Moving/Sharing Projects/Bus Components Isn't pretty

Anyone have any luck moving a project off of your C drive to a network drive to share it? I can move the files, but once it's there, I can't see the business components that were copied with it.
Anyone have an idea? JDEV Team?

Yeah, we have been sharing a project on a shared drive (two developers only) for a couple of months now, whereby we:
1) keep our .jpr file as read-only. For any project changes we shout at each other before making the jpr updateable and the other developer gets out and in again to pick up the new chages. Saves one developer overwriting the other's changes but would be pretty messy with a big team obviously (I know, I know, we are getting around to proper source version control real soon now, I promise).
2) keep all of the source on the shared drive but write all classes to the developers local drive. Therefore each developer shares source but has their own class files.
Workspace files are kept on the developers local drives also.
3) have standard folder locations for both source and classes. We don't use the Oracle/JDeveloper/myprojects or myclasses etc. Clearly this is only a suitable scenario for playing with JDev or little tests.
It works OK I guess but the real dramas have been when we tried to move a project, when we remove BC4J components, or when anyone tries to manually edit a project or configuration file. That's when things can get really nasty. Again, an "automated way of moving a (BC4J) project" from drive to drive would really help.
My 2c. Thanks,
Simon

  • Shared Project Workflow Problem: Hitting a Wall with Markers

    Hi there,
Apologies in advance for the long note.  We're using Adobe CC to edit and finish commercials and are having a significant issue regarding shared project workflow.  First, some context:
We often edit projects remotely.  When this happens, assistants and other editors who remain in LA will have access to the media on our SAN while the editor and assistant traveling out of town will have their own copy of the media.  I know Adobe Anywhere would solve any issue relating to two identical sets of media in use in different cities, but we're a small shop and the hardware and software expense don't make sense for us at this time.  Please do not respond to anything mentioned from here on by stating we should just get Adobe Anywhere.  Thanks.
What will regularly happen is that the remote editor and assistant will need work done on the project here in LA while they're in session with the clients.  Sometimes this work involves marking up clips with comment markers so the editor can more easily locate a specific moment.  Here's where the problem arises.
Unlike FCP and Avid, Premiere handles markers within the clip's metadata.  So, if I have two separate projects linking to separate but identical instances of media, one of those media instances gets updated with new markers, there is currently no way to get those markers to the other project without also shuttling the new marked-up media.  This is not possible when a remote editor needs dailies marked up in a couple hours and is working across the country or abroad.
But let's assume for the sake of argument that it is possible and we apply this workflow.  Let's also assume that in the time it takes the local assistant to mark up the clips for the remote editor, the editor has added a couple markers of his own, which is reasonable and happens all the time.  Now when the editor links to the newly marked up clips he's received via shipment, he'll wipe out all the markers he's made on his own since giving the order to mark up the footage.  That is a significant inconvenience, especially with clients in the room asking stuff like "can we look at the take where the guy says 'good' instead of 'great'?"
So what happens if we just have repeating sets of media, so that every time the clips markers get updated, the editor actually imports those clips, even though the picture and audio data in those clips is completely redundant to what's already in the project.  The issues with this are, as I can see it, 1) increasing the amount complexity within the project so that you'd have to scan many bins of dailies to look for a single marker, 2) increasing by orders of magnitude the amount of storage space needed, 3) even if problems 1 and 2 are handled, if you have to go to finish with multiple versions of a cut, and those versions reference separate instances of the same clip from different bins, Premiere's dupe frame detection will not work and you'll need to spend a lot of extra time locating duplicate clips manually before sending your EDL or XML off to final color grading.
At this point, I think it's necessary to interject something:  we're talking about markers here.  Why is this such a problem?  FCP and Avid have no such issues simply by making markers - even clip markers - part of the project metadata.  From what I understand, Adobe has chosen to do things differently because of dynamic link, so that After Effects and Prelude, for example, could add markers to a clip and those markers would ripple across all instances of that clip in the different applications.  It's a great feature which we take advantage of here from time to time.
    So what's the solution?
My workaround in CS6, which does not solve the issue of needing to merge clip markers so that an editor's markers and an assistant's markers can be applied to a single piece of media, was to turn off "write XMP ID to Files on Import."  This would generate an XMP sidecar file which could be easily passed along with a project file to the remote editor, who could then overwrite his local XMP sidecars with the new ones containing the new marker info.
However, in Premiere CC that is no longer possible.  It appears that if Premiere CC can access the XMP ID on a file, it will not generate a sidecar regardless of what you have set in your media preferences.  We use ProRes Proxy as our dailies format (again, please no comments on this, it is not up for debate at this time) and Premiere can get to the XMP ID within the files and will not, no matter what it seems, generate an XMP sidecar.
We could change the company workflow to use DNxHD 36 instead of ProRes Proxy, which would give us XMP sidecars, but that would not solve the issue of needing to merge marker lists between projects non-destructively.
The best solution I can think of would be to have a script or some kind or built-in feature which would allow for the batch export, import and merging of marker lists.  This way Adobe could keep its current clip-metadata-based marker workflow while giving professional users needing more flexible marker behavior the ability to have assistants non-destructively modify clip markers without necessitating the creation of extra media or project complexity.
I would really love some input on this and ideas from the pro community out there who has experience with shared project workflows - especially projects being shared remotely.  There's not a lot of info out there about this and it would be great to hear what others are doing.
Thanks a million for sticking with this, if you've made it this far.
    Best,
    Jon

