Mounting XRAID onto a solaris server

Hi
I need to migrate data from a hitatchi RAID currently managed by a solaris server to an XRAID that will be managed by an Xserve. If they are on the same network can I just mount the XRAID temporarily on the solaris server using mount -F nfs Xservername:/newdirectory /mnt and then just use the cp command to transfer the data or is that just not sensible.
Regards
  Mac OS X (10.4)

There's no problem exporting an Xserve RAID volume as NFS and then mounting it on the Solaris box.
You need to set up the sharepoint using Workgroup Manager on the Xserve RAID, but then you should be good to go. Of course, NFS security is... no security... so be careful with the default export rules.
Also, depending on how large the volume is, Solaris may have problems seeing exports that are larger than 1 or 2 TB. What version of Solaris is it?

  • How do you install the NT domain connector onto the Directory Server Integrated Edition 5.0 for Solaris?

The NT installation lists the NT Domain connector as an option. The Solaris version doesn't. I spoke briefly with a project manager at Sun who said putting an NT Domain connector onto a Directory Server on Solaris was possible, but I'm not sure how.

You'll have to install the NT connector on an NT machine. The Join Engine that joins this connector can reside on Solaris.

    Hi All,
I have a requirement to mount a windows share to two different Solaris 10 update 8 hosts . The below are the steps that i have done for the same but it got failed .
Please suggest a procedure and solution .
1 .  Created the network share  named " csv_source " on windows 2008 server . The share is given permission to everyone full access
2 .  I have enabled the samba service on solaris server
3 .  Created a directory on solaris server using mkdir /data
4 .  Used the " mount "  command to mount the volume but its failed .

Can you boot from DVD and do an "upgrade?"

Now I really feel stupid. A little proofreading would have saved me a big headache. In /etc/exports I was exporting to 192.164.1.0/24 while my network is the more standard 192.168.1.0/24.
It works fine now, although I did take phaul's suggestion and added my main share "inside" the nfs4 root.

  • Mirroring Windows Server to a Solaris Server using filesync & NFS

I am trying to mirror the data from a Windows 2000 server to a Solaris 10 server using filesync over NFS. I have been able to do this from one solaris/sparc machine to another without problems, but this heterogeneous sync is failing. The Windoze machine is running Hummingbird NFS Maestro Server. I've tried both an old version of Maestro (5.x) and the newest version. On the solaris machine, I craft the .packingrules file by hand and issue "filesync -o src" to copy from the nfs mounted source to a local directory. The initial copy seems to go well, albeit with numerous complaints about ownership and permissions. On either the second or third running of "filesync -o src", it wants to delete all of the files that it just wrote. Argh! Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not.
Perhaps I need to mirror in some other way. If all else fails, next I'll compile rsync on the solaris machine, trying it over NFS.
I'd appreciate any suggestions of how best to mirror.
By the way, my goal here is to show to Windoze PC users that this Solaris server can do everything that the Windows server can do, and more. With hopes, I'll be able to migrate completely off of the Windoze server.
    Thanks

smbmount doesnt exist for solaris 10.
The functionality would require a smbfs kernel module which is not available in solaris 10.
I think there might be a commercial product that provides this functionality, but its name escapes me at the moment..

  • How to mount SAN drive inside Solaris 10

    Dear Support,
I have some solaris servers, and storage administrator have given 1 of the solaris server 4 LUN. I will need to mount those drives inside my solaris servers. I would like to know how to do it step by step.
    Anyone can guide me?

    1. After I do rescan with DEVFSADM and I do sympd list will device appear?
    hostname#echo | format :
    Searching for disks...done
here you can able see non labled disks. you need to labled first. after labled, here you are not see disks.
    AVAILABLE DISK SELECTIONS:
    0.c0t0d0
    2. How can I see the device prior to formatting and mouting it?
After labled, you need to create the new file systems with user : newfs /dev/rdsk/c1t2d0sX
    cerate mount point: mkdir /test
    mount /dev/dsk/c1t2d0sX /test
    3. From the FORMAT command how do I know which is my new device as the server already has plenty SAN disks assigned?
    A): hostname#echo | format :
    Searching for disks...done
here you can able see non labled disks. you need to labled first. after labled, here you are not see any disks.
    AVAILABLE DISK SELECTIONS:
    0.c0t0d0
    4. From the FORMAT command how do I tie devices back to a SAN/Symmetrix device number?
echo | format | grep c1t2d0 (SAN device name)
    5. Then the easy part to the guru's how to I physically map/moun the newly added device?
you have fallow the above steps..

  • Mounting Aperture library on file server

It appears that Aperture has all the organizational functionality that my group has long needed, but we wondered if the library can be mounted on a centralized file server so that multiple users can simultaneously access it from their workstations.
I read a thread entitled "One Computer, Two Users, Shared Library?" that discussed permissions, but I am interested to know if anyone has experience using Aperture by having the application on each client machine and the library on the server?
    Bill

    William,
Thanks for the DAM software suggestions. The Extensis Portfolio Server 8 looks promising so far. However, check out the way James Pittman (on a later thread) is doing it just with Aperture by having their master photoss reside on an XRaid file server and referencing them to each user's Aperture library.

