Cant see or control case fans on MSI board

I just upgraded my PC to Devils Canyon and h87-g41 pc mate. Everything is working fine... except i cant see my installed case fans and they are running on max (i assume) and making a lot of noise.
The very old board i upgraded from had option in bios for automatic fan control under overclocking (if i remember correctly). I set it to automatic and case fans were controled based on temperatures.
But the new msi board cant detect them correctly. SPeedfan and cpuid hwmonitor does not show them, and they are not show in bios. And i cant seem to find any settings for case fans.
Only fan it detects is the aux fan at the back of the fan and controls it automatically.
I used Live Updater and did total install, so i should have all the drivers.
I plugged them in right, used the pins and not the molex.

On your board, CPUfan1, CPUfan2, and Sysfan1, are the only fan headers that are setup for sensing, the other two are 3 pin headers and very likely have no sensor on them.... as far as BIOS or any software are concerned, they simply are not there, if you need them controlled, you might have to buy a fan controller.
You could plug one of your case fans into CPUfan2, if that header is not being used, and then you would have full sensing and control of it.

Yes standard is 66MHz.
I did a little bit of research on your motherboard as far as I know it has AGP spped lock. Which means no matter how you set the speed of your CPU, the AGP should always stay at 66Mhz. There might be a manual override in the bios to raise it higher then 66, but you don't really gain anything raising it higher then 66Mhz.
I also read your motherboard might have problems keeping it locked at 66Mhz. So you might want to check to see if they have released any bios updates.
Most nVidia cards will work fine with higher then 66 so your problems might be something else. I'm not saying to set it higher I'm just saying they usually don't have problems running on a faster AGP bus.

How do I fix my case fans??

I have two 80 mm case fans (12v). I was wondering what the allignment of the fans should be. Should These fans blow air INTO the case or should they SUCK OUT the air from the case. I currently use a 350 Watt CODEGEN PSU with a single fan which sucks air INTO the PSU and hence INTO the case. Problem with sucking air into the case is that a lot of dust gets into the cabinet. On the other hand, sucking air out of the case leaves lesser air for the CPU and NB fans to effictively cool the CPU and NB. Any sugestions??
I plan to overclock, but not right now. The temperatures at no load are as follows:
With Side Pannels Fixed - CPU=51 Degrees Cel System=44 Degrees Cel
Without Side Pannels (Open Case) - CPU=43 Degrees Cel System=41 Degrees Cel

As mentioned in the other of your thread, you PSU is weak currently, so maybe when you get another PSU, it should be intaking air to the PSU and exhuast out from the rear.
Just always remember the rule of "Hot air rises and cool air falls" and you'll most probably know where the fans are to be placed. Next, you should always try to keep the same number of intake fans and exhaust fans to keep a good capacity of airflow within the chassis.

Reversing case fan advisable?

bought a MSI K7420N 3 months ago with the specs at the bottom. with the stock AMD HSF, temps were ok, 51 C idle, 55 C load. but i attribute that to the warm summer air.
now that fall is here and winter is approaching, my room is rather cool at night (gets to around 13 C ambient temp since my computer is near the window). i was thinking about reversing my case fan so that cool autumn air blows into the chassis. i tried this and it brings temps to 43 C idle, 49 C load.
i am thinking about keeping it this way for the winter, since i am cheap and would rather put on an extra sweatshirt instead of turning up the heat in my apartment.
so the question is, will the cool ambient air possibly create condensation? i guess i can keep the case open, to increase the air flow.
any thoughts? thanks

What Pete said really does not matter how you have it set up just so long as air is flowing through the case, is not stagnent no presrizing the case.
Ambient temp will 99% of the time be cooler than board temp so drawing cooler air in and accross the board and then out the case will provide optimum results,
The 'CFM' or cubic capacity of movement should be close to the same ie cfm in should be close to cfm out otherwise you'll get back pressure preventing good air flow.
So your environment would dictate air in from back or front and visa versa. condensation does not normally settle with a moving air flow and you would need a wet bulb reading in the 90's to cause concern