    Thanks Jim,
I understand that Adobe Anywhere solves this, but there should be this fairly basic functionality (which exists in Avid and FCP) in a non-enterprise edition of the software.  I have submitted a couple different feature requests about this, going back to CS5, so hopefully enough people make similar requests for a fix to be implemented.  Adobe Anywhere is really not a solution for our small shop as currently configured/priced, especially when we can have editors working remotely with very affordable USB 3 drives.  The only hangup is the markers, which just isn't worth a 5 figure fix.  As such it's hard to consider the problem solved for either us or any small shop or post crew.
    Best,
    Jon

The other parts to the Windows Universal app (the Windows 8.1 project and the Windows Phone 8.1 project) have two Azure NuGet packages installed: Windows Azure Mobile Services 1.3.2 and Windows Azure Storage 4.3.0. (N.B. Those two projects load without issue.)
This is not a show stopper for me since uninstalling the Azure SDK 2.6 removes the load failure. To uninstall I go via the Control Panel to 'uninstall or change a program' and then uninstall Microsoft Azure Tools for Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 - v2.6
I would like to know how to fix this without uninstalling the Azure SDK 4.6.

  • "Moving a project from network L: drive to C: drive - how do I relink the files?

    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/PremierePro/4.0/WS3D22F379-B6C7-4d8c-9548-26AA3E1EA74F.html
In the above thread "Moving a project to another computer" it states the assets should retain their file names and folder locations so that Premiere Pro can find them and relink them to their clips in the project automatically and although I'm only a novice PP user that is standard advice for any software.  However I can't find advice anywhere on how to swap a project from one disk drive to another on the same computer.
What I want to do is move the project media files off my network (L:) drive to the C: drive of the editing computer as all the advice on here about disk drives is not to use network drives.  I've copied the files over but how do I replace the media file links within the PP project which are currently pointing to the sub-folders on my L:drive with replacement one's pointing to the same folder names but with the path as C: drive.  Sorry if it is a numpties question but I'm not finding the answer via search.
Reason for shifting project - for some reason the sequence files were being lost when I reopened the project so I had to reuse the last good auto-save despite loss of some editing work and the project had also suddenly started taking up to an hour to load all the linked media.  Given the advice about not using network drives decided to eliminate one of the possible causes before going any further with risk of losing the edited file..

I strongly agree with Jim on where to relocate the Project and media files.
Now, when you do Move the files, the Paths (absolute) in the PRPROJ file(s), will no longer be correct. The drive letter will have changed.
When you Open your Project from its new location, you will get a question dialog, "Where is file _____ ?" for the first Asset, where the link is now broken. Using the Finder, navigate to the folder, where that first missing Asset is NOW located, and select that. PrPro will then look in that folder, and will automatically relink to all Assets in that folder. If you have your Assets in multiple folders, you will need to repeat, for each folder, and again, PrPro will relink to all Assets in THAT folder. Depending on the folder/sub-folder hierarchy, you will have to repeat for all folders.
When all Assets have been relinked, I would immediately do a Save_As, incrementing the Project's name, so as to NOT overwrite that original Project file - just in case you ever need to revisit that.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Images "Disappear" When Moving a Project But Really They'r e Just Invisible

