Totally agree with you Victor!
I am sometimes amazed by the number of 'Views' of a realatively non-helpful posting or even a 'rant' can clock-up, yet really useful information directly from Apple, such as these ones I posted are virtually ignored.
But - so be it..
I post this info in the hope it might help just one person.

  • Is there an Apple article on a secure way to check for software updates (OS 10.6x)?

I recently heard about malware that can be introduced by downloading an innocent-looking software update, e.g., Adobe Acrobat or Flashplayer.  I'd like to set all my programs either to update manually or to automatically let me know that an update is available but not download (e.g., in Microsoft Office).
OS 10.6 has always notified me automatically and asked me if I wanted to install. I'd like to put a "brake" on my tendency to just click "Install," so I looked for software update preferences, but couldn't find them.  Can anyone point me to an Apple article that tells me how to do this?  Thanks!

If you are simply referring to Apple software updates then it will depend on the OS you are using.   For example, there will be no more updates for 10.6.8 Snow Leopard than what is revealed by you clicking 'software update' ... unless some mind blowing security matter arises.   You need to be able to choose once you get to Yosemite and that is where Eric's suggestion of the forums is so relevant.   The newest OS tends to have its early updates fairly regularly as the public at large find its faults.   As I understand it, there are some who doubt 10.6.3 sufficiently to discourage me, if I used that OS.
And I have to agree with Bob.   Too many rogue companys can trick you into downloading basically decent software but having injected malware before you get it.   SOFTONIC, DOWNLITE, MACPAW ZEOBIT and anything UTORRENT are to avoid.

  • Two or more apple TVs to one account?

Is it possible to have two or more Apple TVs in the same household that are tied to one account? I'm assuming if that is true, then the content linked to my account should be shared between both Apple TVs as well. Correct?
Thanks in advance for the help.

    Hi,
this should not be a problem.

  • HT3819 can I use two or more Apple Tvs on one network?

I have two Apple TVs on my network, one in a basement cinema and the other in the ground floor TV room - if I use the one in the basement, then stop using it and then later in the day try and use the one in the TV room I get an error message asking me to turn on home sharing.  I have to go upstairs to my MAC turn home sharing off and then on again for the second Apple TV to work.  The same thing happens if I subsequently try and use the Apple TV down in the basement.  I am not trying to use them both at the same time.  Does anyone know if I can run two (or more) Apple TVs on the same network and if so how do I get around the home sharing error I keep getting?  Thanks!

Of my 7 Apple TV's only one is connected by ethernet, they all work as expected, more often than not at the same time (I probaly haven't had 7 running at the same time, it depends on who's using what))

  • Hi! I have 1 credit card and 2 more apple id. Is it possible to use this credit card information for all my apple id?

Hi! I have 1 credit card and 2 more apple id. Is it possible to use this credit card information for all my apple id?

Though you are being asked for card details it doesn't necessarily mean that the card will be charged for the purchase (unless you want to gift content). Have you tried entering your card's details to confirm the account ? You should then be able to remove it.
    From http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5582 :
When making purchases, content credits are used first, followed by Gift Certificate, iTunes Card, or Allowance Account credits; your credit card or PayPal account is then charged for any remaining balance
Is it a new account ? If it is then unless a new account is created by following the instructions on this page (the instructions won't work with existing accounts) : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534
then you will need to enter card details (debit cards are no longer accepted in all countries) before the account can be used to download any item from the store.

Cannot update my phone as message comes through "updating to iOS 7.0.4 requires at least 610 MB of free space on your iPhone.  Please change your media sync options to make more storage available"
What media sync options?  Where are they ? How do I change them?

Afraid, this doesnt help.  I've already unselected about 100 iTunes, resynced, and I still get the same message about 610 MB needing to be deleted.
What is so magic about 610 MB as a number?
Is this anything to do with iCloud? I was on the free 20 MB offeruntil last month and then got downgraded to 5 because I could n't see the need for paying for extra Cloud space.   Is this the reason why?

  • Can itune home sharing support slide show from 3 or more apple tvs simoutaneously ?

Can itune home sharing support slides show from 3 or more apple tvs simoutaneously ?

In theory yes provided your network is up to it - more likely to be stable on a wired connection.

  • When printing Apple articles on a Mac 10.7, some of the text is lost and the font is larger on pages 2 and on.

