Moving anchor point using spacebar while drawing with pen?

If you're an Illustrator user, you may be familiar with the ability to move the active anchor point of the line, by holding "Spacebar" and dragging during the drawing process. This is a useful timesaver for creating complex paths. While Photoshop CS6 has introduced some useful new path-editing features, this is one that is still missing. I cant' figure out why Adobe does not make the pen tool identical between the two programs. This is an old feature in Illustrator. Don't the Adobe programmers talk to each other.
I'm just hoping/wishing someone could tell me the feature can be accessed in some other way, withing Photoshop.

Thanks, conroy. Yes, I'm familiar with that feature, but it requires clicking on the anchor point and dragging. The feature missing in PSD is the ability to move an associated anchor point while "holding" an associated direction point. This feature is activated, in AI, by holding down the Spacebar. It's a real timesaver and I miss it in PSD.

  • Anchor point used in drawImage() of  Graphics class

    Hi all,
    This is sourab.I need to know about the concepts of anchor point used in drawImage() of Graphics class.We all know in drawImage() method has four co-ordinates.First one is for Image name,second one is for x coordinate ,third one is for y coordinate and the final one is for anchor point.Actually anchor point will place the image in the corresponding position.Now my doubt is what is the purpose of x,y coordinates.
    Also i want some links to learn about this anchor point concepts.Can anyone provide solution to me ASAP.
    Regards/Thanks,
    Sourab

    We all know in drawImage() method has four co-ordinates. [coördinates?]http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/awt/Graphics.html
    Or 5 or 6 or 7 or 10 or 11. And if you include Graphics2D:

    There is second one taking 4 arguments, and one taking 3.

  • Moving anchor point with arrow keys crashes Photoshop CC

    Hey guys,
    I've recently run into this bug many times while working with shapes. Don't really know what initiates it but it's super annoying as it crashes the PS CC completely without possiblity of recovering the unsaved files.
    The bug appears while working with shapes after file is saved and reopened. Because I use to design pixel-perfect UIs, I work with arrow keys a lot to be sure every pixel is in the right place. So after selecting one or more anchor points of shape and hitting any arrow key (to move it by pixel), photoshop immediately crashes with this super-long description of bug: http://justpaste.it/ccshapecrash
    Dunno why but this occurs very often when handling 1px-thin rectangles.
    Is it only me or has anybody else experienced this as well? Any idea what exactly is causing it or what might be wrong with my config?
    Never seen that kind of error in Photoshop before. It completely destroys my everyday workflow

    I have exactly the same problem and I don't have any solution. I was tried to update the latest video drivers - nothing! Tried to update Photoshop which updates fixes bugs - nothing! The problem continues.
    My OS is Windows 8 64bit, video card Nvidia GT 630. For the case, my Photoshop 32x works better (faster) than the 64x. Why is that ? I hope to have a solution.

  • Moving Anchor Points in PSE 6.0 after lasso was used

    As a former user of Microsoft Image Composer, I am trying to make a smooth transition for my photo croppers to Photoshop Elements 6.0. Here is the problem that I cannot solve:
    In Image composer, I could use a Polygon tool to create a shape around a product (pants, for example). After making the shape, I could choose to "Move Points", which allowed me to adjust the points and refine the shap (lengthen one leg, adjust the width, etc). After the points were where I wanted, I would "Cut Out" the image. The end result is that some of the products (pants) are cut off to create the shape I want.
    In PSE I have used the lasso tool to create the shape, but am unable to move the points. It is not reasonable to start over- some shapes are so complex, that it would take a lot of time to re-do.
    How can I move anchor points? Should I use a tool other than lasso? Thanks for helping me make the switch to PSE!

    For the marching ants, it sounds like you are using the quick selection tool. You want the regular selection brush, which only works exactly under the brush and doesn't do any thinking on its own.
    The options bar settings for the Magnetic Lasso control it:
    Width: how far away to look for edges
    Edge Contrast: How much difference to look for between the edge and the background: A higher number = sharper contrast, lower number= softer contrast
    Frequency: How often to put down those anchor points

  • Direct selection - moving anchor points with keyboard arrow keys

    Hi,
    I am using Illustrator CC.  I just used the image trace tool to create a vector version of my company logo.  It worked pretty well, but I am now just trying to clean it up a bit.  I have a few anchor points that I just want to nudge up or down in the smallest increment possible.
    I think it would be easier for me to do this using the keyboard arrow keys rather than using the mouse, but the arrow keys cause my selected anchor point to jump by way too large of a distance.  I checked to make sure Smart Guides, Snap to Grid, and Snap to Point are all turned off.  I can't think of anything else to do.
    Can anyone tell me what controls how far the keyboard arrow keys will move an anchor point, and how I can set this to the smallest possible distance?
    Thanks in advance,
    Paul

    Under Preferences (Command-K on Mac), on the first screen there is Keyboard Increment. This is the amount the arrow keys will move selected content, such as anchor points.
    I usually keep this at "0.005 in", but when doing things that need extreme accuracy, I change it to "0.0002 in", which on my screen (2560 x 1600) is one pixel at AI's 6400% magnification.