Last night I imported 442 images into a new project. I rated them, and edited about 40-50. This morning I moved the project within the same library. When I did so, all the images disappeared, sort of. The project appeared empty. I let it sit a couple of minutes, and undid the move to no effect.
I checked to see if a filter was blocking the images but it was not the problem. I checked the Project properties and it showed the images were all there (plus, I use referenced files and I hadn't deleted the CF card so worst case scenario I had all my originals). Also, when I displayed all the projects in a browser view window, the project showed up and I could sweep through all the thumbnails in the project browser. But again, if I selected the project and tried to see the images in either the browser, viewer, or split view, nothing showed up. No thumbnails, no file names, no empty thumbnails, nothing. The photos were sort of invisible.
I "solved" the issue by moving an image - any image - from another project into the problem project. Suddenly that photo and all the other images, were visible. Removing the random image did not recreate the problem.
Since I no longer have the problem I'm posting for 2 reasons: (1) to publish the problem and my fix in case anybody gets the same problem, and (2) to see if anybody knows what caused this and if there is a more direct fix than my weird indirect fix. Thanks.

I have had the same thing happen consistently. I import images into a default project. Then when I move the project into an organizational folder... all the images disappear. After a couple of panics, I have now realized that if I stay calm, close Aperture, then open it again, the pictures are all present. Quite a pain in the butt, but at least there is a work around. Albeit a bit scary .
    Best,
    Jim

  • Moving Multitake Project From one Machine to Another?

    Hello all,
I just finished a multitake session of ADR on my Macbook Pro. I want to do the hardcore review and editing/mixing of the session on my Mac Pro. I tried moving the project file as well as the contents of the "Edited Media", "Recordings" and "Temporary Files" (found in the "Documents" folder) to the Mac Pro, but STP keeps crashing. I can open the session fine on the laptop.
Is there something I missed in the move? I moved everything to the same/correct folders on the Mac Pro and both machines are running STP version 2.0.2.
FYI: The laptop is running 10.5.6, but the Mac Pro (for arcane reasons I won't bore you with) is currently at 10.4.11.
Any ideas or advice would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!
    Best,
    Patrick

    Hello MacEnstien
I read your response to the previous question. And I have a similar problem. When I did the "Save As" I collected the files. Dropped them onto my external drive and dumped them on my laptop. And on my laptop when I open the project everything works but I can't see the video clip? What should I do?

  • ManualResetEvent and Using a project reference in Shared Project?

I recently just started writing an Universal App for the first time, and it’s also my first time with C# (most of my mobile experience is in Java and Android). I was reading a post on SQLite-WinRT:
    http://andywigleyblog.azurewebsites.net/?p=53.
I’m having trouble with two things:
ManualResetEvent seems to be available for Windows Phone Silverlight, but not a part of the Windows Modern App APIs. I’ve searched in the available .NET APIs, but System.Threading doesn't have ManualResetEvent for modern apps.
For Universal Apps, App.xaml.cs is located in the Shared Project Reference. However, from the shared project reference, I need to access a reference SQLiteWinRT, but the reference is in my modern app project, so I can't access it using 'using'. How do I
access this reference from a Shared Project Reference?
Edit: #2 I was able to figure out. I had to add SQLiteWinRT to both Windows 8 and Windows Phone project.
Edit: #1 Turns out it is available. Under System.Threading. Windows dev/center search just can't find it.  (-‸ლ) The docs are very confusing.

    Hi Qoheleth07,
Thanks for sharing the solution with us, I will mark Matt's reply to close this question, if you still have questions to ask, please feel free to let us know :)

  • Shared projects in WLW 9.2

    Hi,
I move my apps from WLW 8.1 to 9.2. My workspace contains 4 apps (ears),
each has a number of utility and web projects. Some utility projects from
ear 1 used in ear 2, 3 and 4. Everything is compiles fine, but I can't
deploy ears 2, 3 and 4: I always have ClassNotFound exception for some class
defined in project from ear 1. I tried to refernce the utility project from
Java Build Path, J2EE Module Dependencies and Project References pages but
    nothing helps.
Should I deploy the utility project(s) independently as Shared Library or
    Optional Package ?
    Thanks, Denis.

