can get it to start.
dism states removing feature then requires reboot, as does using server manager..
after reboot ... Configuring Windows Features ... 100%
Failed configuring features, reverting changes...
ALT + CTRL + Del to log in
system does a reboot (can't even log in)
and the process repeats... over n over 3 time stops tryin to configure feature and allows me to log in. Feature disabled and still installed.
The best thing I found I could do is select preferences beside the services roles, and uncheck the monitor checkbox and that removes the red warning X when the service is stopped. So my only option now is to let it sit and linger in the DC for the rest of
its life until I build a new DC sometime in the future.
Thanks for all your help it was worth a shot. I still never found out how to open/look through CBS.log
Just Note don't ever remove a feature through server manager, and before the restart run the dism remove command... it went into a repeated configure routine, and just got stuck saying configuring of windows feature failed, attempting to retry... which I never
seen before, and since I didn't have all night for this server to come back, I forced it for a reset, and it went through the normal failure routine and I was able to log in.... scary.... -
Microsoft Monitoring Agent Service on Management Servers - 2012R2
Hi,
Is the Microsoft Monitoring Agent Service supposed to be running on Management Servers?
I can't remember if I have added an agent by accident, or if this is part of the install.
Thx,
John BradshawWhen you install Management server, SCOM will automatic install Microsoft Monitoring Agent service. However, Microsoft Monitoring Agent service default installation path in Management server, c:\program files\Microsoft system Center 2012 R2\Operations
Manager\Server\health Service state, is different to ordinary agent machine which installation path is c:\program Files\Microsoft Monitoring Agent\Agent. Moreover, SCOM 2012 R2 uses Microsoft Monitoring Agent to collect and monitor server status and performance
whether they are SCOM agent or Management server.

SQL Server services having stop
We're using SQL server 2008 r2 but having lot of issues. My application running on SQL server but it stop everyday. SQL services stop then my application automatic hang then i restart the server then after my application work.
Hi harigaurav,
If SQL Server Services stop regularly every day, then you can check the Start Mode for the services in SQL Server Configuration Manager, check the Windows Scheduler or use some monitor tools to monitor SQL Server services status.
If SQL Server Services always stop unexpectedly, we can configure SQL Server Agent to restart the SQL Server and SQL Server Agent services automatically. To configure automatic service restart:
Open the SQL Server Management Studio Management folder, right-click the SQL Server Agent entry, and select Properties.
On the General page, select the Auto Restart SQL Server If It Stops Unexpectedly check box.
Here, you should also select the Auto Restart SQL Server Agent If It Stops Unexpectedly check box.
Click OK.
Thanks,

Monitoring RAC services in Windows
I have a 2 node RAC database installed on Win 2003. I've had the Database service go down a few times kind of "magically". I'm looking into the kind of magic that caused this (suspect it was a storage issue), but in the mean-time I need to send out an alert to someone if this goes down. Does anyone have a good way/tool to monitor OS services and send out an e-mail when one goes down?
Aren't you using grid control?
