Move Remote BLOB

Hi,
I am planning for the Remote BLOB Storage in Sharepoint 2013. as There will be lot of documents with large sizes. but before implementing the same, customer has a question that how to move the files from the one location to the other location.
As i have seen that it shreds the files and stores in the physical location. is there a way to do this out of the box using configuration or something.
or do i have to write some time job or console application which will download the documents from the document libraries and stores in some other location..?
please suggest.

I have two Sharepoint Server 2010 instances - test and production.
i've turned on RBS(remote blob storage) on test. In future i want to copy content database from prod to test. What should i do, if RBS is not enabled on production?
And second question. After RBS is on, all new files moves to external storage. I want to move to ext storage files, that already exists in my content DB. I found that i need to create second filestreamprovider
and execute Migrate() for new provider. Can i do this for first provider without creating second?

Why dont you plan to use Site backup then instead of database backup
In your case you will have to restore the backup to a RBS enabled SQL server. Then remove RBS from that database.

Remote Blob Storage Install - APPCOMPAT: no matching ProductCode found in database.

I am trying to install Remote Blob Storage in Sharepoint Server 2013 with SQL Server 2008 R2 Express, but it is not creating the table in the database.
Here is my script

To troubleshoot above error, please make sure the following things.
1. Use the RBS.msi file on this link http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=16978.
Do not download the rbs_x64 link given in TechNet article
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee748631.aspx .
2. Ensure that you run command prompt as administrator and then run your commands for RBS installation.
3. Follow the steps in this similar
blog to install RBS on SharePoint 2013.
However, if you still fail to install Remote Blob Storage, I would like to recommend you post the question in the SharePoint 2013 forum at

Installing Remote Blob Storage (RBS) Provider on Active/Passive cluster

We are implementing RBS for our SharePoint farm and have successfully got it installed and working for all Content Databases.
I've read a dozen or so guides but none of them cover installing on a clustered SQL environment and I need to install the RBS provider on the passive node but cant see any guides that mention it although its stated Clustering is supported.
Can anyone tell the correct way to install it on the passive node?

According to
this blog, it is supported to install remote blob storage provider on SQL Server active passive cluster. You could follow the installation steps in that blog. If you get an error like this:
Cannot use file 'c:\Blobstore' for clustered server. Only formatted files on which the cluster resource of the server has a dependency can be used. Either the disk resource containing the file is not present in the cluster group or the cluster resource of
the Sql Server does not have a dependency on it.
Then please replace 'c:\Blobstore' with the volume\directory which resides in the same group in the Cluster Administrator as the SQL Server resources.

You can get the application handle, from the name displayed in the task manager Applicaitions tab. Then pass on this handle to the Move Window WIN32 API, alongwith the new position you want.

How to move Remote Desktop License's from one 2003 server to 2003/2008

Hi Sir,
We have one windows 2003 server with 5 Remote Desktop connection.
Someone hack our server and all the files (including system files) had been corrupted.
Kindly guide us the procedure to move it another server 2003/2008.
So, Please tell me the procedure recover/repair corrupted files.
The virus is something like encrypted the file and given some email to decrypt.

Sharepoint 2013 RBS (remote blob storage) issue - Clustered datatbase

I have configured and enabled RBS on the CLUSTERED content database as per the following article

However, I need to clarify the following as it is different from an article to another: 1- Do I have to install the RBS.msi file on the sql server? or just the web servers in the farm? 2- After installing and configuring everything as per the article mentioned
above, sharepoint still stores documents in the content database and not in the blob folder. Anyone has any clue on how to troubleshoot this?

Remote Blob Storage for SharePoint 2013

Hi,
We have a Site Asset library in SharePoint 2013 for which we would like to connect it to the external storage or network shared drive. I read few articles related to RBS, most of them talks about using the same sql server hard drive as a external storage
instead of Content Database. Here we would like to connect it to the shared drive which is completely on the different server. Is it possible?
My other question is what edition of SQL server do we need to have in order to enable the RBS?

Can not find the the RBS tables after installing the Remote Blog Storage

I am trying to configure the Remote Blob storage on my Sharepoint Server 2013. I am using the SQL Server Express 10.50.6000.
Everything is going fine, but I can not find the tables in the Database.
I am not sure where I did the wrong thing.

Any way to change blob size -- do I need to?