    Hi Denis,
I've created a simple application in Workshop 9.2.1 which demonstrates
the relationship I mentioned in my previous post. I've taken out the
upgrade scenario here, but it can easily be reintroduced, but will
require some additional tweaking, sine some of the relationships didn't
    exist in 8.1
javaproject is a simple Utility project
ws1 web service project which belongs to ws1EAR
ws2 web service project which belong to ws2EAR
javaproject has been added a J2EE module to ws2EAR, which is why when
you select ws2 and view j2ee module dependencies, you will see
    javaproject listed in both tabs
whereas in the case of ws1EAR, the javaproject is not directly part of
the EAR, instead it is only visible to the web project ws1, since it's
been configured at the web app level.
if you export the EAR for these two EAR projects you will notice that,
in the case of ws1EAR, the javaproject jar is within ws1.war under
web-inf/lib, whereas in the case of ws2EAR.ear, the javaproject jar in
    the app-inf/lib
please do attach the support case numbers once you create them.
    hope this helps
    cheers
    Raj
    Denis Sukhoroslov wrote:
    Hi Raj,
Ok, I'll open the support case and probably not only one, this is not the
only issue I have. But for the problem we're discussing I suspect there is
still some misunderstanding. It doesn't relate to uipgrade process at all.
When I upgraded my apps from 8.1 to 9.2 the shared jars were propely copied
into app-inf/lib directories of ears which use them. I removed the jars
becase they shouldn't be longer needed at least at build time.
Unfortunatelly the shared jars are not final. And I can't configure J2EE
module dependency as you suggesting: shared utility jars are used from
another utiity and ejb projects (jars) which belongs to the defferent ears.
This type of projects (utility jar and ejb jar) doesn't allow to make a
depenedency on projects which are not in the current ear.
BTW, when I exported my ear projects to EARs WLW added the shared jars into
all ears that reference them properly. But it doesn't add them in expoided
    format.
    Denis.
    <Raj Alagumalai> wrote in message news:[email protected]...
    Hi Denis,
Looks like the issue you are facing is slight different from what I assumed.
Regarding a possible solution, you can do either one of the solutions you
described. These would be appropriate if the shared project is final and you
no longer envision changing or updating it. If however if you do plan on
making modifications, I would suggest that you use add the Utility project
to all 4 EAR project via J2EE module dependency or to each web project via
J2EE module dependency. The EAR level dependency will copy the final jar to
app-inf/lib whereas the second option will copy the jar to web-inf/lib
As Bill mentioned, I recommend that you open a support case to make sure
that the dependencies are set up correct.
I will also try running your 8.1 upgrade scenario where a custom jar is
placed in the app-inf/lib in the 8.1 application.
    Cheers

  • Sharing projects between libraries

I'm looking for a solution to share projects in sync between multiple libraries, without having to export & import projects each time. I'd like the shared projects to be in sync between the libraries.
I'm putting together a highlights portfolio, so in each of my many libraries, I have a "best of" project for the selects. I'd like each of these "best of" projects to be seen by a separate library which is just used to make my portfolio. Any time I update the best of in a given library, I'd like that to be reflected in the shared project in the portfolio library.
Is there a solution/workaround for this?
I found a free script that is supposed to make this possible, but I've had no luck with it thus far...
    http://tinyurl.com/ApertureSpanning
    Thanks!
    GPM
    I'm running 2.1.2

Thanks a lot for your response, RB -- I read the page you referenced:
    http://photo.rwboyer.com/2008/09/managing-aperture-2-on-multiple-computers/
And maybe I'm missing something, but I don't believe that either of these two approaches solves my particular problem?
It seems that both approaches require that you import/export projects, or relocate masters, etc. What I'm looking to do is have projects from multiple libraries synced with each other "live", with out having to import/export or manage anything manually.
Simplest example: I have one library called "Brazil," and in it I have a project I've named "Best of Brazil". I have another library called "Portfolio," where I pull together all my best work from various projects. What I want is for the "Best of Brazil" project to show up automatically in the "Portfolio" project. And anytime I'm in the Brazil library & add some new shots to the Best of Brazil project, next time I go into my Portfolio library, those new shots or edits should be automatically in the mirrored Best of Brazil project -- inside the Portfolio library.
It's kind of like seeing & accessing other libraries, but only projects you've designated as shared...
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks a lot!

