How can I do to mount within Solaris a FAT partition contained in the same drive?

Hello.
For a primary partition:
mount -F pcfs /dev/dsk/cxdxpx /mntWhile "cx" is the HD controller (e.g. c0), "dx" is the disk (e.g. d0) and "px" is the partition (p1 ... p4).
For some SCSI, Raid, ... controllers the format is "cxtxdxpx" while "tx" is the connector on the controller.

While mounting a fat partition , I typed :
mount -F pcfs /dev/dsk//c0d0p0:2 /mnt/my_fatand it works correctly.
Then I edited the /etc/vfstab as :
/dev/dsk/c0d0p0:2 - /mnt/my_fat pcfs - no -And I don't understand why I get a " Mount point cannot be determined" when I type :
mount /mnt/my_fat

Try mount with
rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev,noatime,shortname=lower,flush,utf8,gid=100

Question about using HFS+ & FAT partitioned hard drive with Windows

Theoretically, if I have a [mobile] hard drive with one partition being "HFS+" and the other partition "FAT," What would happen if I used it on a PC? Would it only mount the "FAT" partition or both the "FAT" Partition and the "HFS+" Partition?

Unfortunately, you cannot have drive partitioned partly as Mac OS Extended and FAT32 that can be used on both a PC and a Mac. To use the drive on both you need to format the entire drive FAT32 as a single partition. Alternatively, you can format the drive Mac OS Extended and partition the drive, but to use the drive on a Windows PC you would need Windows software for reading and writing Mac disks, such as MediaFour's MacDrive.
That said there is a technique for doing what you want, and it's described here.

Can't access to Fat Partition - Mount problem

Dear all
A few months ago I used disk utility and perform a partition. The idea was 3 partitions, 1 for mac (Journaled), 1 for bootcamp (NTFS) and 1 for transfer between the OSs (FAT).
And it worked OK, I can use mac when I want and Windows too, I put the files in the fat partition and read/write without any problem in the 2 OSs.
So, the fat partition for a lot of months worked OK, and almost all my files were saved in that partition, but last week I was copying too many gigas to the fat partition and I checked that fat partition was almost full. I thought well, usually mac tells you that is not enough space and you cannot copy more files, but IT DIDN'T DO IT and allow to copy and copy and copy. Well I continued working, later I turn off my computer (no close the lid) and at the next day when I turned on and started in MAC the partition doesn't appear. OMG!!!..... I entered to the disk utility and went to "Fisrt Aid", performed Verify, and Repair and it doesn't work.
It says.... bla bla bla,,, can`t repair, Back Up.... But How to Backup if there is not the option to access to the partition. In windows it says format?,, Of course not!
I tried to contact Mac support (I still have warranty, until April 16), but no solution was given.
I know that information is there, but I don't know how to recover and mount again the partition, because I have not formatted the partition. I have read a lot but before perform any action I would like to consult with you. I don't want to use apps that look for file to file, I just want to open my fat partition, find my organised folders and save the information in other place.
My info:
OS X Yosemite 10.10.2
MacBook Pro (13, Mid 2012)
Processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
Storage: 1 TB
Fat partition: disk0s4 (Capacity 199.86 GB (199,860,682,752 Bytes))

Mounting FAT partitions on Solaris 8

Does Solaris 8 support mounting Windows FAT 16/32 partitions
from IDE drives on an Intel platform. The PCFS type seems
to be reserved for dos floppies.

mount -F pcfs /dev/dsk/cXdXpX /mnt should work.
Where c = 0 or 1 (0 for primary , 1 for secondary ide)
d = 0 or 1 (0 for master , 1 for slave )
p = 0 .. 4 (number of the partition)

There used to be an issue where you couldnt mount a partition that was formated under WinNT but I dont think that is still an issue under Solaris 8 x86

[SOLVED] Mounting a logical partition

Scenario:
/dev/sda1 primary NTFS windows boot
/dev/sda2 primary NTFS windows home
/dev/sda3 primary ext4 arch /boot
/dev/sda5 primary ext4 arch /
/dev/sda6 logical ext4 arch /home
/dev/sda7 arch swap
Do I perform mount /dev/sda6 /mnt/home as if it were a "normal" partition?
EDIT: I would mount each logical partition as normal.

