Mounting parts during Install - Abort Installation ?

Cant figure this one out.
Been using Linux for 6 years and have not used Arch during that time.
During the install, I partition my HHD using cfdisk using this strategy
disk1 /boot ext3
disk2 SWAP
disk3 /tmp reiser
disk4 LOGICAL
disk5 /usr/src reiser
disk6 / reiser
disk7 /home reiser
When I'm all done partitioning and want to set mount points, it starts swap, then mounts /, then /tmp, then comes up and says Abort Installation? Yes No. I put No and it brings up the same question and Yes drops me to the command prompt. I cant re run setup and must reboot.
Any ideas why this is happening?
Thanks!!!
Joe

As a note, by default, Arch uses tmpfs and a RAM-based temporary filesystem.
As a second note, thought it may not work during the install, you can always put /tmp on a separate partition after the installer completes.

  • SharePoint Foundation which is installed during TFS 2013 installation has no search capability

I installed a Team Foundation Server 2013 . I opted to install SharePoint Foundation 2013 during the TFS installation on the same application server. The installation went well and everything looked fine. TFS was running and the SharePoint teamsites
were also purring like a kitten.
But then I tried to do a search from the default team site which was created for me. I got the following message:“Your search cannot be completed because no Search
service is available. Contact your administrator for more information.”
I clicked “New” and nothing… nothing happened. No dropdown.
Then I remembered that in order to get your Search Service Application provisioned you have to create it using the configuration wizard in Central Administration.
I started the wizard and when I got to the page where I needed to select the services I want, I saw only 1 service. The Usage and Health Data Collection service.
Anyway i found out that If you choose to install SharePoint through TFS, we will only configure services that you would need
to use for TFS-supported integration features.  We do this to conserve resources.  Search does not fall into this category, and moreover is one of the largest consumers of memory in SharePoint, so it is not advised to turn it on if you are running
SharePoint and TFS on the same box
Someone can help me maybe and advice what should i do to install the search service? (i don't want to install all things from start and i am not able to do that cause the developers working on the tfs2013 all day.

so, as you found, SharePoint's search (especially with SP2013) can be rather resource intensive... previous versions were much smaller in scope, but the SP2013 release includes what used to be the SharePoint 2010 FAST Search... and the FAST search engine
REPLACED all other search engines in SP2013, and as a result is included in the FOUNDATION edition.
Generally speaking, the search "service" includes several components, for crawling content, indexing, and more... each of these components are somewhat resource intensive (see http://www.sbrickey.com/Tech/Blog/Post/On_the_effects_of_memory_limiting_noderunner_exe ,
and be aware that each component can add a few hundred MB of RAM usage).
Additionally, the search index can be DISK intensive (MS recommends at least 500GB for most SharePoint intranet environments).
Finally, the indexing process will of course be somewhat CPU intensive.
So, it is quite understandable that search would be disabled by default, especially if you've got a SINGLE SharePoint server.
Most SharePoint environments that utilize search, have separate servers to provide such processing, without impacting the performance of users that are viewing content via a browser request. This is especially true when you look at SharePoint's Streamlined
    Topology approach.

  • Creative cloud installer just disappears during install

I had creative cloud and on last update most of the applications are gone along with the desktop icon.
I have tried to install creative cloud again - but it just stops halfway and disappears during install.
    I've tried safe mode install
Ive renamed OOBE folders in both librarys
I've tried the adobe application manager and that crashes on install
I've tried the Adobe clean up tool
Nothing is working to get creative cloud to reinstall on the computer - I've lost about 4 applications in creative cloud
Working on a Mac - Yosemite OS

Hi!  The cleaner failed - simply could not detect any creative cloud products. ( It did find a previous CS6 installation, long since uninstalled, actually).
Didn't get a chance to try ROOT, as an Adobe tech (Loveneesh) remoted in and did some 'known fixes'... basically he cleaned up the failed CC desktop installation ( deleted a couple of folders) - and then gave "wide open" permissions to a couple of sets of library folders ( One for machine, and one for user). I believe they were
    /library/application support/
    /library/application support/Adobe/
    /users/[username]/library/application support/
    /users/[username]/library/application support/Adobe/
Still couldn't install CC desktop, (failed twice!) BUT that at least allowed  the installation of "Adobe App Manager" - which was subsequently UPGRADED to CC Desktop. Something of a clever workaround, if you ask me!
And now its all working OK again.
I'm a bit bothered by the somewhat cavalier ""Everybody" permissions applied to library folders, but as I understand this is the quick fix when nobody quite knows what the heck is going on with permissions... (I suppose ROOT access gives much the same effect for installations)

I received an ITunes and Quicktime update notice on my Windows 7 PC, from Apple this morning. During the update installation, RealPlayer installed. What gives? Why is Realplayer installing with the Apple software.

