  • How to trace an application in Oracle 10g

    Hi,
    I want to trace a complete application in Oracle 10g end-to-end.
    Here is the scenario,
    The are two systems:
    System A: Oracle 10g server
    System B: Windows server
    The application runs on system B.
    How do I trace the complete application in oracle 10g?
    I read about the trcsess tool but will like to know if there is a way to collate all *.trc produced by the application.
    Thanks in advance!
    -Thanks
    Karthik

    Tracing the Oracle transactions is easy, but you need to decide what level of trace you want and identify the database sessions to trace.
    Tracing can generate huge amounts of logs, so think carefully if you really need to do this.
    The tracing will only capture the database transactions. It won't track what happens in the application (e.g mouse clicks etc)
    Options to enable tracing :-
    -- ALTER SESSION
    alter session set tracefile_identifier = 'robert_trace'; # so that the trace files from this session are easily identified
    alter session set events '10046 trace name context forever, level 8';
    -- ALTER SYSTEM
    alter system set sql_trace=true;
    -- DBMS_SESSION
    exec dbms_session.set_sql_trace(sql_trace => TRUE);
    -- DBMS_SUPPORT
    exec dbms_support.start_trace(waits=>TRUE, binds=>FALSE);
    -- DBMS_SYSTEM
    exec sys.dbms_system.set_ev(72,21237,10046,12,'');
    -- ORADEBUG
    select username, spid from v$process;
    ORADEBUG SETOSPID 21237
    ORADEBUG EVENT 10046 TRACE NAME CONTEXT FOREVER, LEVEL 12
    -- DBMS_MONITOR
    exec dbms_monitor.session_trace_enable(session_id=>75, serial_num=>21237);

  • Installation of OracleAS 10g on Red Hat Linux ES 3.0

    Installation of Oracle AS 10g on RedHat ES 3.0
    Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3
    Copy from OTN Note
    Start
    Oracle 10g is certified to run the base release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 (Advanced Server and Enterprise Server) without updates. If you have update CDs, you can use the boot CD from the update instead of the boot CD from the base release to automatically apply all updates during the installation. All updates from Red Hat are supported by Oracle.
    1.     Boot the server using the first CD.
    o     You may need to change your BIOS settings to allow booting from the CD.
    2.     The boot screen appears with the boot: prompt at the bottom of the screen.
    o     Select Enter to continue with a graphical install on the console. (For other installation methods and options, refer to the Red Hat Installation Guide.)
    o     The installer scans your hardware, briefly displays the Red Hat splash screen, and then begins a series of screen prompts.
    3.     Language Selection
    o     Accept the default.
    4.     Keyboard Configuration
    o     Accept the default.
    5.     Welcome Screen
    o     Click on Next.
    6.     Mouse Configuration
    o     Accept the default.
    7.     Installation Type
    o     Select Custom.
    8.     Disk Partitioning Setup
    o     A thorough treatment of disk partitioning is beyond the scope of this article, which assumes that you are familiar with disk partitioning methods.
    (WARNING: Improperly partitioning a disk is one of the surest and fastest ways to wipe out everything on your hard disk. If you are unsure how to proceed, stop and get help, or you will risk losing data!)
    This article uses the following partitioning scheme, with ext3 for each filesystem:
    The 9GB disk on the first controller (/dev/sda) will hold all Linux and Oracle software and contains the following partitions:
    - 100MB /boot partition
    -1,500MB swap partition—Set this to at least twice the amount of RAM in the system but to no more than 2GB (32-bit systems do not support swap files larger than 2GB). If you need more than 2GB of swap space, create multiple swap partitions.
    -7,150MB root partition— This partition will be used for everything, including /usr, /tmp, /var, /opt, /home, and more. This was done purely to simplify installation for the purposes of this guide. A more robust partitioning scheme would separate these directories onto separate filesystems.
    9.     Boot Loader Configuration
    o     Accept the default.
    10.     Network Configuration
    o     It is usually best to configure database servers with a static IP address. To do so, click on Edit.
    o     A pop-up window appears. Uncheck the Configure using DHCP box, and enter the IP Address and Netmask for the server. Be sure that Activate on boot is checked, and click on OK.
    o     In the Hostname box, select manually and enter the hostname.