You could do either ....
If it will _always_ be there and you always want it mounted - put it in /etc/fstab, -or- you could put it in /etc/rc.local (without using 'sudo' of course).
I'm a great believer in using rc.local because you _know_ that everything which might be needed (modules eg.) will be available by then.
If you use /etc/fstab, your entry would be:
/dev/sda5 /mount/point vfat defaults 0 0

Swap FAT partition

Is it worth making swap FAT partition for file exchange between Mac OS and windows?

Actually my question was about possible troubles of file exchanging between these os because I already had troubles with my external ntfs hdd which can suddenly unmount and doesn't mount then. I don't know how it goes in windows but I would prefer to have swap fat partition. It seems to me more safe way. Please, correct me if I'm wrong. I'd like to hear your experience of file exchanging.

Bootcamp Partition Will Not Mount - Size Bootcamp Partition Will Not Mount - Also Size Discrepancies

I have bootcamp installed on an internal hard drive in my Mac Pro running 10.8.5. This HD had two partitions, one of which I had 200GB allocated for my Windows install. I reached a point where I was at nearly 100% capacity on that drive and needed more room. This is what I did:
Used Disk Utility to shrink the Mac OS Extended partition.
Erased free space on that partition.
Booted back into Windows and used MiniTool to extend the bootcamp partition to unallocated space.
MinoTool then performed a restart and finished it's job upon startup.
I am still able to boot into Windows and Mac just fine and I did create a backup of each OS before starting.
I have two issues now, however. Parallels no long recognized that Bootcamp partition. I decided to delete that VM and I had to uninstall Parallels completely anyways due to an upgrage isse to Parallels 9. After upgrading, Creating a VM from my BC was not an option. This is because the BC partition will not mount, it is greyed out in Disk Utitlity.
I tried installing Tuxera NTFS and the disk still cannot be mounted.
The other issue is that Disk Utility does not show the Bootcamp partition with the correct size. It still shows it with the original 200GB but does show that the Mac Partition was shrunk. In Windows, however, either using MiniTool or Windows Disk Managment, it shows the correct sizes for the partitions.
I'll attach a screenshot of DU.
I would like to be able to mount the drive successfully so that I can use the partition once again for Parallels.

I am unable to mount my NTFS partition after the last update

I usually mounted my NTFS partition with the "gnome-disk" utility. It works no longer, only if I start it with "sudo". But in this case the mount point will be in a directory called "root" and this cause several problems, eg.: old hardcoded paths stop working in scripts. What can I do to make the gnome-disk utility work as an ordinary user.

Thx, maybe I could use the fstab to mount the partition, am I right? But I don't know how to do it properly, because when I tried it in the past native hungarian characters iny the file and directory names always caused problems. If I somehow could capture the command sequence which the gnome-disk utility passes to the kernel / bash, would be helpful.

Mavericks refuses to mount Time Machine partition

Hi there,
Two days ago, my MBP crashed, kernel panicked. Since then, it has not been able to mount my external Time Machine partition. Notice that the external drive has two partitions in it, MBP is happy to mount the other partition, but not the TM one.
I ran Verify Disk and Repair Disk with Disk Utilities First Aid, and everything came back fine "The volume Work Time Machine appears to be OK." But then if I try to mount, I get "The disk "Work Time Machine" could not be mounted.
What can/should I do to mount/recover this?

