MPEG 4 Plays as a white screen

Hi all,
In the past I have had no problems convering files to play on my iphone, until now. I have a new camera which recored in MPEG 4 and all my movies (after 'creating a iphone version') play with a white screen both on the phone and in Itunes.
This is very frustrating and any help would be great.

PS. Does anyone know of any software that can edit these files in the way Windows Movie maker can? I downloaded a trial version of Sony Vegas which was very nice but far to advanced for what I want to do. Cheers again- Matt

HTML5 and the White Screen/ Play Button Conundrum

I'm publishing a session to Scormcloud.com as HTML5. I have to have a playbar with a play button, or I'm stuck on a white screen.
I'd like to remove that button, but if I do, the session will never play past the white screen. I've looked at all of the existing options online to address this... please help.

I am experiencing the same issue as well. I do not recall this happening in my previously published project. Then went back in for a revision and am now experiencing this. Wonder if this came after Captivate was updated to 7.0.1.237.
Even with Autoplay turned off and no Play Bar I would be happy with the user having to click a play icon to start the project. Except this update seems to be causing the Play icon to become static and overlay every slide in my project!
Very frustrating. Have searched the web and have not found any REAL solution yet. Looks like it may be a Chrome compatibility issue. As you can see at the end it is only a temp fix because once the coding becomes a norm you have to go back and change the source files again.

21" iMac stuck on white screen, help!

I have had my 21" iMac for about three months, it is brand new, not second hand and has never had any problems up until now. My iMac was running fine today, not a glitch or anything, but it was unplugged from the power socket and when I plugged it back in and turned it on, the power on sound played, then a white screen appeared with an Apple and spinning wheel. I left it on for SEVEN hours while I went out, came back and it is still not loading, so it has nothing to do with the speed of it. I ran the FSCK and it told me there were modifications made and that the Mac was okay. I rebooted it and the same thing happened. I can not use the installation disc because a) I can not find it and b) there is a disc in tere that will not come out.
Is there anything I could do before having to make an appointment with an Apple Genius?

I have rebooted and managed to reach the Recovery HD and used “Verify Disk” on the Macintosh HD and it said “The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK.” so I ran the disk repair just in case. I then selected “Restart” from the Apple menu. It returns to the white screen with the Apple logo and the spinning wheel, but it is still not loading any further than that. Is there anything else I could possibly try?

New Zen 8GB White Screen after l

The Issue: the player goes to white screen when "locked" and then "unlocked" while playing music. The music still plays, but the white screen does not reset until the player is shut off and then restarted.
Basically I just want to keep this issue current on these boards, and know whether it will be fixed in a firmware update. If it's a hardware problem (and therefore not fixable through firmware), I would appreciate it if Creative Labs would kindly let its customers know so that they can return their products.
Please post here if you're seeing the same issue (or better, if you know a fix!).

Ahh. The white screen. Have you reformated the player? Under creative media explorer tools, there is an option to format. Try this. If not, send it back. Here is a good forum too.

I've two iPod Nanos (4th gen - 8GB). I'm facing a severe problem with both of them. For both iPods, I tried to do this method Simultaneously press the top button + home (central) button. But of no use.
1. My first iPod is showing a white screen. I could not see anything. But I can listen to songs by blindly pressing the play button twice. The battery comes only for an hour.? How do I get the display and longer battery?
2. My second iPod is facing more severe problem. None of the buttons are working. When I connect it my PC it showing "CONNECTED- eject before disconnecting". But it is not ejecting with all the usual methods. When I manually and physically disconnect it from the PC the same "CONNECTED- eject before disconnecting" is still showing till the battery goes off. After that if i press any button it is showing low battery signal. And when i re-connect it to the PC the same process is repeating. When I tied to restore it to the factory settings I'm getting "Error" report.
(I'm using windows 7)

Sounds like some hardware issues, meaning you'll want to take or send the iPods in for service or repairs. You can choose to have Apple do an out of warranty exchange for the prices indicated in the link below or find another third party service perhaps even local to your area.

White screen in the Adove Content Viewer (Android) when playing OAM files, how do I fix this?

