More SAP Processes on Front End PC

Hi all
It seems to me that as PC's get more and more powerful --sometimes more powerful than the application server itself  the old 3 Layered Architecture level might not be the best use of resources.
For instance in classical SAP a lot of time is often spent in reading data from data bases into internal tables, manipulating the tables via sorting / filtering etc etc  and then creating a list / or display -- all of these tasks using Central Processing functions..
Maybe we should start looking at using the processing power of the PC itself for a lot of these task --especially where no data base update is required
For example data could be downloaded very quickly on to the users PC where it can then be queried and manipulated. Network load is not usually an issue these days.
Given the thrend of "Persistent Objects" it would seem this would be the way to go -- retrieve the object(s)  from the SAP server and then do all the queries locally.
Not everything could be done this way  - you still need "Classical Batch Work"  but certainly a huge amount of stuff could be done on the users front end now.
When SAP R3 first appeared PC's were not very powerful,  the Net as a business tool was hardly recognized and network connections were often painfully slow.
Now it's totally the opposite. --It seems almost a crime to sit at an 8GB RAM dual processor PC simply to look at a sales order (VA03) or create some reports.
Cheers

I think, that strategically there are other approaches already on the market.
Not everyone uses FAT clients, I know quite a few companies, who use very old PCs and connect to a Citrix or Terminal Server farm instead of distributing everything locally.
The management of a huge number of PCs is becoming more and more a nightmare, given the fact, that more and more dependencies are added to run your SAP applications (speaking of Adobe SVG viewer, Flash, Java Runtime etc.) This nightmare would even become bigger if one thinks of synchronizing different steps of a transaction on a different PC. Out of my experience, it´s often just lazyness of the users, that make systems slow by quering just too much data. If you have a system with > 10 years of data and users are quering that data by NOT entering a "from" date, I can just say, that lazyness
I agree with you, you don´t need a FAT client to display something in VA03, you don´t even need a full PC to do that, a Termina Server session is sufficient for such users.

  • Front End for B1

    Hi Experts,
I believe that the SAP B1 is a back end financial software.  As a retail company expands and grows maybe it is more economical to deploy front end software to its retail stores or business units for functions or modules such as Sales - A/R, Business Partners, Banking, Inventory in which Administration, Financials, Human Resources, Production are no longer implemented that are suited to branches.  Could you recommend some of these front end software that could work well with B1.
    Regards,
    Allan.

    Hi,
We used iBolt integration tools which is made by Magic Software specially for SAP integration and its very fantastic tool for such scenario's. You can check on www.magicsoftware.com.

  • New front end editor problem

I'm quite new on this forum, so don't be so angry if I'm asking about something that someone else was asking for, by i didn't found answer on my question.
    So...
In my company, administrator made some updates in 4.7, after that updates new front end editor is avalible (this with code colorin, code hinting, code folding etc).
But I have some problem with keyboard mapping scheme. When i try to save my own setting or change keymapping to another one, SAP stop responding (it's not a crash with short dump but simple aplication freezing). I tried to find some solution to this behaviour but I didn't found it yet.
    My question is:
    1) Did someone else have the same behaviour as I?
    2) Where to find SAP notes about front end editor?
Thx in advance for any help

    Keymapping settings in file:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\ab4_data\keymap.xml
You should also check the following dir:
    c:\Program Files\SAP\FrontEnd\SapGui\ab4_data\
During patch installation this dir is overwritten, and during the first use of the new editor, the files from here copied to the <username>\ab4_data dir, where you can change them.
Might be permission problem, I can imagine, that if you have no authorization to change these files, the GUI starts hanging or chrashing.

  • Using SAP BI front-end on external data sources

We are currently reviewing the BI technical strategy at our organisation and SAP BI is in the running where we have a need to cover more data sources than just R/3.
Because of the investment made in building other reporting databases, in the short to medium term we are considering using SAP BI as the front-end.
I have built a Virtual InfoProvider using DTP on a SQL Server database, and initial findings are interesting.
I would also like to consider other methods of using SAP BI as a front-end, and this post is a plea for further options.
Some of the existing reports that we need to replace would be based on views in the database, whereas others are driven by result sets from stored procedures.
I am curious about where all the effort is made, for example, will all the filtering be applied at source or back in BW?
Will a user-entry variable allow a lookup to the source?
We have recently upgraded to NW2004s, although we have not implemented the Java Stack .... yet.  We intend to complete the implementation by May 2008.
I would welcome any suggestions you might have, or if you are able to point me to further sources of information.
    Ian.

