Moving Bookmarks toolbar to very top in Firefox 4

I want to move the bookmarks toolbar to the very top of the browser window.
For instance, when the Menu Toolbar is enabled, I would like this result:
[http://i55.tinypic.com/309ua0m.jpg http://i55.tinypic.com/309ua0m.jpg]
When the Menu Toolbar is dis-abled, I would like this result:
[http://i52.tinypic.com/k2obpj.jpg http://i52.tinypic.com/k2obpj.jpg]
I have not been able to find anything that accomplishes this. The current way is a waste of real estate.

# Right click on your title bar and select Customize...
# Your Bookmarks Toolbar should appear. Left click and drag Bookmarks Toolbar Items either to the left or to the right of your tabs bar.
# Select Done
*Notes:
You may have to adjust your icons such as New Tab as it may be be moved to a different spot if not placed properly. You can adjust them back to where they were by default or wherever you want them by going back to Customize...

  • How do I show the bookmarks toolbar while in fullscreen on Firefox 20? In older versions you could edit the userChrome.css file. Does that still exist?

    After searching for this option, it appears it was very easy to do in older versions of firefox on windows 7. Many posts say you can edit the userChrome.css file to add:
    #PersonalToolbar[moz-collapsed="true"] {
    visibility: visible !important;
    However, on 2 machines with firefox 20, I've searched for that file and cannot find it. Does it even exist any more? if not, how can I set firefox to go to fullscreen mode and continue to show the bookmarks toolbar? Unchecking hide toolbars does not work for the bookmarks toolbar.

    userChrome.css does not exist by default. You can create it; it's an ordinary text file. Note that you do need a namespace at the beginning of the file.
    You could try this:
    @namespace url(http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul);
    #PersonalToolbar[moz-collapsed="true"]{
    visibility: visible !important;
    #navigator-toolbox[inFullscreen="true"]{
    margin-top:-62px !important;
    I added the second rule to prevents the toolbar area from rolling all the way up. The specific value may need to be adjusted by a few pixels depending on your toolbar heights.

  • Bookmarks.html Renders Very Differently in FireFox 4

    For years, I have been using and loving Firefox (including 4.0).
    For years, I have also exported my bookmarks out of Firefox and use the resulting bookmarks.html file as my home page.
    Now Firefox 4 renders the bookmarks.html file very differently from previous versions of Firefox and also differently from other browsers (eg, IE).
    The indentations have disappeared when viewing bookmarks.html in Firefox 4. Unfortunately, it's not really easy to show you this inside this forum text box, but I will try.
    Firefox 4 shows something like this:
    '''Bookmarks Menu'''
    '''General Interest'''
    Markham Weather Forecast - Environment Canada
    The Weather Network - Markham
    The Weather Channel - Markham
    AccuWeather.com - Canadian Forecast Center
    ... etc
    Firefox 3.6, IE, and other browsers show something like this (note the indentations which greatly improve readability):
    '''Bookmarks Menu'''
    '''General Interest'''
    Markham Weather Forecast - Environment Canada
    The Weather Network - Markham
    The Weather Channel - Markham
    AccuWeather.com - Canadian Forecast Center
    ... etc
    Is this a bug in Firefox 4?? I would really like to see bookmarks.html rendered with the indentations.
    Am I missing something?
    Thanks.

    '''Cor-el''' - is there a way that can be added to the bookmarks.html file, instead of having to click on a bookmarklet each time the page is opened?

  • I cannot customize Bookmarks Toolbar (Mac OS 10.x, Firefox 10.x) so that only the icons show.

    At some point when I upgraded Firefox (probably to 10.x) I lost the ability to customize the Bookmarks Toolbar so that only the icons appear on the toolbar. I can customize to show text only, text and icons, but not icons only.

