Moving iPod Library between computers
Just bought a new Dell notebook computer. I've a large library of tunes on my old computer. Is there a way to copy this library to the new computer? If so, how?
Thanks,
Dan

I am unable to drage songs from a shared music library between computers. This used to work perfectly until a month ago. I have installed the newest version of Itunes on both computers and have rebooted them, but nothing happens when I try to drag a song to another playlist or another shared folder. Any ideas how to fix this?
Have you:

We have something similar with 2 computers at home, and use 'iTunes Library Updater' (freeware on http://itlu.ownz.ch/wordpress/) which should serve your purpose.

Moving Motion Projects Between Computers
My apologies, as I'm sure this must have been answered elsewhere - however I can't find the answer, so:
I'm moving a Motion project between two computers (Project file & media ) - I can do this easily with Final Cut Projects (you just relink the files) however - even when I "relink" the files in my Motion project - my timeline remains empty (unlike FCP, which will show the files):
What's the best technique to move Motion files between computers?
Thanks In AdvanceGood tip actually - but sadly, it isn't working that way!
I don't get it - could there be anything I'm doing wrong in the transfer/copy procedure? Is there some way I can change the mapping/references in the preferences from absolute to relative to the files?
Thanks in advance

Moving Collection Info Between Computers
Is there a way to copy collection information between computers (OSX)? For example, if I create a collection on my laptop can I transfer this "list" to my office computer (where all the original files of which the collection is a subset get transferred)or is it necessary to recreate the collection?
ThanksYou can copy the entire library file to the other computer along with the image files. If you have the same folder tree structure on both machines it should be seamless unless they have different root directories in which case you'll have to relocate an image for LR to find the rest.
The other way is to wait for the Adobe folks to put a binders-like functionality back into LR after it was lost between LR B4 and LR V1. -

Moving ipod library to 3 computers
I have 3 minis using the same computer and now I need to separate them to their own computer. I know I can move the music to a new computer but does this take the music out of the original computer? If so, how can I set up these 3 ipods to their own computer and have them keep their music? The original computer will not be needed. Each ipod uses the same account and has the same music on them.
Now, when I copy to the ipod ,is the music still on the original computer?
When you make a copy of something (anything), the original stays unless you delete it.
when I copy to the ipod
Am i actually removing the files to the ipod or just copying them to it?
As you wrote, you are copying.
Are these computers networked?
If you do this, you can leave the iTunes library in one place and simply allow iTunes to connect to this main library.
This would be much easier to maintain. -

Moving Mac mail between computers
Hi!
As I am considering switching from Entourage to Mac OSX Mail, I'm pondering this question: is it easy to move the e-mail archive from one machine to the other? In Entourage it all sits in Microsoft User Data/Office 2008 Identities. Where does it all sit in OSX? Info would be appreciated... Thanks!
RadTony,
Haha! Thanks!
Now, since you seem to know this stuff, more help needed...
I created my elaborate mail setup on my MacPro, all tweaked and working (I confess: 14 different IMAP email accounts spread between 3 domains on my server. I just like things a precisely certain way, and emails to land in proper mailboxes).
I was ready to move all this to its proper destination, which is my MacBook Pro laptop - so I copied the contents of Users/Rad/Library/Mail/.. to the same folder on the laptop, rebooted everything, and... to make a story short, that whole setup DID NOT transfer. There is some chaotic structure with some bits and pieces, but definitely not a clean transfer.
Then I tried archiving mailboxes and importing them on the laptop, but in that case none of the actual IMAP account settings transferred to the Mail app.
So - any ideas on how to just move the whole mail setup cleanly from one machine to the other? Or it is not possible, and I will have to manually retype all the account settings again?
Your help graciously appreciated again! I will post this separately on the forum too...
Best,

Moved iPhoto Library between Accounts. Oh Crap...
I moved my iPhoto Library from iPhoto '08 from one account to another (on the same Mac), but now the Library file on the new account is blank and unrecognisable by iPhoto. HELP!!!!!
Kim:
Try the following:
Run iRepair on your iPhoto LIbrary package as follows:
1 - download iRepair and launch.
2 - click on the lock and enter your admin password
3 - click on the Select button and navigate to and select the iPhoto library.
5 - set the owner to your short admin name with read, write and execute privileges.
6 - set group to staff or the current group with read, write and execute privileges
7 - set others to read only
6 - click on the Apply button.
See if this will correct the problem.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Need help moving iPod library to new Mac Mini
The bad news is that my 4 year old Mirror Door Dual Processor PowerMacG4 finally gave up the ghost on me. The good news is that I then went out and bought a shinny new Mac Mini. Thinking it would be easy (what was I thinking) I then attached my iPod 2Gen 15GB to my new iTunes and it promptly wiped it clean for me (read as PANIC, as I have literally thousands of dollars invested in iTunes music). Not to be a snob, but I also own a iPod Mini (4 GB) that also had a copy of the library on it.
HOW do I copy the library to my new Mac?? I also have a Mac Powerbook 12" and it has a dated copy of the library on it...
Is there ANYTHING that is easy with these Mac's??