I'm tinkering around with remote blob storage in my dev environment -- doing a lot of different options to see how it really works. One thing I noticed is that when I dragged a file to a document library and it got stored under my filestream filename
in the file system (instead of the mdf file of the provider database) that files it created seemed to be about 61k. So if I dragged a 5 MB PDF file, there would be about 85 of these small blob files. That seemed to be a little small and inefficient
to me, so I thought I could do something to increase the file size of the blob files and reduce the number of them. I tried to increase the filestreammaxsizeinlineblob parameter of the RBS.MSI installation from 61140 to 102400 (and I tried doing this
in a number of different ways that I don't want to count). When I did that, nothing seemed to end up in the file system. Then I started poking around in the database and saw the table mssqlrbs_filestream_data_1.rbs_filestream_data_1 and saw the
blob_size column and nothing was larger than 65641. So it seems that no data is being stored in the file system when I mandate a filestreammaxsizeinlineblob parameter of 102400 and that makes sense now looking at the aforementioned table because everything
was formed at a much lower size then the threshold I instituted. My two questions are this: 1) is there any way to increase the blob_size so it's larger and there are less files on the file system or is that something hardcoded into sharepoint,
and 2) is the 61 - 64k size just fine and what appear to be lots of files to me is really nothing for the server to handle? Frankly, the performance I got was quite good retreiving documents from BLOBs in my test environment, but was wondering what would
happen when it got actual use in production and tons of these files are floating around on the file system.
*This is a different issue than setting the minimumblobstoragesize in powershell -- I know how to do that*

2) It's fine, don't bother changing it.
The thing you're seeing at work is called Shredded storage. It effectively allows SharePoint and SQL to only store updates to large files. Part of this involves shredding files to smaller chunks so it can identify which bits have changed. Because you're
externalising BLOBs you see these shredded files on the disk.
RBS is no longer anywhere near as useful in 2013 as it used to be and for the majority of cases i'd advise against using it. It might actually be causing worse performance as you take a small but measurable hit whenever you use an externalised BLOB, which
is fine for large slow files but very counter productive for small bits of data that are best kept in the database.

How to use Blob storage to office 365 sharepoint online library documents

Hello,
Considering that we cant uploade a file with size more than 250 MB and it is recommended using Remote
Blob Storage (RBS) if large files are supposed to store in SharePoint.
My question is, how to use RBS or Azure Blob storage to store files instead of SQL database.
What is the configuration or code i need to write to accomplished this where i would prefer if it can be done simply using some configuration.
any sample or tutorial would be great help.

What we did, we deploy small Azure PaaS application what used Azure Blob Storage and table and then show it in Office365 SharePoint online trough iframe. This gives you flexibility to customimze the PaaS application and show the content at blog storage.
We tested this in SharePoint ONline multitenant and Dedicated plus in On Premise SharePoint with the custom code in separate IIS server published trough UAG to Internet. This allows you to save or replace your file server with Azure and small PaaS apps in
and show the content on SharePoint ONline trough Iframe.

Refreshing the BLOB

I've made a small web application about movies. For those interested
to see it work : go to http://www.gertcuppens.org/servlet/cluif.
The web app works with servlets and JSP's.
Now the problem is this : in the local version, I can select on the first
page the letter "B" to get all movies starting with a B. When I select
, say, "Bad Santa" in thsi list, I can see the detail screen containing
the poster of the movie (a BLOB).
If I go back to the list and select "the Blob" from 1958, I see the poster
with the photo of Steve Mc QUeen. If I go back to the list once more,
I can select "the Blob" from 1988, and I see the poster from this movie.
So locally, everything is OK. Then I published the web application on my
web site, and this still keeps on working.
But when I go to the office, and try to go to my web application at work,
whichever poster I see first, this is the poster that will be shown on all
the other detail screens.
So, for instance, with the above scenarion, I see the data from "bad santa"
and its poster. If I go to the blob, I see the data of the blob (title, year)
but still the poster of "bad santa".
So, at work, I can only view the first poster, even though I select other
movies. Can anyone tell me where the error is ?

The error has been found : it was due to the caching of
the proxyserver at work. The fact that I wrote
<img src="/gco/cluifimg" width="150" height="200">made the proxyserver think he already had done that when I asked him
for a second poster. So, he always kept on showing the first poster .
What is the solution ? Well, a very simple one : add a parameter
so the proxyserver thinks he has to do something different.
The most simple thing is to add a parameter equal to date + time.
So, writing the following lines did the trick :
<img src="/gco/cluifimg?nocache=<%=new java.util.Date()%>" width="150" height="200">With this line I fooled the proxyserver and got every poster I asked for.
I thought this might interest some other members of this forum.

