Moving ARD license to new laptop

I just got a new Macbook Pro and transferred everything from my old laptop.
I want to transfer the license/serial number for ARD from my old laptop to the new one. Are there any special steps I need to take?
Ever since I did this transfer, ARD does not connect from my new laptop. I am working remotely to my network via VPN. This works fine, but ARD gets an authentication error when attempting to connect to any remotes machines from the new laptop.
But it still works fine on the old laptop. Any ideas?

You have to reauthenticate to each computer in your ARD lists.

i deactived cs6 standard from my old laptop but cannot use the license on my new laptop. I had windows vista on the old laptop and 8 on the new. It says that the serial number is invalid. Any help?

Yes. Uninstall Lightroom on your old machine and Install Lightroom on the new laptop.
Uninstalling won't delete your catalog files.
Then copy your catalog files (.lrcat, .lrdata) to your new laptop.
By default the files are located in a folder called Lightroom in your Pictures Folder.

Moving itune to the new laptop !! but where is all my apps

Hi, we got new laptop (windows 7), so my husband did manage to sort out how to transfer our music from our old laptop itune to the new one but i'm sure how to transfer all the apps as yet. We got ipad and 2 iphones.. so there are lots of apps there to transfer. We're on minimum usage internet plan.. so what is the best way to transfer our apps to our new laptop without wasteing our internet usage. Thanks

Does anybody know if there is a way to sync the apps that retains the folder structure? I have a new computer (the old one is totally dead)and want to sync it with my iPhone. I've used the "transfer purchases from iPhone" command but as far as I can see, that has just transferred the apps. If I want the folders back I'm going to have to do that manually, which would be a pain since I have about 150 apps to shift about.

Moving L3 to a new laptop

Hi.. i would like to know if it is possible to move my copy of L3 from my old laptop to my new laptop, and how. I also hv a copy of it already in my desktop. Any help is appreciated. Tks!

You should be able to get your music back, but probably not the playlists.
What I have done is taken a screenshot of the playlist I want to keep, save it (or print it off), and then find the songs in the new library/computer and drag them to the new playlist.

Moving LR4 License to New Computer

I installed LR4 on my computer a few days ago. Unfortunatly I am having hardware problems (unrelated to LR) with that computer and would like to move my LR4 license to a new computer. I haven't really done much except play with LR so i don't really need to save anything. I have licensed the install but I have not registered yet. Is there some way to uninstall so I can use the license on a different computer?

Lr doesn't use activation and regeistration doesn't impose any physical restriction on the number of installs. Therefore, you don't need to deactivate or deinstall the current version. Just install on the other computer then insert serial number.
Note tthat the EULA allows installation on two computers, but only running on one.

Finding Serial Number after migration to new laptop

I have finally (and emotionally) retired my beloved G4 Powerbook for one of these new fangled MacBooks - very nice as I expected. To do this I used the migration tool as I always do and everything appeared hunky dory and exactly as it should be......until I fired up ARD. It is now prompting me for the serial number - this would of course be easy to get hold of if I had kept the box when I installed it about two years ago - however I didn't - my bad. I still have the Powerbook (luckily as I am a network administrator and kinda need ARD!) and was wondering of there was any way that anyone knew of to get the old serial number out of it so I can finally, properly retire her and run ARD on my new laptop. Any help gratefully appreciated !

Templeton is correct; there's no way to read the serial number off your existing computer since ARD keeps the number in an encrypted form. You might be able to get it to work by copying the com.apple.RemoteDesktop.plist file in Library/Preferences to the same location on your new computer, but I haven't tried it so I'm not sure it will work. If not, the serial would have been on a small card that came in the package, so you'll need to find that. If you can't, you can try calling Apple and see if there's anything they can do for you, but it's doubtful.

2-3 old ipod touch is no longer syncing to itunes library, which was recently moved to new laptop.

Recently moved my library of music, audiobooks, and podcasts to new laptop with Windows 8, at which time I upgraded my itunes software as well. My 2-3 year old ipod touch is no longer syncing properly. Audiobooks and podcasts are fine (after much effort), but all of two songs out of an extensive music library are the only ones syncing. I see them in my library on the new computer and have managed to sync them to my iphone 5 as well. Ipod touch appears to have ample file storage space left. What gives? Is the i-pod touch already useless with the latest Itunes software? Operator error? Hardware problem? I don't know what to think. Have been using ipods for years without this issue.