When I print Apple support articles, the font size increases from page one to subsequent pages and some of the text is lost. This is true on Canon i960 and MG 8120 printers. It does not happen on other multi page documents. It is only true with Firefox. Safari works fine.

Please provide a public URL or reduced test case that exhibits this issue.
Does it appear correct in Print Preview?

  • Wanted to use MBP. No more Apple in my life!

I decided to buy an MBP.
I waited for the whole month to get my hardware. I paid big time money for it.
All i got was a massive frustration and a huge quantity of time lost in order to get more and more broken and faulty MBPs. I had 8 of them. Every single one was c..p
So long Apple. It was (not)nice meeting you.

    If You say that:
    1. Loud whining (in every model I saw)
    2. Drastic overheating.
    3. Hang ups.
    4. Shut downs.
    5. Faulty speakers.
    6. Problems with airport.
    7. etc
is a thing that requires "learnig curve" to handle..
    No more to say
I bought lots of PC`s in my life. I`ve NEVER experienced something like this. Such a low quality and so much ignorance.
I will quote myself from the other post. I think it is very true and should be kept in mind at all times.
Beeing a picky customer is a MUST in this case. I
realy don`t understand the people who are trying to
protect this company no matter what happens. You HAVE
to remember that it is not a privilage for you that
you own Mac. It is a privilage FOR Apple that you
decided to spend big time money on their products. It
is your DUTY to be picky and strict. Apple is not a
religion, it is a product company, just like Durex or
    next street bakery.
Apple hit the bottom with MBP. Hopefully it is
momentarly situation, but softening it up will not do
much good. Beeing strict and suspicious will not harm
    anyone.

  • More Apple TV mishaps

Hi, I've been reading all of the threads concerning Apple TV dropping home sharing, but I think my problem is slightly different to most of the one's I've found here.
Don't get me wrong, I'm having the same difficulties as everyone else and their home sharing but my problem starts before that with starting up ATV2.
When I switch it on the TV will normally jump to the ATV input, all fine, but it then doesn't want to connect, I just get the input info sitting there in the top corner of the screen (HDMI1 - Apple TV 720p or similar) and this flickers on and off forever. I then have to disconnect the power and try again, sometimes with success, more often than not no success whatsoever. Normally I give up and walk away.
And then I have to battle the Home Share issues when it does work.
I've tried a different HDMI cable, switched Sky and ATV inputs and Sky and the other cable work fine - the common denominator for problems is ATV2. Anyone else having similar problems? All of this started with the last updates of iTunes and ATV, not sure which one it started with, but in that sort of time frame.
    Any help/suggestions appreciated.
    Trev

Hi Rudegear, thanks very much for the reply.
What you say makes perfect sense, so I'm on the case now and the firmware is up to date on the router and Apple TV isn't blocked. Firewall all seems fine but will delve into that a bit more when I get more time.
Also, I don't use a HDMI switch, my TV has 2 HDMI inputs, ATV and Sky and I've swapped them over to see if that makes any difference, and also tried swapping cables, but no luck, the ATV input is always the troublesome one. So pretty sure it's not the router, cables or TV.
I was previously using it fine - streaming, home sharing, internet and TV connection were perfect until the last update and then it all went a bit wonky, and like other threads I'm coming to the conclusion it's either the software update for ATV/iTunes or I have a damaged Apple TV (which is unlikely because it was previously working).

  • Random shut down issues and more, apple recieved puter today, on hold

Ok so i have all the signs of a bad logic board or messed up puter. Mooing, random shut downs, dies during screen saver, and dies when lid is closed. I sent unit in yesterday, they got it today. Website sai on hold for infomation. So I gave them a call. They said they reseated the ram and its working and what else was wrong. I told then the mac genius did this twice and did all the other reset, then i got it home and it died again. There gonna start running more tests on it, i told her to tell the tech of the terminal thing to do to cause shut downs. ANd i told her of this post. She was extreamly nice to me and said there going to take care of me. they have had it for one afternoon, so i cant yell yet. I did ask that they replace the unit and send me a new one, she said they will run a more tests and go from there. I pointed her towards this forum as im sure many of you have and she said there going to and have been checking it out. So I guess there ontop of the issue. My bigest fear was getting the unit back andhaveing same problems. But hey thats what customer service is for so ill give applecare there fair chance first. Ill keep ya updated.

