Moving Primary site to new datacenter, can secondaries be migrated?

We are currently running SCCM 2012 sp1 CU3.
Our Primary site server and SQL cluster reside in our datacenter, and we have about 50 secondary sites at plants around the globe (we have secondaries because we need to throttle upward-flowing traffic, this was a design requirement).
We are preparing to build a new datacenter and NOT move any of the servers from the old one.
The plan is to build new servers in the new datacenter, then migrate all the plant sites.
I am planning to handle this as a side-by-side migration; I will build a new Primary site and database cluster, set the existing primary as a source hierarchy to migrate packages, task sequences etc…
then migrate each of the plant secondaries and reassign clients.
I don't believe that it's possible to reassign a secondary site from one primary to another, so I think that I will need build all my plant secondaries from the new Primary site.
Is that correct?

That is correct, you can't move or migrate a secondary site from one primary site to another.

  • Moving itunes to a new pc, can somebody please give me the simple?

just purchased a new laptop, went from XP to 7. I have read multiple postings and am comp literate, but I cannot get anything I purchased from itunes over to the new laptop. The titles, art and info go over, but I keep getting "original not found...." when I try to play the song. I can't be the first to go thru this, so if someone can give me the simple explanation I am missing it would be much appreciated.

I am an iTunes novice myself so I won't be able to help you fully but I do know that somewhere in the iTunes app there is an option for you to "authorise" your notebook as a second valid access point to your account. You can still only sync from one computer or so I am told and I am not sure how to go about executing a complete move but I suspect loading iTunes onto the notebook and authorising the notebook might be a good place to start. I think I would then use a stick to copy all the itunes files over to the new machine just to make sure they are both the same. Take a look at the old machine to see how the directory structure and file placement system is laid out and mimic that. You may need to "import" the new directory (folder) even still. Perhaps then you would "de-authorize" the other machine but I'm not sure. I'm sure someone will have better info on the second half of the operation.

  • Moved my IMac to new location -- can receive, but can't send mail out!!

Help, help!! You guys, I'm pretty doggone mac literate ... and I am completely frustrated over this. I took my beautiful iMac to my new office from my home. At home, mail sent and received beautifully on a wireless roadrunner network. At work, I am globbing on to the office's wireless network, which I am told, is sbc.global.net. I have put in the smtp for that for the outgoing messages, the darn thing will not send messages out no matter what smtp outgoing server I select. Interestingly, however, I AM able to send a message to myself -- from roadrunner to roadrunner. I called the roadrunner people, and their suggestions that I use the sbc.global.net as the outgoing server did not work. This problem is really messing up my business ... can you please help?? Many thanks.

Who provides your internet service at your new office? Check with them for outgoing mail service. Generally your best option is your ISP for outgoing service Road runner probably will not accept remote mail (only from people who are connected to their network)

How can I access files that I moved from an older MacBook Pro to a newer one via Firewire and Migration assistant?  The files show up on the new MacBook but cannot be opened.  Thanks!

Get info then check permissions then add your curent user name (it was probably different on old Mac) and give your username full read/write permissions.

  • Need assistance moving images to a new hard drive. can you help?

    1. My images are stored on an Apple Airport drive, connected wirelessly.
    2. I have moved them to a new USB connected External HD.
3 should I also copy the IRDATA and IRCAT Lightroom directory to the new drive before I synch the new directory within lightroom?

    Lightroom catalog FAQ
how do I move a catalog?
You can move your catalog to a different location on your computer's hard drive, to an external disk, or to another computer altogether. Simply use the Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac OS) to drag or copy the following files to the new location:
    Catalog: [catalog name].lrcat
    Previews: [catalog name] Previews.lrdata
Smart Previews (Lightroom 5 only): [catalog name] Smart Previews.lrdata
Notice that you're not moving any photos, nor are you moving the Lightroom application itself. If Lightroom can't find the catalog or your photos after you move a catalog, see Lightroom can't find my catalog. How do I find it? Or, My catalog can't find my photos. How do I find them?
To transfer a catalog between a Windows computer and a Mac, copy your catalog, preview, and image files from the original computer onto a flash or other external drive. Then, attach that drive to the second computer and copy the files to the desired location on the second computer.
For a video on how to move a catalog between two computers, watch Julieanne Kost's How to migrate Lightroom to another computer on Adobe TV.