    ] –o [  and at line # 102 make= /usr/ccs/bin/make to /usr/bin/make remove ccs and save the file
    There will no error in installation in infrastructure
    Same as done with relink file in Middle tier installation. I would like to turn ur attention for a serious problem no one asked about it. Here u have seen that a script make 3 file in /usr/local/bin for infrastructure and middle tier when u finished infrastructure’s installation plz rename that 3 files as
    Mv coredb coredb-infra
    Mv dbhome dbhome-infra
    Mv ora     â€¦     ora…-infra
    If u overwrite that files by creating same name of middle tier files no problem.
    When problem comes?
    AS will work fine but when u have to install patches on AS then problem comes if u have overwrite that files. So plz rename them before creation of same files of middle tier. Thanx

  • Problems using Quick Migrate in SQL Developer 1.5 for MySQL to Oracle 10g

    Hi all,
    I am trying to use SQL Developer 1.5 migration tools (Quick Migrate) to perform online capture and build source model to migrate from MySQL 5.x to Oracle 10g on Windows platform. I get these errors and the Quick Migrate process fails:
    oracle.dbtools.metadata.persistence.PersistableObject.doInsert(PersistableObject.java:238)
    I did a search and used the sqldeveloper.cmd script but still fails. Then I created a new database and truncated the repository. I now get the above error plus two new ones listed below:
    oracle.jdbc.driver.DatabaseError.throwSqlException(DatabaseError.java:112)
    Error loading nls:OALL8 is in an inconsistent state
    Error occurred during capture: Protocol violation
    It fails during the capture process for MySQL 5.1 database
    when it begins to capture the tables from MySQL.
    Does anyone know how to resolve these issues when migrating from MySQL to Oracle 10g using Quick Migrate with SQL Developer 1.5 release?

    Hi all,
    I put the following in my sqldeveloper.cmd file:
    SET ORACLE_HOME=%CD%
    What is very confusing is that with SQL Developer 1.5, there are several levels and several SQL Developer executables! I am really not sure which of these to use:
    I created the SQLDeveloper 1.5 directory called SQLDeveloper1_5 on Windows:
    1) cd C:\sqldeveloper1_5\sqldeveloper-5338
    there exists a sqldeveloper.exe
    2) cd c:\sqldeveloper1_5\sqldeveloper-5338\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper.exe
    3) cd c:\sqldeveloper1_5\sqldeveloper-5338\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloer\bin\sqldeveloper.exe
    Which SQLDeveloper 1.5 executable should I be using and where should I place the
    sqldeveloper.cmd file?
    Also I did try to use a different database and schema for the repository with Quick Migrate but it appears a bug exists in SQL Developer 1.5 version that causes errors with Quick Migrate for MySQL to Oracle? Is this correct?
    As an update, I ran the following commands:
    cd to
    c:\sqldeveloper1_5\sqldeveloper-5338\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin
    sqldeveloper.cmd sqldeveloper.exe
    Start sqldeveloper.exe
    Perform standard capture for MySQL using the new mig2 schema as the new repository
    It starts the capture but fails on the errors below:
    Error loading nls:OALL8 is in an inconsistent state
    UPDATE
    ============================
    I tried this again and it worked with the exception of one error message listed below:
    Here are the steps that I followed:
    1. Create a Windows cmd script
    Put the following entries in the script:
    SET ORACLE_HOME=%CD%
    save the command windows script as sqldeveloper.cmd
    Copy this script to the base installation directory for SQLDeveloper
    Example:
    1. cd c:\SQLDeveloper1_5\sqldeveloper-5338\sqldeveloper
    2. Start SQLDeveloper with the command script that you created earlier
    Example:
    Open a Windows shell prompt window and execute the following scripts:
    a) sqldeveloper.cmd sqldeveloper.exe
    b) sqldeveloper.exe
    3) In SQL Developer 1.5
    From the Migrate menu,
    a) Delete current repository and create a new schema in Oracle target database call it mig2.
    b) Then create a new repository in SQL Developer 1.5
    c) Right mouse click on the MySQL 5.x database and choose capture
    It worked with the exception of one error message:
    o.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver
    Error while registering Oracle JDBC Diagnosability MBean.
    So it looks like something is screwed up with my JDBC drivers and configuration for MySQL. How do I diagnose the JDBC driver issue for MySQL?
    Thanks!!!

