Monitoring an Oracle Database Appliance w/Ops Center?

Is anyone using Ops Center to monitor an Oracle Database Appliance?:
http://www.oracle.com/us/products/database/database-appliance/overview/index.html
I'm looking for a monitoring solution that won't require a lot of 'expect' gathering/parsing work.

A stack trace for the exception would be very useful!
Anyway, perhaps you should check that the username/password specified in the code correspond to those required to access the database (username = "Kotzwinkle", password = "whatever"). Sometimes you can get away with specifying these in the ODBC data source, in which case you shouldn't pass them to the getConnection method.
Hope this helps.

  • Oracle Database Appliance unscheduled reboot

    Our Oracle database appliance (Oracle linux server 5.9) did an unscheduled reboot last night. I've
    checked the various logs in the /var/log folder but cannot determine the cause of the reboot.
    I'd appreciate any guidance that someone can offer in determining the cause for this reboot.
    Thanks,
    steve

    A system restart can happen because:
    a) root or sudo user initiated a system restart.
    b) there was a kernel panic and the system clock stopped responding (BIOS configuration)
    c) there was a power outage or problem (BIOS configuration)
    d) the system overheated or there was a hardware issue
    /var/log/messages should indicate the time between the shutdown and when the restart happened. Sometimes this can give you some clues. Otherwise you may want to check the following:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/servers-storage-admin/fault-management-linux-2005816.html
    If a system resets due to external cause or root, it is usually not logged. Is the system connected to UPS power? Since you did not specify your hardware, no information can be given about other possible tools. Depending on your server you may check the iLO or iLOM event log.

  • OSB installation on Oracle Database Appliance (ODA) for filesystem backup

    There does not appear to be any special documentation for installing the OSB client on an ODA.  However, the following errors occur on all of our ODAs when attempting to install the OSB client:
    [root@oda000 backup]# pwd
    /usr/local/oracle/backup
    [root@oda000 backup]# which uncompress

    filesystem directory of your choosing.

    (made from /opt/osb/osb-10.4.0.2.0_linux.x64_cdrom120606/linux86_64/gserver.tz)
    This is probably due to the uncompress utility being unavailable.
    Make sure uncompress is available and then re-run setup.
    [root@oda000 backup]# which uncompress

    [root@oda000 backup]# ls -lah /usr/bin/uncompress
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 14 Feb 22 17:33 /usr/bin/uncompress -> /usr/bin/unzip
    Note that the symlink of uncompress to unzip is directly from the OSB installation documentation. None of those files exist in /usr/tmp, but there is a similarly named .Z file there.  However the file name changes, so it cannot just be renamed or manually uncompressed.  I also tried extracting from the mentioned "gserver.tz" file, to no avail.
    Please advise as to how to complete OSB client installation on an ODA.

    There is a white paper on using ODA and OSB:

  • Enterpise Manager for monitoring an oracle database in dmz

    Hi all,
    I'm looking for an idea.
    I have this situation.
    I have a grid console that is monitoring many databases.
    I would like to monitoring and administering with the same OMS a database (11g) that is running on a server that is in DMZ.
    This means that for our internal policy this host can't access to our LAN, this means that for me it'simpossible to
    receive data from running agent (10gR2).
    I can access to this machine, we opened the port 5500 for use the dbconsole running on it,
    but I would like to use the Grid.
    So I'm asking for some ideas, only remember that I can access from my OMS and my client to the machine, but the data-exchange
    is unidirectional.
    Thanks a lot
    Danilo

    You can open the required Grid Control port the same way you have opened that of DB Console.
    Have a look at Metalink NOTE:235298.1 for the ports you need to open for Grid Control

  • CVE-2015-0235 on Oracle Database Appliances

    Hello,
    Does anybody know if Oracle Linux Server release 5.9 2.6.39 400.126.1.el5uek is vulnerable to GHOST (CVE-2015-0235)?
    Thank you!