Thanks for the reply. I went back to check if there was a history in windows (Event Viewer) but could not locate it in Win7. The only updates that were in the Apple Updater window were the Quicktime and ITunes. Had I let the Realplayer continue on its own, it would have installed the Google Chrome and other apps. I let it finish installing and then removed the entire program. I do not remember checking or seeing anything saying that realplayer was being downloaded until after a reboot was requested from the ITunes Update Installer.
I just thought it was strange since I do not use Realplayer and have not downloaded any software for it.
I am on a corporate PC with a pretty thick firewall, but something may have slipped through.
    Thanks again for the assistance.

  • Ultrabook Envy 6 1112TX unable to install sata disk with HDD mounting part 686594-001

    Hi,
I bought my Envy 6 1112TX,  it only has a small 128 msata SSD disk.   So I decided to install a new SSD to increase the storage.
After checking the user guide,  I purchased the disk mounting part  686594-001,  then I found that the cable is no where to connect to the laptop motherboard.  The interface doesn't match, so I cannot find any suitable socket to plug the cable from the disk mounting bracket.
There is a socket labelled as JHDD2 on motherboard, but it just cannot fit the cable,  and where JHDD1 is labelled, there is just no socket at all.
So please advise if the part number is wrong which indicated in the user guide,  or there is another socket which I missed, thanks a lot.

  • "WRITE SAME failed. Manually zeroing." error during install or boot

    Hello everyone!
Since the lasts kernels (I'm almost sure it happens since 3.9 because 3.8 worked fine) I can't boot on Archlinux anymore. This error floods my screen and I can't do anything, and because the new Archlinux iso (june 2013) comes with 3.9 kernel it now also happens during installation. Fortunately, I saved the may iso so I still can install archlinux and switch during install to LTS kernel but this is not a good solution. I can't find a solution online, some people have this issue but it seems to be a bit different everytime.
I use Archlinux on a server, with hardware raid : Dell PERC H200a with LSI SAS2008 according to my BIOS. According to http://kernelnewbies.org/Linux_3.7, the WRITE SAME SCSI command "allows the same block to be efficiently replicated throughout a block range. Only a single logical block is transferred from the host and the storage device writes the same data to all blocks described by the I/O (commit)". Here is the exact configuration :
    - DELL® PowerEdge R210 II
    - 1x Intel® Xeon® E3 1220 V2
    - HDD: 2 x 1 To SATA2 RAID
    - RAID: Hardware, Dell PERC H200, (Raid 1)
So my first problem is that I can't find online if my server is capable of this command (but I don't think so) and then the other issue is that I want to know if I can disable it. I found kernel patches for this issue :
https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/1898441/ and https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/1982051/ (the first link seems to be a better solution).
Then, I checked in the kernel source of 3.9 and I think that this patch isn't implemented (there is no device_write_same_capable function for instance). But kernel patching is not a really good solution, if I have to patch my kernel everytime the main kernel is updated...
After some research, I found that my hardware RAID driver seems (I'm not sure) to be the kernel module "mpt2sas", so I checked both may and june isos of Archlinux and it's the same version (14.1) so it shouldn't be the problem.
Does somebody can help me on this issue ? I don't really know what to do now.
Thanks for reading, if I forgot something or if you want more informations, ask me!
    Bye.
PS : My English isn't very good, sorry.
EDIT : I found a part of the solution ! It seems to be an issue with the kernel that doesn't detect properly if my disc is capable of doing WRITE SAME command.
So I have to write "0" in the file "max_write_same_blocks" under /sys. But the problem is that /sys is renewed every boot so I don't know how to make my changes permanent. I made a systemd service file, it almost works, but this solution isn't nice : the parameter is applied lately so errors shows at the beginning and this is not really easy to set up. I prefer a solution like "sysctl" but it seems that it only controls parameter under /proc/sys and not /sys, am I right ?
Moreover, I tried two other things : Ubuntu 12.04 with kernel 3.9.4 works and Archlinux iso with 3.8.10 has max_write_same_blocks > 0 and it also works... So I don't really understand this issue. Maybe in 3.8 the parameter max_write_same_blocks has no effect (or not the same as in 3.9) ?
Here is the systemd file that I made to reduce the issue :
    [Unit]
    Description=No WRITE SAME
    After=local-fs.target
    [Service]
    Type=oneshot
    ExecStart=/bin/sh -c 'echo 0 > /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:01.0/0000:01:00.0/host0/target0:1:0/0:1:0:0/scsi_disk/0:1:0:0/max_write_same_blocks'
    RemainAfterExit=no
    [Install]
    WantedBy=multi-user.target
This is not a good solution, see my next post. I don't delete it in case you want to compare.