  • CS5: Moving Anchor Points w/ Transform Panel, Not Whole Object

    Hey there. Did the digging before asking but nothing came up. I'm pretty green, so I'm sure it's something silly. I'm trying to move specific anchor points on a path a few pixels up from their current position, while keeping everything else where it is, so it'll transform the figure's shape. I'm trying to do it precise by changing it's dimensions, rather than clicking and dragging. Thankfully, that's at least an option because it -does- work when I direct select the points I want and drag them. Problems with that:
    1) I have very little control. If I want the point moved up by whole pixels, I pretty much have to get lucky because it's always in decimal points.
    2) With shapes bordering each other (parts of a complex shape), if I want to move their location to scrunch something (Half circle in a larger half circle, wanting to flatten out the base), if I lift those points up, they leave a gap. As if the top border of the outer circle has another anchor point under the lower of the one above that, and I can't click on it to move everything while they're still touching. I can take screenshots if needed. I'm following a tutorial to get used to the program.
    Alternately, I suppose if you have a shortcut for constraining the drag to whole pixels instead of fractions, that's great too. In Photoshop and the like, holding Shift would give me precision, but that's not the case in this tool or perhaps program.
    Thanks a bunch. This program is frustrating, but I know I'll have fun with it when I get it.

    Hard to decipher exactly what you are asking for, but after reading your post a few times sounds like you want to move vector point by whole pixles amounts.
    Have you tried setting your keyboard increment to 1 pixel, and using the cursor keys to nudge points.
    If you are working on digital work, you may want to turn on snap to pixel grid, which will also kepep all your times to whole pixel amounts.

  • CS5 moving anchor points

    Anybody else enormously frustrating when trying to reposition anchor points in CS5?  They never were very easy to select and move, but now in this version, they'll only move in certain directions but not others, or not at all.
    There seems to be some mysterious order required, where if I select the bezier points first adn then the central node, sometimes I can get the central node to move, but not always.  Or sometimes if I press the shift key while selecting, I can get them to move.  But not always.
    It looks to me like Adobe has made the points too smart, so that they'll only go where they won't interfere with a nearby node.  But I've got a lot of repositioning to do, and I sure wish this thing would trust me enough to let me move the nodes where I want to put them.
    Anybody have any suggestions?

    Something else I noticed, by the way: if I delete an anchor point, then undo, then Shift+click and try to move the anchor point, about 80% of the
    time, I can get it to move.
    But this is so frustrating, I'm going back to CS4 to make the shape I want.

  • Moving Anchor point in Basic 3D effect

    I need to use Premier's basic 3D effect (Swing in door), but with the anchor point on the left or the right (not default, in the middle), like the one in the transision (3D motion Swing in).
    Does anyone know what 3d package, or other source has it?
    Thank you in advance.
    James.

    Craig,
    Thank you for that. It is not quite the same though. To build a door looking effect, I would have to apply several other effects.
    I would prefer to find and existing effect with controls, etc.
    Do you know of those.
    Thanks.
    James.

  • Moving Anchor points

    I move the anchor points of a shape/path by using arrow keys on my keyboard. Points move 1 pixels , sometimes less than 1 and sometimes more than 1 pixels. It doesnt matter i zoomed in or out, it does the same. Somehow it is triggered by something but i cant figure it out. Does anyone know to set the movement amout to 1 pixel for all the times.
    I Use Flash CS4.
    PS: I dont press shift/ctrl/alt or anyother modifier keys. Only Arrows
    Thanks in advance.

  • Fixing paths after drawing with pen tool?

    Afer you draw a shape with the pen tool and you are not happy with the way you drag the curves and drew the path, do you do anything more with the pen tool at that point or do you later fix it with the Direct Selection tool to manipulate the anchor points to fix it?
    Thanks.

    Access to the direct selection tool works only when you clicked on it before choosing the pen tool
    If you select the direct select tool before you choose the pen tool it will be accessible by holding the command/control key but if you have the selection tool selected first and then of course it shows up you can in CS 4 and 5 also then hold the command/option Tab key to toggle the direct select and selection tools while still in the pen tool.

  • How to continue drawing with pen tool

    Hello,
    Let's say I begin tracing an image with the pen tool. Something comes up 1/2 through the trace job and I need to stop the trace. How do I later go back and begin the trace from my last point and continue on to the end. Right now, all I am getting is new anchor points and lines that do not join with the original trace. Thanks

    skeeter,
    I believe it may be time for the list, also for your other issue.
    The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Navigation back and forth between anchor points with "prev" and "next" buttons?