Launch/Utilities/Terminal and copy & paste this command at the prompt:
diskutil list
Press return.
If it sees the disk, note the number of the disk (far left column) you want to mount.
Then, enter copy & paste this command:
mount /dev/(number of disk)
Put in the number no parenthesis.
Press Return.
Also might try
mount force /dev/(number of disk)

Solaris 10: Mounting a extended partition

Hi, I have Solaris 10 installed in a x86 machine.
I have one hard disk with 3 primary partitions (ntfs, ufs, fat32). I have 1 extended partiton that containts 2 partitions (ext3 and fat32).
Can i mount my extended partitions in Solaris?
I mount my first fat32 (hda2 in linux) partition with:
"mount -F pcfs /dev/dsk/c0d0p2 /mnt/ruben"
In wich way can i mount my second fat32 partition?
"mount -F pcfs /dev/dsk/c0d?s?p? /mnt/david"
Can i mount my linux partition?
Finally, in wich way can i mount my Solaris partition in linux?
I try "mount -t ufs /dev/hda3 /mnt/solaris/
" but it doesn't work.

Solaris 10 won't reconize your extended partitions, its limited in primary partitions only at this time. This may change ofcourse, it wouldn't surprise me if you see support appear somewhere in either Solaris Express or a later Open Solaris release.
Mounting your linux partition is therefor only possible if its located on an extended partition. As to Linux itself; it heavily depends on the filesystem. I think to have read somewhere that you can add ext2 support in Solaris, but I don't think that'll work for filesystems like reiser, xfs or ext3. (although the latter might be accessible as ext2).
Finally, a little offtopic (but not too much)... Yes, Linux supports mounting Solaris x86 slices, but its very likely that you'll need to recompile your kernel. You'll need to add UFS filesystem support as well as support for the Solaris/x86 partition table.
I suggest checking out a few howto's on www.tldp.org on instructions how to compile your kernel.

[Triaged] System tries to mount iPod firmware partition

Hi. I switched from hal-easy back to hal today, and it's started doing something weird.
It's trying to mount my iPod's firmware partition now. It's the first partition, and doesn't have a file system on it. So before mounting the iPod's real partition, I get an error dialog about how it failed to mount that first partition, and then proceeds to mount the second one. Icons for both partitions are visible on the desktop, and in thunar. I'm using xfce 4.6, and exo-mountopt from AUR.
It didn't behave this way before switching to hal-easy, and while I was using hal-easy. What could be going on here? How can I fix it?

I found a way to work around this problem.
Create /etc/udev/rules.d/10-local.rules, or if you already have it, add this:
# Ignore iPod's first partition
SUBSYSTEMS=="usb" ATTRS{product}=="Rockbox media player" KERNEL=="sd?1" OPTIONS+="ignore_device last_rule"
SUBSYSTEMS=="usb" ATTRS{product}=="iPod" KERNEL=="sd?1" OPTIONS+="ignore_device last_rule"
This covers iPods with both Apple OS and Rockbox. After making it, the icon for the system partition will still be on the desktop. Just log out and log back in and it will disappear.
And if you get nitpicky about the volume label being all-caps like I do, you can make /etc/hal/fdi/policy/05-labels.fdi and then restart hal:

Unfortunately, these are all only work-arounds for behavior that was not exhibited before... as for when it changed, I can't remember for the life of me. I'd rather not have to use work-arounds, but they're working. I've marked the thread as "triaged" instead of "solved" because the problem's not fixed, just worked around.
Now I'd like to figure out how to get my iPod icon back instead of the boring hard drive icon when I use Rockbox USB, but I'm sure I can just google around for that.

As far as I know, the sata ntfs partitions are those with (sdb#).
I tried mounting one of them but this is what it shows:

Please help me, this is very annoying compared to ubuntu which does do the job pretty well. By the way, I'm using kde as my DE. Dolphin sees the partitions but cant access.

MacBook Pro bootcamp windows cant see FAT partition

I have 4 partitions on my SSD
- 1) MAC OS
- 2) SHARED ETC (MAC OS EXT)
- 3) SHARED WORK (FAT)
- 4) NTFS BOOTCAMP
I created two additional partitions (ETC, WORK) after I setup windows via bootcamp, also after I've done that I did a workaround to fix MBR because I wasn't able to boot Windows natively.
But for some reason when I am booting windows it is does not see ETC and WORK partitions! It should be able to see at least WORK(FAT) partition?
How do I fix that?
I want to be able to access WORK(FAT) partition from Windows and ETC(MAC OS EXT) partition as well, if it is possible
