Mouse over / rollover

Can you do mouse overs or rollovers on iWeb? Where you drag the pointer over a link and the links enlarges or highlights.
Sully

You can't create those kind of rollovers IN iWeb. You'd have to create your graphics separately and then edit your files after publishing. iWeb only handles creating graphic rollovers when you use a non web safe font (it gets converted to a set of png's in the default text rollover colors). I've got an example of using text dingbats as rollovers here.

I've got another page here (along with a demo file for download) that displays how you can create full color rollovers using the demo version of eZedia QTI. It has it's own drawbacks in that you still have to edit your files after publishing for Windows browsers (to make it look better). Also, for IE specifically, if you use a background graphic, it can't be a .png or worrying things will happen.

  • Mouse over flicker problem

    I'm fairly new to Flash and couldn't find the exact same problem in the forums so here goes.
    Flash CS4, Actionscript 3.0
    I have a button that I have a mouseover event making another button appear (thus making it look like a color change).  It flickers like crazy with the mouse over.  Any suggestions?
    Here's the page (mind you nothing on it but this so far) http://www.forepointusa.com/flash/qbooks/keyfeatures.html
    Here's the code: (IT is the button you see when you first look at the file.)
    import fl.transitions.Tween;
    import fl.transitions.easing.*;
    ITBlue.alpha = 0;
    ITBlue.y = 130;
    IT.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER,showIT);
    IT.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OUT,hideIT);
    function showIT(e:MouseEvent):void {
    ITBlue.y = 172.3;
    ITBlue.alpha = 100;
    function hideIT(e:MouseEvent):void {
    ITBlue.alpha = 0;
    ITBlue.y = 130;
    Any suggestions are appreciated.

    Is there a reason you don't use the one IT button and just use its Over frame to display it as blue?
    Note: in AS3, alpha ranges from 0 to 1 (not 100).
    To explain why you have what you have... I am assuming ITBlue is another button.  When you put ITBlue in front of IT you essentially block IT from the mouse, so you ignite IT's rollout function, sending ITBlue back out of the way, which ignites IT's rollover function again, and the cycle goes on unending.  If you hover just on the lower edge of IT, where ITBlue doesn't reach, you'll see it works as desired.
    The simplest way around this is to use the one button approach, as there will be no code needed for the rollover and rollout for what you have it doing now.
    An alternative would be to place ITBlue in its y = 172 position permanently, change IT to a plain graphic symbol, and use your current code assigned to ITBlue instead of IT, but again, it would be unecessary.
    Just some added info... An object that has its alpha set to 0 is still fully mouse interactive... an object that has its visible property set to false is not.

  • Mouse Over Behaviour

    I am currently developing a toolbar application and have an
    issue with mouse events.
    Currently there is a parent canvas which has a mouseOut event
    where the canvas is hidden. Within that canvas there is a Hbox
    which contains images which have an mouse click event. When I mouse
    over the image it triggers the parent MouseOut event.
    having looked at
    http://nondocs.blogspot.com/2007/04/flexfaqmouseevents.html
    but it does not resolve the problem. having also tried to identify
    the event.target.id but it does not register for the imagme
    mouseOver and gives exception errors.
    Anybody got any ideas for the HBox child does not trigger the
    MouseOut event. Also tried switching it to a button.
    I would really like to not have to hack a solution with using
    the mouse x and y coordinates.
    Hope somebody can help Im going round in circles.
    Thanks

    The mouse events are very low-level and fire in unexpected
    ways.
    Usually you should use the rollOver and rollOut events. The
    seem to be better behaved.

  • Mouse over event listener? in Flash CS4 (AS3)

    Hi,
    I was wondering if there is such a thing as a mouse over listener.
    So that it would execute code when the mouse rolls over(and maybe also execute code when the mouse moves away again)
    Thank you for any help.

    yes, there are mouseover and rollover events, as well as, their "out" events:
    MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER
    MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER

  • Mouse over question

    i've made some buttons that on mouseover shows a larger picture above the button. when the cursor leaves that button though the picture disappears until the user mouses over the button again. is there a way to ensure that the picture stays up until the user mouses over another button (then they would see another image)?

    Gotcha. Well, here's a "for instance."
    Suppose you turn an image into a Movie Clip Symbol. The first frame of your new clip is where your initial button image is. On frame two insert a keyframe and name it "Start" or something like that.
    Then, insert a new layer above your original button image. Using the square tool, draw a square over your image. Convert that square to a button symbol. Highlight it, then choose "Edit in Place." Highlight the square image again, right click and choose "cut." Insert a new keyframe on the "HIT" frame, then paste in place that square. You can exit edit in place.
    Click on the button you just made, go to Actions and write something like this.
    on(rollOver){
           gotoAndPlay("Start")};
    This will move the playhead to the start frame. If you plan on animating your button, make sure you place a keyframe and the end of your animation. Open your actionscript layer, if you have one (otherwise, make one and insert a stop action in the last frame). stop();
    This will make the movie play when someone rolls over the hit button you made, which is placed over your original image. It will stop the playhead wherever your button animation stops. If you do the same thing for another button, when the user clicks the other button it will move the playhead to that movie section.
    I'm not the best at explaining these things, but hopefully that offers some clarity. I can try to get a little more detailed if need be.
    Good luck.

  • How can I animate size and rotation on mouse over?