Moving some photos between computers
I have a iMac and a Macbook Air. The iMac has my main iPhoto library. However there are lots of photos on my MacBook also.
I now want to copy all the photos from the Macbook to the iMac. 90% of them are probably on the iMac already, so those I don't need to copy. Is there a way to move everything from one computer to the other, and have it give me the option of not importing those photos that are already on the iMac (as it does when i import from my camera)?
My MacBook is out of space which is why I want to move everything, then delete them from the MacBook. But I don't want double copies of hundreds of photos.
Thanks!!!
DanIs there a way to move everything from one computer to the other, and have it give me the option of not importing those photos that are already on the iMac (as it does when i import from my camera)?
If you import image files to iPhoto 9.5.1 using the command "File > Import to Library", iPhoto will prompt you if you want to import a photo, that is already in your library, but only, if the photos are exact duplicates. You can then select to apply your preference to all duplicates.
So, if you export from your library on the MacBook Air to a folder and transfer this folder to your iMac, you will be able to avoid duplicates. It will however only work, if you export the originals and not if you export the edited version. The edited versions will not be duplicates. -
Problem moving iTunes library between users on MacBook Pro / OS Lion
Hey guys, I can't figure this one out. I bought a new MacBook Pro, and since I didn't have the firewire cable, I just made my account on the new one. I got the firewire cable, and used migration assistant to transfer my old MacBook Pro over (photos, music, documents, etc...)
Now I have two accounts - my primary one "Matt Dustin" and my old one "Old Macbook." When logged into my primary, I can access all my songs, but they show up under shared, and not when I click Library at the top of my iTunes source list. How do I move them over? I tried placing my old library in a shared folder and important that, but it doesn't work.
I just want to delete account "Old Macbook" since I already transferred my old Macbook and have everything under "Matt Dustin", I just can't make my old iTunes library my primary one on the new account. Any help? I'll try to attach a screenshot of where the music currently is. You can see from the pics where it is, I want it on the top "Library", not "Shared."Welcome to Apple Support Communities
There is a folder in /Users directory named "Shared" which can be opened by all users and where you can put your iTunes library to be shared among different users. Another option would be to use an external drive.
You only have to copy the iTunes library to that folder. In order to access there, open a Finder window, select the Go menu -> Go to Folder, and type:
/Users/Shared
After doing this, open iTunes while holding down the Alt key, and point iTunes to the library saved in that folder. Finally, open iTunes, go to iTunes menu (in the menu bar) -> Preferences -> Advanced, and choose the iTunes Media folder in the Shared folder. Do this in all your users.
Both roaringgnome's and Niel's answer (which is the same as this one) are valid. Just use the one you want to :-) -
What will happen? Moving photos/LR between computers.
I've been abroad in Spain with my laptop for half a year, and i started using LR after i came here.
I love it, except that it's a bit slow.
I have my pictures on an external USB disk and have LR installed here on my laptop.
Anyway, i'm going home in a couple of weeks, and i'm going to buy a new desktop computer to do image processing on, won't do that on my laptop again unless i'm going for a long vacation.
I assume i won't have a problem installing lightroom on my desktop computer(i realize that i only have one permit right? so i'll have to uninstall from my laptop i guess).
But how do i actually move my entire library of photos?
They are right now in something like
Z:\Bjarni\Archives\EOS\yyyy-mm-dd
But will most likely be in something completly diffrent on my new computer, except that the EOS\yyyy-mm-dd will remain the same...
So, does lightroom store absoloute locations? or relative?
What would be the best way to go about doing this?>So i'm guessing that if i just copy this folder over to my new computer all should be good?
Yes, copy the
Folder containing the
Lightroom Database.lrdb and
Lightroom Previews.lrdata file/folder to your new computer.
You can then connect the portable USB drive to your new computer, copy the image files across or just leave them on the portable drive. Either way, when Lightroom is launched the thumbnails will very likely appear with a
? symbol on the top right corner and the folder names will appear in red. This symbol is used to alert you to fact that Lightroom can no longer find the files. If this happens follow the guidance provided
Here
If space permits I would recommend copying the image files across to your internal disk drive, but it's not absolutely necessary.
Hopefully you find the tutorial useful -
Moving a library between itunes on vista and itunes on mac and back often
hi there,
I have a macbook pro at home but use a PC at work. I currently have my library on an external hard drive which i cart back and from from work to home. I am running itunes 9 on both platforms and the library is accessed by both versions of itunes. The problem I have is that each time i open itunes on a mac after using itunes on the pc it has to update my library which takes ages (and vice versa too but its slower on the pc to mac transition than the other way around). Does any of you have an idea on how to avoid this please?the itunes library is in one directory
Do you mean the \iTunes\ folder which contains the iTunes library.itl file, the iTunes library.xml file, the \Album Artwork\ folder, \Previous iTunes libraries\ folder and a few others?
There is no \iTunes library\ folder.
Do you have the same version of iTunes (9.0 or 9.0.1) on both machines?
Do you plug in the drive, hold Shift, launch iTunes then select *Choose library* and select the iTunes library.itl file in the iTunes folder on the external?