The Web Analyzer within BI 7.0 JAVA run time can go against XMLA datasources (eg: MS Analysis Services) configured within EP system.
Visual Composer available within Ep 7 can go against any JDBC sources (Web Analyzer will have this functionality in the future.).

  • Front end and Back end experience in SAP BW

    Hi Friends...
Can ne1 plz explain wht things in SAP BW come under Front end and Back end experience......Thanks in advance

Generally, back-end would consist of the taks associated with configuration of data targets (ODS, Cubes), working with extractors, mapping data to the data targets, writing transfer/start rtn/update rules, and creating Infopkgs/ Process Chains.
Front-end deals with the use of the BW - writing queries, workbooks, web (although I think some of the infrastructure aspects of web reporting. e.g. javascript/templates might really could be considered backend).  Think of Front-end as all of the client/customer/user facing components.

  • ESS - Creating a Front End Selection Screen, that accesses SAP T-code

    Hi,
We have an ESS Portal in our company.
I have been given the following request:
For a specific transaction, create a selection screen in the portal that would be a modified version of the selection screen that exists in the SAP system.
From this front-end in the selection screen, the specific transaction within the SAP system would be accessed.
How is this done? What do I need to know about the overall process?
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    John

    Just to clarify,
Create the transaction and selection screen in the SAP system.
Then ask the Portal team to create an iView for this transaction.
What if I need to say get the Internal SAP employee number from the user's sign on information?
    Thanks,
    John

  • Missing file error when installing SAP Front End

When installing SAP front end, i am receiving following file missing error, please assist:
I am using Windows XP Professional
The SAP Front-End Setup has not successfully installed all selected components on your computer, either because a component could not be installed or the process has been aborted.
Click Finish to exit the wizard.
The following program files are missing on the installation source:
    c:\sapexport34567\others\sapgui620\gui\windows\win32\sapgui\filc\odbc\mscreate.dir
    c:\sapexport34567\others\sapgui620\gui\windows\win32\sapgui\xxl\saplotgr.gid
    c:\sapexport34567\others\sapgui620\gui\windows\win32\sapgui\xxl\saplotuk.gid
The installed applications may not function correctly until all program files are successfully installed. For detailed error descriptions, please open file://C:\SAPEXP1\Others\SAPGUI1\GUI\WINDOWS\WIN32\setup\saplogvw.exe .

    Hi Anand,
I would not care about those files, because they are unneccessary. mscreate.dir is a 0 byte file which just tells that microsoft has created this directory. The *.gid files are winhelp files that get created when you first use the help function.

  • SAP Front End

    Hi Gurus,
I have to install SAP front end on 600 PCs. How can I automate it instead of installing it physically? Is there any way of using Solution Manager. Please be informed it is a global implementation as well.
    Regards, Nabi.

Good morning, Nabi - There are two possibilities, depending on your existing infrastructure. The first option is provided by SAP. You can install what is known as a SAPGui Installation Server. You then apply patches and configure installation packages on this server. It also has a distribution mechanism in the form of an Installation Service and a Distribution Service. These are useful because they can allow non-administrators to still update the SAPGui on a desktop. You can then create a log-on script on the PC to check to see if the SAPGui is installed, and if so if it is up to date. If it is not, the software will be installed/patched. This is an option if you do not have any other software distribution tools in your enterprise.
The option that we use is to utilize Microsoft System Management Server (now being replaced/renamed to System Center Configuration Manager 2007) to launch the setup command line on each PC. This provides more control for the distribution and you can then also do more reporting on the PCs that have the package installed.
Please let me know if you need additional information. I provided an answer to a similiar question in the SAPGui Forum also.