    Hello,
    I'm fairly new to Edge Animate and have been trying to find tutorials but all I've found so far are ones for older versions which are very different to the new CC 2014 versions so not had much luck..
    I'd like to animate icons similar to the those on the coloured band on this site: http://do.live147.com/html/rockox/index.html  ("Website", Latest Trends" etc..)
    So on mouse over I'd like to animate the scale and rotation of the icon, and then if possible, to keep it in that new state until another icon is selected (rather than returning on mouse out).  All icons are for a design in Muse (CC 2014).
    Can anyone help me or point me towards some new tutorials which covers this?  I'd appreciate any clues on how to do this!
    I'm using Edge Animate CC 2014.1 on a Mac.
    Thanks in advance!
    Anne-Marie

    Ooh okay - thanks Heathrowe - I see what you mean about using the symbols to group animations, does seem much simpler!
    So, putting the question back out there...
    I've managed to implement the mouse rollover states;
    mouseenter:      sym.getSymbol("Concept").play('Over');
    mouseleave:      sym.getSymbol("Concept").playReverse();
    When each one is clicked, it holds;
    click:  sym.getSymbol("Concept").play('Click');
    Now I need to figure out the code to make each symbol continue to hold after it's been clicked on (even if the mouse rolls over them again), and playReverse ONLY when another symbol is clicked.  My plan is to have information appear under this banner which changes depending on which tab is selected.
    Here's my project if it helps to see...  http://we.tl/u8r6sZNvdA
    Any help would be hugely appreciated!!
    Thanks

  • Buttons Going Cr@zy when you mouse-over!!

    I'm having a really annoying issue that I can't seem to figure out why it's happening.  I setup navigation buttons for a site I'm working.  Using Action Script 2.0 and Caurina Tweener effects.  I've set it up so the buttons shoot out when you mouse over.  The problem is when you hold your cursor to the outer edge of the button it starts jumping rapidly.  I can't seem to figure out why this is or how to stop it.  I'm thinking about maybe putting a stop action when you mouse-out but I can't seem to get that to wrok either.  I might be soing something wrong with that code.  Ifsomeone could please look over my code and let me know what you think the problem is I would really appreciate it.

    you can delete that file, if you want.
    the top border of those buttons exactly display the problem i suggested.  when you mouse over the top edge, the button moves away from your cursor triggering a mouse out event.
    to remedy, don't have your button move away from the top (or any other) edge of the button.
    and my previous comment was to counter your claim that you see this done elsewhere without the problem.  post a url where a button moves away from the cursor and does not trigger the problem..
    you could expand an alpha 0 shape at the top of your button on rollover so a rollout is not triggered but the same design appears.

  • Mouse over images

    How can I create a mouse over image that appears below a navigation/menu button?

    Hello,
    You can have an image filled in the rollover state of the menu item, and that would appear when hovered over the menu item from the front end of the site. Check this related post: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5680522#5680522

  • AS3 infinite scroll mouse over link

    i am create AS3 infinite scroll bar. i want to put mouseover  hyperlink to every picture. any body know how can put mouse over.
    please help me

    Do you know how to assign event listeners and event handler functions for them?  If so, you assign the listener to the object you want to rollover, using either MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER or MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER as the event.

  • Behaviour on mouse over ?  Please help

    Hi,
    I am very new here so please be patient when you read about
    my "ignorance". I am making a website for a friend designer and
    here is the idea :
    - the "main" page contains a picture of a cabinet with 5
    drawers (which serve as menu buttons)
    -The idea is that when you roll over the drawers with the
    mouse, the picture changes into one with that particular drawer
    open and the subject written next to it.
    -When you roll further the next picture appears, etc.
    -When clicked on any of those pictures (the open drawer) the
    behaviour should be to go to the dedicated html.page
    The problem :
    The picture is a full screen size picture (250kb).
    I thought that with putting hotspots on the main picture, and
    using the hide and show layers behaviour I could make this work but
    it does not seem to do anything right. (when moving the mouse over
    and off the drawer the picture keeps jumping back and forward)
    Can anyone suggest a better way to do this ?
    Please feel free to ask for more info if the above does not
    make sense to you.
    Thanks
    Bubbles

    What you probably want to do is create invisible buttons that you place over the main image.  These will provide the rollover triggering that you want.  To make invisible buttons you can create button symbols that only have a shape in their "Hit" frames.  That creates a button that you can still see while editing but do not appear in the published file when you run it.
    Then you need to have an image that rolling over that button will bring into view.  It would be preferable to have the images that appear be away from the buttons so that they don't interfere/block the buttons, so each larger image may have to be placed in a different area.
    To control an image that appears, for starters you could just have it invisible and make rolling over the button make it visible.  You would need to convert these images to movieclips in order to accomplish that.  So let's say you create an image movieclip and place it on the stage and assign it an instance name of "image1" (instance names are assigned in the properties panel).  And for that image/movieclip's button you add a button over the main image and give that an instance name of "btn1"
    To make them work as planned, in the timeline in the same frame (different layer) where you have btn1 and image1, you would add code as follows...
    image1.visible = false;
    btn1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, showImg1);
    btn1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OUT, hideImg1);
    function showImage1(evt:MouseEvent):boid {
         image1.visible = true;
    function hideImage1(evt:MouseEvent):boid {
         image1.visible = false;

  • Mouse over highlighting

    Hello
    i use layered menu in dvd studio. when i build the dvd, and played on computer, i have to click to the button to highlight, and click again to activate.
    why must i click to highlight the menu? i want to highlight to mouse over. how?

    Hi - welcome to the discussions. This is a fairly frequent question, and the answer is that this is the way layer based menus work. To get the rollover you have to use a standard overlay menu.

    The cpu resources are only limited once the cpu's are 100% utilized. It is highly unlikely that dom0 will try to use 100% of a cpu, let alone all cpus. Only when there are no idle physical cpus would you run into issues.
    You may want to try reducing the number of vcpus in the windows guest. I have seen reports from users claiming that having more vcpus in a windows guest causes it to run slower.