  • Oracle 10G forms not running.......very urgent

    Hi all,
    shayan here......
    i have just installed oracle databse 10g and oracle 10G developer........i have done it first time....the forms is not running even the test form is not running....i have start the OCJ4 but still the same result..............any sujjestion how to configure....
    plz tell me

    Shayan,
    I assume that you are trying to run the form from within Forms Developer and that you are connected to the database.
    Now you have to apply the URL that have to be used when running a form. At one of the tabs in the options screen (where you also can choose to save before generating and generate before running or to get debug messages) you can set the default URL by pressing a button.
    At this moment I don't have a 10g installation in reach so I cannot give you the exact menuoptions and mouse clicks.

  • Can not reset password in Oracle 10g Express

    I have searched google for 4 hours, now I am certain:
    "May be I am the only one in the world who have this problem."
    I installed Oracle 10g Express on my Debian5.
    I need to reset password for SYS/SYSTEM users
    So I checked online tutorial says I need to use a utility called "orapwd" to recreate a password file.
    Everything is smooth since now.
    When I finally find this "orapwd" utility. I type "orapwd" as a root user. Terminal replies "orapwd command not found".
    I then discovered the orapwd is some kind of x-execute file. After an extensive search on google I concluded that this kind of file is inexecutable.
    Many tutorials I read online specify that the "orapwd" is actually "orapwd.exe", but on my Debian system it is "orapwd" with no extension.
    Any suggestion is welcome.
    ps: is there anyway I can reset password without going through "orapwd" s*t.
    Best regards to all who have read to the end of this post

    And Billy, what makes you think Windows Administrators do not know administration on command line?Experience dealing with Windows SAs over a decade and a half.
    I got my first part time job as a Windows Administrator in the beginning era of Windows 95 in a small netcafe. The boss does not pay me but like me use workstations there for free.
    In the early days, I administrate both Dos and Win3.1. I do my work on command line primarily and wrote a hell lot of *.bat files. In those days it were quite different. Because administration and configuration came from a command line DOS environment. We for example never configured networking for a Windows 3.1 or WFW 3.11 client via a GUI. It was done by directly editing system.ini and protocol.ini and making the correct changes.
    And this made the guys and me almost fail our Windows CE certification because the silly multiple question exam asked which buttons to click in the GUI to configure networking and not how it works at actual system configuration level. In other words, it tested your knowledge of the GUI functions and not the actual system config and admin itself.
    And then Windows NT was released and command line admin became the exception and not the rule. The All-Config-Eggs-in-a-Single-basket called the Windows Registry exemplified this flawed approach.
    But since Window95 I find myself spending less and less time on command line, more and more on GUI and my work efficiency increase tremedously. I can record the mouse clicks, the key presses, then covert then into a script. I can change every setting of the system in just few clicks. In the world of Linux, this is still a dream, isn't it?You are missing the point. There are a large number of admin GUI tools available for Linux. But these seldom serve as crutches to configure the system, because of a i-am-clueless-factor.
    If two systems, both are equally capable. To acheive the same thing, system A takes 2 working hours, system B takes 8 working hours. Doesn't this makes system B inferior compare to A?Because of the lack of knowledge and skill of a person to do the required on system B in 10 minutes now takes 8 hours instead? Ignorance of an operating system does not qualify as making system B inferior to system A.
    In past decade, Linux became very popular in the server market is not becasue there are an increasing number of Linux system administrators who are good at command line administration but because Linux is becoming more user friendly. And as a result. This increased administrator's work efficiency and the same time reduce training cost which invites more people to learn Linux.Incorrect. There is a reason that 483 of the 500 of the fastest and most powerful computer systems on this planet runs Linux. And only 5 runs Windows.
    And this has nothing to do with imagined user friendliness. It has everything to do with technical superiority and total cost of ownership.
    So the more idiot proof the system is, the better the system will become.No. The less idiots there are, the better the quality of system administration, the better security, the more robust the systems are.

