Hi,
The client has some excel files and ms access.i don't have proper idea about that.
1,how to convert from these to oracle using oracle migration workbench
or
covert the migration by plsql procedures?
2,which method is best method
extract the data from msaccess or ms excel and put into flat file then load into oracle.
or
extract the data from msaccess or ms excel and put into staging table then load into oracle.

Hi,
I'm using Oracle 11g on Windows environments, XP, server 2003 etc.
If I use a domain user (user1) maintained on domain server (adsvr.company.com) to manage Oracle objects in DB server (dbsvr), do I have to assign user1 as member of administrator on DB server (dbsvr)?
I'm asking this because my software vendor requires for it but our security policy doesn't allow us to assign normal domain user (user1) to administrator group on local machine (dbsvr).
If I have to assign user1 to administrator group on dbsvr, please point me which document says so.

Looks like some left-over processes keeping a hold on configuration files.
Manually kill the left-over processes and start the DB Console.

Linking Access tables, creating a query with using both Access and Oracle

Hello,
I am using 3.0.04.34 version Oracle Developer. I am supposed to create a script/procedure to use both Access tables and oracle tables together. There is an option in developer to copy the access tables into oracle. But it doesn't help me. Because when we updated the access tables
the copied ones are not be updated. How can I created a linked access tables to oracle and create a query with using both access and oracle table together.
I will appreciate if you guys help me. I look forward to hearing from you guys.

to be able to query MS Access tables in Oracle you need an additional product, the Oracle Database Gateway for ODBC. It allows you to link any foreign database into an Oracle database using a suitable ODBC driver. You can then access the MS Access tables through a database link based on the Database Gateway for ODBC. This will also allow you to join local Oracle and remote MS Access tables from your Oracle database.

Uploading time excel should open in Client sysetm.
Downloading Time User will select the Excel file from Client system.

Open an Excel file to read and load it into Oracle - Oracle COM Automation

Hello All,
Please I need your help for this problem:
I need to load Excel sheet data (read the data) and load it into Oracle database (insert into a table), the excel file created and has data before, and saved with xls format. and I need to do that using the Oracle® COM Automation (ordcom package). The examples I found open and create a new workbook and deletes the old saved data, so I need to open (edit) the sheet just for reading.
I appreciate ans sample code to help me do that, Please help me out. This is very urgent.

For reading from Excel, there are some easy ways like Oracle Heterogenious Services. If you want to use COM then:

How Do I *Stop* Quattro Pro from Converting Access and Excel Files?

Ever since I installed WordPerfect 7, I've had periodic difficulties of having stored Excel files open in Quattro Pro. Normally, I can easily correct that by retrieving the files from within Excel. But now a more difficult problem has presented
itself. Yesterday, I tried exporting an Access file into Excel and Quattro Pro opened. Short of deleting Quattro Pro is there anyone I can stop it from trying to convert my Excel and Access files?

Install Internet Explorer 10 (and Internet Explorer 11) in Windows 7 online support; but when I try to do so, I keep getting an error message which in substance states" you can't install this version because you've already installed a latter version of
IE. What's a fellow to do? I've tried uninstalling Internet Explorer and beginning with a cold boot; but, nothing seems to work. So, at least until I can find a solution to that problem, I guess I'm stuck with Firefox. Sigh.

Transfering Access and Excel to XML

There is no single Java API that is built to translate Access and Excel data into XML. However, you can use a simple combination of APIs to accomplish this task. A direct way of doing this is to create ODBC datasources from your Access or Excel sources, use JDBC to connect to and query those datasources. From there you can use the WebRowSet to convert your ResultSet into XML. If you require more control over the formatting of the data, you'll need write something that iterates over the ResultSet data, translating the column names and values into XML. I would recommend using JDOM to build your XML documents. WebRowSet is part of the Rowset API.