I made an oam animation for an "advertisement" article within the folio. Just simply imported the OAM file, set the overlay settings, and preview. Perfect, everything was fine.
Now a white screen appears. I can see the poster image when the page first loads, and then it goes blank. I read about similar white screen issues with OAM's, reading that this was a problem with PDF articles, so I went: "Ok, let me change it to PNG."
Nope, didn't work.
I tried JPG, that didn't work either. I tried PDF/PNG/JPG with delays from 0.125s - 0.5s, I tried placing an image on top of the OAM file, & I changed the user interactions, transparant background, etc.
Still white light.
So I thought, maybe the OAM file is f'd up, let me go make another OAM file with two png files that just moves their position. I tried it with & without a transparent poster image. Still a bright light.
It works in the Adobe Content Viewer on the desktop (as choppy as it is), but not on my device (Nexus 7).
Everything worked yesterday, I don't know if there was an update or something? Am I missing something?
I cannot convey to you how long i've been troubleshooting this issue because I need animations for my projects. I don't like posting on the forum unless I exhausted every source I could find.

You know what's odd?
Yesterday I said it wasn't working and gave up on it. I read this message and I know I had all my animations set to 0.125 - thanks to some past forum questions you've answered- to which I double checked within InDesign.
Anyway, I went to check the saved folio preview - the one that didn't work- and now it works.
I didn't' change anything from when I gave up on it yesterday.
I guess this is answered, although I do not know what happened to the same folio that didn't work yesterday, to work today.

Why do I get a white screen when playing movies?

Recently, for no apparent reason, when I play movies on my AppleTV 1st gen, the screen is completely white, no picture or sound. When I play TV shows, everything works like a charm. But whether they are movies I already own, or movies I rent, there is only a white screen and no sound. Anyone have any ideas?

Try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds, or resetting it using the reset option under general.

Plays only sound with a white screen in Quicktime

Hello all,
After I export my HDV file into a .mov file I try to view it in Quicktime. When I play it in quicktime it shows up as a blank white screen with only the audio working. This is odd because the video file plays perfectly fine in Adobe After Effects and Final Cut Pro.
This is really bothering me how Quicktime cannot play a movie file but these other programs can. Any solutions?

I'm having a similar issue (movie file is white and plays audio but no pic). I have to export uncompressed 10-bit files for another company to compress as needed for various uses. When they got the files - they didn't play properly but I can play them on all my computers that have After Effects and FCP. Is there a work-around for this? I can't give them compressed files...what to do?

White Screen when Video Plays

I am using Premiere Elements 9 software. When i add clips to the timeline and hit play, the video does not play in playback screen, instead i just get a white screen. Once i hit the puase button, the picture of the frame the playerhead is on goes back onto the screeen, but as soon as i hit the play button, the screen turns white again. I have updated my graphics card drivers and the prject settings are correct. What is causeing the issue?

Thank you for that info. You have got a pretty recent (did not check, but that might be the latest) video driver. I sort of expected to see a date about 6 - 8 mos. ago. If there IS a newer driver, I would definitely try that. Also, as over the years, both nVidia and ATI/AMD have issued drivers, that were just bad with Adobe programs, I keep older (known good) drivers on my HDD, just in case I have to roll-back.
Do you have a Dell, HP, Lenovo or Toshiba computer? The reason that I ask is that those companies very often re-wrap the nVidia (and ATI/AMD) drivers, to work with their tweaked hardware.
With the latest video driver, and that Canon footage, if you have the proper Project Preset, things should edit fine. The smoothness of editing/playback will be heavily dependent on your CPU's speed, but should not affect the display.

White screen when playing StageVideo iPad 2, can this be controlled?

I am currently building an application where the background of the application is a looping video using the StageVideo API. The video plays fine and runs smoothly, however there are cases where the video will get interrupted (and as a result displays a white screen). One of these cases include double tapping the home button on the iPad, attempting to switch apps. When the screen slides up to reveal the currently available apps, the screen video stops playing and the screen goes white. Another case is when the iPad receives a notification or alert. When this happens, the video stops playing and the screen goes white. Finally, I have tested this on two iPads (one Verizon and one AT&T). When entering any view that has this video playing, the AT&T iPad 2 would quickly flash a white screen before playing the video. However, on the Verizon iPad this does not happen.
I would like to know if there is any way that this can be controlled so that I can produce consistent behavior across devices. Would setting persistNavigatorState to true help? Or should I be listing for some sort of status on the StageVideo instance?
What are your thoughts?