    here another scientist.
Firmware is reversible by reflashing it ... it just
need another set of istruction in binary package.
My ISSUE is related ONLY with firmware,
    mathematically.
Actually that's only partially true. It's only reversible by reflashing if someone has released the "reflash" package, which Apple has not. And so long as the changes it made allow a rollback of sorts. Many firmware updates will very clearly state that they can not be removed or undone. So... in your case, the previous poster was correct... it is impossible, through software to reflash your MacBook firmware
Go ahead and try to even reload the firmware, your MacBook knows it is already updated and will not allow the firmware to be reflashed.
Please, put your energy towards some other project, the SMC Firmware update, no matter how "coincidental" the timing of your RSD was, is not the root cause of the RSD.
BTW - I will echo the same comments about your experience with the so called Apple Genius, he's a tool
Call Apple or go to the Store and speak with someone else, in fact ask the Apple Genius if he is familar with the MacBook Random Shutdown. If he is not, ask to speak with one that is. The Apple Genius I spoke with was indeed familar with the problem and was simply great in processing my repair. Every instance so far has been related to a hardware problem.
    Good luck
    Greg

  • I Need To Make More Apple iDs

I work at a business that needs to make more than 3 Apple iDs a day, i say 3 because it seems after  we make 3 accounts through the iTunes Store it gives a "Your Session has timed out" Error. Is there any way around this? thanks.

  • IPhone 4 in recovery mode after failed update with most recent software (3/25/13), I only have the past 30 days worth of photos and my contacts in iCloud, how do I get the rest of my pictures off of my phone? I have read the apple article already.

Basically headline says it all, my phone is in recovery mode following a failed update through the phone and I want all my photos back.  I have already read the "iOS: Unable to Update or Restore" and it indicates that when restoring through iTunes, you lose all data on the phone. I have checked my iCloud (I am a Windows7 user so uploading does not happen automatically, as I unfortunately just figured out) and it only will upload my past 30 days of photos and contacts, inline with what I've read about the cloud only storing 30 days of your past data. I really would like to get all of my photos off of my phone, I had photostream activated and most were in that stream. Is there anything I can do? I don't know what operating system is on there currently, but I have always updated my phone succesfully until today when this happened, so I'm assuming whatever is most up to date until today is the OS it has. Thank you!

When your phone is in recovery mode, it's like it crashed.  The only way that you can get it out of recovery mode is by restoring, and this erases all your data as well.
You can believe what you wish by "reading all over the internet".  This is Apple's technical support forum.  We do know what we're talking about.
since you have very important photos on your phone, why haven't you been importing them to your computer as soon as possible after taking them?  This is how the phone is meant to be used.  Keeping critical data on only a device which can be easily stolen, dropped and broken is just plain foolish.  Also, did you not back up your phone (as you should be doing with any computer) before attempting any operating system update?  As you've now just painfully learned, updates do not always go as planned.
I'm sorry for your data loss, but let this be a very important lesson.  BTW, when was the last time you backed up your computer?  I'm sure you have important data on your computer.  Hard drives WILL fail.

  • HT204085 Does the keychain have to be set up from only one Apple ID or can it be used among 2 or more Apple ID users? For example, my daughters each have I'd but my cc is on their accounts and my wife also has her own id with my cc.

Can the keychain from my phone and Apple ID link to 2 other different phones and Apple ID's and 1 new ipod and different id? Both daughters and wife use my credit card on their accounts.

We do this in my family now.  We have one account for purchases, so it is used to share music and apps (I think that is in Settings/iTunes & App Stores).  Each iDevice has this configured.
Then, each of us has our own iCloud account that is configured under Settings/iCloud.  That then allows us to have our own Mail/Contacts/Calendars/Reminders/Safari Bookmarks/Notes/Passbook/Photo Stream/Documents & Data/Find My iPhone/and Backup.  That Backup piece is pretty sweet and comes in handly if you replace your iDevice.  You can just restore from it.
So we all share the Apple Store account but we all have our own iCloud accounts to keep the rest seperate or things like you mentioned are a nightmare.
In answer to what iCloud does for you: http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/
Think of it as an internet based ("cloud") area for all of those items listed in my response.  What you need to remember is photo stream only maintans the last 1000 pictures so don't count it as a complete backup solution for your pictures.  Even though I rarely sync with a computer these days, I do still try to sync my phone with iPhoto (I have an iMac) so that I have copies of all of my pictures.  1000 may not stretch as far as it sounds.