Case Fan Question

Alright guys, here's the problem. I just got my Radeon 9800Pro and all though it's sweet, it's pumping out too much heat. The heat is upping my case temp and my CPU temp which is fine for now when my P4 is @ stock but when I push it to 3.2GHz it's not. (The 3.2 barely upped a deg. when i was gaming w/ my fx5600 btw) So i'm doing two things to correct the problem. Buying a CPU fan (Zalman 7000-AlCu) and buying a VGA fan (Arctic-cooler VGA Silencer). I've heard these are good products. Anybody disagree? But that's not really the problem. Prob is my MSI board only has one case fan power adapter and I have another case fan I'd like to install it. Is there any way I can jerry-rig the 2nd case to somehow run as I'm sure it would aid a little bit in disappating the heat from the Radeon card? Thank you for your help and sorry for the long post. Two hard disks? You mean if I wanted to add two more hard drives excluding the ones in my system? Well thats great then. I'm just concerned about putting in a fan controller and some fans and shorting out my PSU. Thanks a lot guys. Ciao!
edit: While i'm on the topic, does anybody have a good fan controller they recommend or what I should atleast be looking for? Oh, and when I get my fan controller, there's no way my rear exhuast case fan will reach the front of my system to plug into the controller. How can I extend the wiring? Thanks!

URGENT !! Where to connect Case FAN's

Hi there.
I just got a new Lian Li PC-v1000 Tower, equipped with 2 1200mm FAN's.
One has a standard 4 pin's power connector
One has a 3 pin power connector (With sensor).
My Motherboard (MSI-K7N2 Delta), is equipped with a CPU fan (used), and a "System Fan" (also used by the Noth/South bridge chipset) connectors.
My Power Sypply, an Antec true power 480W, is equipped with 2 standard 4 Pin's power connectror dedicated to FAN's.
I connected one of my two "tower" FAN's, but ...
where to connect the second 120 mm tower FAN ?!?
I have no place anymore on the motherboard, and this tower FAN is a 3 Pin(with sensor) connector, that I can't connect to my psu !!
Any idea ?
P.S. : My psu is also equipped with a 3-pin fan signal connector ... that should be connected to my motherboard ... but where ?!?

i dont recommend putting those case fans on the motherboard without checking how much power they use as its possible they will burn the motherboard.
go out and buy a fan connector adaptor which you then connect to an ordinary molex contact.
i have seen adapters that would work with those "fan only" connectors.
i use my case fan on the fan only and its enough for me however it may not be enough for everyone so keep an eye on your temps
about the psu contact.
you can change the heatsinkfan to a zalman nb47j (northbridge)
i read a review where that passive heatsink performed better than the active heatsink on a asus motherboard did.
that would free up one contact.
dont do it if you dont know what your doing.

Case fan installation

I have a Tsunami case and there is a front and rear fan. Both have motherboard and molex connectors. Frome what I can tell, the case fan should be connected to the SYS_FAN plug. Where does the front fan connect? What is the PWR_FAN connector for? Also, I am still struggling with OS installation issues so my PC use has been limited to the BIOS, but thus far, none of the case fans have turned on. I have seen some posts online that say that the mobo connector is for speed control and that the molex still needs to be used for power. Another post seems to hint at the fact that power can be obtained via the mobo connector and that the molex connector is not needed. So, what's the scoop for these fans? Where do I plug them into the board and how do they get power? Thanks in advance.

I am guessing that you are using a power supply that has internal sensors for its own fan control...
Most people people connect the case fans to the motherboard jacks
So hook up the rear fan to the PWR_FAN jack
Hook up the front fan to the SYS_FAN jack
And if you have a side panel fan( some Thermaltake cases do), hook that one up to the NB_FAN jack
The 8 pin JPW supplies power to the CPU, you MUST connect that from your power supply..
The fan jack next to it, CPU_FAN is to supply power (and sometimes speed control) to your cpu fan...
Connect the 24pin ATX to your power supply
Also connect the the molex power jack (JPWR) to your power supply..
Basically hook up everything that has a power jack with the proper power from your power supply...
The case fans should come on when you click the power button on your case.
Note: some people hook up fans differently (myself included) but the above set up is typical...

