Hey Jack did you read the whole thing?
Obviously not good enough. I had a look at the official BIOS update changelogs and saw that v1.2 included fixes that have to do with S3.
Quote
thought S1 was for sleep and S3 for hibernate.
Not exactly.  Just to make sure we are all talking about the same thing:
Most common Important ACPI Standby-States:
- S1
This is the most shallow sleep state. Power to CPU and RAM are maintained, fans keep spinning.
- S3 (Suspend to RAM)
Power to RAM is maintained.
- S4 (Suspend to disk, Hibernate)
All content of main memory is saved on the hard drive, preserving the state of the operating system, all applications, open documents etc.  After everything was saved to disk, the system will turn off.
If I am not mistaken, all you can do in BIOS is choose between S1 and S3.  In Vista you should be able to choose beetween Standby/suspend (S1 or S3, depending on BIOS settings) and Hibernate (S4).
So again, which of the three states are you referring to?

  • Scanning with Kodak i65 and Vista

    Hi,
I am having trouble 'Creating a PDF from Scanner' with a Kodak i65 scanner. Everytime I attempt to scan a document with Acrobat 8 and Vista I receive a scanning failed message. The 'Scan Validation Tool' scans documents fine to the .tiff format however when I try to scan documents with Acrobat 8 it doesn't work and I get 'Scanning failed.'
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

I have the exact same problem. Except I have the Kodak i30 Scanner. I have Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.2 (with the Security Update 1 installed).
In the past, I ran the following configurations on an older computer with no problems:
    - Windows XP & Adobe Acrobat Professional 6.0 (with all of its various updates)
    - Windows Vista & Adobe Acrobat Professional 6.0 (with all of its various updates)
    - Windows Vista & Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.2 (with the Security Update 1 installed)
However, when I built a new computer, installed Windows Vista Ultimate, installed the Kodak i30 Scanner, I receive a "Scanning failed." error everytime I try to scan directly into Acrobat.
BTW, I HAVE "tried with latest Scan Validation Tool and firmware update from Kodak site." Updating the SVT and firmware neither helped nor hurt.
Has anyone had a successful fix to this issue?

As Jim points out, CS3 was the first Vista-certified version, though many did get PrPro 2.0 to run on it.
Now, if PrPro 1.5 is running otherwise, you might have some luck with http://www.asio4all.com You'll need to download this freeware, install it, and then point PrPro to it in Edit>Preferences>Audio Hardware>Asio Settings for input and output.
    Good luck,

  • Video messed up with P6N SLI Platinum and ASUS EAX1950PRO

    Specs:
    CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4G
    4 GB Patriot Ram
    P6N SLI Platinum
    ASUS EAX1950PRO
    RocketFish 700w psu
Problem:  I don't get the grpahics card post screen just the MOBO's and the video is all messed up.  There are multicolored vertical blinking lines running up and down the screen.  I can see through the clutter that it is posting fine (it looks for a boot device) but I figure I need to fix the graphics issue before going any further.
I am working on a new system, so at this point everything is unplugged except the RAM CPU and video card.  I have tested it out switching the ram sticks out so unless they are both bad it is not the ram.  What is my problem?  ANy help would be rad.
    Thanks

Test your video card in a different system or try a different video card in the P6N SLI Platinum.

  • K9vgm-v - Problems with 500g HD and Vista

I installed Vista last night (fresh install) and have a 500g, unformatted hard drive (a Seagate NL35 ST3500641NS) that I just purchased from New Egg.  The Hard Drive is a SATA drive.
I've enabled the SATA as IDE in the bios, and have the drive plugged into SATA1.  It's showing up in POST as IDE3.  When I boot Vista and load the Computer Management, Disk Management console, the drive is showing up as 128GB.  The Management Console tells me that the drive has to be initialized, and gives me the option to do it so that other machines can read the drive (NTFS, I assume), or so that only Vista can read the drive (recommended for disks over 2TB, according to the OS).  No matter which one I choose, I receive an error and the disk is unformatable.
I understand that the solution to larger disks in XP was to simply install SP1.  However, I was under the impression that native support for larger disks was included in Vista.  I have installed the latest drivers for the K9VGM (the Vista drivers) and as far as I know, everything is set up correctly.  If this is a known problem (i.e. with no fix), would it work if I formated the drive in another machine, then plugged it back into my main machine?
Thank you in advance for any information you can provide.