I found a solution to disable the WRITE SAME command. That doesn't answer all my questions but it solves my issue. I was looking for a file like "sysctl.conf" but for /sys parameters : you already can do that in Arch, just create a file that ends with ".conf" in tmpfiles.d and add one line per parameter you want to modify. This file will be loaded early at boot.
To disable it in an existing Archlinux installation, add in you file the line :
    w /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:01.0/0000:01:00.0/host0/target0:1:0/0:1:0:0/scsi_disk/0:1:0:0/max_write_same_blocks - - - - 0
Read the manpage of tmpfiles.d if you don't understand this line, it depends on your configuration and you can't copy it.
Then reboot and no more error !
If you want to disable it during the Arch install, just change directly the value you want in /sys. You have to do it at the beginning before mounting partitions, for instance just after choosing your keymap.
    Bye.

  • Bootloader errors during install on Macbook 7,1

I had Arch up and running on my Macbook 7,1 with / and /home partitions, and decided that I wanted to make /home larger. For some reason, it didn't occur to me to just resize my /home and OS X partitions, so I backed up and wiped Arch off my disk entirely, with the intention to reinstall fresh and copy my stuff back over. When I go through the standard /arch/setup installation process, however, everything works fine until I get to the bootloader section. I get an error with both grub and grub2. Here's a more in-depth walkthrough of the process I'm using:
--note: I'm using rEFIt, and plan to dual boot OS X 10.6 and Arch, and maybe another distro to play with--
    1. Resize OS X partition in Disk Utility (mac app) and add three partitions for Arch as FAT32 (8gb for root, 24gb for home, 1gb for swap)
    2. reboot and sync partition table with rEFIt
    3. Boot from Archboot 2010.10-1 iso live cd
    4. go through normal /arch/setup
    5. at 'prepare hard drive' section, I skip to 'set filesystem mountpoints' and mount / and /home on the respective partitions with ext4 filesystems
    6. at 'install bootloader' section, I choose grub, and choose to install it on /dev/sda3 (which I've set to /)
this results in an error message which directs me to /dev/tty7, which, in turn tells me that grub doesn't recognize the filesystems of any of my partitions and therefore cannot mount /dev/sda3.
    Variations:
I've been through this process at least 8 times now, and have tried all of the following (from various solutions I've found searching google and the forums and just making stuff up):
using grub2 instead of grub (results in a different error, which suggests that I chroot /tmp/install and install it manually, which I tried, but it was a bit over my head)
using a separate /boot partition (tried this with ext2 and ext3)
installing grub to /dev/sda instead of /dev/sda3
using parted during the /arch/setup install process to make the partitions and filesystems (it doesn't like being used for anything other than partitions, though)
using gparted on an ubuntu live cd to make the partitions as ext4 before trying the arch installation
no swap partition (this is how I had it set up originally, but I thought I'd include one in case other distros I wanted to test out were less understanding)
I even tried just copying the system files from my backup to /tmp/install during the installation, but that (of course) resulted in different IDs for the partitions, among other things.
I've really enjoyed using Arch, and I can't wait to have it back up and running again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Alright, I've tried using the most recent archboot (2011.02-2) a couple times. I selected GRUB2 x86_64 EFI. It asked me whether or not I wanted to convert my existing MBR to GPT. When I say no, it says installation was successful, when I say yes, it drops me into parted, so I just quit. My GPT should be fine as is.
My issue is that now, in rEFIt, I only get OS X and Legacy OS options. Legacy just freezes my computer. The legacy option has been there since I last tried to install, though I've tried to get rid of it a few different ways.
Should I choose a different bootloader option? Can I use the cd to boot in and fix it manually? if possible, I'd like to keep using rEFIt.