  • Can we assign 2 IPs for a SCCM 2012 primary site server and use 1 IP for communicating with its 2 DPs and 2nd one for communicating with its upper hierarchy CAS which is in a different .Domain

    Hi,
Can we assign 2 IPs for a SCCM 2012 primary site server and use 1 Ip for communicating with its 2 DPs and 2nd one for communicating with its upper hierarchy CAS . ?
Scenario: We are building 1 SCCM 2012 primary site and 2 DPs in one domain . In future this will attach to a CAS server which is in different domain. Can we assign  2 IPs in Primary site server , one IP will use to communicate with its 2 DPs and second
IP for communicating with the CAS server which is in a different domain.?
    Details:
    1)Server : Windows 2012 R2 Std , VM environment .2) SCCM : SCCM 2012 R2 .3)SQL: SQL 2012 Std
    Thanks
    Rajesh Vasudevan

First, it's not possible. You cannot attach a primary site to an existing CAS.
Primary sites in 2012 are *not* the same as primary sites in 2007 and a CAS is 2012 is completely different from a central primary site in 2007.
CASes cannot manage clients. Also, primary sites are *not* used for delegation in 2012. As Torsten points out, multiple primary sites are used for scale-out (in terms of client count) only. Placing primary sites for different organizational units provides
no functional differences but does add complexity, latency, and additional failure points.
Thus, as the others have pointed out, your premise for doing this is completely incorrect. What are your actual business goals?
As for the IP Addressing, that depends upon your networking infrastructure. There is no way to configure ConfigMgr to use different interfaces for different types of traffic. You could potentially manipulate the routing tables in Windows but that's asking
    for trouble IMO.

Have 60 gig ipod classic will power up will go to songs but will not play any songs just sits there on 0 I can fast foreword but it still will not do a thing just sits at new spot in song and will not play , help please.

    Update!
This is what I did to fix both the skipping songs problem and the iPod verifying forever & not able to restore problem (because of iTunes 9):
    a) I used Disk Utility to reformat my iPod while in Disk Mode using the instructions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363?viewlocale=en_US
    and here:
    http://www.methodshop.com/gadgets/ipodsupport/erase/index.shtml#backup
    b) Do not unplug your iPod after reformatting (mine showed up as a firewire disk) - simply launch iTunes ( I went back to 8.2) and follow the Restore instructions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1339
iPod is recognized, syncs and doesn't skip songs anymore after that miserable experience with iTunes 9!!!

Transferring your prepaid cellular data account depends on your carrier. AT&T lets you move it yourself when you go to Cellular Data in Settings and log into your account with your previous AT&T user name and password. For iPads with Sprint service, you can set up an account on the new iPad and contact Sprint Customer Care (888-211-4727 and go through the menus) to deactivate the old plan and get credit for unused service. For Verizon, call the company’s customer service number for mobile broadband support (800-786-8419) and ask to have your account transferred.

If you are transferring from Mac to Mac, then copy the entire itunes folder.
You can also type :" move itunes library" into the google search bar for directions.
Since you do not mention exactly what you have tried and what happened, it is difficult to offer much more.

Purchased Lightroom 5 from Amazon in May, 2014;  We moved it to the new PC and now it won't let me use Develop Mode.  Any suggestions?

    ..and herein lies the problem.
I'm assuming that the version you bought from Amazon was the standalone Lightroom 5 but you have since "updated" with a CC version.
You won't be able to use this version unless you have a CC subscription.  Again I'm assuming you don't have one.
To use the updated standalone version you need to un-install the CC version and download the latest version of the standalone version.  You'll also need the serial number that came with your original disk.

    2. Environment: My remote SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 CU6 and uses
a named instance called INST01 (SRV302 \ INST01). My server will be the primary site watch requirements (SRV501). I
have a VM to test that was used to ratify the SCCM 2012 R2 (vSRV210).This
VM had a primary site that was the basis of data in SRV302 \ INST01, this site has been removed by the Configuration Manager Setup wizard, he correctly remove the database SCCM 2012.
    3. The
exact error message: When trying to run the installation of SCCM 2012 server SRV501, filling in as the database and SRV302.domain.com INST01 for instance, it shows the Prerequisite Check Failed one item as:

    4. Any
recent relevant configuration change (s): Only completely removed the test site that was with the database in SRV302 \ INST01, rebooted the server and tried to start the installation of the production site using the instance where it was before (no more no
    database SCCM it).
    5. Tech diagnosis history: Have you tried doing a restart of the server and
the instance of SQL without success. I did a test site to reinstall the test SCCM VM vSRV210, pointing
to the same instance and it works. But the production server 2012 SCCM has to be SRV501. You
can not create a new instance of the database only for the production site.
What can I do to install the SCCM 2012 instance that (SRV302 \ INST01)?
Is there a procedure for cleanup of an instance of SQL for SCCM 2012?
Is there any way to bypass this check in the SQL setup SCCM 2012?