Ok, so I haven't really had a chance to mess with it until now.  At any rate, I upgraded the BIOS to the latest version.  When I did that, at first (assume that it's always jumpered to 1.5 GB/s) the drive DID show in the BIOS, but with a seriously limited quantity.  When I booted in Vista, I could see the drive as I could before -- 128 GB.  Also, my internet connection would not work (couldn't get an IP -- I'm using the onboard) and the computer was performing all too noticably slower.  The Window Manager (or whatever it's called, only been using Vista for a few days) crashed, and the computer was moving very slowly.
I rebooted and went back into the BIOS, and lo and behold, the drive displayed 500 GB.  I booted into Vista and the drive, again, displayed 128 GB.  Long story short, after multiple reboots, I could only get it to display the magical 500 GB number once, and the computer was still performing horribly with no internet.
The only thing I could do was to roll back the BIOS, and all of the functionality was restored but, again, the drive isn't recognized in the BIOS and still displays the limited quantity in the OS.  I did bring the drive over to a friends and he was able to format it on a Gigabyte board that supports 3.0 GB/s at full capacity, so I know it's not the drive.
    Any other suggestions?

  • Net Issues with P6N SLI Platinum

I can't get the system to recognize the router or network or even access the internet when plugged directly into the cable modem. I've power cycled plenty of times, and the other systems in my network work without fail. I've disabled UAC, windows firewall, and anything else that might be interfering on the software end. I have installed the latest drivers from the msi site, and have even installed the latest nforce drivers from NVidia's site as well. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

    1. make sure you enable LAN in the BIOS
    2. make sure the LAN driver is properly installed in the BIOS
    3. make sure your cable modem can detect your LAN - did you implement MAC address filtering? set the LAN speed to be detectable by the cable modem, ie 10Mbps?
    1. The onboard LAN controller is enabled in BIOS
    2. Not sure how to go about doing this exactly.
    3. MAC address filtering is only enabled for wireless connections and it seems that the router is "seeing" the system. I have connected directly to the modem as well to no avail. I'm not sure how to set the LAN speed to be detectable to the cable modem.
"Check your network speed and try not to use Auto negotiation. Try setting it to 100Mbps full duplex, or 10Mbps full and see how it goes."
Where would I be able to adjust these settings exactly? Thanks for the help so far!

  • MOVED: Slow Boot-up on my 865 PE

This topic has been moved to Intel P4 & Celeron P4 based board.
Slow Boot-up on my 865 PE

one thing that used to effect my bootup time (this was the time it took for something to actually appear on-screen), was that i had one of the floppy controller bios settings enabled, without knowing.  I didnt/dont have a floppy drive installed, which seemed to confuse the bios as it tried looking for the floppy.  I only noticed after checkng round the back during these long waits, and seeing the diagnostic lights on the MSI bracket, displaying the error code for a faulty (or in this case missing) floppy drive.  I cant remember what it was i disabled, but it was ok after that.

  • P6n sli and e6700 3.2 ghz cpu problem

hello. my mobo is p6n sli (ms-7350 model).. i changed my old cpu(e4400) with new one(e6700 3.2 ghz). but i didnt get any visual from monitor. the thing is i checked mobo' s cpu support list and e6700 is there but it s an old model with 2.66 ghz. but mine is 3.2 ghz. what can i do now?

Quote from: Henry on 17-February-12, 08:52:44
Simple fact is the P6N SLI does not support the newer 45nm CPUs. The e6700 2.66 GHz is 65nm, the e6700 3.2 GHz is 45nm. There is nearly a 4 year difference between the 2 and technology moves on and leaves the old stuff behind. What's unfair about that?
Try and get your hands on a good P45 Platinum MB if you can find one. Much better than your NVIDIA chipset MB anyway.
    According to this: http://us.msi.com/product/mb/P6N-SLI.html#/?div=CPUSupport
some 45nm CPUs are supported such as e5200, e5300, and e5400
Simple update in CPU micro code would fix the problem

  • Wireless printer sharing with windows 7 and vista operating systems.

    hello can anyone help me?
i have a new HP pc with windows 7 OS, and have an epson PX710W 3in1 printer.
i want to connect a laptop with vista OS to share the printer (wireless set up).
the pc will print documents ok via wireless link, but when i power up the laptop it appears to inhibit the printing function (document will not print).
i have set up file/ print sharing but there is the problem. it appears to me that sharing is only possible between pc,s etc with windows 7 OS via the homegroup set up. Has  anyone encountered this problem at all, has anyone any ideas? or is it a configuration problem that i'm not aware of?