Just adding to what CSound has said.
Pages and Numbers will change Word and Excel documents when they open and close them.
Sometimes the change is subtle and sometimes not. With the latest versions of Pages and Numbers, more likely not.
So don't think you are going to work with MsOffice files without problems. You will always have something not right and in some cases really annoyingly not right. Like having all the text from Pages appear bold in MsWord, or page breaks in the wrong place or some objects and graphics not appearing in one or the other.
If working between different Operating Systems and MsOffice files, I also recommend LibreOffice. It opens and saves nearly all file formats. Unfortunately not .pages or numbers. Yet. The folks at LibreOffice are busy adding to it all the time, and making sure it works in all Operating systems, Mac, Windows and Linux and they are promising iOS as well soon.

I can upload data from excel to access having created stored procedure on access.
I do the upload using my vb code.
How can I upload data from excel to oracle db? could i use the same technique as above? only problem is im not sure if that vb code will work with oracle?
has anyone done this before? anyone have example code?

The easiest way to do this is to use a Oracle ODBC connection which can be found on OTN. You do not need a stored proc.
After installing Oracle ODBC on the machine where Excel and Access live, do the following.
Note, you already have steps 1, 2 and 3. I list all the steps for others.
1. Create your MS/Excel workbook
2. Add data to it.
3. Save it as "book1.xls".
4. Open MS/Access
5. Create new blank database, call it db1.
6. Then from the file menu, get external data, import, make sure the file type is xls, select book1.xls.
7. The wizard will walk you through the process of importing you Excel workbook into a new table.
8. Save
9. From the file menu select export table.
10. Select ODBC at the bottom of the "Save as type list".
11. Then (depending how you set up ODBC) select Machine Data Source.
12 . Select your Oracle ODBC connection and press OK.
You now have taken data from Excel to Access and placed it in the Oracle schema that was named when you setup your Oracle ODBC connection.

Importing Excel into Oracle

Scenario:
7 users have access to an Excel Sheet.
Any user can use the coldfusion front-end and upload this
excel file into an Oracle database.
Excel sheet has 30 columns, but when they click on
Upload...only 5 0r 6 columns will be filled.
The rest will be null values in the database.
I'm not in a position to make use of Oracle External Tables
neither can I run DB scripts to check for newer Excel Uploads.
As of now I need suggestions on the possible approaches.
Also when user clicks upload:
If col-1 has value then col-2, col-3 should have values and
col-4, col-5 should not have any values.
There will be checks like these in place too.
Please suggest how do I check an .xls file if all these
conditions are filled per row (assuming that there would be 40 rows
per upload per user per day). Do I check the .xls file or do I

some options.
The file could be uploaded to a given location. That location
is
configured as a datasource. Use standard SQL operations
against it.

Yes it is possible using SQL*LDR, External tables and ORCL Export Utility. Though I didn't try Export Utility to load the external files.
SQLLdr sysntax:
Create a control file.
It looks like this

then use sqlldr command from your OS.

I never use UTL_FILE. I use Delphi and I need to make a subrotine to import xls file to oracle. So, I prefer to do into DataBase, using database resource, but I do not oracle expertise, I have some difficulties. Tanks.

I transferred files from a NAS server to the Mac Mini Snow Leopard Server and now some of the files have Custom Access and can't be opened by some users. How do I fix this?

We're setting up our Mac Mini Snow Leopard Server, and in the process transferred files that had been stored and accessed from our Blackarmor NAS server over to the Mac. These files were all created on PC's and are Office Excel files, WordPerfect files or PDF's. When you look at the files on the Mac from the Mac and bring up Get Info for the affected file, it says that the file has Custom Access. The files that work properly don't have that configuration. I can access and open the files on some computers, but some users can't open the files from their computer even though they can see it. We're all using PC's and they get the Error: Access Denied-Contact your administrator--or something similar. I've seen on the web similar issues and it may have something to do with ACL permissions. I don't know enough about Mac OS to understand this, but what is baffling is that they can be opened from some PC's but not others, and all of the Users have the same accessibility to the files.