    You would need to check the version of the glibc RPMs on that box and make sure they are up-to-date. The RPMs with the fix applied are listed here: linux.oracle.com | ELSA-2015-0090 - glibc security update

  • Monitoring of Zones and OVM using Ops center

    a) Zones:
    Whether the zones can be monitored using the agent which is installed on the Global Zone, or
    We need to have separate agents on each non-global zone as well, or any other way.
    b) OVM:
    We assume that each OVM should have its agent for monitoring, or any other way to monitor all the OVM's from Control Domain with single agent on it.
    Looking for elaboration on better ways and practices implemented successfully to monitor Zones and OVM's.

    Can anyone, please look into this. am need of this information.

  • Monitoring Oracle Virtual Appliance (OVA)

    What management packs and plug-ins are required to monitor the Oracle Virtual Appliance (OVA) and manage the associated virtual machines?  From my understanding the Cloud Management Pack should do most of this with the exception of monitoring the physical hardware (heard there is a plug-in in the works though).  Is this correct?  If not correct, what plug-ins or management packs are required to monitor the OVA successfully?
    Before pointing me to documentation, I've reviewed the documentation and the licenses page inside of OEM with no clear cut outline of what should be used.  As I've mentioned, I believe this to be covered in the Cloud Management Pack; just looking for confirmation.
    Thanks

  • Configuring email alerts in Ops Center

    Hi all,
    I have been struggling quite a while to get email alerts working from Ops Center with no success in 11g nor 12c. In the Ops Center GUI, Administration -> EC -> Local Users -> configured user to receive all alerts and emails. I have also configured email relay host correctly(checked a million times).
    Sending emails from the host through the email relay works fine, so I'm baffled.
    #mailx -s " Test from Ops Center" "my.email@work" < text-file
    Do I need to configure something else in Ops Center or what am I missing here?

    The email alerts from Ops Center are working for me, I performed...
    1.) You must be able to send email from the command line on the Enterprise Controller to the intended email address, ie;
    # mailx -v [email protected]
    Subject: Email test from Enterprise Controller
    EOT
    <control-d>
    That test must be successful, and the email received!
    2.) Setup the Notification Profile in the BUI...
    Administration > Enterprise Controller > Users
    Highlight the root user, select Configure Notification Profile (the wrench icon)
    Notifications via >> Subscribe to All Notifications
    User Interface > "Problem updates and all Severities"
    Email: > "Problem updates and all Severities"
    Pager: None
    Notifications Delivery Details
    Email: [email protected]
    Pager Address: <blank>
    Mail Host: localhost
    Port: <blank>
    Mail User: root
    Mail Password: <enter the password for root on the EC>
    Connection Security: STARTTLS
    Select: Update Notification Profile
    3.) Go to Assets > Operating System (second level down) of some Asset
    In the center pane select the "Monitoring" tab
    Under "Threshold Monitoring Rules" highlight "Memory Usage Percentage"
    Edit Alert Monitoring Rule Parameters (the pencil)
    Monitor for alert limits continuously
    Toggle: Generate Alert after 1 Minute
    Change Critical MemoryUsage.usedMemoryPercentage > 2%
    Change Warning MemoryUsage.usedMemoryPercentage > 1%
    Apply
    Wait one minute, you should receive an email that resembles the following:

  • Solution manager and CCMS monitoring of remote database

    I have Solution Manager 7 SP Basis 6 installed. I have oracle remote databases connected successfully. Under DBCockpit I see the instances I want to monitor. I can see the backup, tablespaces, etc. These remote instances are SAP Portal JAVA only version 7 but under the dbcockpit alerts only shows alert monitor. The database check and check conditions are in white. Is there a way to see these and be able to report on them? The CCMS tree under the local solution manager also shows these connected remote instances but they are also white in color as if inactive. All CCMS agents and saposcol are running perfectly on the remote systems. The stats tables have been built, the synonyms for the solution manager are in place. What am I missing?