I found that I had issues with getting all of these to work - individually.  I have an XPPro (32) pc trying to print to Win7Ultimate printer - printer is shared with all settings wide open, works great with another 7 or Vista machine, but same errors
as above for XP.  I got it to work an old way, and then the "local port" way worked.  I don't really know why as yet, but I am investigating.
    My Solution -
    1. As stated in other posts, install the printer locally on the XP machine.  Make sure that it prints.
2. Connect the printer to the 7 machine, print a test, then change the file and print sharing options to "yes".  I also installed the "Universal Driver" for my printer - HP1200 Laserjet.
    3. Make sure that the Network type that the 7 machine sees is "Work" or "Home", not "Public". -  I don't know if this really  did anything or not, but I did make the change - mine thought the network was "Public".
    4. Go back to the XP machine, if you get errors when you add the "Local Port" as suggested, then do this -
    Warning Old Dos Trick -
         -  Open a Command Prompt, then type (without quotes) "net use Lpt1 \\COMPUTERNAME\PRINTERSHARE " - where "computername" is the name of the computer and sharename is the shared name of the printer
    on that computer.
        - you SHOULD see "command completed successfully", if not check to make sure that you have rights on the 7 machine.  Now you should be able to print a test page to the printer. CAUTION - it took awhile for the changes to
take, so you may have the hourglass looking at you for a few minutes. - Once you reboot this will not work as the connection is just for that session.
To explain: this command is the dos version of what happens when you re-route output to a different destination - thus any traffic to LPT1 goes to \\computername\sharename.
    5. After this worked, I then could add the "local port", as detailed earlier and had no errors.
    Hope this helps someone else!

  • Writing file with windows 7 and vista os..

    hi,
since i am using Windows XP operating system with Labview, i made a executable file and i trying to install with Windows 7 or Vista OS installed PC.
when my device is detect it will gives the hardware information , that have to save in to the hard disk, where i am usually putting near to my Application
program exe file. using XP will not be any problem its creates and writes the information file.
for the Vista and windows 7 OS has a adminstrative writes it wont allow to create and write a new file where near to application exe file.
is there any method has to set these file for administrative rights on Windows 7 and vista OS?
i am using Labview 8.6 version
    Regards,
    Balaji DP

You would need to log into the computer with an account that has administrative rights. Or, you could configure the application to run under the administrator account. Both of these are Windows operations.
Or, you could fix your code so it doesn't do that.

  • Satellite L450-171 - Dual boot with Windows 7 and Windows XP

    Hello all,
I bought a Satellite L450-171 with Windows 7 pre-install. For reasons of compatibility, I installed Windows xp on on another partitition of the computer.
But in the starting up, I do not see both operating systems. I see only Windows xp.
Please how could I make to have the option of run also the Windows 7?
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi
    > But in the starting up, I do not see both operating systems. I see only Windows xp.
This happened because the Win XP has overwritten the Win 7 boot manager.
The EasyBCD is great tool but you have to install this in Win 7.
But how to do this if you cannot boot into Win7???
Well, for this you will need an original Win 7 disk (not recovery disk).
You could boot up using Win 7 disk and this will repair the Win 7 boot manager.
Now you could boot into Win 7 and could install the EasyBCD.
Then start EasyBCD and insert the Win XP OS entry into Win 7 boot manager
After new restart the Win XP and Win 7 should appear in boot manger and you could switch between both OS.

  • Trouble with itunes upgrade and Vista

I upgraded to 8.0 last night. The upgrade seemed to go as normal, but all I have is a blank itunes icon on my desktop which doesn't work. I reinstalled and still the same thing. Any suggestions?

This happens to me every single time I upgrade iTunes since as far back as version 6.x I think and its happened on both Vista and XP PC's.
Every single time I upgrade it does something with the desktop and quick launch icons to where they get "blanked" out and are no longer valid. This forces me to re-copy the "Start Menu\Programs\iTunes" shortcuts (that are created by default with the installer) back to the desktop and quick launch every single time I upgrade.
Does anyone know why this happens? The iTunes installation is the only program Ive ever seen this issue with and its really gotten pretty annoying.
    Thanks a bunch!!

    According to this:
    http://global.msi.eu/index.php?func=prodcpu2&prod_no=1141&maincat_no=1&orderby=cpu_name%20ASC#menu
"Yorkfield" 45nm quadcores are not going to work on this board, only "wolfdale" 45nm dualcores and even that depends on revision, like Jack mentioned.
So your Q8200 is a no go unfortunatly.
Only the older 65nm "Conroe" quads will work.