Getting LONG RAW from remote database

Hi,
I have a table in my local database that has a LONG RAW column . I have another table of similar structure in a remote database (so it has LONG RAW as well). I would like to transfer data including LONG RAW data from the remote database into the local database table using PL/SQL. I know it is not possible to copy LONG RAW over dblink directly. Can anyone suggest an approach to accomplish this?
The local table cannot be changed to BLOB, but I have the flexibility to change the remote table to use BLOB. So, can anyone tell me if the following solution would work. If so, can you shed some light on what PL/SQL libraries to use or can you provide me with some sample code to implement steps 3 and 4 below?:
1. Change the remote table to use BLOB
2. Create a new temporary table with BLOB in the local database.
3. Copy data using PL/SQL from remote BLOB to local temporary table BLOB.
4. Copy data using PL/SQL from BLOB to LONG RAW within the local database from temporary table (w/ BLOB) to the actual target table (w/ LONG RAW).
I think step 3 can be a direct Insert-Select from remote table (I'll try this myself), but not sure how to go about step 4.

I don't know enough about VB and the available VB APIs to know for sure. I would assume that VB could be configured to generate a DLL with a C call specification. I would also assume that there was a VB API that would allow you to manipulate LONG RAW and BLOB data. Unfortunately, though, I don't know which VB API's have that functionality.

Displaying BLOBs

Recently i've been working on a rather modest application, which lists contacts. When a detail-link was clicked, a popup would come up with more details and an image of that contact.
The table this was based on contained a column photo_reference, which held a path to a folder under /i/. With this setup, it was easy to get the images working for each contact.
The popup i showed was a bunch of htmlcode i put in the region footer, and hid. When the detail was clicked, i retrieved data via an application process, and show a modal dialog.
Now the scope has changed: users need to be able to upload their own images. So, i went to work and made it so the images get uploaded into wwv_flow_files, and then i move them to a new contact_image table. So far so good. But now i want to display these pictures, and here i'm kind of stuck.
* I could include a column in my IR, and put a blob format mask on it with image. I've got this working, but annoyingly. My image table has as primary key the field 'ID'. My contacts table also has 'ID' as PK.
The format mask: IMAGE:APXT_CONTACTS_IMG:SMALL_PHOTO:ID::::::inline:.
Here the PK field (ID) works with the PK of my base table (contacts). My link between tables is apxt_contacts.contact_image_id->apxt_contacts_img.id . The way i could make it work is to rename my id field in the image table to contact_image_id. (why couldnt it just take the column it's based on as the value :( ). I could then hide the column, and take the image with javascript to show in my popup. Also, this way preloads all images for the amount of selected rows.
* get_blob_file_src also seems no use to me because of the limited use of the parameters (page items required etc).
* I'd much rather be able to get the image blob via ajax to then display in my popup, but i have no clue as to how to do this. I've made a stored procedure which gets the file to download and call this from an application process (ajax callback), and with firebug i can see the post/response, but i wouldn't know how to get this displayed as an image.

This way i'd only have to load the pictures of links clicked.
I'd rather not have to grant execute to public and call the stored procedure via the link, but if this is my only route, id rather go solve it the first way.
Instead of my existing code, should i make this work through creating another page, and juggle page items and their values around to try and get the same layout going, and then get that page through ajax? This would also mean extra work, im trying to minimize impact (=work) on the existing app.
tl;dr: is it possible to retrieve an image blob from a table not in the report query, preferably through ajax?

Our clients are a mixture of everything from Win98 to XP, including some Macs. There's no single place on every client I can be guranteed to have write access to. Many of our Windows users don't have write access to most of their C: drive, for exqample. Our Windows users have a standard F: drive on the network, but our Mac users don't.
So I would have to ask them via a file requestor where to save the file to for viewing. And since WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT needs a URL anyway, it seemed it would be more "transparent" to the user to move the BLOB file invisibly to the Apache server and launch it from there.
My guess is there's an Oracle BLOB utility out there that writes a BLOB back to a disk file. I'm just new to the whole BLOB process and am hoping someone could get me pointed in the right direction.