    Hi H2OVixen,
    Can you please describe how you are applying the update? What is strange is that the profiles and bookmarks are still there after the update.
    If you are updating Firefox it would automatically import the profile that it has. However, if there are multiple profiles on the machine, it will pull the default profile. What may be interesting to see if is the profile manager still has all the profiles after the update, as it should ideally.[[Using Multiple Profiles]] Though you did mention that this does not happen to local libraries. I think this may be the issue you are really describing: NAS profiles are not seen after an update, is this correct?
    Is it possible to see the profile on the NAS after the update if you open the Profile Manager on launch?
    Cheers

  • In upgrate 22 and 23.0 the bookmarks toolbar dissapears and after crashing firefox does not allow for recovery

    I hate this new upgrade. I basically can't use this browser anymore. I only need firefox to do a few things correctly but if it cannot do these things I cannot use it<br />
    1. If firefox crashes (which it does every 30 minutes it just closes completely) then I need for it to be able to restore / recover all previously opened windows when I start it back up again. It does not do this anymore.<br />
    2. I use the bookmarks toolbar all the time but frequently it shows up completely blank. So now the only way I can see the bookmarks is if I go to options and deselect bookmarks toolbar and then reselect bookmarks toolbar.
    This is so frustrating and worse you make it so you cant do rollbacks! That is insulting and makes me want to not use your browser. A browser is a critical tool not a toy but you guys won't stop playing with it.

    Hi joshuad31,
    Sorry you are having problems. It should not be crashing and should not be messing up your bookmarks. I do not have any such problems.
    *If Firefox is actually crashing, as opposed to hanging then a couple of the Crash IDs would help.
    ** see [[Firefox crashes - Troubleshoot, prevent and get help fixing crashes]]
    * if firefox has been frequently hanging and restarting offering the option to restore sessions then that has probably overloaded the session restore and you will need to delete the multiple copies of files.
    ** see [[Firefox hangs or is not responding - How to fix#w_delete-duplicated-session-restore-files]]'''_delete-duplicated-session-restore-files'''
    ** you will loose information doing that, normally I would suggest bookmarking the open tabs, but I am not sure that would work for you.
    To get Firefox running again you may initially need to use Firefox's safemode and disable all your plugins. Or do a reset.

    *[[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] (Read the warnings before you try this)
    I note you have VMware, scripting software and an enterprise edition extension. Is this machine used in an enterprise / corporate environment ?
    I will deal with the bookmarks toolbar issue later, crashing/hanging is a higher priority.

  • Installed a newer version of firefox, now all bookmarks, toolbars etc gone - cannot restart firefox - help!

    not sure what details you want here - seems that Firefox is running in safe mode and I can find noway to restart it. viewed some restart download shortcuts and says they are not applicable to the new version.

    You should have done a backup of your bookmarks, first.
    Depending upon how old a version of Firefox you were using before, you should search your hard drive for a file named '''places.sqlite''' which is the file where Firefox stores bookmarks in modern versions - Firefox 3.0 and later.

  • How can I restore "most visited" to bookmarks toolbar on firefox 5.0 ?

    I deleted it to tidy up tool bar , but another user has asked for me to put it back

    Hi Georgina,
    A newer version of Firefox will not bring back what you purposely deleted.
    But if you are not displaying the Bookmarks Toolbar then you might want to display it because that is where the original is/was. (see additional comment at bottom)
    '''First create a bookmark:''' and let's make it for 12 instead of 10
    :Right click on your bookmarks toolbar, "Create a new bookmark". Use copy and paste to populate your bookmark from the following:
    '''Name: &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;''' Most visited (12)
    :'''Location: &nbsp;''' place:sort=8&redirectsMode=2&maxResults=12
    Use the "Add" at the bottom to create the bookmark, no peeking at the location, you won't see it.
    Exit Firefox with "'''Alt+F'''" then Exit (don't use the "X" in upper right corner)
    Left click on your what is now your "Smart Folder", and you should see the 12 most visited from your '''history '''-- nothing to do with bookmarks that you also have.
    If you right-click on the "Smart Folder" you won't still won't see the location, unless you have an extension or a style to show everything. -- [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/user/52 David McRitchie]
    If you are not displaying the Bookmarks Toolbar then you can display it with "Alt+V" to bring up the View menu then "T" for Toolbars, click to show checkmark next to the Bookmarks Toolbar.
    You can make Firefox '''Firefox 5.0''' look like Firefox 3.6.19, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 5.0, or 4.0.1, look like 3.6)]. • Is there a short/hotkey to show/hide bookmark toolbar?

