Move file using io

I am creating a program with allows users on the command prompt to move files fromthe source directory to the new directory...But the problem is that i dont know how to create one which allows users to specify which directory the users want the files to be moved to. Can anyone plz help me by providing me an example? I would be most grateful to you all. Thx!

1) Get the directory destination as a String input.
2) Validate it if its really a dir destination, the path exists, there are no parallels for the input et al.
3) If step one passes successfully, continue , else throw exception and get to the end of the program.
4) Create a file for the destination.
5) Open a File Channel or a writing Stream for this destination.
6) Open a File Channel or a reading stream for the source.
7) Connect both and keep moving the subsctance from the source to the destination.

Safari 5.1 won't play .mov files using the embed tag

Since upgrading to Lion (and Safari 5.1), any page that loads a .mov file using the <object><embed> tags gives me a "Plug-in Failure" error. If I take the HTML and load the same file using the <video> tag it works fine.
Did Apple drop support for the embed tag? Is there something going on with my Quicktime plugin?

please check to verify if you have the remains of plug-in attched to DivX and make sure you have installed quicktime plug-in by going to Safari -- Help -- Installed Plug-ins. If you ever uninstalled Divx without using Divxuninstaller, you'll meet this problem.
Now download Divxinstaller.dmg and run it. Then you'll see the uninstaller in the corresponding application folder.
Click uninstaller to fully uninstall Divx. Relaunch safari and enjoy!

How can I export a surround sound movie file using compressor?

I want to create movie files using Motion and Soundtrack Pro that have surround sound. I can make ac3 surround sound files in SOundtrack Pro, I can add them to projects in Final Cut Pro, but I can't see any way to use Compressor to output the movie files with surround sound. The encoding results in plain stereo files. Please help.

HI Tony, you should be able to do this simply within the Compressor.app V4.1.x using the "surround Sound Group" and the shipped setting DOLBY DIGITAL setting. Instead of just adding a file, you need to:
Add a "Surround Sound Group" (control++i or file/add surround sound group or use the "+" plus sign at bottom left corner of Current/BATCH window". You'll get a pane with the channels you need to manipulate.
Click on the tracks Icons L to Rs and select the surround tracks as prompted and navigate through the finder interface. .. simple. WAV, BWF etc
Optionally Add the video object from here too.
Select the BATCH job (top layer with the ORBIT looking icon)) and use the INSPECTOR (right pane) to see what audio objects have been selected and verify location etc.. follow the dialogue (follow your nose)
Then Select the SETTING layer and use the default DOLBY DIGITAL setting and form the "settings/Create Blu Ray/Dolby Digital" and drag it over the batch job setting
Select this and adjust the LOCATION for the target distribution
Select the INSPECTOR AUDIO pane (right pane) and adjust any settings and EFFECTS to your taste.
select the cluster (if one is defined)
+B (submit) the job for the distribution or another master.
This will work fine.. pretty easy.. You'll need to work the audio settings as you like. If you get stuck, use the compressor.app V4.1 help.. its actually good.

Animating a movie file using vectors

Hey,
I'm trying to do what i do with a bitmap image to a movie
file. I just go to modify/bitmap/trace and it traces my bitmap into
vectors and makes it look all animated and such. I would like to do
the same thing for a movie file that i have. Is there a possibility
to do that in flash, if not, what program should i be using? thank
you for your help.

One frame at the time, unfortunately. Perhaps using FLJS you
could write a commend
to do multiple frames at the time but not all frames will use
same setting and you
might end up redoing the setting, wasting more times.
Other programs that trace well , Corel Trace and Adobe
Streamline.

Create mov files using QT Pro

I belive that you know faster way to import 100 movies with avi extenssion.
I'm usin Quick Time Pro to create *.mov files.
Do you know fastest way to do converssion.
I'm using *.mov files to play movies in Front Row later.

Although I don't run the newer iTunes I feel fairly confident in saying it won't play AVI and there aren't any plugins for that. In fact iTunes won't play multiple other formats such as FLAC (marginal plugin support to supposedly make this possible). They simply don't have motive for supporting it, and in some cases a specific motive for not supporting it.
I'm not up on the Lion issues. From mumblings on various discussions on ASC I'd say it's a new OS and wait for the dust to settle (that's why I like old, comfortable systems ).
I'd suggest just learning to play avi with another player, even though they don't have the database convenience of iTunes. Also check Songbird. I can't run it on my machine so I haven't done so, but it may have extended features.

Extracting video metadata from .mov files using QuickTime SDK for Windows

I'm trying to create a service which will process .mov files and extract some statistical information from it, such as length, bitrate, video height / width , and if it's possible info about audio, such as audio levels number of channels etc.
I've downloaded a sample application which came with SDK and it uses a visual control (Asp.net) to load file url into and then extracts a Movie object which has most of the info I need.
problem:
I don't have ability to load a visual control as my program is a service application. Can someone tell me how it's possible to load movie object without using visual control and fetch all the metadata I need.