    Hi all,
    I am working on a horizontal layout site that has anchor points on each part. As the user scrolls, it snaps to each anchor point. It works fine with just the mouse wheel, but I'd like to have previous and next buttons that allow for easy navigation between the points. I know on each section I can have the buttons to jump from say A>B>C and then C>B>A, but this is a single "prev" and "next" set of buttons that are pinned to the page. So, as the page scrolls left to right, the buttons stay put. Is there a way to just have them go to the previous and next point in the line, rather than linking a button to anchor point A/B/C, etc?

    I'm not sure I'm making my question very clear. Your response doesn't address what I'm asking, unfortunately. I know how to make buttons that are linked to individual anchor points. But I'm trying to make buttons to link to the next anchor point, or a specific spot on the page. Think of how you would navigate on a horizontal page, that's what I'm looking to duplicate.

  • Extract anchor point coordiates?

    Hi,
    I'm pretty sure this question has been answered before, but the links have moved and I can't find it. So if anyone knows the answer please point me in the right direction.
    I would like to be able to extract a list of anchor point coordinates from a drawing.
    Say for example I have a star shape. I would like to know th x and y coordiantes of each anchor point on the star. I know I can hover with the direct selection tool, and this will give me the points, but say I have a image made up of 100 points, this isn't a good solution to have to write down all points separately. Is there a script I can run to extract these to a csv/txt file or just data written on the drawing?
    I've tried saving as SVG and then looking at the data contained, but it's not very easy to use as a coordinate log document.
    Also, although I'd just be happy to find out the coodinate location of anchor points, is there a way to find the handle dimensions of the cordinates?
    Many thanks for any ideas on this

    it can be scripted, here's a starting point
    select pathItems before running
    var idoc = app.activeDocument;
    var sel = idoc.selection;
    for (j=0; j<sel.length; j++) {
        var ipath = sel[j];
        var itext = idoc.textFrames.add();
        var pp = [];
        for (i=0; i<ipath.pathPoints.length; i++) {
            pp.push(ipath.pathPoints[i].anchor);
        itext.contents = pp.join ("\r");
        itext.left = ipath.left + ipath.width + 2;
        itext.top = ipath.top;
        pp = null;

  • Pen tool cursor is different from the anchor point

    Hi, I'm using flash cc 2014, I'm having this issue, which is when I use pen tool to draw something, the anchor is different from the pen cursor. I need help !

    Kyle
    as suggested but not quite defined what you want to do is after you have drawn a curve path with the pen tool you now want to add a straight segment, so you press down the option tool drag the end of the leading anchor handle while still holding down the option key and drag the handle into the anchor point. Nothing else will move but the anchor point handle.
    Once the handle is withdrawn into the anchor point you can now position the pen tool, first of course releasing the option key, and clicking and the segment will be a straight path unless of course you drag as you click.
    I agree it would be nice to have a keyboard toggle to allow for a straight segment.
    Perhaps there is but I do not know of it. It is a good complaint. I believe there are ways of accomplishing this in other applications.
    There is another way as well. Just hold the command key to get a select tool and click anywhere to deselect the path. Then click where you want the straight segment to end and the click the pen tool on the last anchor point of the segment you previously created.

  • Anchor points move and entire shape gets distorted from changing stroke thickness

    I have a fairly simple drawing that I drew at a larger size so I could be precise with it, and now I want to reduce it down to the finished size, and thicken the stroke, but when I make the stroke thicker, my anchor points move and the entire drawing gets distorted.
    In 24 years of using Adobe Illustrator, I've never seen this happen. When I click on the "up" arrow on the Stroke palette a bunch of times to incrementally increase the stroke thickness, I can watch the anchor points "walk" around as my shape gets distorted.
    If I instead enter a numerical value for the stroke thickness, this doesn't happen.
    However, if I use the Scale tool to shrink the drawing down to 10% or 20% size or whatever, with Scale Strokes and Effects UNCHECKED, again, the anchor points move and the drawing is distorted.
    This is all on a brand new installation of Illustrator CS 6 for Mac (though I've been using CS 6 for about 2 years now, my hardrive crashed this past weekend and I had to reinstall everything).
    Did I miss a little checkbox somewhere that I've never seen before that's making this happen?
    Editing this post to add:
    Also, some of the objects in my drawing will not allow me to change the stroke to less than 1 point thickness. If I choose .5 or .25 pt from the pop-up menu, or even if I enter the numerical value, it jumps back to 1 point. Other objects in the drawing do not.
    These objects in question are "rounded rectangle" shapes that I've used the scissor tool on to cut and then used the "join" command to put them together with parts of other shapes that were "scissored' as well.
    All of the "Ellipse" and "Rounded Rectangle" shapes that I left intact do not exhibit this problem with stroke and distortion.

    You are being bitten by the Align-to-Pixel-Grid. Select everything and go to the Transform panel and turn off Align-to-Pixel-Grid at the bottom of the panel; then go to the panel flyout (small triangle, upper right) and turn off Align Objects to Pixel Grid.