  • OSB 10.3.1 Sharing projects across OSB Configutrations

    Hello,
I am trying to maximise code resuse by creating projects that are shared across different OSB configurations. Examples of such projects include those that have resources such as WSDLs and Schemas or XQuerys. I tried to do this using the following steps:
    1. I created a workspace
    2. I created an OSB configuration (Ocfg1) in that workspace
    3. I created a project (Common) that I wanted to share in that OSB Configuration
The first challenge is right here. A project seems to be tied to a configuration. However, if you inspect the project contents there is no reference to the OSB configuration that it is contained within. The association is defined in a file in the OSB configuration project.
    4. I created a second OSB Configuration project (Ocfg2) and edited the file in this configuration project (as mentioned above) to add a reference to the shared project (Common).
This second OSB configuration did not show that the shared project was part of it even after refreshes of the view. After restarting Workshop, I found that the shared project was now in the second OSB Configuration project (Ocfg2), but was deleted from the first (Ocfg1).
Thus within a workspace in Workshop, an OSB project can only be added to a single OSB Configuration project it seems. I could therefore create two workspaces, but then I would need to copy the shared project which is exactly what I wanted to avoid.
This appears to be a severe restriction of Workshop for OSB 10R3.1. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Adil.

I know this thread is a little old, but the same issue still applies in OEPE 11.1.1.7 and OSB 11.1.1.5.  The workaround I implemented was:
    1) Put all of my OSB projects in a folder (for easy version-controlling)
    CommonArtifacts
    MyProject1
    MyProject2
    2) Create an OSB Configuration Project for each Project.  So now that folder looks like:
    CommonArtifacts
    MyProject1
    MyProject2
    OSB Configuration - MyProject1
    OSB Configuration - MyProject2
    3) Create 2 workspaces in OEPE
    workspace_MyProject1
    workspace_MyProject2
    4)  Switch to workspace_MyProject1
    Import Eclipse Projects:
    - CommonArtifacts
    - MyProject1
    - OSB Configuration - MyProject1
    5) Drag CommonArtifacts and MyProject1 into the OSBConfguration - MyProject1 (while in OSB Perspective)
    6) Switch to workspace_MyProject2
Repeat the import & drag steps
The caveat to this is that you can only work on 1 "MyProject#" at a time and you need to switch between Eclipse/OEPE workspaces to go back and forth.  But the underlying assets within those projects are still in a single location on the file system.
    Cheers,
    Michael

  • Nuget and shared projects

Having used Visual Studio for personal projects I create solutions that share project directories with other solutions. This has worked very well for the last 15 years or so until NUGET. Nuget seems to assume that packages are managed and stored in the solution
directory thus when I work on a different solution I find that the project and solution are in strong disagreement about NUGET packages.
Right now I manually edit the share project files but that's not a great solution. What is the proper way to manage NUGET projects in shared solutions?

    Hi Bob,
    >>Right now I manually edit the share project files but that's not a great solution. What is the proper way to manage NUGET projects in shared solutions?
For the shared project in solutions, to use the NuGet package, as far as I know, we would edit the config and the project/solution file.
Not very sure that whether you have used this way, but as far as I know, it would be a better solution for it now.

  • Moved my projects, doomed everything that is sacred, want to nuke and reset

So being "good with computers" I often skip the obvious and try and hack the crap out of things. So, I moved my projects to an external drive using finder because they did not seem to be part of a database of any kind. Well, long story short I bashed around at top speed and now iMovie makes it as far as a beachball and that's it. It has created thumbnails and processed everything, but stops there.
    WHATEVER.
I just want to vaporize it and start from scratch. I have searched around for some kind of .pref file or .db to nuke to make it forget but it seems the whole iPhoto thing is the hang up.
Any ideas how to bash it's head in and make it act as a new-born iMovie and create everything from scratch? Like how you hold down a key during opening to force iPhoto to stop screwing around and rebuild the universe?
(I will re-import the projects one by one later - I want iMovie thinking my only videos are in iPhoto like the first time it was opened, processing for 2 billion years and what have you. The projects and events are tucked away from its unholy gaze.)