QT does not export sound from muxed mpeg files: QT Mpeg Limitations. This freeware should do the trick: Mpeg StreamClip
If the mpegs in question are mpeg-2 you will need to buy the mpeg2playbackcomponent from Apple ($20 US). Note that these programs will not work with encrypted Hollywood movies.

Exporting slideshow to .mov file using Ken Burns looks low res?

I've created a slide show using the Ken Burns effect exclusively, and after I export as an .mov file and pull that into iDVD (or watching it in QT player) the moves look like a very low resolution image was used instead of the high res files that I know are there. Any ideas of how to fix this? or is this just the way iPhoto handles the files when using Ken Burns FX.

Have your tried the procedure that seems to solve a variety of problems for the iLife applications? Quit iPhoto and delete your iPhoto preferences. To do this, go to your username> library> preferences> com.apple.iphoto.plist. Delete this file. Then reopen iPhoto; it will create a new preference file with all of the default settings.
Ken Burns also...images do not fit to screen any more.
I am not aware of an option to make the Ken burns effect "fit to screen". This effect is applied in a somewhat random fashion, so what you see on one playing of your slideshow can be slightly different when viewed again. You can avoid undesirable changes, like cutting off the tops of heads, by manually applying the KB effect to photos in question. The control is at the bottom of the window when in the slideshow mode. When you are satisfied with the way the slideshow looks, export it as a QuickTime movie.

There are two potential problem areas with many sub-possibilities here and you will have to some work on your own to determine which issue is at fault.
1) The MOV file container is generic and may contain audio and/or video data compressed in a format no longer supported by the media player you are using or the media player may not be programmed to expect an otherwise compatible data format to now be used in the MOV file container. In this case, you need to determine what codecs were used to create the data format that is not playing or is not supported. This can normally be done by opening the file in a player and checking the Inspector, Info, Properties, or similar window or use a dedicated media utility to determine this information. Once you know the format you can report back here with the information. You will also need to confirm in which media player you are attempting to play the MOV file. It will then be possible to tell you if the file should be compatible with this player and/or how to fix the issue.
2) The file may have a "security" issue. That is, Yosemite may include a security update that takes exception to something about the file—i.e., its container, headers, or the method by which the file was transferred to your system or some application used along the way. This problem is more difficult to solve. In some cases, you might be able to simply change the extension or copy the data to a new file container one way or another. In other cases, you might have to wait for Apple to fix the problem with a follow-up update or use an alternative player that ignores the supposed "security" issue.

I don't know how to load and play a video with JavaTV. But I've seen some posts telling that .mpg files aren't accepted by the JavaTV.
Some people said that I had to use .avi files and these .avi files, if they were converted from a .mpg file, must had been converted with the Cinepack technology, but I don't know how to do this.
If you find out how to load and play a video, I'd like to know, please send me an email or access my page and post there in the comments, so I can continue doing my application with a video.

Get .mov file Using PE 8

I get a message saying "format not supported or incorrect CODEC installed" when using the get command to bring in a .mov file to edit from my hard drive. Is there a CODEC I need to purchase? Using a new Dell PC Win 7. PE 8 Software came with PC. My old PC has Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 and I can bring it in and start editing just fine.

Unfortunately "Codec Status Undetermined" only tells us that the codec is too odd for even G Spot to identify! It appears to be an AVC/MP4 of some type -- but it's apparently not one of the common ones. And this is complicated by the fact that the video uses a non-standard frame rate (23.976 fps), a non-standard pixel aspect ratio (1.778) and a non-standard frame size (960x540).
Media Info has a larger library of codecs, so you can give it a try.

The simplest solution though may be to buy the program Quicktime Pro for $29 from Apple. It can read and convert almost any MOV file. It could convert the file to a 720x480 DV-AVI.

How can I move files using the title bar

I am using Mountain Lion, latest release (10.8.4) and am wondering if there is some secret options which would allow me to move files by clicking on the title bar (of e.g. preview) and moving it to a directory.
Unfortunately, I can only either create a link or copy the file. Moving seems to be deactivated, though I have learned from other forums posts that this was working under Tiger.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on the application. iCloud-aware applications (Preview, Pages, etc) have the behavior you describe, and you can't move a file by dragging the thumbnail icon, but there is a small popup triangle to the right of the filename which contains the option "Move To" - you can then select your destination. It's not as seamless and dragging and dropping, though, I agree.
Non-iCloud-aware apps, like Office 2011, still allow drag-to-move from the titlebar icon.

I was thinking about why the songs arent importing and I feel that its either, A) the format of the files has changed since you last imported them, or B) you may need to rebuild the iTunes library.

If your Podcasts list in iTunes is empty after following these steps, learn how to add them back into iTunes.