I actually figured out what was wrong. On my "viewDeactivate" event, I was cleaning up all object references (including the StageVideo instance). So everytime viewDeactivate was dispatched, the blank white screen would show up.
For anyone who runs into this situation (on the iPad), you should know that the viewDeactivate event is dispatched not only when moving between views, but also when alerts (or notifications) popup, when going back to the Home screen, and also when you double tap the Home button for the multitasking bar. Likewise the viewActivate event will fire when you return from any of the above mentioned states on the iPad, not just when moving between views. Knowing this helped me to fix the issue I was facing with StageVideo.

White Screen When Trying to Play Movies / TV Shows Downloaded via AppleTV

Very frustrating, consistent issue with downloading movies or TV shows via AppleTV. Almost always results in a blank white screen with no sound and no video playing. No matter how many times I stop the video from playing, exit back out to the main menu, and restart the show, the white screen persists. The only thing that seems to fix it is to manually unplug the AppleTV, wait for 10+ sec, and then replug it in. Once AppleTV restarts, then I am able to watch the specific show I had been trying to watch. HOWEVER, the problem resurfaces as soon as I move onto the next movie or TV show.
Any suggestions on how to end this uber-annoying cycle?? I have all of the latest software downloaded. I have disconnected my iTunes library from AppleTV and then re-paired / re-synced the two (iTunes and AppleTV), and I have even tried resetting my AppleTV to factory settings (although given the volume of content I like to keep on my AppleTV, this leads to incredibly long timeframes to re-sync my AppleTV with my iTunes library). Any thoughts / suggestions / miracles would be hugely appreciated. THANKS!!!

Can't help you I am afraid, but I can tell you that you are not alone. Keep having exactly the same problem. Rented a Movie this evening and had to pull the plug half way through the download to be able to start and watch it.
I do have the Apple TV connected through a HDMI switch and wondered if it may be copy protection HDCP or something so was going to try it on component when I find my set of cables.

White Screen when playing Movie

Hey, I'm downloading Ironman (bought) and its already past the part when I can begin to watch it, even though it's not finished downloading. When i hit play, a white screen pops up and nothing plays, it stays like that even when fastforwarding. I go to play my other movies and the same thing happens with all of them except Speed Racer which plays fine. Why does my apple tv's screen go white?

I had exactly the same problem, you will find many posts saying that quicktime and other programs need to be upgraded. Quicktime will not do anything here if it is about your appletv. Just make sure that your appletv is up to date with 2.2 software and that itunes on your connected computer is the latest. What will definitely work after all the updates is that you restart your appletv to factory settings, install all available updates, set it up again as if you just bought it and it will definitely work again.

White screen when playing .avi file

I recently upgraded to Quicktime Pro, and when I try to play a video that I downloaded, all I get is a white screen. The time counts up perfectly, but there is no picture. The same thing happened when I had just the basic quicktime.
I'm not sure if it's an issue with the quicktime, or if I need to get a new component?
If anyone could help me out with this, it would be greatly appreciated!

The Xvid package should come with a read me that tells you where the files need to go. Also, does the movie you're trying to watch use Xvid? Get Info when you're in QuickTime Player, what codecs does it say are used by the movie?

White screen when playing back .mov files in QT.

I have two different .mov files created using an older version of QT (7.0.3, I think). The content is the same on both, but one has a bitrate of 750k and the other has a bit rate of 1200k. The one with 750k still plays just fine, but the other only gives me a white screen.
The problem started when I upgraded to 7.1.5, and I can't find the old installer for 7.0.3. Can anyone help?

Thank you very much for trying to figure this out. I have noticed that a lot of people have had the same problem. I have tried to change pretty much all settings on the different computers at work and even taken the files home to try them out on my Mac and also on my PC. Both have QT pro. But still the same problem.