    I would like to have in options>bookmark toolbar unchecked, and a hot key or shortcut key to show or hide the bookmark toolbar.
    Having it checked takes room, and the autohide mouse hover addons get annoying when your going type in the URL bar and not use the bookmarks.
    Is there a hotkey for this.
    Thank you in advance.

    ''Is there a short/hotkey to show/hide bookmark toolbar?''
    There is no keyboard shortcut for the bookmarks toolbar.
    "Alt" will display the Menu Bar
    "Ctrl+/" toggles the add-on bar
    "Ctrl+K" displays Search bar because that is its entry area.
    "Ctrl+L" displays Location bar because that is its entry area.
    But there are alternatives, and you could set up zombie mode with the "Auto Hide" extension, so that the that is the only toolbar hidden or not hidden, though I wouldn't do that.
    You can use F11 to toggle Full Screen mode, which hides title bar and toolbars.
    On Windows you can use '''AutoHide -- http://www.krickelkrackel.de/autohide'''
    which provides a Full Window mode("zombie mode") with "Shift+F11" similar to full screen but within the confines of the window that allows you to just show the title bar, with options I use with it always show the tabs bar and addons bar in Full Screen or Full Window mode.
    In Full Screen or Full Window mode you can move the cursor to the top and see toolbars, use F10 or Alt to see menu bar, use Ctrl+K to see search bar, use Ctrl+L to see Location Bar. To see bookmarks bar you would need to show all toolbar toggle F10 or toggle F11.
    My bookmarks toolbar takes very little space less vertical space than shown in this [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/icons/fx4toolbars.png before/after] picture, see items 61-66 on styling in the following:
    You can make '''Firefox 6.0''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 6.0, look like 3.6)]. • The typeface of my bookmarks on the left hand side and bookmarks toolbar is too small. Can I enlarge it please.

    On the left hand side I have all my bookmarks and bookmark toolbar across the top. The typeface is very small. Can I enlarge it please.

    You only see that Bookmarks Menu button with the drop marker on the Bookmarks Toolbar if the Menu bar is hidden.<br />
    Otherwise you can use the Bookmarks menu to access that list.

  • How do I get my 8 most-used bookmarks to show on the bookmark toolbar in version 29?

    I was automatically upgraded to Version 29. I have always used the bookmark toolbar to keep my 8 most-used bookmarks one click away. I can't figure out how to do that any more.
    There are other changes that I dislike, and the classic theme restorer add-on was able to take care of the. But this one item is a deal breaker for me. Fortunately, I found and downloaded version 28 today. If I can't get this issue resolved, I will step back for now.
    Not all of us have Windows 8 and touch screens!!!!!!!!!!!!

    What is the problem, exactly? Is the Bookmarks Toolbar not displayed? Simply right-click an empty area of the tab bar and make sure "Bookmarks Toolbar" is checked.

  • I can not pin bookmarks to 2 new toolbars that I created & it will not show those toolbars in the toolbar menu, how can I get these to show up in the toolbar menu to allow me to pin bookmarks to them it is only showing the bookmark toolbar its full.

    I have tried to drag and drop the bkmks to the TB and it will not allow that either. Neither show up in the menu when I am adding a bkmk.

    See Multirow Bookmarks Toolbar: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/6937
    You can't place bookmarks on a new toolbar. You can only place a bookmark on the toolbar that has the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" on it.

  • How do I get rid of the bookmarks toolbar?

    I don't use the Firefox toolbar so would I rather have it gone from my screen and have more screen room. Thank you in advance for your answer.

    Right-click a blank section of the Tab bar and de-select Bookmarks Toolbar. Or use the Firefox button > Options.

  • Old favicons being shown on bookmarks toolbar after a new one on website is updated

    This question was archived 2 years ago but none of the replies answered the question.
    I have the same problem.
    (1) I placed a favicon.ico on my website and it eventually was correctly displayed both in tabs and the bookmarks tool bar
    (2) I didn't like how it looked and so created a new favicon.ico which I downloaded to my website.
    (3) Tabs are now correctly showing the new favicon
    (4) The bookmarks tool bar is showing the old favicon.
    Nothing that I have tried changes the bm toolbar favicon. What I have tried are
    (a) Restarting Firefox (running on Windows XP)
    (b) Installing the extension FaviconReloader
    What else can I do to get Firefox to display the new favicon on the bookmarks toolbar?