  • Effect on OSD if remove primary site from SCCM heirarchy

Wanna ask, just a theory question, im currently planning to decommission and upgrade my current primary site server. The process will take roughly a few days. At the same time, I also have other site system server that also acts as an MP (has MP role). So,
for the time being I would not have an active primary site for a couple of days.
Question is, during that timeframe (when primary site not available), am I able to still do OSD? Was thinking the only issue of not having a primary site at that time, my user client machine will not be able to get the latest policy
cause any new policy will be push down from the primary site right...but the client will only be able to get the old TS advertisement correct... Question as below
Does the client machine still able to run the old advert advertised to it?
Does the client machine cache the TS advert and store it locally on their machine?
All the OSD content (boot image, OS image etc) is available in the DP, so it should be able to PXE boot  and execute the TS correct if the primary site is not available?
Read the net on PXE boot flow at
http://blogs.technet.com/b/pingpawan/archive/2014/01/12/deep-dive-pxe-boot-flow-for-sccm-2007-2012.aspx. Its says as below. What I don't understand is isn't the primary server is the only one that can access the DB? Don't quite get it when it says
WDS can also access the DB....?
WDS/PXE sever runs a stored procedure, LOOKUPDEVICE for the client machine against SCCM DB. If the machine is found in the DB or If there is an advert for Unknown collection, WDS signals client to proceed with the PXE
    boot.

Which roles are installed on the site server?

  • Upgrade OS of Primary Site (2008 R2 to 2012 R2)

Our org has a single primary site (SCCM 2012 R2 5.00.7958.1203) and is comprised of two site systems/servers and roughly 2500 clients.
Site System/Server 1 has the following site system roles installed:
    Distribution Point
    Management Point
    Software Update Point
Site System/Server 2 has the following site system roles installed:
    Site Database Server
    Reporting Services Point
Both servers are currently running Windows Server 2008 R2.  We'd like to upgrade the OS of these two site systems/servers to Windows Server 2012 R2 but as I understand it, Microsoft does not support this as an in place upgrade (Infrastructure
    Upgrade for Configuration Manager).
Also, while it is not absolutely necessary, it would be nice to rename the site systems/servers in the process in order to better conform to our organization's naming conventions.
What is the best process to accomplish this without any downtime to existing clients?  I was thinking something along these lines...
Build out a 2nd site/servers with Windows Server 2012 R2 and the correct server names running side-by-side with the current production SCCM site/servers.
Grant the new site's MP computer account permission to modify the System Management container in Active Directory. Will this have any impact on the production environment and existing clients?
Re-install the clients from the new site that is running 2012 R2 OS.
Decommission the old site that is running on 2008 R2 OS.

Grant the new site's MP computer account permission to modify the System Management container in Active Directory. Will this have any impact on the production environment and existing clients?
That will allow the new site to write information to the AD, if configured. That will only have an impact when you've got an overlap in the configured boundaries and you're using site assignment boundaries in combination with auto site assignment
    of clients.
Also, if there is anything in the old environment that you would need in the new environment you can look at migrating those objects. See for more information:

  • Using a custom certificate store for SCCM 2012 clients and primary site server

I have read what seems to be all the pki related documentation out there for SCCM 2012. I have a PKI infrastructure up and running issueing certificates with an offline root through group policy autoenrollment. The problem that i'm faced with is we are migrating
from SCCM 2007 that was in native mode and we chose not to use the CA that we used for the old SCCM environment. When the clients attempt to communicate with the M.P. it runs through all of the different certificates and adds a tremendous amount of overhead
to the M.P. We will have ten's of thousands of clients by migration end. Could someone please point me to a document that goes over how to leverage a custom certificate store that I could then tell the new 2012 environment to use? I know that it's in there,
I've seen it in the console. The setup is one primary site server with SQL on box and the pki I just mentioned as well as the old 2007 environment that is still live.
I read that you can try and use SAN as a method of identifying the new certs but I haven't found a good document covering exactly how that works. Any info you could provide I would be very grateful for. Thanks.

Jason, thank you for your reply. I'm getting the impression that you have never been in the situation where you had to deal with 2 different PKI environments. Let me state that I understand what your saying about trust. We have to configure the trusted root
CA via GPO. That simply isn't enough, and I have a valid example to backup this claim. When the new clients got the advertisement and began the ccmsetup process I used the /pki switch among others. What the client end up doing was selecting a certificate that
had the longest validity period which was issued by our old CA. It checked the authentication chain, found it to be valid and selected it for communication. At that point the installation failed, period, no caveats as you say. The reason the install failed
because the new PKI infrastructure is integrated into the new environment, and the old is not. So when you said " that
are trusted and they can use *any* cert that is trusted because at the end of the day, there is no
difference between two valid certs that have the same purpose as long as they are trusted. "
that is not correct. Both certs are trusted, and use the same certificate template, but only one certificate would allow the install to complete successfully.
Once I started using the CCMCERTISSUERS
switch the client install went swimmingly. The only reason I'm still debating this point is because someone might read this thread see your comments and assume "well I've got my new PKI configured as a trusted root CA, I should be all set" and their
deployment will fail, just as my pilot did.
About Intune I'm looking forward to doing a POC in the lab i built with my Note 3. I'm hoping it goes well as I really want to have our MDM migrated into ConfigMgr... I think the
biggest obstacle outside of selling it to management will be the actual device migration from the current MDM solution. From what I understand of the enrollment process manual install and config is the only path forward.
Thanks Jason for your post and discussion.