    Blair Towe

  • Upgrade to SAP BPC 7.0 with cluster system (Front-End & Back-End)

    Hello,
I have to do an upgrade document about an outlooksoft 5.0 SP2 to SAP BPC 7.0 SP4 in a cluster system.
    It has 2 front-ends (IIS cluster windows) & 2 back-ends (SQL Cluster).
We are going to do first the migration in 1 node, and then in another. The first upgrade in the first node I understand. I uninstall outlookdoft 5.0, install SAP BPC 7.0 SP4 and then restore the backup of the Appset, and do the posts upgrade action of the Dimension TIME.
But in the second, what do we do??? I uninstall outlookdoft 5.0, install SAP BPC 7.0 SP4 and then what??? Do I have to restore the backup of the Appset again???
    I need help.
    Best regards.
    Pablo Mortera.

    Hello,
On the second cluster node, you have only to install the software, nothing related to the appset. If you alreay run the migration stepts for the appset, all the information are into daatbase and file server.
However, the normal behaviour is to make the installation on the both nodes, make the basic tests to validate the installation and then proceed with the appset migration.
    Best regards,
    Mihaela

  • The installation of SAP Front-End components failed with 95 errors.

I tried to install SAP GUI 7.20 on Windows Vista X64.  And I got this error message:
The installation of SAP Front-End components failed with 95 errors.
This 7.20 version used to run on this operating system fine. I reinstalled the OS, and now I got this.

    Hi,
I suppose you reinstalled the same OS.
Did you install the JSDK (java) afterwards. As you must be aware Java is a pre-requisite for the SAP Frontend.
Also make sure you have set the environment variables after installing java.
Further documentation, the SAP installation manual can be found in the u201CDOCUu201D folder of the installation software.

  • RPM - How to re-process prices without using the front end.

    Hi all,
There is a way of re-processing prices without using the front end? For instance, using the front end, a new clearance is created state in rpm_clearance ‘pricechange.State.conflictCheckforApproved’ and changed for ‘pricechange.State.worksheet’ after the conflict check.
Now, I want to re-process the same clearance without using the front end. I’ve tried to change again the STATE to ‘pricechange.State.conflictCheckforApproved’ but no success. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

  • SAP Integration kit for BO XIR2 with Crystal XI for BI 7.0 Front end

    Hello Team,
We are in a little fix.
We have BOE XIR2, Crystal XI and working with old version of BI front-end 3.5.
We are upgrading to BI 7.0 frontend, but I am not able to trace out the SAP Integration kit for combination of BOE XIR2, Crystal XI and BI7.0.
Is such a thing available, If yes can someone send a link to that.
    Regards
    Lalan Kanade

    Hi,
    Thanks for the quick reply
I could trace this document.  "BusinessObjects Enterprise XI Release 2 SP3 for Windows"
I checked in "Supported Data Sources for Crystal Rep" section, extract below
SAP BW Server 3.0b SAP GUI 620 or 640
SAP BW Server 3.1c SAP GUI 620 or 640
SAP BW Server 3.5 SAP GUI 640.
But we are using BW Server 7.0 with GUI 7.1 and that working fine even with BOXIR2 and Crystal XI with Old Front End for BI 3.X.
But when we are testing with BOXIR2 and Crystal XI with BI New Front End 7.0 its missing components from the query output.
So the SAP Integration kIt seems old & we need a new Kit which would work with BI New Front End 7.0.
    Any suggestions on that

  • Release BI 7.0 front-end add-on for SAP GUI 7.10, Support Package 700

    Hi guys,
In SAP note 1238872 the release of new support package has been mentioned (Quote: "Download the BI 7.0 front-end add-on for SAP GUI 7.10, Support Package 700 from the SAP Service Marketplace.")
So, can someone tell me, when this Support Package will be released?
(At the moment the last version provided in download area is 6.02)
    Kind regards
    Markus

Thanks, but my question was not how can I workaround, cause I was able to read that note. (Unfortunatly the workaround solves the problem for the query designer only and the error still persists when executing the query)
However, can some one please tell me, when the Support Package 7.00 will be released?
