MPlayer + Xscreensaver = gnome_screensaver_control() Error
Hi all
well i guess many people know about the error, that if you select "Stop XScreenSaver" in MPlayer , next thing you want to play some movie, you get the gnome_screensaver_control() Error
Just wondering if theres a way to fix this, besides compiling again MPlayer whitout the gnome screensaver option : )
Any help is highly aprecciated
cheers
I think I'm going to create a new mplayer package which includes gnome-screensaver option.. Because nobody cares about this.. I also have this problem. And I can't watch any movies unless I close gnome-screensaver by killing it.

Mplayer and VirtualBox error after installing ATI Drivers
I recently switched from the Open Source drivers for my ATI video card. Since that time some programs are refusing to load.
I switched to the Catalyst repository to install the new drivers for my card.
The specific error message I get when running the mplayer in the terminal is
mplayer: error while loading shared libraries: libdirectfb-1.4.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
the message for VirtualBox is
VirtualBox: supR3HardenedMainGetTrustedMain: dlopen("/opt/VirtualBox/VirtualBox.so",) failed: libdirectfb-1.4.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
So far only 2 programs have been giving me this error are mplayer and VirtualBox.
I have tried reinstalling directfb and mplayer, but this doesn't fix things.
I have run ldd `which mplayer` and the following is missing
libdirectfb-1.4.so.0 => not found
libfusion-1.4.so.0 => not found
libdirect-1.4.so.0 => not found
I am running 64bit Arch.
Thanks for your helpThanks
wonder wrote:LD_DEBUG=files mplayer > log 2>&1
After running that, I discovered that sdl needed to be rebuilt. Once I did that, everything works fine.

Xfce with Xscreensaver Problem, Errors and Transparent Loading.
Hi I'm new to Arch but I'm absolutely amazed how configurable the system is and with the amount of info on the wikis! Unfortunately I'm stuck on an Xscreensaver issue in my Xfce install.
The first problem I'm having is how it runs; in my expert technical terms;
It loads, the screen goes black but then the desktop shows again and I get a sort of semi-transparent screensaver? So I can see conky and the wallpaper as well as the (glmatrix) screensaver running?
Second thing is when I logout I see the following messages;
xscreensaver 12:46:10 Can't open display: :0
12:46:10 running as carbon/users (1000/100)
I tried to be careful when reading the wiki for Xscreensaver and others when I was installing the system so I can't think of any obvious reason this is happening. Any help you can give would be really appreciated!! I've added my ".xscreensaver" config file below incase it's really obvious (sorry).

I logged in and executed;
xscreensaver &
and got:
xscreensaver: 15:39:26: already running on display :0.0 (window 0x800001)
So I guess I've confirmed that the logout errors seem to be a result of X shutting down when I logout, back to tty1 and that xscreensaver is running OK after startx. Now I just need to work out why it doesn't seem to properly "override" the desktop and runs with something like 50% transparency ...

[SOLVED] X11 error: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)
Both VLC and mplayer are unable to display video (sound is ok). mplayer complains
X11 error: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)
I am able to play the same file with
mplayer -vo x11
but no fullscreen with -vo x11 (which is to be expected), and I see no reason why the xv output should not work..
This is on Dell Latitude D530, intel GM965/GL960. I've switched to arch from gentoo, where it worked, week or two ago.
Any ideas what can be wrong?
Last edited by renergy (2014-09-28 10:13:03)Have you tried any other video outputs? See 'mplayer -vo help' for the list.
Try mpv, mplayer's cousin.
Does it happen only with one file? Run mediainfo on it.
Edit: Are you using SNA or UXA?
Compare version numbers and configs of the respective packages of gentoo and Arch. Only what's to blame - the drivers?

Xscreensaver daemon not starting on startup w/KDE
hope this is the place to post this!
I have tried putting xscreensaver in my daemon list in rc.conf.
I have put xscreensaver -no-splash & in my ~/.xinitrc before wm starts.
but, I have to manually start the daemon. So, obviously I'm doing something wrong. Could someone point out how to have the daemon start automatically?
I'm currently using kde 3.5.5 - all packages are current.
Also, I do not have screensavers enabled in KDE.
Thanks,
McRae[mcrae@blackbox ~]$ desktop-file-validate /home/ mcrae/.kde/Autostart/xscreensaver.desktop

This is the output? I'm sure the answer is right here but I'm not sure what to do with the output... :oops: -
Hi
I'm trying to get .mp4 video files (on an eHDD) to play on an old 500MHz G3 iBook running 10.4.11 - they were originally converted from DVD using Handbrake, on a G5 iMac where they ran quite happily. The G3 has QT 7.6.4, plus Perian, plus VLC - but nothing will play the video. I hear the audio track but the video is just blank black. Normal DVDs play AOK.
Is there anything I'm doing wrong or must I accept that this machine is too old even for MP4 video?No dice I'm afraid, BD. The Div-X installed QT behaved just as before,while MPlayer gave this error :