    Hi,
    Please download that attachment "scripts_1139623.sar" provided in SAP Note 1139623 - Using transaction RZ20 to monitor remote Oracle databases.
    Upon extraction of scripts_1139623.sar the following files you will get.
    rz20_nonabap.sql
    dbcheckora10_oltp.sql
    dbcheckora.sql
    Then Perform the below mentioned Steps to resolve your issue.
    Step 1: Create tables DBCHECKORA and DBMSGORA:
      sqlplus SAPSR3DB/<pwd>
      SQL> @rz20_nonabap.sql
    Step 2: Fill the table DBCHECKORA:
      sqlplus SAPSR3DB/<pwd>
      SQL> @dbcheckora10_oltp
    Step 3: Create the synonyms (as user ora<sid>):
    brconnect -u / -c -f crsyn -o SAPSR3DB
    sqlplus "/as sysdba"
    CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM SAP_DBSTATC FOR SAPSR3DB.DBSTATC;
    CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM SAP_DBCHECKORA FOR SAPSR3DB.DBCHECKORA;
    CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM SAP_DBMSGORA FOR SAPSR3DB.DBMSGORA;
    Step 4: Grant Privileges for OPS$<SID>ADM User for the above created Tables
    sqlplus "/as sysdba"
    grant all on SAPSR3DB.DBSTATC to OPS$<SID>ADM;
    grant all on SAPSR3DB.DBCHECKORA to OPS$<SID>ADM;
    grant all on SAPSR3DB.DBMSGORA to OPS$<SID>ADM;
    grant all on SAPSR3DB.DBSTAIHORA to OPS$<SID>ADM;
    grant all on SAPSR3DB.DBSTATHORA to OPS$<SID>ADM;
    grant all on SAPSR3DB.DBSTATIORA to OPS$<SID>ADM;
    grant all on SAPSR3DB.DBSTATTORA to OPS$<SID>ADM;
    commit;
    Step 5:
    Now after successful execution of above mentioned Steps , in DBACOCKPIT (system configuration), try to save the Remote DB entry with "Collect Alert Data".  It will be saved without any error.
    If you find any errors, post the error contents as a reply of this thread message.

  • Installation of OPS Center

    Hi,
    Hi Team,
    I have a Oracle EM 12c Cloud Control Installed in one of the Server.
    Is it possible to install Oracle 12c R1 Ops Center on the same Server where our EM 12c Cloud Control exists?
    Can i use my 12c Cloud Control Repository Database for 12c Ops Center Installation?
    or
    Oracle Ops center and EM 12c should reside on different server?
    Please Guide

    I believe it is suggested to NOT install both on the same server.  We have Ops Center installed on 1 VM guest and EM on another VM guest, but technically on the same physical box.

  • Can Ops Center forward or generate SNMP traps?

    It's not clear to me what the enterprise controller for Ops Center 11g can do with SNMP traps. The Advanced User Guide says the EC can use "SNMP to discover assets" but that's about the most useful bit of information I can find. Can the EC receive and act on traps from agent hosts? Can it generate its own traps and send them on to a different managment host? If the EC can't do this by default, has anyone tried using any scripts?
    Thanks,

    the last answer I received was to use the plugin with Oracle enterprise manager grid control / cloud control.
    what they didn't say, but it is in the documentation, is that only critical events are shared between ops center and oem. Yes you can see the database targets in ops center, and you can see the infrastructure targets in oem, but notification wise, only criticals. An of course you need to install both the OEM and the ops center agent on the target/asset. I have found that the plugin for ops center 12c and oem 12c doesn't actually send through any information at all, it will probably be fixed in update 1, but who knows.
    There is a 3rd party product, Halcyon, that can apparently integrate with ops center. I think they wrote an api.

  • Database Appliance & Exadata

    Dear Experts,
    I have been working with Oracle database for quite sometime now and I want to learn Database Appliance & Exadata. What is the best way to learn these in a self-study manner? I cannot afford Oracle University course fee. :(
    Can I practice these technologies in virtual environment? (I know they include h/w).
    Appreciate your guidance.
    Thanks
    P

    Hi P,
    The Oracle Database Appliance runs the Oracle stack that you know and love!
    Oracle Linux 5.8
    Oracle Grid Infrastructure 11.2.0.3.3
    Oracle Enterprise Edition 11.2.0.3.3 -- RAC, RAC One, Single edition
    And all of the other options, and Oracle features for backup & recovery, RMAN, disaster recovery, Data Guard, replication, Golden Gate, etc.
    The Oracle Database Appliance does include a command line called oakcli that provides one button database deployment, creation, and patching.
    For more information, please take a look at the Oracle Database Documentation here:
