Monitoring an applet on a thin client from the server

Hello all,
I'm not even sure if this is possible or not, but here is what I would like to do.
I want to be able to monitor an applet running on a remote thin client device from the central server to determine if there have been any problems (exceptions, device failures, etc).
I'll be using java 1.5.0. If you require more info please let me know.
Thanks,

But would anyone know if there is a similar method for applets?
What makes you think you can't use that technique in an applet? Use that, and contact the server when there's an uncaught exception.
You'll probably want to report a number of caught exceptions too (unless you're really bad at handling exceptions).
Best bet is to use a utility class on your applet with a method like "logError(Throwable t, String message)" which will send the details up to the server, maybe output to the console, maybe even pop up a dialog. If you did this via an interface you could plug in different implementations and compound them if required.

  • How do I remove an old hostname record from the server context?

    Hi there
    We have a machine that had changed its hostname, but still has the same IP address.
    This machine was being monitored by SunMC, but since the hostname has changed on the agent,
    the SunMC server is not collecting data from it.
    Throughout the troubleshooting process, I uninstalled/installed the agent on the client (as well as re-seeding, trying just the IP in the domain-config.x file)
    I removed the client from the server's topology (delete object/connection from the Edit menu), and created the object again, and I got the error that it could not connect (check agent/port blah blah).
    Then I tried creating it as an snmp ping, entering only the IP. When I looked at the details, I saw that it
    had taken the OLD hostname for that IP. Right-clicking on the object to make it an agent/host fails with the cannot connect error.
    I confirmed that the old hostname is still associated with that IP using this command, after deleting the object:
    es-run agentContext.sh agent <oldhostname> <port>
    and, sure enough, there's the old entry.
    So...I guess I need some magic command that is going to remove this old agent entry so I can get this
    machine added back in.
    There are a lot of critical servers in this domain, so I don't want to risk wiping everything out!
    Is there a nice way to do this?
    Thanks!

    An apple ID is nothing more than a "User ID"
    Actually, it is more than that. If you read the licensing agreements for any OS version or app obtained at the app store, it will become clear: the license for any app or OS obtained at the app store is not transferable. Hence it is tied to your Apple ID and will remain so - it cannot be removed.
    You are supposed to remove anything obtained at the app store from the computer before giving/selling it. Your father will also not be able to reinstall the OS if need be.
    Which OS version was on the Mac originally? You will need to use internet recovery (Command + Option + R) to erase your drive and then reinstall the original OS (if Lion or later). If it came with an install DVD, boot from that, erase the drive and reinstall. After that, your father can very easily download/update/reinstall any OS or app using his own Apple ID.

  • RMI call back - How to refer to the client project from the server project?

    Hi, I am working on an RMI assignment which basically needs me to use the RMI call back for the server to notify the clients.
    I have 2 projects , one for the client and another for the server.
    In the client project, I have a client interface and the main client class implements this interface.
    In the server project, I have a server interface and a class that implements this interface.
    I can use the server interface in the client project's code by adding the server project in the path of the client project. it lets me use the server interface in the code if I put "import.." statement.
    But the issue is I can not do the same to access the client interface from within the server project's code. Since that will be a circular reference, the compiler does not let me use the client interface from within the server's code. This is putting me in a great difficulty and I am stuck here. What should I do so that I can use the client interface and the compiler won't complain?
    Thanks for any help..
    Regards.. js

    Let me explain what I tried: I manually generated stub class of the client using the Eclipse IDE as mentioned in my previous message. The StockMSClient_Stub.class got created in my client project.
    The common project has the 2 interfaces - one from the client and one from the server.
    I have added reference to the common project from the client and server projects to use the interfaces.
    With the above mentioned in place, when I run the server project, the registry binding of the server objects is very fine. But I am getting error in the applet at the line where I am passing the client object to the method provided by the server interface. The following is the code snippet in the applet where I am getting the error.
    specifically the line: String response = objs.login(userId, password, smsClient);     ====================

  • Is it possible to lock the keyboard of a client from a server using java

    please explain wheterit is possible to lock the keyboard of a client from a server using java

    You want to process code on one machine, and thereby lock the keyboard on another machine? No, that's not possible. It is extremely far from possible.
    Of course, if the client is running software with security holes in it you might hack into it and crash the thing. This will lock up the keyboard pretty good. I hope that's not what you want ...
    Or are you talking about a setup where you already have code running on the client, and some sort of communication between client and server? In that case what you need to know is whether it is possible to lock the keyboard at all. Once you have figured that out, it is trivial to add the communication code to have the server software tell the client software to lock the keyboard.
    So what do you mean with "lock the keyboard"? It's pretty easy to remove/disable all keyboard related listeners in your own application. It's a lot harder (and AFAIK impossible with pure java) to disable alt-tabbing out of the application. And impossible, except from exploiting security holes, to lock the ctrl-alt-delete-combination on windows machine.

  • I just connected my Mac Mini running OS 10.6.8 to a IG 32' monitor. What resolution should I select from the menu?

    I just connected my wife's Mac Mini running OS 10.6.8 to an IG 32' monitor. What resolution should I select from the menu in order to provide maximum screen appearance? My wife has AMD and a visual acuity of 20/400 with central scotonata.

    In System Preferences:Displays you have an option to show
    Displays Prefs in the title bar above the screen - where she can
    iteratively adjust to her liking. Higher screen resolutions, ironically,
    result in smaller characters so adjust to suit. Below, Displays is

  • Provide steps to send Root CA certificate to the Lync client, getting error" There was a problem verifying certificate from the server"

    Hi,
      I Build an Lync 2013 set up with FEpool, Director pool and Exchange server is integrated. I have windows 8 client machine, with Lync client installed. When I try to login to the lync client, I am getting error like"There was a problem verifying
    certificate from the server".
    When I installed ROOT CA cert  manually on client machine I am able to login to the lync client. similarly if I add my client machine in my domain, I am able to login to the Lync client.
    Now is there any other way to send the certificate automatically to the client machine (Which are NOT part of the DOMAIN) from the server, instead of manual installation process.
    Please help me troubleshoot this problem

    Agree with S Guna, there is no easy way to push a certificate automatically to a client that you don't control other than building an installer package and asking them to run it.  In this situation, if there are a lot of non-domain joined machines
    a third party certificate is the way you need to go.

  • Host Custom client from TES server?

    I am working on a custom webapp client for Cisco Tidal Enterprise Scheduler that will let me quickly view running jobs, restart jobs, etc. (similar to the iOS app offers).  The intent is to only show the features that I want and need quick access to.  My plan is to write everything in HTML5 and Javascript (no server side scripting).  I've quickly realized that my XmlHttpRequests and Ajax requests to the TES REST API are failing because of the Same Origin Policy enforced by browsers which prevents cross site scripting.  I am currently developing locally on my personal machine and so the requests are originating from outside of the TES domain.
    Is it possible to host my custom web client from the Tidal Server itself, and is this likely to fix the cross site origin issues I am having?  Does anyone have advice regarding this issue?  I am relatively new to Tidal and appreciate any help regarding this.

    Thanks for your input. Yeah, the article has been there for quite sometimes. That's why I am a bit sceptical about using it. The strange thing is that there has not been any updates about this topic since then (searched in google and not many web pages are mentioning this thing). I am wondering whether it is a good choice to change the code or not.

    Thanx in advance.

    Hi
    You can run this code from the command prompt in the same way as you run any other simple java program. The only thing is you need to set the Home and Local interfaces in the classpath.And obviously if u had deployed the bean in ur app server container, then its all over.
    And one more thing is that u need to set the provider URL in the InitialContext created in the client program.
    Thanks

  • Connect one JAVA ADS instance to multiple clients from the same ABAP system

    Hi,
    Does anyone know whether it is possible to connect multplie clients from the same ABAP system to a JAVA instance running ADS?
    If so how do you setup the java destinations in Visual Admin and SM59 RFC connections?
    Any help is appreciated,
    Sander

    Dear Sander,
    this is always the case if you arrange the ADS connection.
    You have to set up the RFC connection 'ADS' in ABAP side and this connection/destination is client independent. So you can use this from all clients of your abap system.
    On Java side you have to arrange the already mentioned FP_ICF_DATA_<SID> destination. On the ABAP system and client (you specify in this destination) you have to maintain the user ADS_AGENT and your templates should also exist on this client. If there is no client defined, the default client will be used.

    MacBook Pro won't stay asleep with external monitor attached.  When sleep is selected from the Apple menu the computer will go to sleep only to continually wake up...go back to sleep...wake up...etc. every few seconds.  This only happens when using the external monitor. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Mine does that too. The worst thing is when it goes to sleep, then wakes up and keeps running while the lid is closed and it is wrapped up in a case. I am afraid when the hot weather comes it is going to burn up. I am hoping Apple fixes it in the software or they may have a melted MBP to replace.
    Then when I open the lid it is crashed running at fill tilt, pumping out heat to beat the band. I am forced to hold the button down and reboot.
    I wiped my hard disk and reinstalled my OS, but it didn't help. I reversed my OS to 10.5.0 and it solved the DVI problem but still won't sleep. This post will probably be deleted by Apple, they did it a few days ago. I just don't know what to do, and I consider myself a real Apple expert. Just hoping you realize you are not the only one.

  • OfficialFile.asmx The HTTP request is unauthorized with client authentication scheme 'Anonymous'. The authentication header received from the server was 'Negotiate,NTLM'. ERROR

    We are getting an error on the authentication piece when trying to submit a file to the OfficialFile.asmx web service to submit a document to the Drop-Off Library. Here is the code snippet -
    public string FileUpload(HttpPostedFile FileInput, RecordsRepositoryProperty[] properties)
    string strFileUrl = string.Empty;
    RecordsRepositorySoapClient repository = new RecordsRepositorySoapClient();
    BinaryReader b = new BinaryReader(FileInput.InputStream);
    byte[] binData = b.ReadBytes(FileInput.ContentLength);
    repository.ClientCredentials.Windows.ClientCredential = new System.Net.NetworkCredential(iUserID, iUserPassword, iUserDomain);
    repository.ClientCredentials.Windows.AllowedImpersonationLevel = System.Security.Principal.TokenImpersonationLevel.Impersonation;
    repository.SubmitFile(binData, properties, null, FileInput.FileName, HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name);
    strFileUrl = repository.GetFinalRoutingDestinationFolderUrl(properties, null, FileInput.FileName).Url;
    return strFileUrl;
    Although we are setting the network credential in the client call we still get the error
    - The HTTP request is unauthorized with client authentication scheme 'Anonymous'. The authentication header received from the server was 'Negotiate,NTLM'.
    Ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Based on the error message, the issue is related to the authentication type.
    I suggest you can specify the credential type like the below:
    CredentialCache credentialCache = new CredentialCache();
    NetworkCredential credentials = new NetworkCredential(UserName, PassWord, sDomain);
    credentialCache.Add(new Uri(recordCenterUrl), "NTLM", credentials);
    Here is a detailed code demo for your reference:

  • How do you configure a client to update from the server

    I found the information on how to point clients to a software update server but the problem I have is the URL.
    The example is http://su.example.com:8088/index.sucatalog
    I don't have a URL as far as I know and if I did, is the default port 8088 or where can I change or check that?
    And where is a list of the catalog file for the specific versions of OS X?
    Basically I have 8 Macs all running Yosemite except for one running 10.8.5. Instead of all the machines hitting the internet for updates, I'd like just my server to down the updates and then all clients update from the server.
    If there is better instructions on how to do this, please point the way.
    TIA
    Chris

    This does mean you need to buy a DNS load balancer to do this. The Mac itself cannot.
    FWIW, OS X Server is capable of performing round-robin access with the inbound traffic using multiple IP addresses for a single host name.  The addresses are each of the software update servers in your server pool.
    This'll toss errors for some translations when one of the servers is down — you can tweak the definition if one of the servers is going to be offline for a while — but some of the updates will get through.
    Set the DNS TTL fairly short — probably somewhere between a few minutes and an hour — to allow the DNS translations to be changed fairly quickly, if your software update servers are prone to outages.

  • Missing " Create Sample Java Client" from the context menu when debugging

    Jdev 11.1.1.3 on Windows 7 x64
    I have created an EJB - Session Bean from the ADF components and have put some logic into it with one public method.
    I have exposed the method in the local interface.
    I start the integrated server in the debug mode
    When I right-click there is no option to do the sample client.
    Am I missing a plug-in - like JUnit or something?
    From the manual:
    The integrated Oracle WebLogic Server runs within JDeveloper. You can run and test EJBs quickly and easily using this server, and then deploy your EJBs with no changes to them. You do not need to create a deployment profile to use this server, nor do you have to initialize it.
    To run a sample client on the integrated Oracle WebLogic Server: In the Application Navigator, right-click on an EJB and choose Run.
    Notice in the Message pane that Oracle WebLogic Server has been launched. Right-click on an EJB and choose Create Sample Java Client from the context menu. The default choice is to create a client for the integrated Oracle WebLogic Server, so click OK.
    The client is created and opens in the code editor. If your session bean serves as a facade over JPA entities, code is generated to instantiate the query methods. If you exposed methods on your bean, the generated client contains methods that can be uncommented to call them.
    After your EJB has been successfully started from the Application Navigator, right-click on the sample client and choose Run.

    Shay,
    Pretty much what I did exactly - except - since my apps are all using the local interface - I did not create the remote.
    This may be an old habit - but generally it is not a good practice to do both - though this may have changed lately.
    I have this app working and the EJBs are executing fine.
    I used a testview and drug the method onto it - and was able to debug it that way - but still no create java client in the menu.
    Is there any other place to find this other than the context menu? Then I can check to see if it is available.
    I am using WLS 10.3 that ships with Jdev 11.1.1.3 (forgot that little bit) without any changes.