50% CPU for syslog after plugging in the LCD // mplayer error
Hi,
i'm new to arch, and not very familiar with linux.... however, i switched to it and ... yeah it runs ... after give or take 15 hours of editing config-files ... *g
Now i wanted to test my HP w2207h (22" LCD) and plugged it in. The first problem: I wanted to start the laptop and all of a sudden an ACPI-error msg is floating the display and doesn't want to go away... so I plugged the VGA cable out and started the Notebook again. Puuh, everything runs but it's bit awkward, isn't it?
Then I wanted to plug the VGA cable in and suddenly everything runs veeeeery slowly... so I opened the console and typed in TOP to see what's going on... the syslog-daemon uses 50% of the cpu... and that's what happens every time when i plug in the cable... after i plug it out, everything runs smoothly again.. :-(
Now to my second problem: everytime i want to open MPlayer, it tells me: "can't open audio device /dev/dsp device or resource busy" however, i can here everything... mhm
I hope, someone could help an arch-noob
Cheers,
Lukas
Last edited by Lukas0907 (2008-02-18 19:15:17)Second problem is quite usual if you will try to play quake2 you will see how /dev/dsp do not want to work at all. Try to play file from command line:
mplayer sth.sth
It works good for me.
It is because of boring story about ALSA and OSS.
And sysleg-deamon is not critical part of system you can disable it by removing from /etc/rc.conf file. -
Running mplayer at boot with systemctl. fails with alsa-lib error
I am running Arch ARM on a raspberry pi and would like to use it as a headless music player.
I am trying to run mplayer in slave mode at start up and have in read from a fifo pipe which I could write to over SSH.
I have written this mplayer.service file:

User=user
Type=forking
[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
When I start this service with 'sudo systemctl start mplayer.service' I get the following output:

Last edited by epoynton (2013-10-30 21:44:43)Have you tried setting the audio output driver for mplayer explicitly? See:
mplayer -ao help
I would try
-ao alsa
ALSA doesn't use /dev/dsp anymore I don't think. On a Pi you will also need to make sure the mixer is set with amixer like:
amixer cset #
You can use
aplay -l
to see the available device IDs etc.
Hope this helps.

It can be a bug in the MPlayer code _or_ in your drivers _or_ in your
gcc version. If you think it's MPlayer's fault, please read
DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html and follow the instructions there. We can't and
won't help unless you provide this information when reporting a possible bug.
it also happen to the aur version.After building mplayer myself, I can confirm the problem. To start with, the liba52 patch that was necessary to compile mplayer with gcc 4.4.0, is not necessary when you compile with gcc 4.4.1. The bug fix was incorporated in the latest gcc release. Unfortunately MPlayer crashes again on ac3 files. Until a fix has come out, the only thing to get it back to work is to compile mplayer with a previous gcc (4.3 is a good example). You'll need to install a previous gcc besides the one you currently have installed. The best way to do so is to base yourself on the gcc-snapshot pkgbuild from aur. Here's the one I used myself:

[solved] mplayer error
Today I've updated my mplayer to 29411-2 and after trying to play any file i get:
zsh: illegal hardware instruction mplayer
Any ideas what can be wrong?
Last edited by xendo (2009-07-06 16:31:09)I was having a similar error. I think the reason is that this new version is complied against the new libjpeg 7. So if you dont have that installed it wont work. This caused me lots of issues this morning, so I downgraded for now back to the older vers, and all is working again.

Mplayer errors since Pulseaudio upgrade
Hey all... wondering if anyone has seen this problem yet... I've searched high & low but I've not been able to find any bugs raised in the mplayer project or any recent posts in here...
Since upgrading pulseaudio from version 5 to version 6, mplayer has stopped playing any videos in 6 channel surround sound using pulse. I initially though it was pulseaudios fault, I downgraded & mplayer worked again... but I upgraded again & tested with VLC & a host of different apps, VLC is outputting surround sound via pulse and everything else works fine.
Mplayer works except when using the switch "-channels 6"
I can play any movie using mplayer in stereo using: mplayer -ao pulse -channels 2 somefile but mplayer -ao pulse -channels 6 somefile fails with the below AO: [pulse] pa_stream_write() failed: Invalid argument errors in the log which just keep repeating and the video shows as frozen on the screen.

mplayer: error while loading shared libraries: libgssapi.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I get that error when trying to use mplayer. The only new thing I've done is that I upgraded Firefox
I tried upgrading mplayer but still.... the same error.
Any ideas?/usr/lib/libgssapi.so is contained by the package heimdal which was updated lately.
My mplayer version is 1.0rc1-8 and I've heimdal 1.0.1-2 installed and everything is fine.
One of your program's version should differ from mine and you can solve this issue by several ways:
1) Wait until mplayer is re-built against heimdal [what ever version you have]
2) Re-build mplayer against this version yourself using ABS
3) Check whether there's a more recent mplayer version on another repository and switch repositories -
[SOLVED] smbclient error mplayer stopped working
So I installed samba and smbclient and after trying to start the samba deamon i got weird HEIMDAL errors and the deamon
would not start. Obviously the smbclient didnt work either.
All right, maybe theres something wrong with the newest version I thought. It was really just for some experiment anyway.
I removed samba with -Rs and smbclient with -Rd.
Now I get errors when starting mplayer:
[roybot@roybot ~]$ mplayer video01.avi
mplayer: error while loading shared libraries: libsmbclient.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
How can I make mplayer work again?