Your question implies you want to control more than 1 case fan. The fan controllers on motherboards are for single small fans. If you put a large fan or several small fans on the controller you will burn it out.
No one will argue that Intel doesn't make a good board, but if you plan on controlling multiple case fans I don't think they will meet your requirements either. If you go with the Intel board you won't be overclocking and won't need multiple fans anyway .
For multiple fans you should use a rheostat bank (typically 4 sets of fans) or go with one of the power supplies that has a special connector to thermostatically regulate fan speeds.
As for MSI quality, my board works fine and the majority of issues posted here are related to getting the most out of the board (overclocking). Considering MSI shipped 3.65 million motherboards in the last quarter, I don't think quality is an issue.

At what temp will MB start case fans?

I apologize in advance if this is covered somewhere and I've missed it. I did some forum searching for case fans but didn't seem to find anything related to me.
I have a Z77MA-G45 installed in a SilverStone case with two front case fans. Those fans have never started running on their own, but the fans will run if I bump one / "push start" the fan. After playing a simulator on full quality my video card fans were going crazy and it seemed like the air inside the case was pretty hot, but the case fans weren't running. I thought something may be wrong, but then I thought maybe even with the video card fans going full-bore the internal temperature wasn't enough to start the case fans.
tl;dr Does anyone know what governs MSI's automatic fan control? How hot does it have to get in that case before the fans run?

None of your three pin fans can be controled. CPUFAN/ SYSFAN1/ SYSFAN2 are all four pin on Z77MA-G45. Other than on other MSI Z77 boards the fourth pin of all headers is used for control on this mainboard.

jpscwf: Personaly I always keep my fans on maximum anyway so I havn't tried saving settings at a lower level, better to have too much cooling anyway, rather than have your chip burn up..
netreaper: I may be wrong, but if your not running the corecell program then I don't think the fan speeds are adjusted. In any case, follow the instructions I gave above, and set both the fan speeds to maximum, that way you allways get the maximum cooling possible. Problem solved.

Running case fans on MB headers

In the D-Bracket troubleshooting thread it was stated that:
Caution: If the power rating of the fan on your CPU heatsink is >5watts don't plug it into the mobo header, it risks blowing the power trace in the mobo.
I am installing waterblocks on my CPU, GPU and NB, and as I know that this MB does not run without a fan on the CPUfan1 I plan to run my Rad fan which is a Papst 120mm on the header. I have 2 of these fans - one is 1.25w and the other is 3.2w (with higher CFM). I also plan to run an 80mm case fan on the NBfan header and it draws 2.4w.
My question = is the total power draw (3.2 + 2.4= 5.6w) too much for the MB or is it 5w per header max (eg. 5 + 5 = 10w MAX) ?
Also, will using a 7v reducing cable (with resistor) reduce the power draw ?

sounds right the draw is the same the power is just being dissapated by the resistor.
Interesting point is that some mobos appear to have cutouts to avoid overloading the fan headers. Abit Forum - Silversinksam - Don't know if MSI have anything like this implemented.

Good news - Fans didn't blow my mobo.
Bad news spent 3 days trying to find out why my rig won't post - no power - no fans turn is it my psu
I've been using these as they have their own fan control Molex & Speed line. Plus a good performance. Silverstone FM121 they also do 80 & 92mm versions.
The Fan control knob can be taken off the supplied bay & mounted elswhere.
Lower 31/4" bay with Silverstone fan controls its an old photo i've now got 3 in the bay & ditched the fan controller. (2x120 + 1x80mm)

Dual case fans and cd line in

I have a 648Max-L and would like to hook up two case fans (my AMS CF-2029 clear case has two fan brackets in rear and one 80/120mm in front).
In reading the manual and examining the board there is only one pin header for the case fan (sysfa)... so how do I hook up two fans?
second question... I have two CD's and my mobo only has one CD LineIn jumper... how do I get sound out of both CD's with only one CD LineIn pin header.

most modern boards do not any more need the line in the ide lead does it all
most pc shops will sell you a little adaptor to connect to a psu output