    SQL > alter system set smtp_out_server = '<mail_server_ip:25>' scope =spfile;
    System altered..
    Now we try the code
    begin
    utl_mail.send(
    sender => 'sender's mail',
    recipients => 'receiver mail',
    CC => 'optional',
    subject => 'Testing utl_mail',
    message => 'Test Mail'
    end;
    But we get the following error...
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-29278: SMTP transient error: 421 Service not available
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_SMTP", line 21
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_SMTP", line 97
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_SMTP", line 139
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_MAIL", line 405
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_MAIL", line 594
    ORA-06512: at line 2
    We also tried connecting to the mail server through telnet .But it is not getting connected..
    Please help us to solve the issue.

    From your own posting you may have the clue, if you try to access your mail server through telnet and it is not successful, it means the service is down or there are networking issues.
    On pre 10gR2 versions there was a bug 4083461.8. It could affect you if you are on 10gR1
    "Bug 4083461 - UTL_SMTP.OPEN_CONNECTION in shared server fails with ORA-29278 Doc ID:      Note:4083461.8"
    This was fixed on 10gR2 base and on 9.2.0.8.0

  • Stopping the Enterprise Manager Console (Oracle 10g on SuSE 9.1)

    I'm trying to stop the Enterprise Manager Console by issuing the command:
    ${ORACLE_HOME}/bin/emctl stop dbconsole
    Unfortunately, the command fails to stop the EM Console. Here's the output I get:
    TZ set to US/Pacific
    Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Database Control Release 10.1.0.2.0
    Copyright (c) 1996, 2004 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.
    http://<hostname>:5505/em/console/aboutApplication
    Stopping Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Database Control ...
    --- Failed to shutdown DBConsole Gracefully ---
    failed.
    The only way I can stop the EM Console (and related services--i.e., emagent) is to kill its process.
    Everything (Listener, DB Instance, EM Console) starts fine. I can stop the Listener and DB Instance without any problems. It's just the EM Console shutdown that doesn't happen cleanly.
    Has anyone else encountered the same condition? If so, what was the solution?
    Here's my operating environment:
    SuSE 9.1 (Kernel 2.6.5-7.108-default)
    Oracle 10g
    Thanks in advance for any help/insight.

    Has anyone else encountered the same condition? If so, what was the solution?Yes. Shutdown/reboot of the system made the error go away.
    Sorry, no better clues,

  • Migration from Oracle 9i 32 bit to Oracle 10G 64 bit on Windows 2003 Server

    I am working on migrating Oracle 9i 32 bit to Oracle 10G 64 bit on Windows 2003 from Old server to new server. We have db around 500 GB and 3 schemas. I installed Oracle 10G on new server, created tablespaces, schema's blah blah and now doing export and import at schema level from old server to new server.
    Import is taking more than 4 to 5 hours on new server. My manager is saying, window time is bit longer and he wants me to try possiblities to make this process faster. Can some one help me on this, to use the best possible method to complete this process faster?
    Will below step work, if I try?
    If I install, oracle 9i and 10g both on new server in different home directories and take the hot backup from old machine and restore on new machine in 9i home directory and use the upgrade configuration assistant from 10g and do the upgrade? Pls advice.
    Thanks in advance,

    It looks good.
    I have one question in below steps:
    To migrate an Oracle9i or older database to an Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1) database for 64-bit Windows:
    1 Perform steps 1 - 11 in "Migrating an Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1) Database".
    2 Shut down the database on the 64-bit computer:
    SQL> SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE;
    3 Start the database migration:
    SQL> STARTUP MIGRATE;
    4 Migrate the database as described in Chapter 3, "Upgrading a Database to the New Oracle Database 10g Release" in Oracle Database Upgrade Guide.
    In step 4, it says, migrate database as described in chapter 3. In chapter 3, it says, to do the upgrade the process using dbca or manually. Pls confirm whether do the upgrade process after issuing startup migrate or not.
    Thanks in advance.