  • Can I merge or combine 2 "album artwork" folders? I have saved music onto an external server from 2 computers but the artwork that I have manually imported remains in the default folder in the music/itunes/album artwork folder on the respective PCs. Thx

Can I merge or combine 2 "album artwork" folders? I have saved music onto an external server from 2 computers but the artwork that I have manually imported remains in the default folder in the music/itunes/"album artwork" folder on their respective PCs.
i.e. artwork uploaded on one PC won't apppear on the other PC because it is saved locally...
I'm confident that i won't beable to just merge the 2 because thy'll have the same folder names.
On the same note: can I have iTunes create these files on the external server/Hard drive also so that either computer can use them at the same time?
(like I have my library- can the other files be saved remotely)
    Thx

    i'm using iTunes 10 BTW

  • How come My Sites can only be created when logged directly onto the Sharepoint Server?

    Hello Community
In Synchronization I populate the container with OU's that contain
Service accounts, user accounts created in the Sharepoint farm and a
domain local group containing a OU with all of the trusted user accounts.
AFter populating the container I perform a User Profile Synchronization.
After the User Profile Synchronization finishes MIISClient shows "success"
including the OU containing the trusted user accounts.
Although I cannot Find all of the trusted users individually in Manage User Profile I
can find them with the peoplepicker when I add them to the web application
and the My Site Host application.
The problem is if I logon directly onto the Sharepoint server with an account created
in the Sharepoint farm I can create a My Site with that account. But if a trusted user
logs onto their computer and tries to create a My Site they get an error stating
    the page can't be displayed.
Even if I click "sign on as a different user" on the trusted user computer
and with a user account that was created in the Sharepoint farm and try to create a
My Site I get the error stating the page can't be displayed.
The reason the page can't be displayed on the trusted users computer is because although
it can access the My Site Host application it cannot access its default.aspx page.
So the question is how come when creating a My Site the My Site Host default.aspx page
cannot be accessed from the trusted user computer but when creating a My Site directly on
the Sharepoint Server the default.aspx page can be accessed and the trusted user and/or the
user account created in the farm can access the default.aspx page and create a My Site?
        Thank you
        Shabeaut

What does that mean "trusted user computer"?
How many servers you have in farm?
Are you using a single domain or there are multiple domains involved ?

  • How to find out the info regarding Solaris, server hang or shutdown.

    Hi
As I am handling the Solaris 9 Server remotely.
As in last week the server has stopped to respond suddenly, we have tried to ping, ssh which was not working. As ultimately we have asked the Data Centre Team to hard reboot the same, to resolve the issue.
In the same ref I would like to know how we come to know the reason, what caused to reboot the same, i.e . any log file, etc..
I have check /var/adm/messages, but not found any detail for the same.
    Thanks
    Rajan
    I

    No core files?
    No hope for an answer.
As you learned in the other Internet forum.
    http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/solaris-opensolaris-20/how-to-find-out-the-info-regarding-solaris-server-hang-or-shutdown.-621500/
    To get such corefiles analyzed,
you would need to use your service contract and log a support case with Sun.
They have the special software tools to do that.

  • Problem with downloading the internal table onto the presentation server.

    Hey folks,
I have a problem where in i am downloading one year of sales done by the company. I wrote a program to download the file onto the presentation server . The error occurs in the FM GUI_DOWNLOAD where if the file exceeds 105843504 bytes its giving me a dump saying that
When the program was running , it was established that more memory was needed than the operating system is able to safely to provide.
The current program has to be terminted because of the program already requested 105843504 bytes from the operating system with malloc when the operating system reported after further memory request that there was no more memory space available.
Could somebody provide an alternative soltuion for this.
Its really urgent as i can download the file with 70,000,000 bytes
    Regards
    Rock

    Hi Rock,
Please download the files on to Application Server, else as suggested by Ashish download into 2 or 3 files and merge them manually.
Declare same internal tables may be 5 times.
When you fill the internal table check for a counter and when you hit a certain number stop appending to it and start appending to the next.
After you are done so download all the internal tables.
I guess this would be a good way. I am not sure if there are any ther alternative good methods.
    Hope this helps.

I have updated the class path. But what do i have to do in jvm.
Any way there is one more solution which worked.
    Step 1 . Install Oracle Forms 10.1.2.0.2
Step 2. Copy jacob.jar in java home
Step 3. Copy jacob.dll into webutil directory in forms directory.
    Thats it.

  • How to deploy OHW onto Oralce Application Server?

    I down load the demo-bundle.
It is set in c:\ohw\. I startup the OC4J from c:\ohw\bin. And the help system can be launched from URL http://localhost:8888/.
Also I modify the Oracle Application (in Jdeveloper 10g1.3.2.0) to make it work with the helpset in demo-bundle.
I follow the instructions in "Deploying OHW Using the Unconfigured Bundle" to create a ear file which contrains a WAR file (it has helpsets directory, (and files), ohwconfig.xml file, the cabo directory, and the WEB-INF directory.
Then I caret a zip file which has application.xml file and META-INF file and the WAR file. Then rename it a ear file.
After all, I intend to deploy the ear file to Oracle Application Server.
    It fails with message:
Failed in uploading archive. Invalid archive file: Unsupported archive type. unknown
    1. Where is the right location in Oralce Application Server for servlet container ?
    2. What is the right way to deploy a helpset onto Oralce Application Server?
    Thanks

Same as you would deploy any .NET application. There are two ways to do this:
1 - Simple copy files to win2003 server and create virtual directory (if you copy to default location just create IIS application using inetmgr)
2 - create deployment project that will generate setup for you. execute setup on win2003 server and follow the steps.