I have an old laptop running WinXP Home SP3 with iTunes 10.2x installed. I sync my old iPod Classic120GB and a newer iPod Touch 2nd Gen 8GB. I recently bought a new laptop with Windows 7 Pro. I am moving everything to the new one. I did not have a problem with the old iPod. But when I tried to sync the Touch it just freezes while trying to backup the existing contents. I have read a few support docs and have tried some of them where I have to tweak some of Window's Admin tools. I have also uninstallled and installed iTunes. There are so many things to try in the troubleshooting steps that I can't really figure out which is which. I also can't backup the contents of my current iPod Touch by attaching the device and right-clicking on it. The Backup context menu just isn't there.
I currently have iTunes v10.3x and I need some "serious" help. :-) I did the Run Diagnostic with the device attached. I looked at the report and saw something that might be the cause. I am running iTunes not as the administrator. But if I try to run it as an admin, the Library is now different and I'm just "scared" to screw things up some more.

The sync is one way - computer to ipod.

I don't see anything in Help that shows when you already have transfered all the files over. Why would it want to erase and sync when I already have all the music folder copied over? I didn't have an issue when I had another technician copy from one laptop to another. Home sharing is also on but not being recognized.

I suspect you only migrated the media folder instead of the complete working library. Either review the transfer process and copy over the entire iTunes folder from your old profile's music folder or see Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

HT1349 I have recently moved home from the UK to the Cayman Islands, my PC in the UK has been destroyed as it was 240v but my ipod will now not sync with itunes on my new laptop can anybody help as my ipod holds all my music files

Now with a little more space, I believe this to be a simple fix just not for me! I have recently moved from the UK to the Cayman Islands and there lies the problem, 'voltage' ....
My UK PC was 240v and has now been destroyed so when I secured a new laptop 110v and downloaded itunes I was told by 'itunes' as my ipod was linked to another PC it would not/could not sync to my ipod. As the ipod holds ALL my music files this is a major drag. Can anybody tell me how to unassociate my ipod with my old PC so I can sync with my new laptop.

All computers sold in the past 10 years are univeral insofar as voltage is concerned, so it may have been destroyed but not because of voltage. The right thing to do is to restore the backup that you must have made of your old PC to your new laptop. Then you will not lose anything when you sync the phone.

Moved library to new laptop, but it didn't take all playlists and apps

I got a new laptop recently and have been trying to phase out my old desktop. I followed the instructions for moving/importing your library. Things were made a bit simpler (I think) because my library was held on an external HD that I now have connected to teh laptop so there wasn't a lot of file moving involved. The trick now is that I open iTunes and it lists all of my playlists, but only the smart playlists still have all the associated songs. The "regular" playlists are all empty and the main window instructs me to add music by dragging it to the playlist, etc.. Also, when I connect my iPhone and attempt to sync, I can see that a large portion of the apps currently on my phone do not appear on iTunes. I get a message warning me that syncing will erase and overwrite what's currently on my phone so I've avoided syncing for several weeks now.
I still have my original desktop with iTunes installed and I only need to connect the original external drive to get back to where I was before the move. I haven't deleted anything so I could try it all again, but I would imagine the same results. Is there something I've missed? I tried asking at the apple store and was told the only solution was to create all of my playlists again "by hand" and then contact itunes to see if they would "allow" me to get credit for all the missing apps and then purchase them again from the store. There has to be another way.

When you copied the music from your old computer you should have included the iTunes database (iTunes Library.itl) as well as your media files - this is the structure (normally in C:\Users\username\Music) that you should copy from old to new:
If you only copied the media, and not the database file, try doing so now (without iTunes running) - the files and folder structures should be the same on your new PC as on your old one.
Then hold down SHIFT while starting iTunes; you'll get this prompt:
Click on Choose Library..., then browse to and select the iTunes Library.itl file that you just copied. Your library should now be in the state that it was on your old machine, including your playlists.
